Pepper Reign is slowly adjusting to life as a new mom. Between waking up at all hours of the night and having her breast milk stolen by her mother-in-law (to feed the baby, of course), Pepper barely has time to catch her breath.
Yep, motherhood definitely has its challenges.
To make matters worse, when the witch council sends a delegate to investigate the new werewolf colony in Magnolia Cove, said delegate winds up murdered.
This is bad. Very bad.
Because now, no one knows who the council will blame for their delegate’s death. The very fate of Magnolia Cove hangs in the balance.
Can Pepper catch a killer and keep the peace in her town? Or will the council seek their own revenge?

This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Pepper rain is a witch and a small southern town that is exclusive to paranormal. Basically just witches and werewolves live in this town. Originally it was just witches but recently Pepper’s husband who is a half witch half werewolf came alpha of his pack in the pack is moved into town. Read on and see what adventures pepper and axle get into this time as there is trouble in town and they must figure out who is at the cause before it’s too late. Check it out
I just finished Southern Mystics, the latest episode of Magnolia Cove's Sweet Tea Witches adventures. I've been binge reading this series for the month of June. There are additional series that interact with Magnolia Cove residents: Pepper, Axle, Betty, Amelia, Cordelia and the rest of the town. I read the additional series too...just to be sure I fully understood what was going on with the crossover. 😉 I like this series because of the variety in characters, plots and descriptions of magical creatures, familiars, etc. A lot of fun!!
The more and more I read these books more I want them to become a series on television! I really couldn’t think of anything better than being able to stream these Sweet Tea Witches on their very own show! So this book was a great story, I loved it because it showed a very real side of motherhood. Just because we are reading these delightful cozy mysteries doesn’t mean we can’t get a little dose of much needed reality. In this book we watch Pepper become acclimated with motherhood. It’s not an easy road but she’s doing her very best, and with a little help from Betty and newly arrived Karen (Axel’s mom) she’s keeping it all together. While Pepper is getting back to her life and getting used to having a baby we have a brand new visitor in Magnolia Cove. This isn’t any ordinary visitor, this woman Hester is from The Official Witches Council. Now, the council has gotten wind to Magnolia Cove and their recent influx of Werewolves they have sent someone to Magnolia Cove to see how this new life is working. Never before have witches and werewolves lived in peace and the council truly cannot believe this phenomenon. Hester has been sent to observe the safety of the witch population and see what the werewolves are doing to bolster the protection of the witches. Hester also has a trail of mice that follow her and tend to do her bidding, they are clearly enchanted but we don’t know why. While Hester is on her official visit something terrible happens to her! Now Pepper has a mystery, dead body, and a trail of mice to deal with. How will we solve this situation and have the werewolves able to live amongst the witches? Who has sabotaged this visit so badly? Why can’t Pepper get through to the mice? I loved the way this installment was spun and really enjoyed getting to the bottom of this mystery!
Another book set in Magnolia Cove, and Pepper is right in the middle of things even though she is an exhausted new Mom. The Council sent Hester Nall to evaluate the werewolf clan and how much of a threat they are to the town. Well, someone doesn't like her nosing around and she is poisoned. Pepper decides she MUST get to the bottom of it and solve the murder mystery but, will it be the death of her little family or did Hester already manage that? One sad note, say goodbye to Garrick, he is moving on. This book was cute and I didn't guess who had done it beforehand. It is always good to revisit Magnolia Cove, and all they people there. This was interesting and I highly recommend this book and series. Waiting for the next book to release.
I really don't understand about Garrett leaving Magnolia Cove, it's like he just got there the same time pepper did. Is he getting his own story like Rufus, or did his character not get enough recognition as Cordelia's love to stay around? I'm not happy with changing roles in my shows which is why I stop watching them because to me it ruins the reason I started watching in the first place. So what do I do about a books storyline taken away one of it's main characters? Does this mean a new storyline for Magnolia Cove with the new werewolves , a newly form witch a r a weird new sheriff in town?
Book 20 - Southern Mystics (Sweet Tea Witch Mysteries)
Most women will tell you how hard it is adjusting life to living with a new baby, there is the lack of sleep, overcoming the possessive "Don't touch my baby", trying to lose that stubborn baby fat, nursing, the list goes on and on. Pepper is experiencing a very unexpected lack of energy and feelings of inadequacy but doesn't want to give up her curiosity & help Axle. Can the werewolves really live safely among the witches? Ego's can become a big issue when dealing with the diverse citizens. Great read, looking forward to the next book. 😍
Author Amy Boyles certainly has a read on the first weeks with a new baby, but poor Pepper has extra challenges (milk bandits, really?!). The murder mystery provides plenty of twists and a surprise killer; however, even after the resolution the council's parting to Pepper feels a bit foreboding. I'm just hoping the new sheriff improves with further acquaintance!
I've been reading these cozy paranormal mysteries for a bit now and to say that they are good is an understatement. These are fantastic!
I just love all the characters and each new situation they get themselves into.
Southern Mystics really hit home for me though. As a new mom, I truly understood what Pepper was going through. The sleepless nights and the need to do everything was exactly how I felt in the beginning. I love that she struggled as in most books this part is glossed over.
I enjoyed that Pepper was able to have those feelings, work through them, and be able to have some independence back.
Hester Nall was a real B...Witch. She lied to so many people about her so called powers and screwed with peoples lives. Sorry her death caused so many problems for Pepper and Axel. Glad that Pepper and Axel were able to find the murderer and Pepper was able to increase her powers.
To say I am a fan is an understatement! I read everything Amy writes. I love her sense of humour and wit. While there are lots of exciting things happening in Magnolia Cove, there’s nothing gross or offensive, scary yes, but not so bad it would give you nightmares.
I live this series by Amy Boyles. I love how Pepper and her family comes together to help each other. In this book the witch council decides to see if the werewolves should ve able to stay in Magnolia Cove with the witches. Brick makes another appearance. I love how Pepper dug deep to protect her family. I couldn't put this book down.
Southern Mystics (Sweet Tea Witch Mysteries Book 20
This was another winner. I love this series and this Author Amy Boyles. She writes great paranormal mysteries. I love her cast of characters in this series. I highly recommend all her books and different series. I can't wait to start the next one tomorrow. Diana Romano
Fun series set in the South in a paranormal town. The plot and subplots move quickly and the conversations flow naturally. It is nice to see the series evolving and I can't wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed the latest story about the Reign family. It has first few weeks of childbirth down to a tee. Pepper will be an amazing mother no matter what gets thrown at her. Roll on next chapter.
i am loving it especially with Pepper being a new mom and having to watch everyone trying to hold her baby. at one dinner banquet Axel asks his mom to watch over the baby. she allows people to see her but not touch her. lol.
I never thought I liked fantasy, witches, etc., but I’ve returned to these books 20 times. Lol. Axel and Pepper’s adventures continue in Magnolia Cove as the werewolves and witches are trying to live together peacefully. Looking forward to the next in this series.
While reading this book, again, I found over 12 grammatical mistakes. It’s really sad when an author makes so many mistakes and they are not caught by the proofreader. Please be more aware in your next books.
These characters are great, even the bad guys! You want to help them solve the murder and get on with normal lives. I recommend it to anyone who wants a fun quick read.
It was a cute but predictable story. The consistent use of the same phrases and gestures for all characters is redundant and a bit annoying. My journey stops with this book. I had a force myself to finish the last two books.
Love the characters and the excitement of each tumoil and magic that takes place. If you love mystery and magic full of surprises you'll love each book! Off to read the next book.
Amidst having a new baby and the Grannies taking over Magnolia cove was in for some shock, A death, A possible questionable future for the wolves an the witches.
New mothers have a hard time with things but having help makes things easier. Revenge never works out the way you want it to, so it is better not to bother.
Another great book by Amy Boyles. I love Pepper and Axel. Reading each adventure they find themselves in always draws me in. Kudos on another great book Amy!
