Wren Delacroix #8

Sky Like Bone

Rate this book
It’s sticky and hot outside, and Wren Delacroix and Caius Reilly are bored. Ever since Hawk Marner’s appeal cast doubt on their ethics, it’s been crickets from police departments who want their help. With nothing to do but wait for the appeal, the two decide they could use a distraction. An FBI agent staying the facility that houses their new offices is trying to crack something in Northern California that could be a set of cult killings. They don’t really investigate cult killings. But it could be a serial killer.Or, it could be nothing at all. There are no bodies. There are just six couples who have all disappeared after frequenting an outreach program called Love Over Want. It’s not really their kind of thing, but… well, they are bored.

Wren and Caius are bored. No cases are coming their way since Hawk has put in for his appeal on his sentence. Could they have gotten it wrong? People are starting to wonder, causing their business to come to a standstill. But an FBI agent has asked them to look into the outreach program, Love Over Want. Seems there are some missing couples from the program, and no one knows where they are. Did they leave on their own, or did something happen to them? Another great story in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This series is starting to go downhill. Wren is still trying to fit her narrative to solve crimes whether she is correct or not. Her & Cai are enabling each other on everything from sex, putting their co- workers in anger, & making reckless decisions in cases. Hawk's case is still dragging on in the background and Wren is still enamored with him. The case they are investigating in this book doesn't get solved and kind of dropped off into the local police department's lap. The book ends with a cliffhanger.

Good read

Wren and Reilly are set up in a new FBI facility, but because Hawk's hotshot lawyer spreading all sorts of drama around, no one wants to give Reilly and Wren a case.
I'm not sure why, but their facility is set up as a "retreat" for other FBI agents and one in particular who visits hooks Wren and Reilly into his current case/interest. They're bored so of course they agree to go. While they're away in California, Maliah gets caught in the middle of the new Lab Tech's drama.

Wren and Reilly find themselves in some trouble when they partake in a ritual of the current cult they are investigating while undercover.

The book, like all the previous ones, could use some proofreading as there are quite a bit of typos. But they don't deter me because the story is good!
This one left in a cliffhanger, so I'm glad the next one is already published. On to the next!

Another good read

The story is very good with some twist and turns you don't see coming. This is an on going story so read the previous books first.
