When it hits the fan you call in the best. Unfortunately for planet Earth, the best were busy.
Mankind had won the Great War, defeating a terrible enemy after surviving an alien apocalypse that had nearly wiped out all of humanity. When the dust had finally settled, a new coalition of humans and the alien rebels who had fought beside them was formed, and with it, the rebuilding began.
But when a strange attack craft warped in from the depths of space and attacked one of the survey teams without provocation. It seemed Earth and its new allies had a brand new enemy on their hands. One they knew nothing about. On high-alert and in dire need of intel, a rag-tag team was quickly formed to race out into the void to track them down.
Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan.
An unstable warp sent them tumbling off course, spitting them out in the distant reaches of the galaxy. They were lost, and they were without backup. But out in the depths of space, it seemed they were not alone.

Scott Baron is an American author with a penchant for oddball stories with O. Henry-esque twists.
Born in Hollywood, Baron credits growing up in Los Angeles with skewing his humor towards the offbeat and absurd. He studied abroad in Italy during his college years, returning to Los Angeles to work in the film industry as an on-set medic. In addition to writing shorts and novels, Baron is also a screenwriter of both feature and television scripts.
DEEP SPACE BOOGIE is the tremendously exciting, explosive beginning to the far-ranging WARP RIDERS Series by Scott Baron; I cannot wait to read them all! Following the "Great War" when one friendly alien race, the four-eyed, four-armed Chithiid, combined with AI and humans to save Earth and the Solar System, the three elements have explored the Galaxy, searching for First Contact.
Suddenly out of nowhere, First Contact finds them, and it's not friendly. A new five-year plan is set up to voyage out beyond our Galaxy with the hope of discovering from whence arrived this sudden new Alien Race.
I want to start with, I got a free copy of the audiobook, and that, although part of the post where I was able to get the code to download the book did ask me to post a review, I was not asked to submit it to the site before posting, so this review is of my own opinion but saying that I am a fan of Scotts works so here goes.
I love it, would I recommend it? Hell yes, it's a part of a humongous Space Opera universe. For a better perspective, I would start with The Clockwork Chimera series before reading this series
So why are you still reading this review? Go and grab The Clockwork Chimera, The Dragon Mage, Space Assassins, the Book of Bawb series, and Warp Riders, which are all interlinked and the best multi-series you may ever read or listen to.

3 stars - entertaining read with some weaknesses
This is the first part in a series about the crew on an exploration mission gone wrong. After being attacked by an unknown alien race Captain Perez and her small crew of humans, Chtithiids (aliens living with humans on earth) and AIs are sent on a mission to find their attacker - they expect to be away from home for many years and have no way of knowing what adventures await them. Unfortunately, even their first warp jump goes very wrong, the AI steering the ship has inexplicable issues with memory loss and they have no idea where they have ended up. This is the beginning of all sorts of adventures and shenanigans...
This first part is clearly meant to set up the story: we get to know the crew and its mission and their first adventures bring former strangers together as a team and also manage to find them a cute mascot. The interaction between the crew members is fun to read, it is mostly lighthearted banter and they treat each other with respect. With a premise of a plot centered around exploring the galaxy this is Sci-Fi of the Star Trek kind, and the whole narration is so lighthearted that you kind of know that things will always end well, so I would consider this to be cozy Sci-Fi.
So, while the premise is very much up my alley and I really wanted to love this, some aspects detracted from the fun for me. The events and the plot in general are all rather disjointed and arbitrary. Things just happen and then they are over again. The reasons for and implications of events are barely being explored and I was just hoping for a bit more complexity overall. There's also plenty of tropes being thrown at you with a total lack of irony (like the cute, pink, furry critter with large eyes that comes on board as a stowaway and whose sole purpose is to become the mascot).
Towards the end of the book the crew decides to make first contact with a species that is techologically still in the stone age. And in this world there seems to be zero sensitivity about the impact of seeing spaceships coming from the sky for such a culture. But in this case it's okay I guess, because the aliens look really ugly and mean. (I mean, seriously?) So our crew barges in from the sky, loaded with weapons just to stir up some shit ... and then manages to be totally outwitted by the stone-age aliens. This whole supblot was just so dumb, pointless and annoying that it managed to seal the deal: I won't continue with this series. It's light, it's entertaining - but there's just not enough substance there for my personal taste. Your mileage may vary.
This was a fun introduction to a series that reminds me a lot of Star Trek in that a small group of intrepid explorers are headed into deep space on an exploration mission that may be as long as 5 years (assuming they survive). This is a novella, so I believe it's just a way to introduce each of the members and set the stage for this series. In this universe, Mankind was being invaded by some alien species and they formed an alliance with another alien species (that has 4 arms and a set of eyes in the back of their head) to defeat them and they have now become allies and friends. In the beginning, a new alien ship comes on the scene and attacks them but although they're able to defeat it, the enemy is blown to smithereens and there's not much info they can glean from the remains other than that it's an unknown race with unknown warp technology. This group of explorers is given the task to head out and see if they can figure out who this alien race is (and maybe try to negotiate peace?) but along the way find other alien races and planets to study. I loved the addition of their unexpected passenger and after this short story, I'm really looking forward to reading more. The team members are likable and there is humorous banter woven throughout the story. It's apparent to me that the author must be a fan of Star Trek as there were several things that occurred to me that made me think immediately of the show. I could just be making it all up or it really is a nod. Either way, I'm planning on reading more in this series. It makes for a fun read that is different from other heavier books that I've been reading lately.

If You're Expecting the Unexpected, How Can You Be Surprised?
This book is an excellent introduction to the Warp Riders series. Set in a possible future, Earth has defeated an alien enemy with the help of members of another alien race who were being held as slaves. Now that the war is over, both races are working cooperatively to scout areas useful for resource mining and also for other life forms.
I love the cast of characters: human; alien; and AI. The author has skillfully woven both humor and interpersonal conflict together with high and low-tech action, making the story truly come alive.
I was fortunate to be given a free copy of this and the next book in the series. I plan to begin reading it immediately!
This was a really amazing start to a new series…well, new for me anyway. I instantly fell in love with the story and with the characters as well.
Sadira, Moose, Hellatz, Goonara and Hump are all great and interesting characters and I want to know more about them so I will read the other books in the series as well. I caught myself laughing out loud so many times when they were making fun of each other and was so worried when they got in trouble.
The world-building in Deep Space Boogie is colorful and nicely detailed and I hope I can discover more planets, more weird-looking aliens in the next installments.
I highly recommend this book.

I loved this book! It feels a bit like firefly but better. The characters are diverse and interesting. I'm glad that the captain isn't some hard-drinking, ex-hero now on a forgotten old ship somewhere. That trope has been overused a lot! These characters are on a mission to find a new alien species who attacked them for no reason. Unfortunately, the first thing that happens is that their warp drive doesn't work properly and they are dumped out somewhere far from where they expected to be. They then make very human mistakes leading to more problems. How they resolve them and where this leads them is a great read. I'm definitely getting the next book in this series!
I received a free copy of this book and chose to write a review.
Lost in space Thought-provoking right from the start and the story developed steadily into a great read. This short story is the introduction into the series, getting to learn about the main characters who travel into space to find the hostile aliens who attacked a previous ship. Each story is a stand alone, but is a continuing saga to find the hostiles. I loved the witty banter and interaction of the characters, the story had a great flow and smooth writing as well as a good plot. I look forward to continuing the series and see where this crew will go next. Highly recommend. I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.
**I received a free ARC from Book Sirens and am leaving this review voluntarily.** Ok, first chapter in I hated this book. I prefer my sci fi on the fantasy side...not the Star Trek side. However, once I got further into I was sucked in and desperate to finish. I hate you Scott Baron. Now, I have to finish the entire series to find out what happens to Holly and Turd. Grrr.... And how dare you give that pink floof a name like Turd?
Honestly though, this seems a bit like Lost in Space meets Star Trek meets Land of the Lost. I am excited to see where the series goes.
This book has some interesting characters. I liked the pink fluff who had some unusual characteristics. The AIs were pretty cool as well. The story stole some lines from several popular TV shows. The story skipped around a bit and then it seemed that the author got to the number of words he wanted and just stopped mid story. I suppose you could call it a cliffhanger, but if his other stories end like that, it makes me not want to read any more of his books. Up until that point, I enjoyed the story and if you don't mind books ending like that, then I would recommend it.
This was a lighthearted read with fun sci-fi twists. I enjoyed the relaxed, sometimes teasing, relationships between the crew and even the AI's had a sense of humor. This book will not have you on the edge of your seat, but overall I found it to be totally entertaining. I will definitely plan on getting Warp Riders Book 2! Loved this one. I’ve started getting more into space operas and this one is a good example of why I like this genre. Lots of fun plot to keep you turning the pages.
We get to follow a small survey team that unexpected has a warp malfunction and goes to the far flung reaches of the galaxy where they get to deal with some unexpected surprises.
Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
I got this book as an ARC and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Book 1 provides an entertaining and somewhat lowbrow beginning for this series. Character and storyline development are OK, though there is some doubt eventually for the suitability of this crew and the tasks they face. The storyline has more “sudden development“ than expected, and is more mystical science than hard science. Book 1 ends with the reader looking for more answers.
I enjoyed this story as it reminded me of TV shows and movies such as Lost in Space. I liked the concept of the story and the banter between the characters characters with a little humor thrown in.

This was a great introduction to a diverse and interesting cast of characters, I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I've began the next in the series and have four in all downloaded and ready to go. Check it out if you enjoy sci fi with aliens and humans joining forces, a quarter of the way through the 2nd book already and things are very interesting for the crew.
This is book one in the Warp Riders series. I really enjoyed this book. Fantastic characters and excellent story line. Strong female lead character. Very imaginative. Science fiction with a lot of action. I can’t wait to read book two!
