Wanting the dean's daughter isn't smart, but he's never had to rely on his brains, only his skates.

Gavin Wright doesn't have much except his scholarship and the hockey team, which is fine by him. To lose focus is to lose everything. He doesn't need friends, and especially doesn't need a girlfriend. Especially some privileged, BMW-driving princess.

Her family would disown her if they knew she had feelings for a charity case, but her heart won't listen.

Every cell in Stella Evans's brain tells her to steer clear of the sexy, brooding hockey player who sits next to her in Biology lab. Gavin is cold and cruel and treats her like she's the last person on earth he wants to be around. And yet she can't help the way her body responds when he's nearby.

She's a distraction he can't afford. He's a sure path to her undoing. But one night, one kiss, threatens to destroy them both.

I have a rocky relationship with this book, and here’s why…
*possible spoilers

In the first five pages, we are given a major info dump, and it’s not delivered in the most smooth sounding manor. I could pretty much predict everything based on those first five or so pages. This isn’t such a bad thing, and many people don’t mind it, but I felt as if there was little development due to this.
Another thing that really bothered me was that this all took place in a VERY short amount of time. It felt so rushed and there was little to no build up in anything at all. I felt like the author was trying to get scenes done and move on rather than taking time to make everything more drawn out. There was also a couple unnecessary scenes, like the gym scene, that could have been brought back up later in some way to build the story rather than carry no real meaning.
Now onto the characters….
I felt like the authors original purpose was for Gavin to be the disgruntled hockey player with a chip on his shoulder who becomes slowly caught up in a girl, taking away from his work ethic in hockey. Instead, I feel that Gavin fell too fast and hard for Stella, and he has no personality outside of being obsessed with her. Sure, it’s mentioned that he didn’t have the best childhood and that hockey saved him, but we don’t really see that. They get in one tiny little argument over him rushing off to a meeting with coach, in which I though they MC was wayyyy to whiny over, and that’s it. It would have been interesting to see hockey possibly drive more of a wedge between them, or at least get more of him on the ice. I would have also like for Stella to meet his mom in the book and maybe make a thing out of it.
Stella was the child who wasn’t seen as “perfect,” but I feel like that wasn’t built on enough. There wasn’t much drama around it and her sister should have come into the picture more. I feel like she came off as a “pick me” girl instead.
Their relationship moved way too fast for my liking, despite them both second guessing everything at stupid times and there being almost no trust between them. It should’ve been drug out months or at least weeks instead of only in days.

Despite all my complaining, the book was all around that bad. It was what I would call a Hallmark Hockey Romance, as everything happened too fast and the romance is too cheesy yet you can’t help but keep reading and not hating it. I would still be interested in reading another one of the author’s books in the future.

Stella is trying to make a life of her own and be happy. She tries to abide by her father's rules, but knows she can't keep living under his control. She meets Gavin, a hockey player in college and they form a connection when assigned to be lab partners. But her dad disapproves, and when he is the dean of Gavins college? Things can become intense.

The story was well done and while it was a stereotypical romance, it had its moments of uniqueness. I felt like Stella's father flipped his opinion too quickly on the end and it didn't feel natural and felt forced just so the couple can have a happy ending.

Gavin and Stella

Gavin was the hockey player who got a scholarship which was the only way he could ever go to college and Stella was the rich girl whose father was the dean at their college. Dear old dad had much to be desired since he ruled over Stella and had her constantly jumping hoops. Gavin had no need for girls or love at this time. He was a focused young man with an upbringing that pulled at your heartstrings. There are times though that hearts wants what it wants.

This is a sweet sports romance that had you rooting for the young couple.

Gavin and Stella…. do they even stand a chance? The odds are against them, especially when daddy pulls a power play… and I’m not talking about on the ice.

Gavin is on a hockey and academic scholarship at Boston College. He’s never had a life with love in it. His single mother worked three jobs to keep a roof over his head so her time with Gavin was limited. Thanks to a caring neighbor he learned to play hockey. He’s worked hard for an education and played hard on the ice. There was no time for relationships, let alone love.

Stella had every material thing life could throw at her. Her parents were wealthy and ‘high society’. Her dad was the dean of Boston College. He was controlling and manipulative. Stella has to toe the line or be on daddy’s bad side. She lives under a constant financial threat of being pulled out of college if she doesn’t get all A’s. So, as you can see, dear ol’ dad certainly was no role model of what a loving man should be.

It won’t be easy for Stella or Gavin. There will be threats and obstacles to climb and they have to decide if love is worth the price.

👁^👁 OBSERVATIONS:

✅ The last few chapters had more and better depth to them. It was then that I became emotionally involved.

✅ I felt sorry for Stella but also frustrated with her …. her total dependence on her parents was not good. She was smart and could have applied for a scholarship as well as taking on a part time job. Those moves would have straightened daddy out real quick. It would have so embarrassed him with his high society friends that I’m betting he would be the one begging Stella to let him pay her tuition and expenses. It was good to finally see her challenge her dad. I would have liked to have read more of that.

✅ Gavin was between a rock and a hard spot. I felt for him but wondered why he wasn’t more prepared when called to the dean’s office. He had a good idea why he was summoned so why not have his phone ready to record the conversation? I also wondered why Gavin didn’t go to the coach to talk about the threats made to him.

✅ Would like better character development, a lot more depth. I want to 'feel' the storyline not just read it.

Omg Emma does it again! Damn! Okay, I have a rule in general… NO SPORTS BOOKS… but Emma has got me TWICE with sports books, not only that with HOCKEY!! of all sports lol. I was heavily into sports when I was younger 🤔🤔🤔 damn, I make it sound like I’m an old man but anyways I don’t follow sports now because athletes are a bunch of woke liberal babies. I cannot roll with that. No sir. Not for me. So in general reading about it doesn’t interest me either. But her match made series has a hockey player in it and I love that book so much and here we are with a college hockey player and this book was AMAZING!! Now I must read book two!! Because I really liked Justin’s character as well. Especially catching a snippet of what book two is about I’m all over that! I also hope Harper gets a book because I’m really interested in her character as well. Back on track here Gavin and Stella were so good together! Her dad was a grade A moby-dick. You know people like her family exist and that’s so sad. Her mom that poor pathetic woman that’s so spineless just takes the mental abuse from that fop of a slob while the suck up sister reaps all the benefits because she knows how to lick boots better than her younger sister. Disgusting. They had such a nice love story though. Full of passion and heat. Even though losers like stubby D Hunter tried his best to use the daddy angle to get her back. Another pathetic piece of lice. 🤢🤮. This book was filled with filthy characters but also filled with some gems and I really hope we see the coach get a book. Like seriously I’d read a book with Cohen and that Physics teacher 👩‍🏫😘😜. Stella seemed like such a great girlfriend and I would have loved to have read more about their story, especially after graduation or her meeting his mom etc. I’d have love to see how their life ended up 5 years down the line. The story was just good!! This bear 🐻 gave this book 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Definitely check this book out and Emma’s Match Made series. Both or superb!

**** THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. WILL ADD ANOTHER WARNING BEFORE SPOILERS ****

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. While I did enjoy this book, it didn’t grab me and draw me in. I didn’t have a problem putting this book down to do house work or run errands, which would typically be an issue when a book has taken over my attention.

**** SPOILERS ****

The main issue that I have with this book is the lack of character development. Gavin dislikes Stella from the beginning but there is an attraction there. When I read a book that starts off with a character disliking someone, I want to see the ice melt. I want to witness all the little things that change their mind and I just didn’t get that from this book. It was like he disliked her one minute and then he wanted to be with her the next. Another problem I had was with Stellas dad. Stella told her dad multiple times that Gavin made her happy and yet he threatened Gavins scholarship and place on the hockey team if he didn’t stop seeing Stella and was ordered not to tell her. However when all was out in the open her dad suddenly changed his mind and told Gavin he could see how happy he made Stella. It all just seemed a little to unrealistic, people’s emotions rarely change on a whim, there needs to be some kind of growth before a sudden change in heart and we just don’t get to see that.

All in all though even though I did dislike the lack of character development. This book is still a good read. There is a soft spot in my heart for hockey romances and I did love that the author didn’t make Gavin a “dumb jock” like a lot of sports romances.

So, I’m kind of upset now that my husband isn’t a hockey player. I’ll have to remember that for next time 🤫

I completely DEVOURED this book! Read the whole thing in 2 1/2 hours. Could not put it down. Totally cliche, but I kept telling myself I would just finish the chapter I was on and then go to bed. Well, that didn’t happen… Did I wake my husband up at almost 1AM after finishing this book? Yes I did. Was my husband angry about it? No, no he was not 😉

Even though my husband and I moved quickly with our relationship, I honestly hate reading books that do that. The speed of this romance between Gavin and Stella was ✨perfect✨ and realistic which made me love this book even more. And if that doesn’t get you to want to read it, it’s also plays into a forbidden love in a way. Who doesn’t want that these days?? Gavin pulled at my heartstrings and the name Stella is super hot. I didn’t even need the character descriptors to know she was a total babe. All of the characters and their relationships were believable and relatable which is probably the main reason I couldn’t put it down in all honesty. Smut level is super spicy but it’s not what kept me hooked. For that I am thankful because books seem to be just 🌶 spice 🌶 these days with no plot. I was worried this would be one of those, but I was glad to find out it was not.

I definitely want more after finishing this and can’t wait to read other books from the author. Thank you Emma Tharp for the eARC. It was definitely a pleasure!

This is the first book in the new Golden Boys Hockey series by Emma Tharp, and also the first book of hers that I have read and I am blown away by her writing style. I adore hockey romance and sometimes the balance between the sport and the romance is hard to get right, but Ms. Tharp has done an excellent job. If you aren’t into hockey or sports romances because of the talk of technicalities of the game, you will like this book. The majority of the hockey scenes are focused on the games, the fights (fun!) and the fans. None of the scenes talk about the rules of the game, making it easier to follow when you don’t know rage rules. Ok, let’s face it — I like hockey for the well built, handsome, talented guys!

This is the story of Stella and Gavin, the Dean’s daughter and a hockey player. They seem to have instant chemistry when they first meet, but Gavin is too focused on hockey and purposely dismisses Stella rather rudely. Then they end up as lab partners in class and Gavin can no longer deny his feelings. They have a rocky start, but their relationship moves forward very fast with things are going well until someone butts into their relationship.

I enjoyed how Gavin is thoughtful and respectful to Stella, it shows he cares deeply for her. Stella running after Gavin and taking care of him when he’s injured in a fight during a game shows she cares about him just as deeply. It was great to have both Gavin and Stella prioritize college and continuing their education, definitely a positive attitude and not just getting by.

Engaging, charming story. Sweet college romance with all the insecurities, inexperience, OTT college behaviour and angst, typical of students who are barely out of their puberty. The story is about Stella, the well-off, rebellious daughter of the college dean and Gavin, an impoverished hockey player on full scholarship, After a lengthy period of doubt, if they should or shouldn't let their connection progress from lab. partners to something more meaningful, they eventually realise that their brains short-circuit near each other, and they give in to their basic instincts. The author had created two nice, likeable personalities and the other characters had also been well described, fitting with the events. Their story is actually believable and their interaction is heartwarming. The author's use of language and vocabulary fits well with the storyline and the momentum and tension points were well placed within the story. I found the dean's sudden change of stance unrealistic but it allowed for a HEA, which is always nice at the end of a romantic relationship. I am happy to recommend this easy-read book to all who like to read about emotional awakening in young people.
I am looking forward to reading Justin's story.

Overall, this book is a fluffy fun romance read. If you enjoyed books like Briar U or Off Campus, this is the new series for you.

Gavin and Stella have this insane chemistry and can't seem to stay away, even if they have every reason to.

This book is very fast paced, and due to the short length lacks development with plot and characters. It is a great intro to the series though.

*SPOILERS*

There were a few issues I had with the book. There is a scene in the beginning where Gavins POV he kind of has some negative things to say about women wearing too much makeup and going to parties, and then later talks about how his mom raised him to respect women. It probably wasn't an intentional thing, but I felt like there was a bit of negativity surrounding other women to make Stella seem more special.

It was very fast paced and reminded me of the kind of relationships I had in college. Brash decisions, quick I love yous, and everything feels do or die. The author did a great job of capturing being 19 and in college.

Also Stellas dad is a big ole dickhead, but growth!

Play The Game is sadly a mediocre Hockey Romance. I really was hoping for more.

Gavin is trying to keep focused on the game. He's head down, studies, real-life, hockey, hockey, and more hockey.

On the other side of the story is Stella. Stella is a rich and entitled party girl. Her dad has given her an ultimatum, she flies straight, or her lifestyle will be vastly different when her wings get clipped.

The two are attracted together like peanut butter and jelly but not as tasty. While number twenty-one (Gavin's jersey number) sounds like he could be a prize, the writing is clunky and underdeveloped. This unfortunate lack of refinement makes the story read at a less than satisfying level--still, the content of the story isn't bad. It's a Sports Romance in the same vein as Elle Kennedy or Xavier Neal--not as well portrayed.

At the end of the day, Emma Tharp isn't someone I'm likely to try reading again. I didn't enjoy the style. I do, however, think that some die-hard Hockey Romance fans will love this book. I recommend it to them.

I have never signed up for an ARC read so quickly and then life happened and I have only just found the time to read again.
And I am so happy I decided to read this story, Play the Game stopped an upcoming reading slump in its tracks.

Possible Spoilers.

I have always been obsessed with hockey and with college life and this book did not disappoint on either front.
I don't know if I would call this an enemies to lovers, more like a misunderstanding turned into lovers, turns misunderstanding turned loved again.

Emma Tharp has created a fascinating and in-depth world with realistic and grounded characters, the world is engaging and expansive and the side characters are as endearing and intriguing as the main two romantic characters.
The love story is endearing and whilst there are challenges along the way, the manner in which the characters approach these challenges show the strength of the willpower and their determination.

I am very much looking forward to reading more from Emma Tharp

Stella, 19, goes to the college where her dad is the dean and he threatens to pull his financial support if she doesn’t get all A’s. Gavin is on a hockey scholarship, works hard, and is a good student as well as playing on the hockey team. They meet at a party after Stella had too much to drink and embarrassed herself and the next day if d out they will be working closely together as biology lab partners. They are attracted to each other but she thinks he hooked up with her sorority sister so she doesn’t want to become involved with him. They talk and agree that neither needs the distraction of a relationship. Will they finally talk over their situation and act on their attraction or will outside forces keep them apart?

I loved this story where 2 young, dedicated college students develop feelings for each other and have to decide if the distractions of family, hockey, and school will keep them from connecting. They had obstacles to overcome before they could find happiness.

This was a sweet book. I would definitely recommend it for an “in between” read when you need something light and fluffy that you can read in an afternoon while you’re in a book hangover from a heavy series.

Gavin was a super sweet male lead. I’m a sucker for smart athletes, and hockey players, so he was a home run. Stella was your “not so average rich girl” stereotype, but I liked her as well. I enjoyed seeing her stand up to her overbearing father. I always love reading those scenes.

They came together pretty quickly which isn’t really my preferred pairing in books. I enjoy tension between romantic leads, and this book didn’t really have that. Gavin changed his tune quickly from “oh she’s a rich sorority girl” to “oh I can’t get her out of my head and I want to kiss her” and that kind of turned me off initially. They were cute together though, so by the end I got over it.

I think the sorority sister Lexi was underutilized as a plot device. If it was left as the “almost hookup” in the beginning, that would have been fine, but when she showed up again I expected her to create problems for the leads. When that didn’t happen I was kind of left wondering why she was even mentioned again other than to show Gavin was a good guy.

Overall it was a short, sweet read.

Received as an ARC and leaving my honest review. I wasn't so into the story when I started as I just couldn't connect with the characters who I felt were so immature and wishy washy (especially Stella). Until I remembered the genre is out of high school into college age then their behaviour/ immaturity started to make sense and became more acceptable!

As with this genre, the angst is expected and it was a pretty easy read. Although I thought the issue with Stella's father, who's the Dean was resolved really quickly and I'm surprised no complains were made for 'abuse' of power. Would have liked a bit more story to see how things work out a few months down the road, as the resolution of issue and conclusion felt a little rushed and their being a couple still felt too new and incomplete to me. Noted also the last name seems to have been changed from Evans to Chambers? But if you're looking for an easy and quick read in the college-age genre, this works.

This was such a sweet and cute romance story. I was in the middle of an intense fantasy series and needed to take a break and regroup, and this definitely did it.

I would categorize this story as what I call a pallet cleanser, which simply is a one book story that gives you smiles and leaves you with their happy ending. Play The Game was just that. It’s a quick read, it was fun, the hockey aspect was written in a way that it’s still prevalent but not overwhelming.

One thing I really enjoyed is how Gavin is written. He’s not the typical “sport bro” with the mentality of just winning and women. He’s for depth, integrity, heart, and leaves you wanting to find your own Gavin in real life.

I do think the ending was a bit rushed, personally I would’ve liked to see Stella confronting her father at the end, but not having it doesn’t take away from feeling like the story was wrapped up and seeing their happy end.

Gavin and Stella's Story . . .

The theme running through this story seems to be impossible odds to be overcome. Gavin did not have an easy life and has worked hard for everything he had gained. He is attending Boston College on a hockey and academic scholarship. He wants no distractions in his life because he would lose everything.

Stella, at first glance, seems to have had everything she needs in life. Her parents were wealthy, her family was known in high society. Her dad was the Dean at Boston College. But he is a controlling person and has threatened to end his financial support if Stella fails to get straight A’s. So the pressure is on to perform perfectly. She likewise cannot afford distractions with this threat hanging over her.

Regardless, when the two of them are thrown together as biology lab partners, and the heart gets involved, It won’t be easy for Stella or Gavin, either to ignore each other or to give in to their attraction. What will they choose for themselves? And what are they willing to give up to make it work?

This is the first book I have read from this author but it won’t be the last. I could not put this book down. Thought I would start the book (it was after 11pm) and then finish it later…boyfriend made a joke and said I’d read at least half before going to bed…joke was on him I finished it first.

Gavin and Stella’s love story was just perfect. It was a fast paced hockey romance that could almost fall into being forbidden because of her father. Both of their pasts are relatable and pulls at your heartstrings. Gavin’s even more so when he isn’t being the alpha tough guy and showing off his vulnerable side for only Stella to see.

Definitely want more from this author, and will be checking out more of her books. Also I just have to give a shout-out to the author Emma for allowing to be an ARC reader for her and giving me the chance to fall in love with this book.

Thank you to Booksprout and the author, Emma Tharp, for providing a copy of Play the Game (Golden Boys Hockey book 1). I have reviewed honestly.

Play the Game features, but is not limited to, the following themes:
○ College
○ New adult
○ Forbidden Romance
○ Overbearing father figure
○ Sports romance
○ Contemporary

My overall rating for Play the Game is…

4 Stars!

Play the Game was a quick, swoon worthy and steamy read. The relationship between the two MCs was intense and picturesque. I loved Gavin, the big and broody sports scholarship boy. Unfortunately, I didn't love Stella as much as I would have liked to, but she had some redeeming qualities. The story was well written, though some lines felt repetitive. The ending was also a little too cheesy for my tastes. Overall, an enjoyable and sexy tale of college love. Tharp is definitely a contemporary romance author to look out for.

First off let me just say I need to read more hockey romance! I loved how detailed the hockey scenes were. The beginning of the book was fantastic. The author did an amazing job of setting up the two main characters and giving them depth and a little back story. The sexy scenes were hot! And the chemistry between the main characters was magnetic. This is the couple you just know will be together forever.

However I was left wanting with the middle part of the book and sections of the ending. I felt there could be a little more detail involved with the conflict of the father and the resolution of the HEA.(I could be biased since my favorite part of any book is the conflict and the resolution.)

I am giving this review 4 stars simply because it was a very sweet romantic story with a HEA and I will be watching for the second book to see what happens next.

This is book one in the Golden Boys Hockey series. The series starts off with an unlikely match of Gavin and Stella. Gavin is attending Boston College on a full hockey scholarship, he is determined to focus on hockey and his studies, no distractions. Stella is.atranding Boston College with the weight of the world on her shoulders as her Dad is the dean and she needs to be perfect or at least appear that way. When Gavin and Stella first meet, sparks fly but it is awkward. Being Bio Lab partners give both of them a chance to tell their side of their stories and get to know one another. Life is nothing but risks but ones focus and heart are two of the biggest. I enjoyed reading the story and getting familiar with this new world at Boston College and its intesting characters that I have been introduced to. I look forward to getting to know them and reading their HEA stories. Enjoy!

Gavin is most certainly not the stereotypical jock. He's a great player on a hockey scholarship, but he's also focused more on good grades than a great social life. Stella is hardworking and studious, and so attracted to #21. Her family leaves something to be desired - Dad, the dean, is bossy and overbearing; Mom is a Stepford wife; and Stella's sister is apparently the perfect daughter. Gavin and Stella have misconceptions about each other that turn out to be completely false. This is the first book in a new series, and I loved it! I'm a huge fan of the author's previous hockey series, and was excited to see her return to sports. I enjoyed seeing the main characters grow and change as they begin to admit to their attraction to each other. I'm intrigued with Gavin's friend, Justin, and hope to see his story soon. This was a decent hockey romance. It took me a little longer than normal to read this because it didn’t keep my interest like I thought it would. It was a bit predictable considering who her dad was and how her ex boyfriend acted compared to Gavin.
Stella was a good character but was in a tough spot with her parents especially her father. He was the dean of Boston college which is where Stella and Gavin went. Gavin was a hockey player that needed to keep his head in the game since he was on a scholarship. He didn’t need distractions but Stella turned into one really quick.
I felt like things moved kinda fast in this story. Gavin didn’t need any distractions and then he almost immediately falls for Stella. Which means he has to deal with her father and how he feels about the relationship.
I liked the chemistry these two had and how Stella was able to finally stand up to her father. Good character development throughout this story.

I read this entire book in one sitting and I simply couldn't put it down! It has everything you could want from a book based around a college environment - a smart, brooding, hockey player with a plan and a sassy, determined sorority girl who is determined to live her own life without her overbearing father. Gavin and Stella are starstruck with each other from the moment they meet and it seems as though they are magnets, being drawn to one another. The connection between these two characters is electric and it unlocks something in each of them.
My only real issue is that it seemed a little rushed, especially in the later half of the book, and I wish it was longer so it wouldn't feel that way.
Overall, a good and easy read to fill your day!

An engaging story with a complete HEA

I enjoyed reading this book, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
It felt familiar in that this trope and backstory I’ve seen covered before a few times and this book just didn’t bring anything different to it really.

There were lots of parts of the book that I felt were only part developed such as Stella’s parents relationship, her relationship with her sister and even that with her best friend. Similarly even though Justin will pop up in the next book, and his “issues” were covered in this book, his friendship with Gavin was quite superficial.

Despite this the book was well written and was engaging to the end

I received an ARC from Booksprout in return for an honest review

This was an enjoyable read and I enjoyed the author's writing.
Stella and Gavin are the MCs of this novel. Stella is the daughter of the dean and Gavin is the star of the hockey team. Last year Stella didn't do well at school and this year Daddy lays down the ultimatum of straight A's or we cut you off. Gavin is on a scholarship for hockey and he needs to maintain his GPA or lose his scholarship. When the eventually meet, it is awkward and uncomfortable. The next time they meet is in class and your table partner is your lab partner for the year and yes, you guessed it, they are table partners. Soon they are hot for each other but won't admit it then things happen and it's on.

4.5 Stars!
This was a really good read. It was well written and had a great storyline.
Stella was such a great character. I loved that she recognized her dad for what he was and stood up to him when it was necessary.
Gavin was hard to get a read on at first. Thankfully, the story is told in dual POV which made it easier to understand Gavin and why he did and said the things he did. It wasn’t long before I was rooting for him and Stella.
I almost wish that there was an exchange between Stella and Lexi about Lexi’s lies. I also feel like the Dean got off too easily. I really liked Justin in this book and really want to see what comes next for him!

Play The Game is a romance book about Gavin and Stella. While I love the idea of the story as a whole, I didn't fall in love with the book. There were moments where I felt what was happening just didn't fully fit. It's possible there were just too many holes in the story for me to feel connected to the events happening that I was questioning. Maybe if the story was expanded I would fall in love with it but as it stands it's a decent read but not something I would pick up again.
There were a few typos and one spot where the format was off just slightly, not sure if they fixed those things before the release but overall the formatting, grammar, and punctuation was great!

Could not put this novel down! Enjoyed reading it so much; I had to find out how it concluded. The storyline was amazing. It is about a college student, named Stella, who is a sophomore at Boston College. She meets the handsome college hockey player named Gavin at a sorority party who is also attending the same university. They do not hit off right away, yet they do have an attraction for one another. Coincidentally, they end up forced to work as partners in the Biology lab course. What I reveled in most about this novel was that it was not an immediate “let's go for it” moment when they meet, but rather something better. Plus, there is tension that comes between the two that makes it an exciting read.

4-stars for Play the Game

Their chemistry is off the charts but with so much on the line and outside influences working against them will Gavin and Stella every find happiness with each other? I enjoyed the book but would have preferred the book be a bit longer for a HEA instead of a HFN. Would have loved to see if Gavin reached his dream of making the pros and to find out if Gavin and Stella end up making it to the alter, still would recommend reading especially if your looking for a quick, fun read.
Even though I did receive an advanced review copy of this book, I also purchased the book/read with Kindle Unlimited and am voluntarily leaving my own unsolicited opinion with my voluntary review.
