True Mate is the first book in the Prosper Woods Chronicles but don't miss True Knight, the incredible prequel to the series!

When I moved to Prosper Woods, California a couple of weeks ago, I’d had big plans for a quiet life. Let’s just say, things haven’t exactly turned out the way I expected they would. For one thing, as new sheriff, I hadn’t planned on investigating a murder the day after my arrival. For another thing, no one told me supernatural creatures existed. I didn’t believe it at first, but when Vincent Lasco suddenly smiled at me with a mouth full of fangs, things got interesting.

Quiet small town life indeed!

The moment I decided to take Sheriff Romeo Harmon home for a roll in the sheets, I knew hiding my true nature was a huge mistake. Then again, things never turn out the way I expect. The simple life of anonymity I’d hoped to have in Prosper Woods has blown up in my face in the most poetic and spectacular way. Not only that, the guy isn’t even aware that he has secrets of his own. How a guy could have lived all his life not knowing what he was, seems nearly impossible but in his case, I know it’s true.

Supernaturals are everywhere!

The town of Prosper Woods has a couple of new residents who at first glance, seem very unsuited for small town life. Before long though, I realized they were right for the town… probably the only right thing about this weird place. Surprisingly, they fit right in.

Things are about to get interesting!

2.5 stars. Read for a group challenge and because of the cover. I really need to start checking if there are prequels. This one feels like a second book. Already an established relationship, secrets discovered etc. Really I should've stopped after the first page and read the prequel. I didn't and that was probably why I couldn't connect with the characters at all. I liked how the town was a mix bag, with every type of shifter possible. Favourite character was Sid, but it seemed like the inner circle was overpowering. Hints on the problems coming up, but I'm not sure if I'll read the next one. It took ages getting through this one. Should've read the prequel first.

There are different kinds of mythical creatures and magic woven into this story, werewolves, vampires, ghosts, witches, unicorn!
I didn’t read the prequel, sadly I missed where Vincent and Romeo met.
They are already a couple in this episode.
As sheriff of the small town, Prosper Woods Romeo has to investigate cases.
There is the small town nosiness.

It’s a good-humored narrative, fun, mystery, crime, and sexiness. Two passionate characters who have passionate steamy encounters. There are a few different events in this story, not all finished, it’s a series so there will be a continuation.
It’s an eventful, entertaining narrative!

WOW! This is some fun and steamy paranormal! First I highly recommend you read the Prequel True Knight to see how Vincent and Romeo very first meet!! Our main couple here is Romeo who is yes magical. I do not want to give away exactly what he is though! You need to find that out yourself! Vincent is our new in town Vampire! Let's just say these two are insta lust and are already a pair in this book!! Lots of Steamy with these too!! The book is told in both of their POV along with some other characters POV! Very original and helps with the paranormal world building!! Huge variety of magic and types of creatures here!! I received and ARC of this book and I highly recommend this book as well as what looks to be a fun Series to everyone who enjoys shifters, witches and vampires oh my!! Enjoy!

I didn't enjoy this nearly as much as I did the prequal. This often times felt repetitive and long. There were a lot of different things going on and a lot seems to happen off page and we are then told it happened to fit in with what is happening at the moment.

I don't know. It just didn't read as fun as the first one. I'm a little curious about Blue but more sad. I'll get to it eventually.

While this is the first book in the series, you really should read the prequel book because this reads as a second book the series. I’m still loving all the different magical beings, and there was a good balance of paranormal goings on and chemistry and romance between the MCs. However, this book suffered from what a lot of 2nd books suffer from and introduced way too many plot points without much resolution. I feel like it would’ve been better served to have a more narrow focus. I’m still really enjoying the series overall, and loving John Solo’s narration, so I’ll definitely be continuing!

We have the continuing story of Vincent our resident vampire & Romeo the new sheriff in town as well as a Unicorn. I would highly suggest reading True Knight first so you can see how these two ended up coming to town, meeting & Romeo finding out not only about the supernatural world but that he is a Unicorn shifter. We find out that some books that belonged to Vincent's sire were inadvertently sent to his antique store & when his assistant opens the box to put them on the shelves for sale, 3 new, and dangerous, vampires show up wanting them. Vincent refuses & there is a small scuffle and he invokes a vampire law that makes the 3 leave the town. But in doing so, he has trapped himself & Romeo there knowing that as soon as they step out of the area, they could be attacked & killed. On top of that, we still have the issue with the Alpha of the werewolf pack not taking his defeat in the first book very well. There is a resolution to that problem by the end of the book. We also find out that the prior sheriff didn't just walk off into retirement & that mystery is open. On top of that, there is a little boy ghost who is stuck in between & is so very lonely & he just broke my heart. So we have several things going on that were not resolved by the end of the book & I can't wait for the next one in the series. It is a very enjoyable read & our two MC's make an awesome couple.

I received a copy of this book from the Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

Phew, this town has quite a lot of different magical beings! Several kinds of shifter including a unicorn and werewolves, a witch, a medium, a vampire and even the ghost of a little boy......
The MCs are Romeo, the unicorn shifter and Vincent, a vampire. But the author not only gave the reader their pov but also wrote short parts in the pov of the witch Sid, werewolf Greg and even little ghost Nameless/Blue. This surely helped for a better understanding of some twists and turns but I think overall there was too much happening in this story. It was here and there repetitive and gave too many side informations I didn't care for. For example the poodles and her girlfriend's backround story. For me, this took the flow out of the otherwise intriguing story.

Drama, action, mystery, suspense, and so many supernatural beings all in one place. Patricia Logan has started this new paranormal series off on a brilliant note. I’m already hooked on this world and craving the next instalment! I definitely recommend reading True Knight first, though, since it’s about how Vincent and Romeo met and sets up this world. True Mate is an excellent follow up to this and gives us more Vincent and Romeo and so many new threats for them to deal with. Where to begin: the mystery surrounding the former sheriff, the local wolf’s pack alpha stirring up trouble, or the vampires in town trying to steal Vincent’s books? There is a lot going on but it never feels like too much. I wasn’t overwhelmed or finding the pacing to be too quick; the descriptions are detailed just the right amount and the characters are well fleshed-out. It’s fun, thrilling, highly engaging, and also serves up a good amount of steam and sweetness. Can’t wait for the next one!

Strange

Prosper Woods is a strange place filled with unusual shifters. I'd recommend reading the prequel first as it lays down a lot of the background and establishes the main couple.
It's fun, doesn't take itself too seriously and I love the little newspaper snippets

I love the start of a new series by a favourite author...the excitement and that sense of anticipation and trepidation: will I love or hate it? Is this going to be the series that turns me off this writer? Well, I do love a PNR and I love this author's writing style (full of humour, action and steaminess), so I'm happy that True Mate totally works for me. Actually, there is a prequel novella which I'd recommend reading to get the most out of the world-building, etc.

The MCs in this book are top-drawer: Vincent, a centuries-old vampire and owner of Prosper Woods' antiques store is a wonderfully considerate mate to his man - protective and nurturing, but a powerful bad@ss at the same time. Rome (Romeo really, but he doesn't like it), the town's recently arrived sheriff takes to his new environment with an open mind and an open heart. He's a thoroughly good man...with a secret that even he hadn't known about until a few weeks before the events in the book.

The cast of side characters is great! I think Sid's amazing, Sally rocks and I really like Precious. I wasn't sure I would at the start, but she totally makes sense. I also grinned to myself whilst reading the cameo that isn't a cameo from the postman and his other half. Yes, that makes me smile a lot...

The plot is actually fairly standard for a PNR, but I think that's absolutely forgivable because it's so well executed and because of the imagination shown in the varied nature of all of the characters. That's definitely a refreshing change in this genre. Also, the baddies are suitably bad, meaning that the action sequences involving them have all the right levels of threat and menace for Rome and Vincent to overcome to bring balance to all the sweet 'new mates' romance.

I loved True Mate and can't wait for the next visit to Prosper Woods. 4.5* rounded up.

An ARC was provided by GRR. This is my honest review.

True Mate picks up right after the prequel, True Knight, ends. And just like True Knight, True Mate is a wild ride. Prosper Woods, the small California town tucked away in the sequoia forest, is inhabited by all kinds of animal shifters, werewolves, witches, vampires, ghosts and who knows what else. It’s a place that’s pulsing with magic, and all kinds of mayhem.

One notable thing I really liked about this story is the use of multiple POVs. Most chapters are, as you would expect, from the POVs of the two MCs, Vincent and Romeo, but we unexpectedly get chapters or parts of chapters told from the vantage point of an ancillary character. The shift is noticeable when it happens and signals that what we are seeing is particularly notable.

Vincent and Romeo fell in love in the prequel. Honestly, you really need to read it first, and not just for that reason. The prequel lays the groundwork for what happens in True Mate. And a lot happens. I can’t imagine how confusing it would be without having read the prequel first.

At the start of True Mate, Vincent and Romeo are an established couple. They are backbone of this story, but it’s really not a romance per se. There are a lot of steamy scenes and blatant expressions of affection and love between them which is really adorable (I know it’s strange to call a vampire adorable, but there you are.) The storyline of True Mate is gripping and it is not wrapped up at the end of the book. There is more to come and I'm there for it.

A very interesting storyline, and I'm loving the town *laughs*

I liked this one a lot more than the prequel True Knight. it has a stronger, more interesting plot and plant some seeds for books to come :P

I still am not enterly sold in the romance between Romeo and Vincent (mostly because I find Vincent quite silly), but I really enjoy the rest of it.

Going for the next one right now.

This is such a fun series! (I loved the prequel, too!) A paranormal lover's dream, for sure, full of humor and mayhem, magic & misfortunes, and creatures big and small. I adore the Letters to the Editor before each chapter, they all make me giggle! Such a steamy love story, & struggle to just live in peace - the characters are full-bodied (well, developmentally, at least - whether corporeal or not) Excellent first book leading straight into the second - I can't wait!

A great continuation, Romeo is learning more about himself, Vincent is so hot, I love Sid and want his staff, finding who are friends and evil. Lots of twists and turns, laugh out loud moments and hot, steamy, sensual scenes. Patricia’s writing style had me there in the pages, I’d put this series on a par with Lord of the Rings, WOW.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book for my honest opinions of which I’m under no obligation to do so. I absolutely recommend this book.

I really am addicted to this series so far, but mostly because there are so many shifter types and supernatural beings that I'm already especially curious about rather than the actual story telling. This author really is a good one and the Clean Sweep stories are really well told, but I find that this one is so filled with minutiae, so much telling, that the showing gets lost in and amongst all the words. Romeo and his vampire are still an appealing coupling and as they face new and old threats their partnership is one that is solid despite each of their learning curves. I enjoyed the story and am in it for more, it's just difficult to read at times because it gets so incredibly wordy.

Wow! This book is full of all sorts of supernatural beings! It is so interesting to see how this story is delving deeper and deeper in each book. There are new threats to Vincent the vampire and his boyfriend Romeo the shifter. They have to also deal with the vile alpha of the werewolf pack, Floyd, who might have bitten off more than he can chew. Then there is the problems with the former sheriff to deal with. One character who I really enjoy is Sid, the owner of the grocery store. His character is full of some pretty kick-ass secrets. I'm definitely glad he is on the good side. One of my favorite scenes in this book was when Vincent stopped at the drive in and saw the little boy. The author's description of it really had me picturing the whole scene in my head and how creepy it would be for me to witness something like that. I'm so excited for the next book, where we get to learn more about the little boy who needs Vincent's help. So, there is definitely lots of fun, sexy times with Vincent and Romeo, but you've also got some really interesting things happening as well in Prosper Woods. So much goodness! This is book one, but technically you should read the prequel book True Knight to get a deeper understanding of everything that has happened thus far. I did receive a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.

4.25 Stars!

First things first, you definitely need to read, or better yet, listen to True Knight before reading True Mate.

I really enjoyed the continuation of Rome and Vincent's story. They are very well-suited for one another and I'm really liking how they're settling in as a couple. I also liked seeing how Rome is in better control of his 'powers' now.

Also, you need to know that even if the book ends in a HFN, there's a bit of a cliffhanger, or rather, several issues that were left unresolved, which was a bit disappointing. I really liked that we got to see Greg come into his own and I hope we'll get to see more of him and Sam in the next book(s) in the series.

The audiobook was very enjoyable. John Solo did a great job bringing the characters to life. I think one of my favorite parts of the audiobooks has been Mr. Solo reading the letters that the Prosper Town residents submit to the paper, it's so much fun!

Overall, the book was interesting, fast-paced, intriguing, and I'm already looking forward to more. I have no trouble recommending it.

I enjoyed a lot the dynamic of this book! The intricate plot was fluid and entertaining, with a lot of wonderful characters, many surprises, heartwarming moments and an original paranormal twists. I recommend to read the prequel, it helped me a lot to understand the main situations and how the world is built in this series. An amazing reading!

Prepare to be overwhelmed!
This story will envelope you in a world of mayhem, mystery, danger and magic.
The romance that threads through the book is a welcome relief as a town is threatened by werewolves, vampires and mysterious deaths.
There are also a variety of ghosts that add another level of sadness.
Apparently things haven't been safe here for decades.

Just when you find yourself hanging on by a thread for some resolutions, the story ends! All you can do is prepare for the next in the series...It better be here soon!

Patricia Logan sure knows how to get a reader thoroughly hooked! With an absolutely brilliant start to the Prosper Woods Chronicles in the form of 'True Knight', the writer keeps us wanting more with 'True Mate'--the official first book of the series. Brilliantly narrated by John Solo, I was delighted to revisit this incredible world where shifters of every kind exist. There are new characters on the scene and new revelations from old friends. We have the absolute joy of seeing Sheriff Romeo Harmon grow into his powers as he is advised by his vampire lover Vincent Lasco. It's delightful to see their relationship grow and their love blossom. The sheriff's shocking realization of the supernatural beings that call Prosper Woods home is second only to his mortification that everyone knows 1) what kind of being he is and 2) that he is intimately involved with the male vampire Vincent Lasco! I find it HILARIOUS!!! But Romeo and Vincent have more to worry about and manage than small-town gossip. The local wolf pack's leader is dangerous as all hell and a group of very old vampires has decided to visit Vincent at Prosper Woods to claim something they shouldn't have! Ms. Logan is an especially clever writer in keeping her readers engaged without boredom, too much drama, or an over-emphasis on sexual intimacy. This story, like so much of her other work, is well balanced for the sub-genre. In this particular work, there is an amazing blend of scenes: we get an exciting thrill, then a warmly tender moment, then an incredible reveal, etc. She's also good at ensuring a resolution to a sub-plot or two after scaring us silly with the introduction of another mind-blowing sub-plot. It's all so good, it positively wicked! Darn her! 😁 I can't wait for the next book of this terrific series!

I made the mistake of not reading True Knight before reading True Mate, even though it was suggested. I had received and ARC copy of True Mate and wanted to finish it on time. I was a little confused at first, trying to understand just how both Vincent and Romeo even were in the town that is full of supernatural beings. I stopped after a few chapters and read the prequel. It filled in a lot of lines for me, so I urge you to do it first also.

I really liked True Mate! Imagine thinking you are one way... human, and finding out you're a Unicorn? And the sexy guy you went home with is a vampire? Drama and suspense, fun, sexy encounters, supernatural beings, more than usual in a paranormal book that is... I look forward to reading more about Prosper Woods and the people who live there. Enjoy!

I received this book via Gay Romance Reviews, but I was in no way influenced by that in my opinion of this book.

“Just when I think Prosper Woods can’t get any weirder, it does.” While parts of Prosper Wood may be weird, definitely a good kind of weird, it’s also wonderful and wild. I loved how with each new facet that was revealed there’s still an air of mystery that surrounds this place and the people. It makes me wonder if we’ll ever learn all of its secrets. Thankfully until more is uncovered, we have Vincent, Romeo and their steamy, sweet love to tide us over. I adore these two and the impact they’re having on each other and the town. A lot happens and I can’t share any of it but suffice it to say this book will keep you reading late into the night.

ARC received for an honest review.

Romeo Harmon is the new sheriff in town. He's newly realized that he's a paranormal. He's dating the local vampire Vincent Lasco. There's trouble around with the body of the old sheriff found in suspicious circumstances, the local wolf pack's alpha causing trouble and some vampires in town trying to take some ancient books of Vincent's. Vincent is also seeing ghosts for the first time.

This is a well written book with no notable errors in punctuation, grammar or spelling. It had the right amount of action to keep me interested and I was able to read it straight through. Great chemistry between all the characters, especially Rome and Vincent. I wish I'd known there was a prequel before I started reading this but I will definitely be picking it up soon. The only thing I didn't like about the story was that Vincent was able to eat food, even though it doesn't sustain him, and the author chose to have him sucking down ketchup by the case load. Gross!

True Mate starts right after the prequel ends, and the events from that book continue to develop as we become more acquainted with all the beings living in Prosper Wood. An interesting world-building with a mix of shifter species, vampires, ghosts, wizards, and a lot more we are still to find out.

The main couple was great, both guys very likable and so sweet. I love to see vampire characters being vulnerable and open to their partners or, in this case, mates.

While some of the mysteries are solved, there are others still unsolved and many questions to answer. But it still felt like this one has a good ending, not so abrupt that we are left anxious, just curious enough to want to move to the next book.

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. When a body of the old sheriff turns up is just one more problem Romeo has to deal with even as Vincent's help on harnessing his new powers. Only that not one trouble the town is about to have. Rome is quickly learning more and more about his wonderfully surprising new town and lover. I just loved LOVED the unique characters in the small town, from the busybodies to the watchers Everything isn't as it seems, can't wait to see what is coming next.
Vincent has ketchup problem I think that man has ketchup addiction, I just get tickled while reading the little snippets from the Prosper Woods Chronicles.
