Orlando Sanchez has been writing ever since his teens when he was immersed in creating scenarios for playing Dungeon and Dragons with his friends every weekend. An avid reader, his influences are too numerous to list here. Some of the most prominent are: J.R.R. Tolkien, Jim Butcher, Kat Richardson, Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony, Lee Child, George Lucas, Andrew Vachss, and Barry Eisler to name a few in no particular order. The worlds of his books are urban settings with a twist of the paranormal lurking just behind the scenes and generous doses of magic, martial arts, and mayhem. Aside from writing, he holds a 2nd and 3rd Dan in two distinct styles of Karate. If not training, he is studying some aspect of the martial arts or martial arts philosophy. He currently resides in Queens, NY with his family and can often be found in the local Starbucks where most of his writing is done. (Des writing-spoilerish) Definitely read the first two installments before this, or you will be hopelessly lost. A fitting end and a fitting beginning to Nyx' and Acheron's adventures, if you call being hunted by every magical agency hellbent on obliterating you, 'adventure'. I hope this will be as successful a series as his Montague & Strong series. Nyx is a bad-ass *something* who has her demon FRIEND not bound to her any more, but is now kin (or her obnoxious brother, depending on your point of view), which means that she and Acheron are on everyone's s#itlist, except maybe Victoria's. Depends on which side of the bed she will get out of in the morning, I reckon. As they escape in the Eight, life is about to get both complicated and very simple for the pair. Trust no-one, shred everyone who goes after them, and enjoy lunch at Fong's when it is safe to do so-and that may not be until H#ll freezes over. Acheron will keep us updated on the local weather conditions. Orlando manages to pack so much into so little, you are always asking for the next instalment immediately after reading the last book. 'Darkin' will be the next instalment, a full BOOK, where we will find out how powerful and dangerous Nyx is... or will we? In many ways, you can compare Orlando's style to CJ Cherryh. A lot happens in a very short 'book period' time, and yet you know that in reality, nothing has changed, yet everything has. Nyx will be her snarky best, Acheron will be her dapper sidekick (but NEVER say that to Acheron), and there will be plenty of bodies and sly humour, but with a very serious and very dark undertone with this (now) ongoing series. Looking forward to the next instalment.
A book load of AMAZING dialogue that will having you wishing you'd said that, and that and that. LAUGHING til you cry, scared out of your wits, heart racing and pounding, and then it just gets better!!! Who knew demons could be so funny and scary and HOTT at the same time!?! And Nyx is no slouch either, trouble seems to find her no matter what she does and then she DEALS with it. She's got all the cool gadgets, guns, claws, scales and of course a demon lord partner. Why doesn't trouble run from her is my question. I am hoping for more and more books about Nyx and Acheron's "adventures" in saving the world from monsters of all kinds, especially human ones.
This is the third book in this trilogy, starting out with Nyx’s continued rage of Rodgrio, who is the keeper of the vault of weapons and the like for the Seven, he is also a master sigle smith, with s few tricks up his sleeve. Needing to make a deal with the Clevers, and get the help of a celibate succubus while not know if Vic, the director of the seven is or isn’t out to get her.
To top it off she has found out that Archon is her kin by way of some magic of Gryn, thing are just going great.
Nyx is in trouble. The Black Cleavers have been hired to bring her in, OSA and the Seven are after her, and somehow, someone always seems to know where she is. Her partner, Acheron, is still hanging around even though their bond has been broken and he claims that she's becoming more like him every day. Is Nyx becoming more like a demon - which the Cleaver, OSA, and the Seven claim to police and contain? How do her pursuers keep finding her? Will she be consumed by the Darkin, the ancient artifact she's bonded with? If you like fast-paced urban fantasy, tangled loyalties, terrific dialog and characters, you'll enjoy this book! Please note, if you happen upon this book first, I'd check out the series in order to get the full back story for this one. You won't be disappointed!
Nyx's life has been one betrayal after another, only this one is designed to eliminate her & Acheron if she doesn't stop it. Lot's of snark, some really intense problems to work thru and a whole lot of taking care of business. It's fun to watch Acheron reign Nyx in, it's almost like watching a sensei teach their impatient student. It will be interesting to see where this next adventure takes us.
This is the 3rd novella and you will need to read the first two, to understand the story. As the reader you get placed right into the action with Nyx and Acheron, standing with them as they accept what must take place to fight the monsters and those that sent them. I loved reading the dialogue and the interaction between Nyx and Acheron. I can't wait to see just what the future will bring for these two!
Who do you trust when everyone is out to kill you?
Nyxia and Acheron return as they find themselves no longer shackled together but perhaps bonded even more tightly as demon kin. NHC has lots of life altering choices to make before the end of this adventure, as enemies become allies and those she thought she could trust, offer betrayal after betrayal. She you will learn that sometimes you have to embrace the darkness within to stop the evil in others.
Orlando Sanchez gives us an exciting conclusion to Nyxia White's story. We are treated to a little more insight into the weapon Nyx bonded with, more intrigue and more action. This is the 3rd novella in a series of three and the reader would need to read the first two to truly appreciate this story. If you haven't read the first two, grab They Bite, They Rend, and They Kill and make a weekend of it. You won't regret it!
Great story! They Kill: A Nyxia White Story is full of intrigue, great dialogue and plenty of action. I love the interactions and wordplay between Archeron and Nyxia. And just which side is Victoria on? I was very happy to see one of the ‘bad’ guys get his though. Just make sure that you have plenty of time for reading; because once you start this book, you will not want to put it down.
Nyx and Acheron are back! And being attacked on all fronts. Nyx needs to make deals to try to save herself and Acheron from being rended by the Seven for things they didn't do and save the World and others at the same time. So much intrigue and interplay! Great read! Sets up the story for the next one, what will happen to Nyx now?!?
Nix and Acheron are back. I can’t believe we are already in the third book of this series. The character development throughout this series has been masterful. It was a wonderful ride from start to finish. Here’s to hoping the author takes these characters and extends the series into full length novels.
As always Orlando never disappoints! Action. mayhem, revenge and a bit of destruction, all in a day's work for Nyxia and Acheron. This series grabs you and wont let go. I do believe Acheron has a crush on a certain succubus I am truly looking forward to next the installment. There is definitely something not right with the Seven. I highly recommend this series but be forewarned you will become addicted!!
The thrilling conclusion to the Otherkin trilogy. Nyx and the newly freed Acheron tread dangerous waters as plans within plans, deceit, and plain old traps attempt to ensnare &/or erase them. For the sake of survival, Nyx may have to do the unnatural - plan ahead and show slight discretion. At least until the final battle. A blast of darkness to brighten our day.
What a great little series. When you read these books you will want more, just like the rest of us. Darker that his other series, Nix show some badassery. She is not one to be trifled with, along with her friend, a demon lord. Great story with in a new world and awesome new characters.
I found Orlando's work years ago, and this series reminds me why I keep coming back for every book. Intriguing worlds, well-planned characters and plots, and action that keeps my attention all make his reads some of my favorites! Quick-witted, fast-paced urban fantasy by one of today's best indie authors. Do it. You know you want to....
Oh boy just finished what I thought was the last book in this series and then I get a very big surprise at the end that are going t be more loads more, best gift ever. To say I am a fan well I am and you should be to. Read this series and come to love they characters as I do.
What a great ending to a short story trilogy. Hopefully, with copious amounts of luck, Nyx and Acheron will get their own full length novels and we can go on their continuing journey with them.
I really love the interaction relationship that exist between the friend/kin! Orlando never disappoints.Every series that he writes is outstanding. His development of his characters & storylines is unbelievable & lures you to read all of his books. More Nyx!!
Great development of characters. Plot a bit complicated but makes you think and concentrate which is good. Love Nyx and Acheron can't wait to learn more about them
This series was so good. Orlando does it again. He is one of my favorite authors. I love kick-butt females characters and Nyx does not disappoint. I hope you continue the story. I would love to see what Nyx and Acheron do next.
Nyxia and Archeron are hunted. They must assure the traitor is exposed with few friends and triple enemies the way forward is dangerous with few options. The story is fast paced and provides insight into Nyx and her kin.
This third and final chapter of the saga answers some of the questions from the previous books but raises new ones. The characters are getting more depth and the story is reminiscent of great epic comics. A fantastic read for lovers of the genre.
Happy to be reading about two of my favorite characters again. If you enjoy snarky dialogue, action that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a friendship that is deep and very relatable then you will love this book.
Sanchez has done it subsumed me in and I could not stop all night until I fell asleep in the chair AGAIN! Grrr tear backstory and development of the relationship. Can't wait for more, literary Crack.
Thank the powers that be, I don’t have to use threats to get you to write more of these stories ( I hate to threaten people, it makes my stomach hurt). I hope anyone who is thinking about reading them, gives them a chance.
I love the worlds that Mr Sanchez creates. If you're into urban S&F you need to give ALL of his books a try. I've been reading since I was 5yrs old and no fail I'm sucked into these stories from chapter one
This book was a great step in this series! I wish the next one was out now!! Nyx is a gritty character that doesn't take crap from anyone. She's flawed but still a great person that does care. I can't wait to read more for these two!!
