NADIE ME PREPARÓ MENTALMENTE PARA LO HERMOSO QUE FUE ESTE MANHWA SOY LITERALMENTE UN MAR DE LÁGRIMAS LO FELIZ (E INFELIZ) QUE ME HICIERON ESTOS DOS HIJOS DE PUTA NO TIENE NOMBRE
I have a strong feeling that I have read two separate webtoons. I had to check if i was reading the right one several times, because the tone and themes got changed so much almost out of nowhere. So, i'd like to over-analyze both parts.
1. The firts two thirds are exactly what you would expect from the cover and the artstyle - romance that reads like ya more than anything (despite characters being in their 20s), a set of standard bl tropes (various love triangles, secret crushes, even the coffeeshop trope), sort of pointless, kind of cute, but mostly annoying. The one-dimensional two leads allowing for instant satisfaction.
Enough to keep me entertained.
At this point i liked side characters much more, like, sehun and jina had more personality than the leads. Sehun was however entagled in the love triangle and lost his essence, but he got a cat afterwards, which did greatly redeem him. The webtoon is good at handling female characters, without demonizing of the "femal rival", giving jina a respectful conclusion, which was a relief.
A three star read.
2. But then min's ex was introduced. And min suddenly became a much more developed character, trying to manage his life while dealing with his past abusive relationship. I actually started caring for him. The story got darker and, in a way, hopeless.
I was hoping for a darker ending, but again, the story reads like ya more than anything, so all that hopelessness did not last too long, and the ending was, like expected, overly cheesy and annoyingly sweet. But this time i already cared for the mc, so i didn't mind to much.
The last third: 4/5. Which brings the average to 3,5, but i round it up to 4/5, because the story got me genuinely surprised.
It was nice reading a story showing HEALTHY same sex platonic relationships and opposite sex platonic relationships without the drama of doubting whether these relationships would progress to more romantic tendencies. I mean seriously, why does everyone assume that men and women can’t just be friends? No hidden agenda other than being good friends. There needs to be more stories out there showing these types of relationships.
