Planetary Parley is Cameron Cooper’s third book in the amazing, new, space opera series, Iron Hammer. After reading the first two books in the series, I set a reminder in my calendar to look for this book and it more than lived up to my expectations. Wow. Danny and her companions have been invited to the home world of the slavers and there is a lot of anticipation, and trepidation, by everyone on both sides. After all, these new people are slavers. What would you expect upon meeting a different civilization? Could you trust them? What would you do? What would you expect? This book answers many of those questions and leaves you with more. This entire series is a must read for anyone who loves science fiction/space opera. Thank you Cameron!
The writing is vivid. I love the world building. This is why I love space opera. I am a die-hard fan of this author. The characters are as well developed as the world. I am so happy I found Cameron Cooper as I am a voracious reader, and there is so much going on and the complexity. Highly recommended.
This was not what I was expecting at all from the way book 2 ended, but also a much richer and more satisfying read than I was expecting too. What was going to be a covert rescue mission turned into a by invitation diplomatic mission. I think we all know by now that Danny is a bit too direct to make a good diplomat. Fortunately she has some awesome team members going along with her, as well a few surprising picks.
I won't into how the negotiations went other than to say if you are anticipating irreconcilable differences, that would only be the tip of the iceberg in what they had to deal with. Danny has no patience for long winded diplomats and niceties, and pleasant faced diplomats can't ever be taken at face value. And just when you think you are figuring out the subtext - you realize there is yet another group pushing their interests. This book added much more depth and nuance to the conflict between the two groups and had some very interesting implications for what is coming. Just enough action to keep things moving at a fast pace. I am especially interested to see what happens to Slate.
This is book 3 in a planned 8 book series. Each book contains a full and satisfying story arc, but are part of the bigger arc threading through them and end with lots of questions. Do read them in order as this is a series that builds from book to book.
An awesome, unpredictable space adventure with captivating characters! This was an edge-of-my-seat exhilarating ride with an intricate plot made interesting through plenty of strategic political and military machinations!
Detailed descriptions transported and immersed me into another fascinating new world. Cameron Cooper has made a Sci Fi fan of me after decades of voraciously reading everything else! I greatly admire and appreciate the skill and imagination deployed to create such complex worlds, spacecrafts, characters and their relationships.
I love these characters! Danny and her crew have been sent on a mission into new and dangerous surroundings but she also has other passengers on board to challenge and unsettle her. Relationships with characters from previous books were evolving and in some cases possibly breaking down...how these unfold over the course of the story really intrigued me too.
I can highly recommend this latest book in the Iron Hammer series and especially advocate reading all the books in order. If you want to enjoy these characters in their fully enriched complexity then it's even better to read the Imperial Hammer series beforehand.
Wow!! This story is a nailbiting rush!! I enjoyed in tremendously!! The Terrans invite a delegation to earth and the game of cat and mouse called diplomatic relations is on, as soon as they arrive in the system.
As expected, Danny and our favourite spaceship and crew, run into some extraordinary problems. They learn fascinating intel covertly and the story picks up momentum, until they cascade into one disaster after the other.
The tension eats at you, the horror is real, the action is realistic and fast paced! I honestly thought this time was the end for them, because there just seemed to be no way out. Then came the surprise twist...The plot is complex and completely unpredictable. I loved it!!
Well done Cam on another breathtaking rendition of Danny, the Lythion and crew and their jaw-dropping adventures! I strongly recommend reading the series in order. I can't wait for the next book in the series!!
The world-building here is absolutely phenomenal. Danny and a Team of Politicians / negotiators are visiting at the request of the Terrans. They all want to prevent a war. Danny believes it is inevitable, she is in charge of security for the team.
Brought to an island enclave, our team must deal with completely different set of values and circumstances. Each is assigned their own slave, who may get a little too close at times. Structures with no walls, an intriguing translator Slate, new technologies, and unpleasant histories are erased instead of learned from.
Parawolves provide a bright spot as always.
It’s like you are there. Detailed, imaginative and highly entertaining.
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
This series just keeps getting better and better. Danny goes to visit a planet she really wasn’t planning on going to. Things are not what they seem, things are getting more complicated, and the world building here is wonderful. I love everything about this new series. Whew. Another stay up late and read kind of book from this author. Outstanding!
Vivid and detailed this story has incredible imagery and world building. This is an exciting story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The storytelling is in depth and captivating.
