Too drawn out

I hate when people don't communicate and that is what happened here. Plus the book dragged in several places and I almost wanted to skim it. Duke rescues girl from drowning and gives her cpr. The people who saw it made up the most stupid rumors about it, like they planned it , etc. So dumb. But he does end up married to her and they spend their first month avoiding each other. But then they started getting closer when a former female viper shows up at his house and stirs up trouble. There are no intimate scenes and the romance was really not there. I liked the epilogue though. But the book was just okay.

Henrietta has no desire to marry. She dreams of seeing the world. One day while she is walking in the park with her sister, she slips on a rock and falls into the lake. Laurence is the Duke of Ashbury, and when he sees the young lady fall he jumps in and saves her, even using new life saving methods to get her breathing. Henrietta's father, a baron, tells the Duke he must marry his daughter to save her reputation because of what he did to save her in the park. Henrietta is against it, until her father tells her she needs to think of her younger sister and her prospects of making a good marriage. She reluctantly agrees and the two are married. They exist in their marriage of convenience, living their own lives separately. When a bad rain storm hits, Laurence realizes he needs to court his wife, since they didn't have that before they were forced to marry. Everything is going great until a severe snow storm hits and temperatures drop. A knock upon their door one cold evening brings Laurence's past and a stop to their courtship. Can Laurence save his marriage before it really begins? Then Henrietta's sister overhears Laurence talking one night and hears him say, "Henrietta must not find out." Her sister later wakes up Henrietta, and after telling her what overheard earlier that night, they pack her sister's things and leave while everyone is still asleep. Will Henrietta find her dream of being a spinster or will she still have her happily ever after? Can Laurence find out why Henrietta left? Can he find his wife and set things right before it's too late? Even though I was given a copy of this book by the author, it in no way influenced my opinion and this is my honest review.

Henrietta and Dorothy are loving sisters. Dorothy dreams of marriage and a family, while the younger Harriet dreams of adventures exploring the world. An accidental almost drowning brings Laurence, a Duke, to our dear Harriet's life. He rescues her at the lake and performs a newly discovered procedure, mouth to mouth resuscitation and chest compressions. The scene was scandalous for the times and Gardner's reputation is unfortunately ruined in the eyes of the London ton. Laurence feels he must now marry her to avoid the scandal affecting her entire family. But Harriet doesn't want marriage, she wants to become a spinster so she can travel the world alone. When she realizes the scandal will also affect her dear sister's prospects, she agrees to marry within two weeks, even if she knows nothing about Laurence. You will enjoy the story as good plot twists threaten their marriage, and eventually lead to a wonderful happy ending.

A sweet romance

This story show how lack of communication can cause serious problems in relationships. Eventually all misunderstandings were cleared and we have a happy end. Henrietta and Laurie both annoyed me to be honest. Henrietta for being silly enough to believe a spurned friend to her husband and Laurie for allowing Mrs. arks to impose on him and his wife. He sho have sent her away pronto and Henrietta should have told both her husband and Mrs. Mark long before she left

It was an enjoyable read but I did get irritated with Henrietta - I found her to be very lacking in communication skills. But that could be attributed to her age and immaturity. I thought Laurence was so patient with her, a really lovable character and an ideal partner for her. Thankfully, they finally managed to work out all their communication issues and had their happy ending. I really liked Dorothy and Finlay too. The characters were well developed and the author really portrayed them as fallible humans, which made them endearing.

This captivating Regency tale brims with intriguing characters, each vividly brought to life. Clever schemes and delightful deceptions weave through the narrative, creating a tapestry of misunderstandings that keep readers on the edge of their seats. The story crescendos with a suspenseful cliffhanger, all while maintaining a clean and refined tone. A memorable antagonist lurks in the shadows, adding depth and complexity, ultimately leading to a resolution that is as satisfying as it is delightful.cliffhanger, very clean, with a memorable antagonist and delightful resolution!

The Duke who Saved Me

I have nothing against the story but the maturity of the characters. When my husband and I married he had pictures in his wallet of other women and none of me. I told him if I wasn't in his wallet no other women would be either. I tore all their pictures. He said they were cousins and I assumed him if such was the case they'd see each other again. You just have to put your foot down and take a stand.

5 STARS

This wonderful Recency Historical Era Romance will definitely leave a smile of delight on the face of the reader. It's definitely 5 STARS for the lessons in shows for the Duke's & Hattie's relationship from a marriage of convenience to learning to just know the stranger each married, courting to have that loving relationship, & an uninvited woman guest interested in breaking them up.

Good characters, especially sterling servants who showed loyalty. Recommend

Beautiful love story

I absolutely enjoyed reading this amazing book. The characters are interesting and entertaining as well as the story line. The story is a beautiful journey of adventure. Mystery and love. The characters make the story quite interesting and fun to read. I found myself completely immersed from beginning to end. The extended epilogue gives the story a beautifully written ending. Excellent writing and I highly recommended it.

Good book

I liked this book a lot. The lady and gentleman married quickly became friends.

Then someone wanted them apart. There were many misunderstandings until they talked and talked.

They found love with each other.

The many events that upset everyone. How could one person's greed cause such harm. Can it be resolved in time?

Fun

Fun read which follows the basic formula of a forced marriage (in this case he rescued her from drowning) leading couple to discover they do love each other.
