This book is not for the faint of heart. It is full of violence, anger, paranoia, betrayal, and multiple bloody, brutal murders. Be warned (or enticed, depending on your taste in literature)! Ryan, son; Dan, father; Ashley, mother start a normal day. Then the nightmare starts with suspicion and paranoia: An unknown caller tells Dan he must shoot his wife or else his son will be killed by the caller. From here the tension mounts inexorably as Dan is faced with horrible choices. During his frantic efforts to find out what's going on, he makes worse and worse decisions. The book proceeds inexorably at a frantic pace, with a crescendo in action and violence to the final revelation of the perpetrator in a shocking, unexpected surprise.
I really liked the idea for this story but about halfway I started skipping pages. Not because I didn’t like the story, but rather the gratuitous violence (and the descriptions of) that was too much for me. While I have read other books by Mr. Mackay that had this same level of graphic descriptions, I was hoping this one would be more story than gore. If you like that kind of thing, you will enjoy this. I received a free copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
A true crime mystery in all it’s gore and glory. Nothing was spared, the storyline was somewhat believable, yet you knew it wasn’t. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. They mystery kept you guessing throughout. Full of action and bloody gore and violence, it all just added to the excitement of the story. The ending is nothing like you would think it would be and the bad guy or guys is a total surprise with an ending like you wouldn’t believe. This book was totally awesome!
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
That amazing face pace couldn't put the book down. every twist and turn Dan has to make impossible choices. the unknown caller is the most amazing sick twisted villain I ever read. he has the comic but evil build. this needs to be a Netflix series ASAP I think I great actress to play the villain Unknown Call.
Excellent book. I was kept guessing until the very last. Never suspected who "the Caller" really was or that it was that well planned from the beginning. You've outdone yourself, Andrew. Can't wait to read more like it. Bravo!
Don't start reading this when you go to bed. You'll still be reading it at 4am instead of sleeping. MacKay grabs you by the throat with the first page and doesn't let you go until someone is dead. Wel done sir!
There's no 'there' there. From the melodramatic to the absurd to the blatantly ridiculous, with frequent forays into stupid.. Anything related to firearms or driving must have been learned from bad video games in mama's basement
I really enjoyed this suspenseful story. The non-stop action and realistic dialogue kept me turning the pages. I thought I knew who was behind the mask, but I was stunned. I would highly recommend it.
Couldn't put the book down, thrilling from first page to last, such a breath of fresh air,for some reason I find myself liking Nathan he could made a fine assassin 😍
This was a very fast read for me. Once I got started I couldn’t put it down. At one point I figured out who was behind it towards the end but I definitely didn’t see the twist at the end coming.
