Canadian Firearms Safety Course: Student Handbook

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is designed to apply to the broadest possible spectrum of novice firearm users. Existing firearm safety courses across Canada have a proven track record in the reduction of firearm-related incidents. However, most of these courses have been designed and delivered for firearms use in a specific activity. The CFSC is an introductory firearm safety course intended for all new firearms users.

Individuals who wish to acquire restricted firearms must also pass the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course tests.

A great primer workbook for beginners who are new to firearms. If you are thinking of taking the PAL test remember that there is both a written and practical component, so you'll need a qualified instructor to walk you through how to safely load and unload all of the actions (hinge, pump, lever, bolt, semi-auto) and test you on positions, storage and transport safety. If you are in Halton region I recommend Sherrie Sadauskas and Jason Frye as amazing and patient instructors with years of experience. My only complaint about this book would be the relentless repetition of ACTS/PROVE but they are key acronyms for safety so I suppose if repetition gets you to remember then so be it.

Dull, repetitive, and poorly illustrated, but it’s a firearms handbook published by the RCMP, using the taxpayers’ money, so I didn’t expect it to be riveting reading. On every other page the reader is exhorted to make sure his firearm is unloaded and reminded constantly of the penalties for disobedience. All the info that’s needed to pass the theory test for the Possession and Acquisition License is in this manual, so it’s worth a read if you’re interested in doing so.
In this country, the restrictions on guns are so harsh that ownership of rifles and shotguns is only grudgingly allowed and it’s only a matter of time before it isn’t. Every other type of firearm is restricted (pistols and revolvers, which you can’t buy anymore anyway) or prohibited (everything else). The current so-called government has simply turned gun ownership into a political haymaker.

Great study guide. Very helpful and repeats the most important stuff so it really gets stuck in your brain.
