Pike Logan #16

End of Days

Rate this book
Pike Logan must stop a deranged killer hell-bent on igniting an international conflagration in this explosive, action-packed thriller from New York Times bestselling author and former special forces officer, Brad Taylor.

When a paragliding trip over the picturesque mountains of Switzerland results in the brutal murder of the former head of Israeli intelligence, Mossad brings in terrorist hunters Aaron and Shoshana to investigate. But they'll need help to find out who was behind the attack and what they're planning next. Luckily, Aaron and Shoshana know exactly who to call.

Taskforce operators Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill have been trapped in Charleston, South Carolina during COVID-19, so when Aaron and Shoshana show up on their doorstep with Israeli passports and a new mission, they jump at the chance to assist their friends. Some suspect that Keta'ib Hezbollah, an Iranian-funded militia group operating in Iraq, might be responsible for the "accidental" deaths of key members of the American and Israeli governments. But something isn't adding up, and Pike, Jennifer, and the two Mossad operators are determined to find the real assassins before more people are cut down.

As they stumble upon the trail of a serial killer loose on the streets of Rome connected to the deaths and follow evidence leading to the exalted Knights of Malta, they must wade deep into the contentious religious and political fractures of Israel and the greater Middle East. It's a dangerous world where fanatics and legitimate organizations exist side by side, and it's up to the Taskforce to determine who is really pulling the strings. What they find could have disastrous consequences not only for them, but for the entire world...

Sorry friends, not a fan of this one. 🤷‍♀️Do check other reviews because most people enjoyed this book with a 4.33 rating among friends.

End of Days revolves around religious fanatics and the Second Coming of Christ. The villains who also go by Ninja Turtles' code names started picking off prominent government figures. Israeli Mossad duo Aaron and Shoshana arrived in Charleston to meet Pike and Jennifer for a personal matter and to share intelligence. They're in dire need of help. With COVID-19, travel restrictions and quarantine are added obstacles in the mission plan.

This series always include a lot of traveling and action and that's also the case here. Character development and seeing "old friends" are probably the best part for me. End of Days felt long. It touches on topics like the Book of Revelation and the Third Temple.

This series gets more jumbled and less exciting as it goes on. It's hard to marry a wedding with a middle east terrorist group as this story unsuccessfully proves. 4 of 10 stars

I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway. My first Brad Taylor book. Didn’t know I had won it until I got it in the mail. It is a paper back “Advance Readers Edition (Not for Sale). The first few chapters are really confusing with a lot of characters representing different good (Israeli Mossad and American Taskforce) and bad endeavors (Iranian Hezbollah and a deep underground outfit called The Turtles with the Knights of Malta, a Catholic humanitarian organization dating back hundred of years. Even the Italian Police get in on the dig.

I could hardly put it down. Pike Logan, the main character, is the real deal, and so are the American Taskforce and Israeli allies (Aaron & Shoshana). The story takes place in the mist of Covid-19. A real action packed thriller. America's President Hannister in the book has more balls than Biden and his group of incompetent military advisors, especially Milley. My favorite quote from the book is "Politics have always been the death of people." Great read.

I love this series and reading about Pike and Jennifer for the 16th time feels like visiting old friends. I think the character development is the strongest part of this series. Storywise, this is not the best book in the series but it's still a very thrilling and action-packed book as you can expect from Brad Taylor. It's well-written with a lot of humor in the dialogue. If you like thrillers then I highly recommend this book.

Thanks to the author, Harper Colllins and Edelweiss for the privilege of reviewing an advanced copy of End of Days.

An all too realistic story that combines theology, history and Middle Eastern politics with crazy bad guys and bursts of violent action. This is a must read that will help you properly kick off 2022 in style.

In the 16th installment starring Pike Logan, a group sets out to try and force the U.S. and Israel into a war in the Middle East to be the catalyst to The 2nd Coming of Christ depicted in the book of Revelations.

An overwhelming majority of thrillers involving terrorism the last 20 years have featured Islamic extremists. We often forget other religions have extremists and Taylor deftly reminds us Islam doesn't have a monopoly on crazy. Compared to other Logan books, End of Days is light on the action. By a lot. Taylor took a risk and it paid off brilliantly. I'm sure the deviation caused him a few sleepless nights.

The best decision of Taylor's writing career has to be creating the Israeli team. Because of it, he has an almost endless supply of storylines. The best of the group is Shoshana, who is an enigma wrapped in an enigma. The juxtaposition between the fearless apex predator with the emotional maturity of teenager is endlessly fascinating. She just wants to be loved like everyone, yet she's like no one else.

Some how, Taylor continues to improve as a writer and has cemented his self as one of the best of the best.

My sincere thanks to Brad Taylor, William Morrow and Custom House, and Edelweiss for the privilege of reviewing an advanced copy of End of Days.

Pike Logan is back with his friends and once again he has to work around the oversight commitee, but this time Wolfe will help them. End of Days by Brad Taylor is one of the better ones in this series and the character development is going great. This time it's his Isralian friends that needs help. We also have to deal with a great character in an Italian police officer. I prefer the early books in the series but Taylor is a master at describing places around the world, it could be because of all his travel and research. He always has a good flow in his writing. If you have missed his books I recommend that you amend this by start reading them at once. I must thank @this_is_edelweiss @harpercollins and @williammorrowbooks for giving me this advance copy and @bradtaylorbooks for writing this stuff.

I won this book through Goodreads and like always, Brad Taylor did not disappoint. The action starts when a former Israeli Head of Intelligence is supposedly killed in an accident. Then a U.S. Ambassador is killed with threats of more coming. As always, they turn to Pike Logan and his team plus two Israeli operatives to get to the bottom of this and prevent any more killings. An Iranian group has claimed responsibility but there's something else going on. They discover it's a deranged serial killer who is trying to bring on Armageddon and fulfill Bible prophecies and thereby erase the entire Islamic religion. The killer is a member of the Knights of Malta and he plays on the religious and political split between Israel and the rest of the Middle East. The U.S. is desperate to stop him before he causes another World War III.

Brad Taylor has been one of my favorite thriller authors of all time and I was delighted to receive an ARC of his latest, END OF DAYS, a reference to the apocalypse found in the Bible. Brad Taylor has added a new twist to the conflict in the Middle East. He explores a new facet added to the battlefield, an alternate religion.

Taylor always delivers excellent character development within all his novels, not only of the protagonist, but secondary characters too. END OF DAYS is no different. It’s one of the chief features of his writings. You always know the scorecard of players. First up to bat is Aaron and Shoshana, our favorite Israeli Mossad agents who have been called in to investigate the grizzly murder of her mentor, the former head of Mossad. They are in need of a team to back them up in tight situations so they pay a visit to Charleston, SC to the wedding rehearsal of Pike Logan and his bride,Jennifer Cahill. They are in need of a team and talk both into assisting, accompanied by the SEAL posse of Knuckles and Brett. Commander of the Project Prometheus Taskforce, George Wolffe, is not happy about his team assisting the Mossad team, especially using Israeli passports.

I’ve not seen the introduction of Christian/Catholic, agendas into the Middle East decision-making process before in thriller novels. And Taylor has come up with one hell of a twist. A rabidly devout Catholic, known as Garrett, who served in the US Army Special Forces in the Bosnia-Croatia conflict has set into motion events to achieve, in his mind, the fulfillment of Biblical prophecies - the creation of the Third Jewish Temple in Jerusalem, and the subsequent Second Coming of Jesus Christ. How? By instigating a war between Israel and Iran with the US pulled into it. With the take over/shut down of Israeli religious sites, the Jews move into place to establishing the Third Temple of the Jewish religion in Jerusalem, thus fulfilling the prophecy through Armageddon. Does Meggido ring a bell?.

This startling storyline, has real plausible possibilities. Allow me to preface, I have 12 years of Catholic schooling, with prior knowledge of the role the Templar Knights and the Knights of Malta have played in the Middle East. And, I have met Catholics with this kind of aggressive bent who seek the elimination of Islamics. Opus Dei comes to mind. Mature individuals will recall there was a certain spy within the US intelligence community some 30 years ago,who was indeed an active member of the Opus Dei, DC chapter, who proved to be the most subversive and most destructive spy in US intelligence history. His crime? selling intell/trade secrets to the Israelis. After serving some 25 years in prison, he was granted parole and I read speculation he may have moved to Israel. As long as there are religious zealots who can be persuaded to fulfill biblical prophecy, this plot line becomes a real possibility.

I tweaked my curiosity pondering this theme so I went to YouTube to investigate on the History Channel segments of CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD with some three or four segments that dealt with Jerusalem (S2E1) at the time of the Templars and the role that the Knights of Malta, the hospitallers, played as the tenders of the sick in Accra where the last stand and the Templar fortress stood. There are also segments discussing the role of Meggido and the Jewish Essenes last stand against the Romans. These are the source of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the ancient facilities at Qumran. Apocalyptic history (JERUSALEM, PROPHECIES FROM BELOW S2E8)is discussed too if you would like greater familiarity. It discusses in detail the history and role of Meggido in Judaic history from roughly 1000BC to the present. You can view the massive underground cave from where the stones for the First and Second Temple at Temple Mount were cut and the huge labyrinth system the Templars developed leading to outside the city of Jerusalem. What capture my attention was that the chroniclers of these videos were recognized and became the first non-Islamics from the West given official access INSIDE the ancient Islamic Dome of the Rock at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem to view the rock from whence Mohammad rose to heaven. These videos confirmed the knowledge and background related by Brad Taylor in the END OF DAYS. It reaffirms the knowledge I gleaned years ago from my Irish Catholic background.

Our man Garrett, call sign Splinter, and sometimes the Eunuch, is not just a trained assassin, with special forces training skills, he is a zealot and a serial killer with a penchant for prostitutes. Taylor has created the perfect megalomaniac, a true psychopath hellbent on a religious mission to meet, in REALITY, The Second Coming of Jesus Christ. He is now a living eunuch courtesy of being captured and tortured by Islamic foes and is determined to see the erasure of Islamics from the face of the Earth. What a more perfect position to do so than sitting in the Templar Knights of Malta headquarters in Rome, Vatican Central. After all, most humanitarian missions pursued by Christians are generated out of the Vatican, with the Knights of Malta providing the protective end of this humanitarian aid. This is the chief function and cover story of Garrett and his equally fanatical “posse” dubbed The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, carrying the same call sign names as the characters in the childhood cartoon from decades earlier. Only these men, Croatian Special Forces who formerly served with him in Bosnia, are still at war against Islam and basically serve as mercenaries/bodyguards for missions undertaken on behalf of the Holy See, otherwise known as The Vatican. Under this guise, and known as The Turtles, they have passports to travel the world and seek vengeance on Islamic and Israelis alike. An audacious plan is set into motion.

The tail of Israel is twisted through the assassinations of the former head of Mossad, living in Zurich, and the chief diplomat head of the European Protective Services of Israel’s Shin Bet, the protective division of the homeland. Their subtle message? Who protects the homeland when top security agents of Israel can’t protect themselves? To provoke the Americans next is the killing of the US ambassador to the Holy See and the attempted kidnapping attack on the commander of the Fifth Fleet, headquartered in Bahrain. And, a US diplomat is thrown off a hotel balcony to her death in Rome. The linkage all points to Keta’ib Hezbollah, an Iraqi Iran-backed militia, with tentacles throughout the Middle East and Europe.

From Charleston,SC, to Zurich, Paris, Rome, Bahrain, and Syria, the team’s world travels, while unraveling this tale of assassination and mayhem, lead to Jerusalem and the final showdown at Meggido and at the Dome of the Rock . Few write as mesmerizing and enthralling a book than Brad Taylor. This one carries its fair share of mutilated bodies, firefights, bombings, and narrow escapes with a spectacular explosive ending. It wouldn’t be a Brad Taylor book without Shoshana doing her “Carrie” thing or Koko scaling a hotel building. The storyline moves at a constant changing pace, body to body, city to city, leaving clues as to what Garrett and his Ninjas are up to.

END OF DAYS ranks up there as one of Taylor’s best productions. Plan on sufficient time to read as this is one you aren’t putting down. It gives the reader a firm understanding of the current players in the geopolitics of the Middle East. It presents an ingenious and insidious plot guaranteed to delight thriller readers. It firmly establishes the personalities of all characters in play, even within the Taskforce and titillates the wanderlust of readers who enjoy the tidbits dropped about the locales. I guarantee thriller readers will love this book. I rate END OF DAYS a BIG 5*! Well done, Brad Taylor! Can’t wait to see where this continuing saga goes next!

Pike and Jennifer are about to get married. At the rehearsal dinner, Shoshana and Aaron asks for their help. Someone is killing Israeli VIPs. Evidence seems to indicate Iraq is behind it, but not everyone is convinced. They have to find the truth before a war starts.

Taylor read a lot of Dan Brown, I think.

ebook ARC Review - Brad Taylor’s “End of Days” is the sixteenth thriller in the Pike Logan series. Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill team up with Israeli Mossad friends Aaron and Shoshana to try and stop terrorists from bringing on ‘Armageddon’ between the Israelis and the rest of the Middle East. A deranged terrorist leader and his group try to cause a world war by creating the ‘end of days’ according to the Bible prophecy in the Book of Revelations. An overwhelming majority of thrillers involving terrorism have featured Islamic extremists and Taylor reminds us in this exciting story that this radical villain does have a monopoly on ‘crazy’. Nevertheless, the plot, storyline and character development were brilliant! One of the best characters Taylor has created in the series is the Israeli Mossad team of Aaron and Shoshana. Because of them, Taylor has developed an almost endless supply of storylines when they join with the Taskforce. Shoshana’s character is mystical, she is a puzzle wrapped in an enigma. The contrast between the fearless apex predator with the emotional maturity of a teenager is endlessly fascinating. She just wants to be loved like everyone else, yet she's like no one else. I absolutely love her character and the humorous bantering between she and Pike. Although End of Days was lighter on the action and more on the history and politics than previous Pike Logan novels, the story was one of Taylor’s most suspenseful and well thought out narratives. It was a captivating geopolitical tale that was all too realistic and very well researched. It's well-written with a lot of well-placed humor and some serious history lessons on Middle East politics. Taylor continues to cement his self as one of the best in the thriller genre. End of Days was a good mix of Middle East politics, religion with some sufficient action. Great read to start 2022! Thank you Netgalley and publisher William Morrow & Company for the ebook ‘Advance Reader’s Copy’ (ARC).

Let me start off by saying Brad Taylor is one of, if not currently one of my favorite authors. I look forward to each of his current and non-read past books--but this one was a complete disaster from beginning to my abrupt end with a deluge of characters, foreign names, religeous fanatics, confusing, confusing!
I obtained the book with great anticipation from the local library where today (after approx 120plus pages) I am returning~not finished! Just was not my cup of tea and too many other books on my "to read list" to divulge in.
Perhaps the current "thriller" category is deluged with too many good writers/books per say?

I usually can read a book in a day or two but after a week of trying to finish I held my nose and struggled to the end what a waste of time do we really need a another secret catholic organization out to destroy the world this premise is getting very old I have only read a few of this series and every time I say never again if I didn't get free wouldn't have tried at all please give this book a pass and the series as a whole and I didn't even get started on what a misogynist series this is.

A relatively weak story for Brad Taylor. Pike and friends take on an extremist Catholic group of religious nut jobs seeking to obliterate Islam and bring about Armageddon and the "2nd coming" of Christ. Much of the first 300 pages is a slog. It picks up after that. I've read all of the Pike Logan books and this is, IMO, probably the weakest. Most get 5 stars from me. This one I rate 4, but a pretty weak 4.
This can be read as a stand-alone.

I'd give this book a 3.5 out of 5. Not my favorite Pike Logan thriller but I blame that on a few things. 1. Covid interrupting Brad's usually writing style of visiting places. 2. I'm getting married this year so my usual pace of reading has been really slowed down. Took me practically 2 months to finish this book. Maybe that helped effected the rating alittle.

Couple gripes I had was 1 Shoshana was really annoying and too much this novel. Again maybe its me, but every scene with Shoshana I was annoyed with and she is one of my favorite characters. 2. Similar plot of the last book American Traitor with the end goal being all out War. Before it was Taiwan and China and this one being Israel and Iran.

The best things about this novel I will say is Knuckles and Brett. Those two are so funny together and the ending story was hilarious.

Needless to say I'm excited for the next one as Covid restrictions have eased up. I do want to see more from Jennifer as I feel she hasn't had a defining moment in awhile. And Veep, why is he always babysitting and not out kicking butt. Lets get Veep in the action some!

Well I'm finally caught up on the Pike Logan series which is nice, but even though I liked being back with the crew this has to be one of the weaker books. I appreciate Taylor trying to keep it fresh, but this has the series least plausible villains and plot. It made the whole thing a little convoluted and harder to get invested in. It felt like trying to do a budget Da Vinci Code wrapped in a Pike Logan book. That said the pacing and action were still enjoyable.

Another great contribution, the 16th, to the Pike Logan/Jenifer Cahill "Taskforce" series...Just before Pike and Jennifer's wedding, Israeli assassins, Aaron and Shoshana, beg for Pike, Jennifer and the Taskforce’s help to head off a "false flag" attempt to ignite WWIII...Other than a kind of anti-religion angle, it a really fun, action-packed read!

I have not read to many books that have incorporated the Covid 19 into the plot but this one did and I think it added a bit of reality to it. Pike Logan and his tribe of secret agent style missionaries are brought into a Mossad seeking mission. Several deaths have occurred that could lead to an Iran attack on Israel and the United States. Aaron and Shoshana have asked Pike and Jennifer to help find who is behind these murders before World War 3 breaks out. It is a mission that needs to be done delicately and without the media breaking the story. The clues lead them to Rome where the clues become more clear when they reveal end of days of Armeggdaon.

I have only read several of the Pike Logan books and each one you go deeper into the mind of Pike, Jennifer and Shoshana. Shoshana is a lose canon that is intriguing. She has a 6th sense that is well with each adventure I have had the pleasure of being on. Pike and Shoshana are much alike but different. They both have a vulnerability that adds to the character development and plot line. Jennifer is the one that balances them both and gives them security or a sense of sanity in the insane action that is all round. The story line is biblical that it refers to the end of days in Revelation. It is an interesting take from other fictional plots and without giving anything away, it added more suspense and reality in today's world. There is alot of moving parts as well. The investigation of murdered women in Rome and the investigator is one. Those that are bringing the end of the days have their own story that adds to the craziness .

A real edge of your seat thriller!

A special thank you to William Morrow and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

The sixteenth entry in Brad Taylor's Pike Logan series, End of Days, has an unusual enemy: ultra-radical Catholics who have embedded themselves within the Knights of Malta, who have co-opted a Shia terrorist group to lash out at several Israeli targets. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Taskforce has been put on stand down, but that doesn't stop Shoshana and Aaron (the former Mossad assassins and mainstays of the series) from asking Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill in assisting them in unraveling the puppet masters. They quickly unravel a conspiracy with Biblical implications and battle in an attempt to bring the conspiracy to a halt.

My only complaint about the novel is that I wish we would have received additional background on the primary antagonist. He has a very compelling backstory, but there's still much we don't know about him after the conclusion of the novel.

I do applaud Taylor for switching things up. In the previous book, American Traitor, the Taskforce was pitted against the Chinese. This time, the aforementioned rogue elements of the Knights of Malta both provide an education on the organization and help to switch things up in a unique fashion.

As always, Taylor's research, knack for characterization, and penchant for hard-hitting kinetic action shine throughout the book. On the topic of research, I am impressed that he cobbled this plot together based upon research from previous books that didn't make it to the page. That is a fantastic example of adapting to the circumstances presented by the pandemic.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next entry in the series!

Brad Taylor has always been one of my favorite authors due to his finesse and ability to create such an amazing character like Pike Logan. Logan is nothing short of a badass and he is continuously at the forefront of the to-be-read books when they become available. I have also had the pleasure of meeting Brad and his lovely wife Elaine here in Charleston SC, and if you have the opportunity do not pass it up. They are some of the most down to earth people and are extremely fun to be around.

Pike Logan and girlfriend/wife to be Jennifer Cahill, ‘Koko’, are gearing up for a huge day, but are they ready for the End of Days. The wedding she wants, small and informal, with just the closest of friends and family, is here and she’s ready to relax. As they’re preparing for the big day, a small team of religious radicals, not the normal ones, are on the prowl to start World War III. The kind of war that attempts to eradicate an entire group of people.

Shoshana and Aaron, former Mossad, are in Charleston, SC preparing for the Logan/Cahill wedding when they decide to ask for help. Without Taskforce assistance they will be hurting. The team is on the hunt in an Alpha mission to find out why prominent Americans and Israelis are turning up dead. With everything leading towards a Hezbollah linked operation, funded by Iran, the Taskforce begins to work. Pike and the team fight through mysterious killings in Italy and even have to dodge a casual car bomb while on the hunt for the notorious ‘Ninja Turtles’.

The mismatch of Israeli contractors and American shadow figures finally get HQ Taskforce backing to help and find the people responsible for the heinous attacks on civilians leading them through Syria and Israel. Splitting a team up is never a good choice but considering the villains in play, the Taskforce splits as the tension ratchets up while guns, bombs, and God are at nothing but the forefront.

Taylor crafts a modern-day thriller built on biblical prophecies that will have you glued to the pages. It’s not a chest bumping religious novel, it’s the cruel and callous Pike Logan that we have all come to know and love. He’s dangerous, ruthless, and what America needs as he wreaks havoc on bad guys all over the globe. Taylor’s research and imagination are full of action-filled scenes and endless bloodshed. Pike and Koko, along with the rest of the Taskforce, are always ready for a gunfight and this one will not disappoint.

Can’t Get Past

First, we honor and appreciate Mr Taylor’s service to our country. Having read the entire Pike Logan series to this point, I’m sorry to say this may be the weakest of all. Villains named after cartoon characters? And those names used constantly throughout the whole novel? I couldn’t get past that and it took me completely out of the story. At least 100 pages too long (how many times can ice cream be mentioned in one chapter?), and overstuffed with too many threads. Perhaps a better editor could have helped tighten this up.

You have got to hand it to Taylor to keep this series fresh after 16 entries. He might be the best of the writers who have been at it this long. Through the first three quarters, I thought this was going to be one of his best. Unfortunately, he lost track of his pacing and held back the action. Still a worthy effort.

Brad Taylor's series, Pike Logan and his team, once again operate with precision that would seem haphazard to the perfectionist and precise to the haphazard. They definitely enter the fray with only the most basic understanding and as a team, bring their skillsets to bear and dominate the enemy by relying on their intuition and understanding the endgame based on the characteristics of their actions, all the time having to overcome the general skepticism of their leaders, including Wolffe, the Task Force commander. Pike is the tip of the multi-pronged spear leading the US and it's allies into the fight. In this case, their Israeli "friends" Aaron and Shoshana need their help to find who is killing their intelligence assets as Mossad contractors without the full backing of the institution, so they turn to Pike's team for help. And how can they say no? They owe them. Religious zealots are trying to bring about Armageddon or the End of Days as it is known in the Book of Revelations by thrusting Jews, Muslims and Christians into the prophecized last war before the second coming of Christ. This is a very well-written novel with plot twists that are extremely well-constructed. Taylor, once again, tops his last effort.
