When Brett gets tagged by a flying disc, launched from the hands of Ultimate Frisbee player Sean, he doesn't expect the mutual attraction to hit just as hard and fast. Sometimes all it takes is a single day to jumpstart an ultimate summer.

This is a contemporary MM Romance with a HFN ending, containing an age gap of nine years, indiscriminate use of the word boy, and judicious use of Ultimate Frisbee terminology.

Ultimate Summer is the third book in the Southern Jersey Shores series. While this short story can be read as a standalone, it does contain characters and cameos from the first two books and would be best enjoyed if read in order.

DNF at 50%

Neither the characters, nor the storyline was engaging. Insta-attraction, a perfectly toned demigod, and a cute boy (emphasized repeatedly that he is a boy...).

I need to start by saying how awesomely clever Alexis is with infusing the lingo from the sports she is writing about into her books. Part of the fun in reading this series has been finding how she had used the lingo throughout it. Love this!!

The story was fun. Sean is playing Ultimate Frisbee with his friends when his disc hits Brett by accident. The attraction is instant and the two decide to spend time together. We get to meet Aaron and Darren from books 1 and 2 (but you do not need to read those books first to get a feel for this book. If you haven't though, you should! Those are great!)

The story is short, so there is not a lot of depth between the characters--they have only known each other for maybe 12 hours, but there is enough to show how attracted they are to each other and how they both hope more will come from it. There is a definite HFN, with the ability to imagine how it could become HEA. More would be very awesome, though, so that I don't have to imagine it. :-)

I was given a copy of this book by the author free in return for an unbiased review.

Brett is hit by a Frisbee thrown by Sean whilst sitting on the beach. Whilst Sean is giving Brett some ice for the injury they chat and Sean asks Brett out for dinner.
I think this had the makings of a good story but really needed to be longer. We get them going to a bar, picking up dinner and then going back to Brett's place.

I am going to admit there were a few things that bothered me.
Brett is 18 and Sean is 23. The 5 years didn't bother me but the fact that the author called Brett 'the teen' and 'the boy' did. I know he was a teen but everytime I read those words, I began to think of Brett as a young teenager and that pulled me out of the story.
Also for a short book, it also ends at 80% with a strangish ending.
Brett is getting a blowjob and at the end he just blurts out that he wants Sean to teach him Ultimate Frisbee. Really, that's what he would be thinking about?
As I've already said this book was too short and left a lot in the air.

(Editor's review)

This is my favourite story of the three stories that make up 'Southern Jersey Shores', and it's a stand-alone story, so no need to read Opening Day or Evading Exodus first. In fact, you could read book 3 and go back to books 1 and 2 later.

I love Sean (maybe because he has an Irish name?) and whilst at times I thought he should know better than to let his lust govern his actions towards Brett (who is 'of age' but young and vulnerable) in the real world he'd likely do just as he did in this story.

A realistic, summery, fun story, with added Frisbee. :)

I honestly surprise that I have never read a book by this author. Where have I been? I love this short. It was a snack bite of a story. It was sweet, short and to the point. It is definitely a snapshot of potential beginning of a greatest love story or bittersweet hookup. There were hints of where the story could be expanded. I do wish for a expanded story but I'm not holding my breath for one. This may be third book in the Southern Jersey Shores series but it can be read as a standalone but you do get interesting glimpses of the other couples. Overall, I have new author to add to my list.

Brett is enjoying some time on the beach before classes start but he gets hit with a Frisbee. Sean and his friends are playing ultimate Frisbee nearby on the beach. Sean offers to ice Brett’s arm and there is instant attraction between the two. Sean takes Brett back to the sports bar where Sean and his friends hang out. Brett has scars on his face that he’s very self-conscious about. He eventually tells Sean what they are from. The reader is introduced to all of Sean’s other friends, but if you’ve read the previous books in the series, you’ll be well acquainted with them. This is a very short read that can easily be read in one sitting, although this is a standalone. The dynamics between the characters were interesting enough to make me want to read the other books in the series.

Sweet and fun short story.
Brett and Sean have an instant attraction when they meet at the beach, and they just don't let go of each other for the whole day. It was so nice to read their interactions, how they danced around each other, still trying to figure out what to do. Sean was so caring and sweet with Brett.

This series of short stories is very interesting, each one having a theme that is intertwined in the text. It's clever and original!

3.5 STARS

Brett is looking to spend a quiet day reading at the beach when he’s hit by a wayward Frisbee. Pain aside, it may just be the luckiest day of his life because coming towards him to claim the Frisbee is a perfect example of a blond, buff and gorgeous beach god. Brett unexpectedly finds himself wrangled into watching the rest of the game and even asked out to dinner by said beach hottie, aka Sean.

Sean falls madly in…well, not love or lust but somewhere in between from the moment he sees Brett. He’s captivated (would be a good word) by the younger man, who shies away and blushes in such a cute fashion. He’s excited to learn that Brett has recently moved to the area to attend college and he doesn’t waste any time asking the adorable teen out on a date.

Although we don’t go into a lot a lot of depth, because this is a short story, I enjoyed meeting both of the main characters. Sean was fun and easy to like but he had an earnestness about him that made him more than just another stereotype. He was mindful of Brett’s reservations and feelings, even though he was pretty desperate to drag him off to bed as soon as possible. You just felt that Sean was sincerely going to do his best by Brett, and it didn’t matter that it all happened over a twelve(ish?) hour period.

However, Brett was my favourite. When the story started my first impression of Brett was that he was going to be a bit of a “girl”. And I don’t mean that in any sexist way, it’s just that when I read a character that’s all shy and stuttery and needs a big strong man to simply steer them through the day, it always reminds me of the regency m/f I use to read. But I loved that Brett surprised me, then continued to do so throughout the story.

The age gap between the MCs was only really a “thing” because Brett was only eighteen, and actually, other people seemed more concerned with it than either Brett or Sean. One thing though, Sean thought of Brett as “the boy” or “the teen” a couple of times. It wasn’t a lot, but for some reason it really bothered me. I think maybe it just sounds creepy to me if a man is referring to their younger love interest as “the boy”. (Well, unless you’re in a BDSM club I guess.)

You may have noticed in the blurb that Ultimate Summer is part of the Southern Jersey Shores series. It’s story number three but it definitely can be read as a standalone. The presence of Dare & Ace, from the previous books in that series actually seemed a bit redundant however, that’s coming from me, who hasn’t read the other books in the series. I guess if you’re already a fan then you’ll love the glimpse of these two men.

I definitely enjoyed this short story and am seriously considering going back and reading the first two books.

Brett is out on the beach trying to find a nice quiet place to settle down and read when a frisbee beams into his arm.

Sean's the culprit of the frisbee incident. With the offer to provide ice for the wound. Sean gets Brett to follow him to his spot on the beach. But before they even get there Sean's friend, Nick almost ruin it by asking Brett about the scar lines on Brett's face. Sean manages to smooth it over and makes his interest in Brett known.

A bit of a easy carefree short story about two individuals meeting on a beach and hitting it off. Reader's are left with the question about how Brett earned his scars and Sean's interest in Brett besides his physical appearance. There's not a lot of back story and what there is is brief and there's no real implication that Brett and Sean are looking for anything beyond a summer fling.

The brief intro to Aaron, Darren, Jake and Terry didn't really do much for me. Aaron and Darren seem like they may have had an interesting story to share but readers only got a brief glimpse of them and their relationship.

Very cute story of Sean and Brett, the former smacking the latter with a Frisbee as their initial meeting. I did appreciate the idea of Sean being a Frisbee player, that was something different and so very summer. This is part of the Southern Jersey Shore series but works as a stand alone. The story really is just a beginning, as the guys only know each other a day, so it’s more of a maybe HFN. It ends a bit abruptly and I definitely wanted to know the whole story behind the scars.

Sean and Brett's Story . . .

There is not a lot of substance to this story since it’s pretty short. But when Sean is engaging in a game of Ultimate Frisbee with his buddies, the off-course Frisbee ends up accidentally hitting Brett who is reading and relaxing on the beach. When Sean hurries over to check out the damage, the attraction between the two is obvious as they spend time together. After providing ice for the injury, Sean makes sure to ask Brett out to dinner. Will this be the start of a new relationship? Will the age difference matter to them?

Short Summer Read

This brief slice of a possible relationship, between an inexperienced 18 year old college freshman and a twenty-something frisbee player, takes place over the course of an afternoon and evening. They only scratch the surface of getting to know each other and the story leaves it wide open whether there will be a future for them or if this is just a brief summer hookup. It is the story of a first date and leaves the reader hanging, trying to imagine what might come next.

This was sooo good, fun to read! The author is fairly new to me and I've enjoyed all their works so far. Sean is playing Ultimate Frisbee with a group of friends when he accidentally hits Brett with the disc. They have an immediate attraction. This was a super short story that plays out in a day. I'd really love it if the author gave us a little more expanded version! Highly recommend, definitely enjoyed.

Ultimate Summer was a great addition to the Southern Jersey Shores series. It's the third book in the series. I enjoyed Brett and Sean. I loved their chemistry and how they interacted together without making a big deal of their nine-year age difference. I loved getting to see more of Ace and Dare and Jake and Terry from JT's Bar. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Very quick read
A day in the life of Brett. From going to the beach in the morning to meeting Sean, and spending the day together. What a busy day .
Could have been longer

Brett and Sean were cute and I enjoyed their quick romance. I had some confusion on ages, not that I cared about the age gap but ages were hinted at and not said but they didn’t always line up in my head. I think Sean can be the sweet man that Brett needs and help to rebuild his self confidence.

This wasn't bad and the storyline was good but the book needed to be longer. The ending felt super abrupt and very out of place for what was happening.

*A copy of this book was provided for free by the author in exchange for an honest review.*

This was a very nice quick read. Just enough to have some substance, without there being too much to where you're left feeling unresolved. It was a good peak into the meeting/first date of two people. I liked both guys, a little more depth would've been nice, but there were some nice moments. Mostly concerning Brett's scars, thought what exactly happened and why is still left a mystery. I think the "age-gap" tag isn't really warranted, because of it I was expecting a decent gap, but it ends up only being a few years which, yes, is a factor when it comes to where Brett and Sean are in their lives, but they also aren't that far apart, so it was weird. Bolding the "Ultimate Frisbee" words is a weird choice, it didn't bother me, but I know it will trip some people up. And although this is a third book in a series, you don't need to have read the first two.

Another good short story by Alexis Woods and a good start to Sean and Brett.

From the moment Sean through the frisbee and it hit Brett there was ultimate chemistry between them.

I think that Brett has some hidden scars to match the outward ones and it makes him cautious. But I think that when he met Sean it went flying out the window and he finally allowed himself to live in the moment and fly high with Sean.

Sean is a little older then Brett but he cannot deny how attracted to the younger man that he is. He wants to get to know Brett just as he wants to know what is lying under the surface that is hurting Brett.

I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and get to kno these two characters better and hopefully see their relationship blossom and these two men open up to one another and help each other.

I really enjoyed this read and look forward to more.

*** I received an ARC for an honest and fair review ***

This was a short book about a chance meeting between Brett and Sean on a beach while Sean is playing Ultimate Frisbee. The two meet cute and later hook up at Sean's place. There was a little side mention of a Darren and Aaron but it felt throw away.. maybe setting up for their own story. Or they may have had their own story as this is the only book I have read in the series.

I liked the book okay, I knew going in since it was a short story there wouldn't be much character development and would be more focused on the physical. I was fine with that.. what drove me insane was the randomly bolded words. I'm not sure if this was intentional or was missed in editing but it made reading this frustrating as it constantly took me out of the story.

This book was given to me for free in exchange for an honest review.

This is a short easy read that takes place during one day.

The boys meet when a frisbee accidentally hits Brett, Sean comes to his aid and then takes him to dinner. Sean is a middle school teacher who sometimes works at what sounds like a local sports bar. Who is also an Ultimate Frisbee player. Brett has just graduated High School and just off to collage. It's the summer and he's waiting to start classes. He has some scars which are explained, but if that explanation had been more fully integrated it could have given more to this short.

I have not read the other books in this series. The pub in which Sean brings Brett to eat is also where we meet others from this series. I wouldn't call this a full book, but a novella. Really this is just the beginning for Sean and Brett.

Pinterest board - Ultimate Summer

A few notes about the Southern Jersey Shores Series:

All of these are short stories with HFN endings, with the potential for more. There's attraction and acting on that attraction. Each story takes place over only a few days time.

Each book also revolves around a theme:
Book 1 - Opening Day - baseball
Book 2 - Evading Exodus - Passover
Book 3 - Ultimate Summer - Ultimate Frisbee
Book 4 - Spin Play - games
