YOU'VE GOT MAIL meets WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER when a phone update from hell results in a dating do-over, a wrong number that might just be the right one, and a battle between a web designer and her PITA client, who don’t realize they’ve been falling for one another—via text.
As a web designer, performing updates so I can enhance my texts with cute new emojis is a must. Only artificial intelligence went all Terminator on me, resending every message from the past year. So glad I got to relive my tumultuous online dating experiences, including drunk texting an ex who ghosted me.
Among the confused and disgruntled are a handful of nice replies, leaving me unsure if the tech gods are smiting or smiling down on me. I take it as a sign I should give my past guys another chance. Turns out, my drunken profession of lust went to some dude with a new number—Luke’s witty, has a sexy voice, and makes me LOL.
As I begin my adventures in re-dating, Luke demands updates, and before long I’m tempted to request a meetup. But he’s quickly hacking his way into my heart, and with the firewall around it crumbling, I’m afraid upgrading our virtual relationship will only result in a heartbreak IRL.

Ellie has a long dating history. When her dating app gets an "update," it turns into the update from hell. Every single message gets resent to all her previous matches from the guy who talked with his eyes closed, to the guy who wrote bad poetry, and to the man she was in love with (and thought was the one) who ghosted her. So it is a pleasant surprise after getting responses she didn't want (from "hey want to hook up" to "now my GF thinks I'm cheating; thanks Ellie") to getting one from someone she doesn't know. It turns out the ass who ghosted her no longer has that phone number and he (Luke) and Ellie begin a wonderful text relationship. They gel well together and eventually meet in person and have some sparks. It also turns out Ellie's PITA client is Luke. Luckily this doesn't turn into an issue and she became a better web designer as a result. I liked how Luke grew to realize he could still travel and do fun things, but realized it would be even better to share those experiences with someone. And Ellie learned to really stand up for herself and what SHE wants instead of compromising too much. Next book is Cat's.

Among the disgruntled are a handful of nice replies, leaving me unsure if the tech gods are smiting or smiling down on me. Especially when a dude with a new number replies—Luke’s witty, makes me LOL, and gives great advice regarding my client who keeps sending snarky emails. As I begin re-dating guys from my past, Luke demands updates. With him quickly hacking his way into my heart, I’m afraid I’m falling for the wrong guy. But when true identities are revealed, it becomes that much harder to convince the adrenaline junkie that love is the greatest adventure of all.
I shouldn't be so surprised but this book really exceeded my expectations. I was expecting a sweet, silly, fun story that would probably make me roll my eyes but got so much more.
Due to a technical glitch when her dating app updates, a year's worth of messages get re-sent to Ellie's former suitors and the predictable calamity ensues. What is unpredictable is that one of her suitors has changed his number and so some of her messages are misdirected to Luke, who is a bit of a wanderer, and is home for a limited time helping his family who own a large real estate company.
I love how both Ellie and Luke have worked hard to get where they have career-wise and I appreciated their open, honest communication with each other. The growth of their relationship was believable and enjoyable. Ellie is someone I could easily see myself being friends with, she is open and optimistic. Luke is someone I would love to hang out with and adventure with, especially the aerial course, though the mix-up with Luke's friends names was a glaring error that needs to be fixed ASAP. Despite his comfortable upbringing, he works hard to make something of himself but struggles with the perceived chains of his family.
I really invested in Ellie and Luke as a strangers-to-friends-to-lovers couple, they suited each other so well. I was a little disappointed that their inevitable fight and break-up occurred so quickly after they decided to make it official and I really think Luke needed to work a little harder to get Ellie back. She grew so much over the course of the book and I was so happy when she make her needs known, but I just didn't get the same sense of growth from Luke, though he did come a long way. I almost dropped the book down to four stars over it, especially since it looks really bad on Luke, but at the end of the day I really enjoyed their story and was happy Ellie turned out to be the strong character that the author had built her into, unwilling to settle. I also would have enjoyed a little more closure regarding the ex-, Dillon, who ghosted her, like a moment where he realizes she's moved on with Luke, but c'est la vie.
I didn't notice that it was second in a series of standalone, interconnected stories so now I'll probably go back and pick up Big Dick Energy before Bang Buddies with Benefits is released in September.
I’ve been a fan of Cindi Madsen’s writing for quite some time. She consistently gives her readers great characters who have great stories, and she tells them with just the right amount of humor (and snarky humor—my favorite—at that!) and emotion. Love’s a Glitch is the second book in her Meet-Cute series, but all of the books are written as stand-alone titles. That said, I do highly recommend Big Dick Energy (book 1) as well.
I really enjoyed watching Ellie and Luke’s relationship grow. And I loved the growth that Ellie showed as the story evolved. Some reviewers have felt like she forgave Luke too easily, but I felt like that stayed true to her personality and how much she grew throughout the story. She’s a giving, caring, loyal person with a big, squishy heart for those in her inner circle. And I loved how Luke was able to get her out of her comfort zone. We all need someone in our lives that challenges us to tackle our fears. Suffice it to say, I loved these two and their journey to their HEA.
Love’s a Glitch is chocked full of sarcastic humor (some seriously lol moments, especially with the technology), great banter among the characters, a timely and relevant plot, and lots of chemistry between the main characters. If you’re looking for a book that’s heavy on humor and light on angst but still has an emotional element to it, this is the one for you.
NICUnurse’s Rating: I give Love’s a Glitch by Cindi Madsen 5 out of 5 stars!
It was okay. I really liked it even though it being very predictable up until the ending. Luke needed to grovel more. Ellie was too forgiving. Luke felt like a stock photo for free spirit-nature dude. His Luke persona and Charles persona did not at all feel like a single person.
Love's a Glitch is such a cute read. I loved Ellie and Luke so much. The meet cute will put a smile on your face as Ellie's disaster of technology takes place. Ellie will put a smile on your face with her goofy ways. Luke will make you swoon with how he is with Ellie. I love Ellie and Luke together. They just have this spark that keeps you turning the pages. I cannot wait for Cat's book next. I couldn't put this one down.
Cindi Madsen is a great rom com author and I was excited to read book two in the Meet Cute series.
Ellie and Luke's story did have shades of You've Got Mail but is by no means a retread of the movie. I liked Ellie and Luke and their story was fun, funny, and entertaining. I am looking forward to more from this series!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
A good fun read. Ellie and Luke are wonderful loveable characters. I enjoyed the storyline from beginning to end and couldn’t put it down. Also I love emojis. Highly recommended!
Sassy, sexy, and laugh out loud funny. If you're looking for a light hearted lazy afternoon escape look no further this book is perfect. Highly recommended.
Love’s a Glitch is the second title in Cindi Madsen’s Meet-Cute series. It reads well as a standalone story but directly follows on from the first and sets the scene for the third title. Ellie and her two best friends Penny and Cat have been introduced in Big Dick Energy, the first book of the series, but in Love’s a Glitch we get to know Ellie better as she continues her quest for love. Having spent the previous year trying to find her perfect man on dating apps, Ellie gave up after falling for one of her dates before being ghosted by him. Three months later eternal romantic Ellie decides to have another try at finding love online but when she tries to log into a dating app it repeatedly crashes before resending all of her old messages.. including the drunk ones she’d sent to Dillon, the man who’d ghosted her.
Luke is a photographer who has spent the last decade travelling around the world, having adventures and experiencing a very different lifestyle to the privileged one he’d grown up in. After his father has a health scare and steps back from running their family real estate company, Luke reluctantly returns home to help run the company and also decide on a new website design but is unimpressed with the work the designer has offered. The one bit of relief from this stifling office job comes when a series of messages and photos, from an apparently drunk woman, pop up on his new phone. Captivated by the woman in the photos, Luke replies to the messages, leading to regular text chats with Ellie. Ellie and Luke grow closer and closer, Luke not realising that Ellie is the infuriating web designer and Ellie unaware that Luke is the dull and demanding client (both going by variants of their names for work).
Ellie is a romantic who has always dreamed of marriage and children, whereas Luke is “not a relationship person” and cannot see a settled family life in his future. Knowing that a relationship is not an option, Ellie and Luke each try to see the other as a platonic friend but once they meet in person that becomes more and more difficult as their chemistry is so strong. Ellie doesn’t want to settle for less than her ideal match and Luke is determined that his time working for the family firm is temporary but each are pulled to the other.
The narrative of Love’s a Glitch is from the points of view of both Ellie and Luke so the reader gets to know both well and understand their motivations and vulnerabilities. Whilst the story at times is extremely funny, it is also quite emotional at times and I felt for both protagonists, hoping that their differences would work out. Overall the storyline is well planned and flows well, although, for me, the ending felt a little weak. I really enjoyed reading Love’s a Glitch and would recommend to anyone who likes a romance that is both fun and spicy.
🔸Spoilers - i) I felt that more could’ve been made about Ellie’s past and why Luke would make her feel vulnerable: her father left when she was young and she never heard from him again, and then Dillon ghosted her after she’d told him that she loved him. Ellie has a fear of that she’ll be abandoned and forgotten by men she loves. ii) When Ellie and Luke realise that they are Eloise and Charles, the storyline seemed a bit flat and underwhelming, especially the decisions about the website.🔸

I enjoy Cindi Madsen's work and this sounded cute so I picked it up on sale one day. And it is cute. But that's really all it is. Yes, it's entertaining and I don't have major issues with it but it doesn't measure up to her other work.
First, Luke felt a little stock-character-y. I bet if I Google "nature photographer", I will easily find a photo that looks exactly like Luke. He didn't feel as fleshed out as others. It's like all the attention was put on Ellie and not much was left for Luke. And I couldn't reconcile his Charles persona; I don't feel like we as readers understood where he was coming from with that. He admitted several times to a Luddite and not really knowing the family business as much as he should if he needed to make big decisions.
Second, there were errors in the book. Not just grammatical errors but whole words missing that made the sentences read weird. It was a tad annoying. And a minor character's name changed within a scene for no reason.
This isn't a Cindi Madsen I'd recommend, even though I had a fine time reading it.
What appealed to me originally about this story is that it start with a text message that the wrong person gets. From there it is really a poignant story.
Ellie is the effervescent, caring, funny heroine and Luke the holy heart eyes hot adventure photographer that his parents want to join the family company and have a “real” job.
It’s easy to see why these two fall in love over text messages, phone calls and IRL meetings. I kept reading because it was so funny, romantic and eventually had to hit that conflict wall and break all of our hearts. There is a lot to this story to love, so enjoy reading it.
Love's a Glitch was an entertaining read! I think I liked Big Dick Energy a little more than Love's a Glitch, but it isn't that far behind it. I really liked Ellie and how she's her true self around Luke. She's got a big heart and she deserves to find her person after all the bad eggs she's seen. I liked Luke as well, he just frustrated me a few times throughout the book. Him and Ellie are really cute together! They get each other and want nothing but good things for one another, they just have some obstacles they have to face first. It was a funny, steamy, and slightly emotional book, and I enjoyed it!
An insta-love story about an adventurous guy who's trying to fit the family business mold, but really wants to be a natgeo photographer traveling the world, and a techy girl who let a dating app get the best of her. In a case of mistaken identity, she starts up a conversation with the new owner of her ex's phone, and they hot it off. However, it turns out he's the hard-to-please client she's been struggling to work with. They'll have to both forgive a little and compromise a little to make things work.
This is a fun, entertaining read. Lucas and Ellie are interesting, relatable, intriguing, complex, wounded, strong, complicated, entertaining characters. I enjoyed their romance and the path it took to get to their HEA. These two are fun to spend time with. The secondary characters – kids to cats – added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. I love both the friends and family aspects of the story and those characters. The story is easy to read and get into.
Ellie's phone accidentally resends texts when it updates and Luke gets the texts met for Ellie's ex. Luke is nice and tells Ellie it's not her ex, but starts texting her. They end up talking and going on adventures together. They were really cute together, but didn't know that they were emailing for work. Really enjoyed this book!
Nothing worse than technology failing. It's like the saying, when one door closes, another opens. This technical failure definitely opened new doors for Ellie and Luke. Who knew a wrong text could lead to love.
Loved these two, their story was great, very well written, I have lived this whole series so far, the author had really brought the characters to life, I couldn't put it down.
It was actually funny, which was the main thing I was looking for. Loved the interactions between Ellie and Luke, the lighthearted stuff and the hot stuff. If only I could meet a man by humiliating myself like she did. lol
This was a cute story with wonderful characters and ended with a HEA.
The quote I got from the story was: "I had to add my two dollars because that’s what I do….” She always claimed two cents was far too low a fee for her expert services.
Read on Radish. Ellie’s texting fiasco lands her an interesting wrong number contact. Love how she develops more than just working apps and clarifies dates with Luke’s input.
