This collection of ten short stories from renowned Gibraltar writer Rebecca Calderon is unusual in that each tale is exactly 1000 words. The annual writing competition, organised by the Gibraltar Government, strictly limits the entries to 1000 words, which Rebecca has very artfully mastered and honed over the years.
In 2014 Rebecca entered this competition for the first time and won the top prize for ‘The Immigrant Widow’. She has gone on to win prizes for her short stories and poems; one of her major highlights being shortlisted for the Bridport Prize for Poetry in 2016. The ten stories in this volume offer the reader a sharp and poignant glimpse into a variety of worlds, eras and situations, like trailers for longer novels they hook the reader and leave them wanting more.
