I am already a fan of Jessie Gussman's books. This is a new series to me, though, and the third book in the Blueberry Beach series.
Zariah moved to Blueberry Beach, a small town where she had grown up, mostly with her grandma. When her grandmother died, she inherited the store and apartment from her grandmother. So, after the death of her parents and sister, she moved her niece and nephew with her to Blueberry Beach for a fresh start.
Gage lived across the street from Zariah in downtown Blueberry Beach with his two teenage daughters. He was attracted to Zariah but was gun-shy after his divorce about another romantic relationship. It had been years since his divorce but he was still cautious. When he began offering his help to Zariah and his daughters because friends with Macy, the two little families began to spend more time together and the connection between them continued to grow.
Just as Zariah and Gage began to think that it might be worth to risk to find a happy after for each of them, tragedy struck and offered some potential roadblocks. Would they be able to find a happy ending? Would grace be able to step in and offer healing and love to one who needed it most?
This is a beautiful story of healing, grief, salvation and grace told through a realistic and believable story. It is a clean and wholesome read appropriate for just about anyone.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Zariah's sister has passed away and her parents have passed away as well. Zariah finds herself trying to parent her sister's two children. Marcy and Mark. She decides to move them to Blueberry Beach where she is going to reopen her grandmothers store.
There she meets Gage and his two girls who befriend Marcy and Mark as well. Gage teaches Mark how to paint the shop and he helps Zariah with opening her store.
Can these two work on things and raise the four children together. I listened to the audio of this book and loved it. As usual Jessie does an awesome job weaving a story for us and Jay does a superb job of bringing all the emotion out in the book.
Book three of Jessie Gussman's Blueberry Beach series, Beautiful Forever, shows life own that small town in a different, more painful light. Zoriah more back to the town where she grew up, having lost her grandmother, parents, and sister in a short time. She's going to reopen her grandma's closing series, which she inherited, and show her teenage niece and nephew what Blueberry Beach is like. Macy, the niece, immediately makes friends with the two daughters of Gage, Zoriah's neighbor and a divorced single dad. This familiar with Gussman's plots know to smell romance around the corner! It's also not going to come easy. Both Zoriah and Macy will pay a price.
Zoriah is attracted to Gage in part for his way of telling her things that she should already know and making her consider deeper issues of life, like forgiveness and grace. She blames herself for not having enough money to open the store, for being obligated to the townspeople for their donations, and ultimately for Macy's shocking crime spree, which destroys most of the shops on Main Street, including the diner, ice cream store, and hardware store---all run by people who reached out to their family. She fully expects to be yelled at, just as Zoriah expects go be run of town by everyone hurt by Macy's actions. That includes Gage, who she thinks will forbid his girls to spend any more with Macy and to break with her. Macy and Zoriah are wrong about all of their assumptions.
Just when t think Gussman's Blueberry Beach novels won't tackle a more difficult subject, the next one goes further. Book one dealt with the breakup and reconciliation of a neglected wife and her workaholic husband. Book two dealt with the loss of a child and an unplanned pregnancy resulting from a one-night stand. Now, book three covers multiple family deaths, guilt, and living for Jesus while facing the consequences of terrible sin. Still, the main adult characters get their happy ending. How satisfying!
This book offers readers a sweet friends to lovers romance, as well as inspiration and wisdom to live by. The characters are fascinating, with traits and flaws that make them easily understood and relatable. They effortlessly draw readers into their story and hold them captive until the very last page has been read.
Zoriah along with her niece and nephew are beginning a new chapter in their lives after the deaths of loved ones. They are a newly formed family unit of three, dealing with a complex and tumultuous emotions, a new home, a new business and fitting in with a new community. They have been knocked down by tragedy and circumstances and are hopeful about a new start in Blueberry Beach, where their family has deep roots. On their very first day in Blueberry Beach, Zoriah and the kids meet Gage and his two teenage daughters. Gage is gregarious and generous with his time, assistance and advice. He is also drawn toward his attractive new neighbour who seems rather serious and overwhelmed about her new living situation with the two teenagers in her care. He and Zoriah become fast friends as he assists her in preparing her late grandmother’s shop for reopening and offers advice about raising teenagers. It isn’t long before Gage and Zoriah feel that just maybe there is something more than friendship between them. Life in a small town may mean that everybody knows everybody and their business, but it also means everybody helps and supports their neighbours and friends. This is the lesson Zoriah and the kids learn as they deal with financial setbacks, making new friends and the aftermath of a horrifying incident that affects the whole town. Along the way, all of them are reminded of God’s love, grace and forgiveness as they struggle to move forward in their lives and make beautiful forevers.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Her sister’s death has thrown Zariah into the role of parent to her sister’s two teenage children. Zariah is hoping that moving to Blueberry Beach, Michigan, and her grandmother’s old shop and apartment will provide a home, business, and the small-town atmosphere to help them all heal and become a real family. Zariah is hopeful that Macy and Mark will quickly meet other teenagers and form friendships and that her plans to rekindle old friendships and reopen Grandma Heater’s old apparel store will be a success. With no men in her life, she would have plenty of time to devote herself to her niece and nephew and grow her business.
It took Gage a few minutes to recognize the woman lying on the sidewalk as Grandma Heater’s granddaughter. He had intended to offer to assist the family in getting out of the car but his momentary distraction had unexpected results. After awkward introductions between his two daughters and Zariah’s teens Gage soon realized he enjoyed talking to another single parent.
Zariah’s self-doubts and insecurities over her new role were understandable and the problems her niece and nephew were experiencing after the death of their mother were not surprising. I really enjoy the Blueberry Beach books. Jessie Gussman brings a real-life quality to the small town with the character interactions and her descriptive writing. I received an advance copy of the book but my review is honest and voluntary. This is a wonderful, clean romance that made me feel uplifted with its message of faith.
When Zariah's sister died, she adopted her niece and nephew and moved to Blueberry Beach to reopen her grandmother's shop, which she'd loved visiting in childhood summers. Feeling overwhelmed with her endeavours to parent two teenagers and open a shop, while dealing with her own grief, she never expected the warm welcome she received from the townsfolk - and particularly from Gage, a neighbour with two daughters of his own. But though they enjoy spending time together and seem to be building something special, can it survive Macy's secrets?
Honestly, though I enjoyed this book, it didn't grab me as much as the previous two - somehow I found it harder to connect with the characters. Having said that, it's still a good read, and others may prefer this to the others! I did like the way that the town again bands together to help those of its members who are in need, and particularly the response to Macy's actions. It might have been nice to see a bit more of the fallout, though, as it felt somewhat rushed. All in all, though, a good read, and I hope to revisit Blueberry Beach again soon.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
Beautiful Forevers tells the story of Zoriah coming back home to Blueberry Beach to run her Grandmother's clothing store. She had made this decision because she had lost her Grandmother, parents and sister and now she is raising her sister's kids Mark and Macy. She came back to Blueberry Beach in hopes of finding a stable life for the kids. What she finds is Gage, her friend from when she was growing up. Several of the shop owners are people that she knew from staying with her Grandmother. Once she came to Blueberry Beach her plans all start going wrong. But, Gage suggested that she open a second hand shop and all the items were given to her to help her have a way to provide for her family. The time that Zoriah and Gage work together to get the store cleaned, painted and stocked they also had found that there was a chance at love for them. Having Gage around gave Zoriah someone to lean on and help her through all that was ahead of them.
What an emotional story! I'm not giving anything away by saying Zariah and her niece and nephew have been through so much loss, because that's how the story starts. When they get to Blueberry Beach, none of them have any idea what to expect, but they're all pleasantly surprised by the way they're welcomed into the community, and even helped to find their feet under them.
This is a story about Grace. There are many times when Zariah in particular says "I don't deserve this", and whether it's true or not, Grace is what she and her family receive. It happens over and over again, and it's beautiful to witness.
Jessie pours her faith out in her stories, which is why I love them so much, but it's Jay Dyess who brings them to life with heart and emotion. I have to say, this is one of his best yet. I cried about six times listening to the audio of this book, because Jay brought out the emotional intensity of what the characters were going through so brilliantly. I highly recommend it.
Beautiful Forevers is a heart-warming story of Gage and Zariah. Gage and Zariah have knew each other in the past and have departed separate way. Years later, both have returned to Blueberry Beach. This time Gage has two daughters to raise alone. Zariah has a niece and a nephew to raise.
Zariah has lost her parents, grandmother, and sister in a very short period of time. It seemed that the dark clouds will never leave her. Now she has to raise her niece and nephew alone. Zariah questioned herself if she was making the right decisions when she is saying yes and no to her niece and nephew.
Her faith in God is in question when her niece got herself into serious trouble. How can Blueberry Beach and Gage be associated with Zariah after what her niece has done.
I love this story. Zariah was someone that Gage remembered. Both knew of each other but never interacted with each other until now. Gage has his own issue to deal with. Zariah has more issues to deal with. She needs to provide and raise her niece and nephew as a first time parent. Both have kept their faith in God.
I was given this audiobook by the author. I have decided to voluntary write an unbiased review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way in writing this review.
First of all, the publisher’s “blurb” would have ruined the story if I read it first. You don’t need to give it all away. Second, it is “Zoriah” not “Zariah” unless it was changed after I read.
I received an ARC and this is my honest review. I heartily recommend.
Jessie Gussman is one of the most prodigious writers that I have read - and I have read classics, biographies, historical fiction, thrillers, mysteries, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, scriptural and self help books. I probably left a few out but you get the idea (yes, I’m really old). All that was to say that this book is an affirmation that not everyone or everything is bad or evil and it is our choices who make us who we are. If we have faith, the choices can sometimes be easier to make. But even if not, we can handle the challenges and obstacles with the help of the Lord.
I love all Jessie Gussman's books and this is no exception. Her characters are so real, despite their human failings and less than perfect pasts, they show that with God, there is hope for a good future. I loved all the nuggets of wisdom Gabe dropped into the conversation so naturally, that really make you (as reader) stop and rethink how you think on various aspects of life, yet the book is not at all preachy and is very easy and enjoyable to read. I can't help but wish I lived in a community like Blueberry Beach where everyone is so supportive and non-judgemental of their neighbours and friends - makes me want to do better to help those around me. I received this book as an ARC but this review is my own.
So enjoyed this book. Zoriah had been through so much loss. The loss of Grandmother Heater, both Zoriah's parents and now her only sibling. Leaving her niece Macy and nephew Mark without their Mom. It was beautiful watching Blueberry Beach community help Zoriah get her business ready so her And the kids could make Blueberry Beach home. And the neighbor Gage help her get the shop in pristine order for opening day. I was clapping for the kids finding friends and Zoriah and Gage becoming close and then gasping when events unfold with Macy. I cried when Zoriah taught Macy what Grace looked like. If you like clean, inspiring, heartfelt books, look no further. I highly recommend 'Beautiful Forevers'. I received this book from the publisher. The thoughts and comments are my own.
Jessie Gussman's novels move me to tears with how beautiful they are. In this novel, Zariah is raising her sister's children and she moves the family to Blueberry Beach to re-open her grandmother's clothing store. Gage has been living there since his divorce. This story delves into how the people of Blueberry Beach help each other during times of need. It also deals with the themes of forgiveness and grace and how everyone needs them, especially when our actions are not neighborly. I enjoyed this story and I recommend it to others. Jay Dyess' narration is exceptional as his voice and style create an emotional response in the listener. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
Macy had everything, a great mother that loved her but her father walked out on the family but she took it personally that he hated her. Regardless of all her accomplishments, striving for perfection thinking deep inside that she lacked something, that's why her father left, to make up for her supposed lack. Struggling with that then the death of her mother and grandmother, she turned to stealing and violence, never thinking she would get caught. Poor Zoriah never having had children had no clue what her niece was up to, thinking she was a good girl. When Macy's mental and emotional sides collided the town of Blueberry suffered. This story makes you stop and think on many different levels. Excellent book.
This book was very thought provoking. I was surprised at the twist in the story and it really made me think. You never know how children may be reacting to a parent leaving or a parent's illness and death. I was especially impressed by Zoriah's strength, her faith which was tested, and how she talked to her niece with love and not anger over what she had done. I also liked the "beautiful forevers" which were abundant in this story. This is a great story set in a wonderful small town in Michigan where the characters always seem to help each other out when needed. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I love the town of Blueberry beach and this novel. It is about how the town can come together to help one another even in the worst of circumstances, but will true love come out of it.? I found this book very inspirational with alot of wonderful quotes. You too can make beautiful forevers, good can come from the sad and even the bad, everything has a purpose with God. I am dedicating this review to our wonderful and beautifully made Cyarah, may she rest in peace until that wonderful resurrection day. Only then will we understand all. Definitely recommend.
This Blueberry Beach novel was just as sweet as the last. I appreciated the message of unconditional love from parents who worry about being the best parents they can for teenagers who, sadly, often have to learn lessons the hard way. I enjoyed this story set in a small town community that helps one another. It is an image I relish in this messed up world where folks don't seem to care enough about their neighbor to even do simple things to keep everyone safe. Kick back in your recliner and escape to Blueberry Beach where folks befriend and forgive and lend a helping hand to those in their community who need it. I read an ARC of this book and am pleased to offer this honest review.
Sometimes in my life after being raised by Marine I’ve felt I always had to show a certain type strength not showing weakness or vulnerability. But while reading the story I saw the other side of love. It shows how people who had suffered great loss could show their strength in their weakness, in their suffering, by not giving in to anger, remorse and depression but by facing life step-by-step. The side of love that is forgiving, never unkind, gracious and understanding. The side of love that doesn’t jump out and insist on its own way, the side of love that unselfishly stands behind those they love and support. Thank you Jesse.
Another great addition to the Blueberry Beach series.
I've been interested in Gage and his girls since their first introduction in Lindy and Adam's book (Yesterday's Treasures). This story expanded on the little we knew about their family, and I enjoyed getting to know them better.
Zoriah was a new character to Blueberry Beach, and her arrival certainly added more interest to the little town. I felt for her and her nephew and niece after their "accumulated losses", let alone the financial stress after their move.
A story brimming with second chances, unconditional love and sweet moment. And a few unexpected twists...! 🤣
her whole family died, parents, grandparents, and sister. she is raising her sisters boy and girl she quits her job as pediatrician and moves to the small town her grandma lived in and left her the dress store. she is going to run the dress store

This is book 3 of 8 in a wonderful series! Zoriah has her hands full when she moves back to town with her niece and nephew after her sister's death. She is trying to reopen her grandma's clothing store after losing her grandma recently, as well. She meets Gage, a single dad with 2 daughters, who wants to help her get back on her feet, but Zoriah is overwhelmed with how nice and helpful everyone is. Can she learn to accept their hospitality when she needs it most or will she have everything come crashing down around her? Jessie Gussman does a great job getting you to know the characters on such a personal level. I loved this book, and can't wait to read book 4.
Jessie's books are edifying. I would say they are also light reads, but she does tackle difficult topics. Bad things happen to the characters or because of their choices, but there is redemption, grace, and forgiveness. She weaves in truths about how we should leave as Christians, which serve as reminders as I listen along.
I've listened to her books on YouTube "Say With Jay." He's a great narrator, even for the women's voices. It's the type of book that you can listen to while doing something else. Any can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend starting the series in order as several connect characters and places.
I had an Advance Readers Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Jessie Gussman has another great book in this series. This one explores issues of grief, trust, bad choices, grace and forgiveness. The plot involves a woman who is guardian for her niece and nephew following her sister’s death. They move to Blueberry Beach to reopen her grandmother’s store. With the help of the residents of Blueberry Beach, she opens a second hand store rather than a clothing store. I would highly recommend reading this book, and the other books in this series.
We saw familiar faces from the previous books, but a 'new' person comes to Blueberry Beach. Zoriah with her niece and nephew are the new faces. She was given custody when her sister died. She had spent a lot of time in Blueberry Beach when she was younger with her grandmother, who had mostly raised her. Zoriah and Gage literally bumped into each other, before she opened the door to the shop. Gage is a single dad to two daughters. This is the start of a beautiful story.
I have a few friends who seem to have way more than their share of adversity to deal with. That was true of Zoriah, the main female character in this book when she moved to Blueberry Beach with her niece and nephew to reopen her deceased grandmother’s clothing store. I highlighted a few passages that dealt with handling troubling times with grace toward ourselves and others. It was an inspirational book as well as entertaining. Highly recommend! I was given a copy of the book by the author and this voluntary review reflects my honest opinions.
Beautiful Forevers is another wonderful book in this series. Zoriah is trying to raise her teenaged neice and nephew when she meets Gabe after moving home to reopen her grandmother’s store. When her order to stock the store is cancelled she isn’t sure what to do, but the community with a little nudge from Gabe is right there to help. When unexpected trouble strikes her family what will she do? Will she have pack up and leave her new home? This story is filled with community, forgiveness, and redemption that points us back to the One who’s redeemed us.
I really liked this story. Zorriah had moved to Blueberry Beach with her niece, Macy, and her nephew, Mark. Mother to the children he died, Zorriah’s parents had died and the father of the children moved on. They were there to begin again in her grandmothers retail store, which had been closer for a couple of years. The towns people rallied to help her get her business up and going. She met Gage and his two daughters. Macy created troubles in this town. Read this story and see how trusting in God can turn lives around.
I find myself drawn to the characters in this series more than I have in any other books. In this story of loss, anger, rebellion, and forgiveness I found myself relating to each circumstance from memories of my youth and the powerful message of loving someone through all problems.
This series is not your average Women's Fiction series, but one that delves deep into our faith and finding ourselves.
Beautiful Forevers is a sweet, uplifting, small town romance. This book is about grace, love, trust, rebellion, faith, forgiveness, second chances, dealing with grief, small town helpfulness and so much more. I was transported to Blueberry Beach as soon as I began reading. Gage and his daughters and Zoriah and her niece and nephew are all so well written they become like family. I love small town people and how they support one another. Ms. Gussman has written another book I could not put down!
