Relics of Dawn #1

Eruption: Act One

Rate this book
Scientists have no choice but to unveil the Dawn Project, an audacious and destructive plan to heal the planet... beginning with an exodus to the heavens. Kaia knows something must be done to prevent more tragedy, so she commits herself to the project’s success at all costs. Harnessing the most powerful force on the planet is dangerous, though, and it is up to Kaia and a team of scientists to figure out how far they need to go to stop a mass extinction.

Ripped from the headlines, Eruption, the first book in the Relics of Dawn trilogy, wraps a science fiction adventure around one extreme climate mitigation plan from today’s cutting-edge research.

“Relics of Dawn, by impressive new author A.W. Davidson is a powerfully written book that has a relevance to our society and our world that cannot be overlooked. It's a thought provoking and fascinating story that captivates the reader on the first page and doesn't let go.” - Amazon Reviewer

A.W. DAVIDSON is a #1 bestselling science fiction author based in Illinois, North Carolina, and sometimes New Mexico. He was shocked when Deconstruction, his first short story and prologue to a much larger adventure, shot to the top of the charts on Amazon. So, he decided to finish writing the full novel - Relics of Dawn: A Story Carved in Time - available now.

Before this turn of events, A.W. grew up on a farm and ended up working in fast-paced technology consulting, because that is a logical step for a farm kid. While new to writing, he often says it is how he stayed, arguably, sane through 2020. When not consulting or writing, he enjoys spending time with family in the great outdoors and is sad to see it disappearing.

I wanted to like this novel as it dealt with the issue of climate change but I found it just too annoying. It is relatively short, a definite plus in this case. I even enjoyed the sections that dealt with the near future and some scientists working on possible solutions. But these were way too brief. This is the first book of a trilogy. I won’t be reading the other books.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The world building was quite heavy from the very beginning and I found the timelines a bit confusing.

The animals and the science were interesting but I kept waiting for the plot to get to the action and it took quite a long time for something in the present to happen.

The characters were ok but I found it hard to connect to any of them in particular. Kaia's whole story was based on the fact that her parents died when she was a child and grew up wanting to save the planet and that is all I learnt about her.

I'm not sure if I'll read the next book or not yet

I did really enjoy this climate change dystopian, or maybe not, adventure story! First time reading this writers work & hopefully not the last! Great ideas for the plot, I liked the characters, pace, energy of the whole book! A really great read!

I came to this after having read some Trek relaunch books. What a total disappointment. Extremely boring with few interesting points at all. No action. No deep philosophy. Not much of anything. Have read that it gets better, which it would have to as it'd be hard to get much worse.

I don't like giving low ratings to books. However, this book was not for me. Why did I finish it? I needed a book with a volcano in it for a book challenge I am trying to complete.
