Losing sleep over what others think about you? Or can't care less? Happiness in life nonetheless depends on what you think about yourself. Social media has certainly given us individual authorship over how we present ourselves to the world. Susceptible to live by the dictates of 'likes' and 'comments' of others, we network with the world in a carefully filtered image of ourselves. But is it truly our authentic self that we are presenting to the world? Can it cater lasting happiness and honest relationships? In this first volume of Yoga Stories, Gauranga Das takes you on an inner journey to explore your inner self, beyond the hills of expectation, through the valleys of disapprovals and beneath the layers of self-deception. Thus, bringing you closer to the home of your heart, enabling you to open the door and introduce yourself, to finally meet, the real you.
“Stories help us imagine ourselves in characters’ roles and apply the lesson that they are learning in our own lives. It is easier to learn the lesson of ‘being grateful’ in the context of a story rather than from being told to simply ‘be grateful’.” ~ Gauranga Das (excerpt from the book)
The book is a collection of Forty anecdotal stories narrated gently and lovingly. Gauranga Das connects the stories to the wisdom of Bhagavad Gita, inspiring the readers to reflect and ruminate on life.
The chapters are short and precise. The editing of the book absolutely on spot. Once you begin reading, you’d be surprised how easily you’re able to complete it. Always a mark of a good book. 😊
My heartfelt gratitude to HG Gauranga Prabhu who has written a very beautiful book. The most loving part of this book is the way of story-telling in which an introduction is started with an interesting story that creates an imagination which is easily comprehensible by the mind. Then, combine the story with our Vedic literature like Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, Chanakya Neti’s slokas etc. That provide us a significant life lesson , we can learn from it. This shows that our Vedic Education is very authentic and gives us so valuable learning lessons that build up our character, develop our personality, help us to be fearless in dangerous situation, to be emotionally strong in the hardest of the hardest moment of the life. Furthermore, the conclusion part consists of the solution of practical life problems and how to implement in our life. Every people wants Peace, Happiness, Pleasure, Knowledge and becoming Eternal. That’s why humans are experimenting in material world like going to mountains, driving luxurious car, motorcycle, eating at expensive restaurants, purchasing costly gadgets, drinking alcohol, enjoying with women or men, enjoying in bar, pubs, scrolling in smartphones watching YouTube reels etc. day & night and at the end of the life nobody wants to be exhausted. Friends, our desires are permanent and we can never fulfill it through temporary things. We should try to understand that our permanent desires come from SOUL which is eternal and covers by this temporary body ; try to understand that SOUL is a part and parcel of Supreme God, Krsna ; try to understand that Bhagwan, krsna, is our true friend, real proprietor and true enjoyer of everything. By developing spirituality we can contribute postitive to our nature, treat every human equal despite different individuality, help poor people and become Resilient in whatever harsh situation comes into our life.
The book consists of 40 chapters. Each lesson teaches a virtue like humility, detachment, verbal austerity etc. The key values learnt in every chapter is derived from different Yoga texts like The Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam and many more.
The stories will take the readers to their school moral science class. Each quality is meticulously narrated with the help of a story and explained very nicely with the help of shlokas of our Vedic texts. The solution of every problem is same, i.e. , to have devotion in Supreme Personality of Godhead, Shri Krishna.
Although Shrimad Bhavad Gita and Shrimad Bhagavatam have so many lessons for life, this book has picked up some great ones. Conveyed in a concise manner and easy to remember. Can be used as handbook.
Elevating! The pattern is beautifully planned beginning with a story based on particular human quality where one can relate oneself followed by a sloka from the scripts highlighting the significance of that quality and ending with the measures of how to achieve that quality.
Hopefully, some day this book will make it to the list of 10/20/100 must reads of the masses. A beautiful book that blends the learnings from Bhagwat Gita and Chanakya Neeti and attaches these learnings to stories set in the relatable modern world.
