In the Wreckage ~ Really loved this world. I like that even though it’s set 200+ years in the future, that future landscape is plenty realistic based on the issues we’re dealing with today. The fact that metahumans are “made” because they’re essentially immune to a toxic chemical bomb created by terrorists is, again, a believable scenario.
Jamie, Kyle, and all of Alpha Team are great characters. I know that their relationship is brand new in this book so I accepted that the storyline basically was BOOM action adventure boom sex, rinse and repeat. I hope future installments might slow that down a little. Not that I don’t appreciate the sex but I guess I’m getting older and pages and pages and pages of it end up having me skipping those sections after a while. *sorrynotsorry*
I really loved how this isn’t insta love not even at the end. It’s a definite HFN edging towards an HEA but they haven’t made it yet. I also completely respected Jamie’s ability to stand up to his wealthy and powerful bio family without batting an eye.
Can’t wait to jump into the next book.
In the Ruins ~ This series just keeps getting better and better plus even more exciting. I have to be honest and admit that I mostly skipped the sex scenes in this book. Not because they’re not hot, but because I really wanted more of the action adventure and suspense. Of course, that didn’t prevent me from sighing when I read the quote below,
I can’t wait to see where the next book takes me.
“I love you.”
The words left Jamie’s mouth in a thoughtless whisper, falling into the miniscule space between them loud enough to block out the rest of the world. Kyle’s eyes widened in shock, mouth dropping open as his fingers twisted tightly around the lapels of Jamie’s suit jacket.
“Who fucking says I love you in a bar bathroom?” Kyle ground out, voice breaking a little on the only words that mattered. “You fucking idiot, this is why you need me.”
Jamie licked his lips, mouth gone dry again, breathing fast in the wake of his confession. “I can take it back?”
Kyle yanked on his suit jacket, trying to pull him closer when they were already as close as they could get, lips moving over Jamie’s as he spoke. “Don’t you fucking dare. I’ve been waiting—you could’ve said it in London for fuck’s sake!” “You could’ve done as well.”
“I’m a sniper. I wait. And I was gonna wait for you however long it took you to screw your goddamn courage to the sticking place and—”
Jamie cut him off with a kiss, slow and deep and desperate, pouring everything he felt into it in a way he never had before. “I love you.”
Kyle’s breath hitched in the back of his throat, his fingers warm against the side of Jamie’s face. “Say it again,” he begged.
Jamie pulled out of Kyle agonizingly slowly, moving gently through the fading resistance before pushing back inside so slowly he had to grit his teeth against the need to come right then. “I love you.”
“Yes,” Kyle gasped out, eyes locked on Jamie’s face, his voice shaking.
