A hardened spy. A stubborn debutante. And a madman that is intent to see them both dead.

Lord Evan Corbyn is responsible for all of the agents of the Crown. It is a job that he takes most seriously, and it occupies nearly every moment of his waking life. When one of his agents is murdered, he is determined to bring the killer to justice. However, he quickly realizes that all is not what it seems, and this case is anything but straightforward.

Lady Jane Radcliff tires of her brothers’ secrets and is determined to root out the truth. However, it is proving to be a much more difficult task than she had imagined. Thankfully, she is rescued by the dashing Lord Evan, a man whom she has always held in high regard.

As they wrestle with their feelings for one another, a dangerous person from Evan’s past comes back to haunt him, causing him to push Jane far away to protect her. In doing so, he realizes that she has taken his heart with her.

Is he strong enough to make room for Jane in his heart or will he choose the easier, but more solitary life?

I found parts of this book sweet and enjoyable but was frustrated by from a third of the way in of the increasing numbers of simplistic actions and conversations and mannerisms of the characters. At times the h presented as thoughtful and intelligent but by the second half of the book, she appeared to have lost her intelligence. I ended up skimming.

I found this novel suspenseful and intriguing as Lord Evan Corbyn is plagued by the loss of a valuable agent, and then an informant, not to mention Lady Jane who keeps on getting into trouble. Evan has his hands full trying to keep tabs on all the agents reporting to him and has very little time for personal affairs, let alone matters of the heart. Although Lady Jane has caught his eye, he knows that with his past and the secrets that blanket his life, he has no place desiring a match with her. Lady Jane Radcliff is inquisitive and her curiosity leads her into danger. When Lord Evan comes to the rescue, she thinks she may just have a chance with him. However, Evan's unequivocal pronouncement regarding love and marriage leaves Jane feeling defeated. Unfortunately, the spark that exists between Evan and Jane has already been noted, putting Jane in the crosshairs of a dangerous man. I enjoyed this novel, the suspense, and ultimately the attraction that sprung up between Evan and Jane. The epilogue certainly points to an illustrious future, although not without some sadness and loss. I received a copy of this book as a gift from Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I'm enjoying this Regency spy series, and now we finally get Lord Corbyn's story. He's in charge of all the agents of the Crown. It's a heavy responsibility and one he doesn't take lightly. When one of his agents is killed he's determined to find out who's responsible. Lady Jane Radcliff still has no idea what her brothers' secrets are, and she hates it. She gets herself into some sticky situations trying to figure out what her brother Oliver is up to, but thankfully Corbyn is there to help out.

These two don't know they're each developing feelings for the other, and Jane is hurt when Corbyn pushes her away to keep her safe, but the man after Corbyn means to get to him and will use any means necessary. Jane isn't as shallow as she may come across and proves that when she's used as bait by the man after Corbyn.

I really liked both of the main characters especially Lord Corbyn and his having to deal with his father's attitude toward's his job. His father thinks his son just works at the home office--he doesn't know Corbyn is in charge of all of the agents of the Crown and he can't know that. I liked that Jane finally gets all the answers she was looking for. I liked the addition of Mr. Stewart (the Bow Street Runner) and hope to see more of him in the next book. This had some exciting parts and although the reader knows who the bad guy is, we don't really know how it's all going to turn out.

A Dangerous Lord by Laura Beers is a story featuring a spy, a debutant, and a mad man. The MCs are Lord Evan Corbyn (the spy) and Lady Jane Radcliff (the debutant) and they take you on a journey of action, subterfuge, double crossing, suspense, intrigue, and a growing attraction that can no longer be denied. When nothing is as it seems Evan is faced with problems from his past. As a man who is able to look danger in the face and laugh at it he is facing his most daunting situation, a situation where there are no easy solutions, is Evan strong enough to fall in love?

This is a well-written storyline with characters that are well developed and easy to connect with, yet I couldn’t help but feel like this story was missing a huge aspect of the plot, the romance. Instead this story overflow’s with action that keeps you flipping the pages as fast as possible. I am sorry but the lack of romance, passion, chemistry, and intimate encounters caused the book to fall a little flat for me. Maybe it’s just me but I believe that novels in the romance genre, should have a large portion of the plot and MC interactions focused on relationship development, emotional connection, and passion. This story lacked those aspects which left me feeling bereft by the end of the book.

Overall 3 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 1 Flame 🔥

This is book three , and especially interesting. Baldwin, and Oliver are married, but still hold secrets. They have not revealed anything to their younger sister Jane. Lord Evan still stops by to talk to Baldwin since his retirement, and get reports from Oliver, but he tries to resist his attraction to Jane. Lord Evan soon discovers someone is picking off people who he has been close to, and leaving behind scripted notes. Jane has been attacked twice, and as they all work together, with a new character, a respected agent is suspected. Baldwin, and Lord Evan thought he had died in a skirmish in France doing a secret job for the crown. Could he be alive? Why is he killing innocent people, and why is the bank of England reporting forged currency.? Are the two cases related ? Plus is a denied suitor trying to kidnap Jane? Could she be in danger from the Crown' s business instead? Either way her two brothers, and Lord Evan plan to keep her safe. The storyline was pretty thrilling, since something was constantly going on. The ending was very romantic, and I loved the Epilogue six years later. I love how each book brings in characters, from the first two books. There is a twist at the end ,that I did not see coming. I gave it 5 stars.. . The characters are very realistic, and I love their banter, between each other.

This is the third book in the series & my favourite. I’m pleased Evan has his story & what a lovely mix of romance & mystery it was. A slow burn romance as Evan is so engrossed in his work & has no time for romance & marriage but there is a spark between him & Jane & it’s that spark that puts Jane in danger. A well written book that had strong characters & was fast paced. It drew me in from the start & held me until the epilogue
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I found this story the most developed of the series. I found Corbyn and Jane to be worthy characters and the mystery kept me guessing in spite of the bad guy being revealed well before the end.

Jane on appearance may have not had much depth and didn’t seem to be as involved with things as her predecessors in the series. However, she was everything she needed to be and was trying to find herself. She was compassionate and kept her head about her when it counted.

Corbyn was torn by his heart and his sense of duty, and I loved learning more about him.

The story gets stronger with every book in the series.

Full of a mystery and intrigue, he is responsible for the agents of the Crown. Yes, a daunting task that requires his focus and dedication. When he finds an agent dead, the mystery begins.

Her brother seemed to keep disappearing and she is determined to find out what he is doing. Unfortunately she ends up in an unsavory place following him and finds herself in danger. Luckily he sees her there and rescues her.

They are destined to come together, but will they both survive? A great story that will keep you wondering what will happen next!

Good book

I really enjoy this author’s style of writing. Her stories pull you and keep you intrigued. This book is no exception. Fun to see how this story played out and included the previous chapters from this series.

meh 2.5

I really liked Corbyn’s character in the first of this series. He was serious and committed to justice and had a touch of true world weariness. But this was another kind of variation of copy and paste of the last novel. Oh no, we can be together because I can’t tell you the truth about being a spy! Oh no! There’s something super dangerous going on but it’s totally on the back burner! The heroes spend more time together sipping their drinks and discussing their feelings than spending time fighting crime or even spending time building a relationship with their love interest. There is a waltz, of course, but otherwise not many interactions between Corbin and Jane. There’s so much potential in these plots so it’s hard to see it not met. Jane was so spirited in the last two novels but here she’s just kinda of foolish and then fades to the background.

A Dangerous Lord by Laura Beers is a Regency spy novel and a good one to boot! Lord Evan Corbyn is the second son of a duke. Dissatisfied with being a soldier he has returned to London and is the chief of an unnamed spy bureau deep within the bowels of the Home Office. He takes his job seriously and is protective of his agents, requiring that they stay in close touch. When one doesn't, he gets right on it. Lady Jane Radcliff lives with her mother and her two brothers and their wives. Her older brother, Baldwin had recently returned from a three-year disappearance, and was married to a lovely woman called Madalene. Her younger brother, Oliver was married to Emmeline and appeared to love her but still behaved in a most outrageous manner...she didn't appears bother by his drinking and absences from home. Most curious. Her mother was anxious to see her married off; she was anxious to fall in love. She enjoyed seeing Lord Evan when he called on Baldwin but rarely saw him at balls or other entertainments. For Lord Evan, her attempted abduction was one in a line of crimes aimed at him. It was after that that her realized how he felt about her, not that he would ever act on it.

This is the third appearance of Lord Evan and he is a well-written character, his personality revealing itself slowly. He is self-contained, has an abundance of self-control, and holds a grudge. He is also kind, a loyal friend, and a loving man (toward his mother, at least). Jane is intelligent, curious, and hard working. She wants to make the world a better place and puts herself at risk volunteering to do just that. This is a good mystery, part of a dashingly good series, full of chasing about, dangerous situations, and good old-fashioned violence. The pacing is perfect, as required in a thriller, and is heart pounding. The skills of Lord Evan's men and associates are mostly beyond reproach, and heroes are made. Discoveries are made, both personal and professional, and people are made to pay. A good book. I suggest you try it.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of A Dangerous Lord by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #adangerouslord

I could not wait to read this third story in the Regency Spies & Secrets Series. Getting peeks at the two main characters in this book in the previous books had me anxious to finally read their story.

Lord Evan Corbyn has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders as he heads the secret group of the agents of the Crown. Things he regrets in his own past makes him feel he can never pursue a relationship with a woman to settle down with a wife. Things begin to get very difficult for him as someone from his past has decided to settle a score killing people that are important to him. In the midst of this his attraction for his friend and former spy, Baldwin Radcliff, the Marquess of Hawthorne's sister Lady Jane has him feeling unsettled. Saving her more than once keeps putting her into his focus and with an enemy after him he doesn't want anyone to realize his affection for her.

Lady Jane Radcliff has tried hard to understand her two older brothers but she knows they are keeping secrets. Her anger towards her brother Oliver has her trying to follow him into a very dangerous area. When Lord Evan rescues her from some dangerous men- she is grateful and wishing for so much more with him. She has has an affection for him for years and every man she meets pales when she compares them to him.

This was an enjoyable story with strong characters. Lady Jane may finally get the answers to the secrets she knows are being hidden as well as a chance at a deeper relationship with Lord Evan.

I did really enjoy this book! Firstly, I appreciated that while there was romance and some tension between our hero and heroine, there was nothing inappropriate. There are way too many books that focus on sex, and lots of it. So I really enjoyed that this book was a clean read. I have not read any of the previous books, and it was nice that you didn't really have to. It was easy to read as a standalone and not feel that I was totally missing out on something. The writing was very well done, and Lady Jane was a likeable character. She was headstrong, yet not overly antagonistic. Yes, she did go off to the rookeries on her own which was foolish, yet she learned and did not do anything like it again. I enjoyed Lord Evan's character progression, realizing that he could have love in his life and still do the work that he greatly enjoys. Overall, this was a good clean read, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a mystery period piece.

Not my cup of tea, unfortunately. A good writer, but too “old school” for me. Meaning that there are lots and lots of scenes with people taking tea and making small talk and exchanging pleasantries, but the plot, which is very interesting by the way, goes on very slowly. And for half the book the hero and heroine just meet a couple of times, while they meet and interact with a bunch of other people by themselves (even a totally unnecessary suitor for her). And their connection is not at all palpable. They just start to like each other from afar and boom, they are in love… Also I hated the patronizing way the heroine was treated by the males of her family and by the hero himself.
And no steam at all, which sometimes I don’t mind but when there’s at least sexual tension between the characters. This time there was nothing at all.
Entertaining, but sometimes it’s not enough for me…

This was suspenseful and some surprises thrown in. But, I wanted the H to stop repeating why he couldn't have a relationship with the h plus his guilt over what happened to a friend in France.

It was nice to see the couples from books 1 and 2 have major parts. This is a stand alone, but as with some series, you have cross over character's.

This is a clean story with one kiss. I'm glad some of the secrets were finally revealed. I did want the brother's to confess to their mother and the H to confess his role to his father.

No cheating, some interesting secondary character's, some violence, no cliffhanger, HEA, some romance and clean. I can't improve on the blurb, just some highlights of the story. (ljb)

There is only one man that Lady Jane would ever be willing to marry but unfortunately for her Corbyn is not prepared to marry...

I struggled to warm up to Lady Jane as she appeared rather judgemental towards her brothers and the secrets they were keeping but at the same time I felt really sorry for her she felt that she was being sheltered like many other aristocratic young ladies.

I couldn't help pitying Corbyn because of his rather shady past preventing him from courting the only woman he would ever dream of marrying and the way his parents and older brother treated him as an embarrassment to the family honour.

Regency Spies & Secrets is an incredible series which combines my two favourite themes Historical Romance and Mystery.

Romance - Clean
Violence - Mild and not graphic
Language - None
Series - Book 3

I loved this book, like LOVED this book. The whole series is fantastic, but this was by far my favorite of the 3.

The characters are well established, appearing in all 3, so we know them well. The mystery was very well written, and again, my favorite of the series. I love Corbyn and loved getting to know his story better. He and Jane are so adorable together.

I highly recommend this series, as well her other Regency Spy Romance series (The Beckett Files). Both are excellent series, each book building on the last.

Laura Beers is one of my favorite authors.

I’m so glad that Lord Evan and Lady Jane got their story! I really liked how closely the three stories tied into each other. This was a super fun trilogy to read-one right after the other-it kept the characters and stories fresh without seeming repetitive because it just flowed from one spy mission to another.

I've read several of Laura Beers books and now I have read all 3 books of the Regency Spies & Secrets series and I'm not always wishing for more, but I feel like the author just keeps getting better and better with every book she writes. Corbyn and Jane's story made a great addition to the series. The book flows at a nice pace. The characters are well-written and I've liked them from book one. The epilogue was a nice addition, but I still want more of the characters. This book was full of action and intrigue. I read it in one sitting. This book is somewhat romantic, but there is no sex or great passion.

Another clean and sweet mystery and romance

Another intriguing mystery but this time it involves Corbyn and Jane. Jane has alway loved him but he has too many secrets to allow his feelings for her to show. In this story there are family issues to settle, a case of a mysterious killer attacking the agency’s dealings and of course obstacles to overcome so Corbyn and Jane find their happiness.
This author continues to inspire me to look forward to her next book release.

Love Overcomes

Each book in this series has dealt beautifully with men who led lives of danger and intrigue and the women who loved them. I never thought I would read of the head spy and the woman who loved him enough for him to consider a life beyond being a spy. Excellent story of strong family dynamics, both good and bad, as well as revenge, hatred, and murders. Thank goodness for a happy ending with only a small amount of sadness...

No real connection between Corbyn and Jane. They were set up to be amazing characters in the last books. I was prepared to LOVE them. But in this book there was little to no character development, banal/repetitive conversations, no chemistry, a lot of telling instead of showing, weak spy plot details, and both Jane and Corbyn seemed unintelligent.

It was a disappointment all around. Perhaps the author is cranking out her books too fast? There seemed little effort put into this one. Too bad.

Intriguing romantic suspense

This was a wonderful conclusion to this series. Corbyn and Jane’s story was fitting for them. Their personalities have stayed consistent through the earlier books and their story was well done. The characters were interesting and the dialogue was well done. This whole series is definitely worth reading at least once.

Head of Agents of the Crown meets his match

You are following tale of espionage and a dance of the hearts of two who cannot admit their feelings. I came to greatly respect the character of both the main characters....and it was wrapped in the familiarity of the characters in the first 2 books. Hard to put down!

Intriguing but a bit stilted

I liked the storyline. The mystery and intrigue was enough to keep my attention. But I felt like the dialogue and the characters were a bit flat and stilted. I didn’t get any sense of chemistry and romance between the two characters. It all felt a little bit too formal.

Fun and entertaining story! I felt that there was a lot of tell instead of show in the book and a bit of the dialogue felt unnecessary and lacking depth. Example (not actually from the book): H “that sounds great,” h “I’m so glad,” H “I’m glad you’re glad,” h “ok.” It made the story drag a bit unfortunately. I loved the characters and the overall story and plot was great!

Lord Corbyn has a lot on his shoulders. He's trying to care for all the agents under him and make sure no threats against the Crown can succeed, while keeping his work secret from his complaining family. But then an agent is murdered. Can they catch the killer before they do more damage?
This was a really good mystery. I liked this one.
