The world teaches us that childbirth and labor pretty much sucks. It's going to be awful and extremely painful. Writhing in pain and begging for drugs is what friends, family, movies, and social media tell us. I heard it all and believed that was the way it's supposed to be. God tore down those lies and showed me the truth! I've birthed four babies naturally without pain and no tearing—four pregnancies without morning sickness and complications. I've had four wonderful postpartum experiences. The great news is that this same experience is available to every woman through Jesus. This book's purpose is to take you through my journey of breaking free from the world system of what birthing looks like and exchange it for the Kingdom, His righteousness, and what God intended for all women to experience. This book has scriptures that will open your eyes to blessings you may have never realized are yours to receive. Many people have said to me that I'm either lying or have a special superhuman gift. The truth is, I do have a special superhuman gift, and His name is Jesus! If you have Jesus, I am no different than you. We have the same supernatural abilities and anointing, for we have the same Anointed One in us.
This is by far the worst book I’ve read on pregnancy and childbirth.
I initially had high hopes for this book! I wanted something that helped with some of the practicals of dealing with various pains throughout pregnancy and labor, and reminders through scriptures to keep my eyes focused on Jesus through it all…
Instead I got a book full of the prosperity gospel, and name it and claim it heresy… so many contradictions and scriptures twisted and taken out of context… extremely disappointed in this one, and I do not recommend any pregnant mothers read this.
This book was a great addition to read after Ina May’s Childbirth book. It reminded me to keep faithfully telling people my birth plan and not to shy away from the decisions my husband and I made for our labor plans when talking to other people; to not let the world, but God, be in control.
4.5 Even though this is a childbirth book, I would suggest this to any christian women pregnant or not. It is full of scripture and good points on how to love ourselves the way God loves us.
Although there were good parts in this book and I do love it when people bring the gospel into their books, it left me a very disappointed and probably would not recommend it.
The author says God answered her prayer for children, and he will do the same for all of us. I don’t think we should tell others how God will answer their prayers. God does not promise all of us children and he doesn’t promise us an easy life. Does he want us to live our best life and have children “yes” but he does not promise it.
The first several chapters are just about her life. Her first son and how God spoke to her. She was praying and demanding stuff like not going to the hospital and not allowing her body to have a miscarriage. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. She shares a lot about how great her whole birth and postpartum journey is, but not everyone has that experience. It’s almost a little boastful.
Almost all of the book is spent talking about her pregnancy experience and then about the gospel and how everyone can have a pain-free birth. It’s more a book about the Bible, gospel, Bible verses and living without fear but less about birth and preparing for labor or life after baby is born. I love verses but a verse every couple sentences is a lot.
When Eve sinned God said labor would be painful. I think we should try to find ways to trust God and manage the pain but I don’t believe we can ever go against Gods word and say labor will be completely pain free. I do agree though that we should choose to look at the positive things about pregnancy and birth. She referenced Isaiah 66:7–8 as a verse for why people can have a pain-free birth, but that is a metaphor about Zion got people and restoring them. It is not talking about childbirth literally.
I appreciate the encouragement and Christ-centered focus of this book. Definitely many tangible takeaways, especially as I prepare for L&D of my second child in the next few weeks. I had a natural birth with my first, but I can't say it was painless - my mindset will be so much different this time around, both because it isn't "new" anymore and because of Nissa's words and advice.
I will say that some of my beliefs and ways of praise and worship differ from hers, but that's OKAY - I think with any spiritual book, you have to read and take things with a "grain of salt", depending on where you are coming from and knowing that intentions are pure on both sides.
Altogether, I appreciated this book and am thankful I read it - I simply wouldn't make it my #1 top recommended book for an expecting mother ... (& I've read a LOT of pregnancy and L&D books!).
One more thing, is it just me, or does it seem crazy that this book not available in a format conducive to my Kindle Paperwhite? Even the "Kindle" version was only available to read in the Kindle app on my phone or iPad. Hey publisher, can you pretty please update to allow for greater access? :)
This book was not for me. Essentially the book boils down to positive spiritual psychology. Most of the content is some variation of pray / positively think away all pain, fear, and difficulties you have around birth. There are a few helpful practical tips, but they are watered down summaries of Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, which is a book I'd highly recommend by the way and read concurrently with this one. If you are a name it and claim it type Christian with bible verses on your car, laptop and coffee mug, then this book might be right up your alley. If you're a Christian who's antenna goes up when people speak VERY confidently about how frequently and specifically God has spoken to them, pass this book over.
Truly enjoyed this book, there is great tips for pregnant women. I didn't believe that painless delivery was possible but after reading this book it gave me hope that it can actually happen in my life too. Nissa labor experiences are supernatural, comes to show that God still works in every one of us up to this day. I enjoyed the truth she spoke how our perspective during pregnancy truly matters and don't be saying harsh things to yourself. Great tips in what to eat and what work outs helps the most! It's a book to read slowly and take in what you are reading and actually apply them into your life. Great book even for those who aren't pregnant yet to prepare for there supernatural experience!
I wish I would've read this during my last pregnancy! I was looking for a book like this but didn't find it until 4 months post partum. But wow this book is so full of God's truth and power! So many things clicked for me! After reading this I am now excited for my next pregnancy, and plan on having a supernatural, pain-free, Spirit-lead home birth to the glory of God!
I really did not enjoy the beginning, BUT there is so much great scripture and biblical truth weaved in and very great affirmations and practical things you can do to partner with Jesus to have a fear free pain free delivery towards the end. Once I started annotating it made it a lot more enjoyable
I’m so thankful for this book! I’ve never read a book where my thoughts & heart have lined up so much with an author. Our father is so good & faithful. I’m so excited to partner with him and birth first our baby girl in a few weeks! 🧡
The BEST book I have read for equipping women of God prepare for birth. I CANNOT wait to have my third baby now because of the knowledge I have gleaned from Nissa. Thank you Jesus for using her to teach me your ways!
Love Nissa’s transparency! Plenty of funny moments yet having biblical views. I love testimonies that help ppl to realize if God can do it for one he can do it for others.
