Erupting Shadows

My name is Tamsin Vale… And I’m Queen Meira’s daughter and heir to the light realm. After all I’ve been through, it turns out I’m an actual pri—nope, still can’t say the “P” word.

Oh, and my dad’s a demigod. Sure, of course he is.

Things aren’t going well given my new status, and too many of the fairy elders are as big of problems as the supe ones. I hear the ancients are worse and overall, it makes it difficult for me to not just bail. This wasn’t what I wanted, and I’m tired of people acting like what they want is a given for me, especially some of my men.

I’m tired of a lot of things.

There’s no chance for me to have a relaxing summer to recharge like I need when so much is on my plate. Fine, I’ll have some other fun as best as I can, and maybe I’ll get a vacation when I’m dead.

I just don’t know how much longer I can keep juggling everything and not let out the truth.

More of the same

Idk, I really liked this series at first but it just has become extremely repetitive. Maybe adding a new person to the harem would be a good idea since all the relationships are either not exciting to read about any more or just boring with all the repeating.
I would like to see more plot as well and less stupidity and preaching?

Might have to give up

10 books in. I am starting to think this shouldn't be marketed as a reverse harem romance, and more a fantasy adventure with light s#x. The writing is amazing, still very heavy on the feminist rants but that's tolerable. What is becoming intolerable is the lack of growth from....well. anyone. The only person that's perfect in every way is Tamsin. No romance between her and any of the males, the writer is so busy making sure we know the heroine is a badd@ss that the guys have to be subjugated pansies. Seriously, there is one scene where one of her guys apologized for seemingly standing up for her. I get it....women are their own powerful voice, but that doesn't mean men have to be less valued! Again....fantastic writing, but if you are looking for a reverse harem romance, its becoming abundantly clear this series won't be it unless the writer starts treating her male leads with some respect.

2 I’m disappointed stars
The editing is horrendous & that’s all I’ll say on that.
The unnecessary relationship drama is exhausting. We’re ten books in & not one of her four bf have a healthy & solid foundation? That’s absurd. She’s emotionally high maintenance & contrary. She finds faults & insults were none exist. I can’t deal with it. It isn’t even new drama it’s recycled & redundant 💩. The plot is also losing its freshness. It’s obvious the big bad is a demigod (like her father). It’s likely he teamed up with the demons. Sadly, even the much anticipated fairy angles have lost their appeal. 🤨 She ruined the opportunity to show an ideal bc she recycled the same sexist drama it’s just a different species. I’m disappointed a series that started so strong with an underlying feminist FMC has turned into a manufactured machine to lecture us on toxic masculinity & the patriarchy. Stop being so heavy handed, it’s like beating a dead horse. Enough of what’s wrong, the fairies had the potential to show what’s right. Ruined opportunities. & most importantly the series has no business being this long, it’s a disservice. Luckily, it’s free on KU. Even so, I doubt I’ll read any future books by this author.

Ahhh!

Man, I tell ya that Tamsin , is a complicated heroine. Sometimes I'm cheering her on and the next she can be unbelievable high maintenance that it gets on my nerves. But I so love this storyline with all it's foolishness... So, I'll be sitting here waiting for book 11 to drop and I can't wait since I feel everything is getting ready to come to head and I still don't believe Tasmin , has met her biggest enemy yet...

Overall Rating: ~ A Good Read

DNF @ 33%.

With each new book Tamsin became less and less likeable. She starts off as a strong female character, she stands her ground and doesn't let anyone pull one over on her. She is a champion of justice and fairness. By book 10 though, even though she says she is not perfect, whenever there is a conflict it is always someone else's fault and they must beg for forgiveness because they have hurt her so. She doesn't ever really stop to think how her actions affect the men in her harem.

The plot has also gone by the wayside, Tamsin set out to heal Fairy and free the Fairies, along putting a stop to the corruption in the supernatural world. At this point, the story is being dragged out. It is always the same "silly plots" against her, and how she is always one step ahead. She has become conceited really.

Highly disappointed

First, this book had zero plot line. As usual, Tam is absolutely perfect, the only one with morals and the only one who fights for justice. GAG!! Nothing really happened, except Tam complaining how she has to do everything, which is a lie. Others offer all of the time. The only thing she has to do on her own, is wake up the fairies, which she did not do in this book. The only drama that occurred, was at the 90% mark and it was only a couple of pages. In reality, this book can be skipped because it added nothing to the series. In this book we learned Republicans are bigots. Then we get a lecture about LGBTQ. Instead of just having gay characters, she had to make a spectacle out of it. As usual all men are misogynistic and want to rape or assault her. She uses her telepathy to listen in, and gets upset if someone is thinking about having sex with her. Just thinking something in your mind is not the same as doing it. Many people have thoughts that they would never act on nor say aloud. However, Tam announces it and then embarrasses and demean them for their private thoughts. 10 books in and it is still the same old same old. The council is still a group of greedy, misogynistic leeches. I thought the underground was supposed to be the bad guys? But in reality, they have nothing to do with story, except for maybe 1 to 2 "major" scenes in the series. Then let's go into her "boyfriends. " This book is supposed to be a reverse harem. In a reverse harem, each partner is loved the same and their personalities fill a void another may lack, so in a sense there is harmony. In reality, the only person she seems to care about is Darby. The rest are side pieces. She says she loves them, but she does not accept them as they are. They are supposed to accept her, but she wants them to change to fit her needs. They need to accept her past and the way it formed her. Yet, she does not give the same respect. For instance, with Julian, she knew he always got lost in a project. But she finally confronted him, that she felt ignored. He rectified (even though being lost in learning is part of his personality)H also did not cheat on her. She makes him grovel and still throws that incident in his face. Each "mistake" that has occurred in each relationship were, overall, minor. If Tam, cannot forgive or let go of the past, the relationships should be over. She does not accept the wonder and permanency of a mate bond, instead she uses it to push Hudson and, particularly, Lucca away. She acts like they have no redeeming qualities. Like I said, Julian, Lucca, and Hudson seem to worship the ground she walks on, treats her like a princesses, yet they seem to be just booty calls to her.

Needs to end. And soon.

Have loved this series and waited keenly for each instalment over the last year or thereabouts...however, my enthusiasm has begun to rapidly wain. This instalment, as was the last few instalments, has begun to get boring and needlessly drawn out. The author has lost a lot of the action in her words, and has proceeded onto long drawn out monologues and boringly drawn out conversations. A lot of expression and action has disappeared and your left putting your own emotional interpretation onto the scene as there's very little to go by. The annoying, over the top monologues and pompous lecturing (roll eyes) just leave you confused and unsure of what the hell is happening. The antagonists are repeatedly village idiots and sexist twat's and coming at the MC from all sides as and the MC just continues to rebuff and verbally spew crap and its really getting monotonous. It's just repeat, repeat, repeat. Boring boring boring. Where has the naughty smut scenes gone? Where is the kick arse action scenes of an MC who's actions speak louder than her boring self righteous verbal spew? If I wanted a friggin goody two shoe, do-gooder main female character, I would not have started reading this series because the MC was originally not any of these things. She friggin kicked arse!!! Ffs, an antagonist is acting the arsehole, punch 'em in the face! Break their friggin nose! Where has that character gone? It's not a reflection of the characters "growth" because the character is BORING & REPELANT! BAT SHIT BORING! If the author has lost her drive to write this tale then ffs just end it. Otherwise pick up your game cos your arse is seriously dragging in the mud. Immaculate give it 1 more book....that's it. It doesn't improve, I'm out.

More of the same filler

Once again, we get a book filled with excessive, extended rants from Tamsin. That are seriously monotonous. She rants for pages like people would really stand there and listen. The reason this book got three stars instead of one or two is because there were three things in this book designed to be “epic” and exciting. The first failed epically. 200 sword fights? I was over it after the first few. The second was gut wrenching but how Tamsin got in was only a little absurd. The last at the end was even more absurd. It caused a stunted ending. The story needs to come together. I am over the weird boyfriend drama. I am over the hiding of the fairies. I’m never going to make it to 26 books. Additionally, she had less noticeable grammar issues but I swear there were conversations between characters that made absolutely no sense. And most of the book is not about the characters. You barely even see Darby and there was no sign of Izzy at all. This was a terrible addition to the series. Now it’s like she’s trying too hard. Bring it together Ms. Flynn. Please. I do like the series but I am not going to make it if it keeps going like this. And that is not to take away from your work because I can tell you worked hard but as a consumer, I am going to have to stop spending the money if there is not improvement soon. I don’t feel like that is unreasonable.

I absolutely stayed up all night to read this ❤️

The ending of this was a bit abrupt, and there were definitely a good amount of grammatical errors. Also, the ‘busting the bad guys’ theme is getting kinda repetitive. I really want everyone to find out the big secret already so we can get some content on how all our characters will deal with that turn of events.

Other than that, I loved this next installment of Tamsin’s story! The characters are dealing with real issues and emotions that had me crying many times throughout this book. I cannot wait to find out what will happen next, especially with the hints that were dropped in this book!

I still like this series, now after Mel, Izzy gets less and less page time. Don't like that. Also her relationships are not stable. Two are set. Two others are ups and downs...

Fae Shenanigans

This book is part of a continuing series and cannot be understood if read separately from the preceding books.

Tamsin is getting ready to go back to Artemis for her Junior year and is getting pressure from both sides of the fae spectrum. Surrounded by elders and ancients who criticise constantly Tamsin has to find a way to achieve her goals of freeing all fae before all the political nonsense drives her to drink.

At the same time as some fae are causing problems, others are providing guidance and support, helping with her fae education. However, as usual not all her men are providing the support she needs and are being selfish in their needs. It seems poor Tams can’t have all four men act in a kind and caring way at the same time.

As well as romance problems and fae problems she also has the normal supernatural problems of the councils all trying to get her to reveal what race she is so they can control her.

This book doesn’t have masses of interesting plot. Everything moves along but it’s not the usual breakneck speed. There are some rescues but not many. The book is mainly focused on Tamsin’s promises to free the fae and the ramifications that has on her role as an Heir. That it wasn’t so breakneck did not spoil my enjoyment, in fact, it gave me more time to appreciate the story. I’m looking forward to what happen next.

Not sure this deserves a 4 star or not at this point.
This book is part of an ongoing series, a new reader needs to start with book 1, or be totally lost, as they each continue from the previous book. I think this book is the best edited of all the books I've read by this author (not that editing/proofreading is perfect, just better than in the past). While this is a decent addition to the series, I felt like I was put thru the wringer when I finished this (talk about a book hang-over). It was just too much bad emotional baggage for poor Tamsin. I cried a lot of random tears (not ugly crying, just random swipes with a Kleenex) for Tamsin, and a steady stream of tears at the horrors inflicted on the fae dogs that she rescues. The events in this book would have had a less strong main character run from it all (I would have). The fae (mostly the ancients & elders) definitely need some sense knocked into them (or worse!) for what they are putting poor Tamsin thru. They are as bad as all the supe counsels giving her grief. I kept thinking she would run, except for her deep down desire to free all of the fae still under the evil queen's spell at this point. I also feel like she needs to dump all her men, as they are all too demanding/abusive of her emotionally. (Lucca really needs to be put in his place, he's almost as bad as or worse than Neldor at this point!) The guys have yet to prove to me that they aren't being selfish with their desires for her, it's "all about them" -continuously. She hasn't shown them any unfaithfulness or reasons to think all this jealousy crap. Only thing she's done is run when stressed out.

Mixed feelings

I absolutely love this series and this book is not my favorite so far. It seems to be a place holder or setting things up for the next layer to the story - definitely seems like a new villain is on the horizon. This book was a bit of the same to her prior books, which have all been focused on battling against the same themes. The MFC is in the same position, feeling the same feelings, battling the same battle. So in that sense I was hoping for a bit more development. However I like the introduction of the new female character to support her. I like some of the resolutions with her male relationships even if it wasn’t really developed well. I am glad she is finally addressing Lucca. I love the relationship she is building with her father. I am also glad some people are standing up. I am a bit surprised how extreme the fairies are going but I am very interested to see where this goes. I’m invested in this series and even though this wasn’t my fav of the series, I still devoured it in one night. Looking forward to what comes next!

Heavier Than Usual

I have read most of the books in this series 4 times so I'm not exaggerating when I say I am addicted. That being said, I didn't enjoy this book as much as it's predecessors. This is not a dis to the author as the plot progressed and new information was discovered. My opinion is solely due to personal preference and how a book makes me feel. In most of the books in this series, there are lots of obstacles but the darker pieces are evened out with Tamsin kicking serious booty. In this book, I was mostly anxious and there weren't many wins. I finished feeling a bit heavy and sad. This is a me problem though and I think many will enjoy this one more than I did. I am really excited to read book 11 however and would still recommend this to those who love this series and/or author.

Love, as usual. Erin Flynn is a goddess. She needs a better editor, but she is a goddess. I hope to Jesus that one day this series and her others are picked up by one of the major publishers so they get edited properly (not for content. Her content is always on point. I’m talking more about occasional typos or missing words) and printed so I can buy them all irl and keep them on a shelf with all of the other books I’ve ever loved.

Love love love this series but warning this one is on the darker side. It shows Tam's choosing should she be quiet or not. Erin has a flare of writing strong women and Tamsin is no exception. Did I say I love this book and the series as well

Great addition to one of my favorite series in my library!

First! I’d like to point out I drop whatever book I’m in the middle of reading to read the newest book in this series as soon as it comes out!

With that being said, since this is book 11(I think), I’m hoping it’s acceptable to focus on the few things I didn’t particularly enjoy without seeming like I’m tearing the book apart or didnt like it. I LOVE THIS SERIES. PERIOD. But since we’re all veterans at this point this review shouldn’t really be read by a new reader looking for reasons to invest in the series. However; if somehow this has found the eyes of a new reader.. stop now, clear your calendar, and read this series!

Okay, jumping in. (With my totally unprofessional & nowhere near author level opinion):

•the different variations of the phrase “I held up my hand to hold him off” when she and other people are delivering what is undoubtedly a mic drop worthy speech is mentioned 11-12 times 😳😒. This something that i found myself constantly rolling my eyes at in previous books and has gotten annoying enough to mention this time around. It just makes her seem so haughty and annoying when we know she’s not.
•I wasn’t a fan of how little we saw of the Tamsin and Hudson story line in this book as well as the last book. What little we did see in this book were interactions that weren’t even really about them as a couple. It’s hard to keep rooting for a connection between characters if we aren’t given enough meaningful dialogue between them to keep us invested in their relationship.
•I know this is an ongoing series and there has to be conflict that needs resolution in order to provide content, but the last 2-3 books haven’t given us to many positive connection scenes between Tamsin and her men to feed our loyalty to their relationship. I feel like it forces us to take sides and personally I end up taking the guys side leaving me exasperated and frustrated with how Tamsin acts and reacts to them. Her insecurities are noted and have been justified extensively so when a moment of connection between her and her men (that is already so infrequent) is ruined by her well versed insecurities.. I feel.. cheated(?) in a way. I don’t want her to be a pushover by any means, but a little less jaded would do wonders for my romance addicted soul 😁
^
These aren’t plot defining hang ups, they were just so frequent throughout this book that they seemed to hold more weight to me.

-I will say I would LOVE to see more of the hobgoblins (but who wouldn’t) and lieutenant Arlen 😏. (Please don’t let him be a conflict character 🤞🏼🤞🏼)
-I loved the fact there was a resolution in this story that’d been a long time coming 🥺. Vague I know, but spoilers aren’t cool.
-I also loved the scenes of Tamsin and her dad spending “normal” time together. & of course when he gets protective of her and stands up for her no matter how much she doesn’t need it 💚.
—Last, but not least, I honestly REALLY enjoyed the dynamic between Tamsin and Neldor evolving a little bit. Unfortunately I did feel like Tamsin’s internal negative dialogue sort of overshadowed or negated a potentially positive scene (same issue I have with the scenes of her and her men), but again.. these aren’t my characters so maybe there is a point to it 🤷🏻‍♀️

This review turned out longer than I planned soooooo thank you for coming to my TedTalk! Lol. I can’t wait to do it again when the next book comes out!! I just know it’s gonna be a doozie!!

Detail Oriented (spoiler)

I love this series. I started reading after book two was just released and honestly, it has been a ride. We hear so much praise for Tamsin and her struggles from the other characters so often, and being reassured that it’s okay to not be okay. But truthfully, the author is the one whom I wish to praise far more. Every step is so detailed and precise that I’m astonished how she keeps it all together. I like to imagine her having a dozen spreadsheets on each character to help. Erin R Flynn has given us 10 full length books and we the fairies are only now being outed?! This works is vast and beyond what I expected and it’s nonstop at that. It doesn’t matter if it takes 7 or 8 hours to finish, I still wait for a day off and set an alarm to remind myself to eat before I start. At book 3 I was scared the series would end as a trilogy like most, so I waited for the next book after to be released before reading it. If I knew we would be here ten books later, I wouldn’t have hesitated so much.

While I’m sure it’s an unpopular opinion, I’m also rooting for Neldor to gain a spot in the harem. While I adore the other guys, he has the potential of being able to back her up as a fairy. What non of us realize is that he got fucked up at a young age and fucked over by everyone during the war. He has been and is always putting fairies first, even if only the dark ones before. He was an idiot and naive but as he’s gotten kicked around and his eyes opened, he’s become more docile. He almost feels the need to protect himself with these small wins when he picks fights. At the same time, I think his reactions are valid. If I was the only known heir left and my people and country were left in the hands of strange man who knew nothing of it, and the only way to save my people was to marry the stranger, I would do it. And he did. He agreed to marry Tamsin as a babe. Has he come to respect her? Yes. Does he appreciate poking her mates with how they keep fucking up. Oh definitely, he’s spiteful of them for making him out to be a villain. But that’s what makes him such a complex character. He and Tamsin are well matched in their personalities when they agree, and both are open to logic and arguments. They both have an intense need to bring justice and enjoy getting revenge. They hold grudges and never forget. They truly are an excellent team even if Tamsin won’t admit it. His character growth makes me happy and I look forward to Lucca growing as well. I didn’t like how Tamsin kept accepting his apologies when he didn’t put her first and kept saying shit that wasn’t true. It makes me relived that she doesn’t have to put up with him if she doesn’t want and that Hudson won’t hate her for it.

So far every male in her harem has gone through something to grow from. Darby and The blood, followed by his family, Craftsman and his neglect, Hudson and his lies and hiding things, so why should Lucca, who’s father, lets admit, would be over the moon if he knew they were mates, get a free pass? Tear him down Tamsin! Make him realize that being “woke” doesn’t mean he’s doing something right.

I binge read all 10 of these books.

There's a lot of swearing, a lot of explicit content (allthough it is well done compared to the usual fare), a lot of emotional maturity (which is positively surprising for a series heavily featuring university drama) and a lot of assholes.

I'm usually not a fan of political themes woven into books, as it's usually badly done, but I really enjoyed this one. This is my favorite example of overtly feminist fantasy. It's so well done that I'll recommend it to everyone reading this, even if the first book starts out very cliche. I wouldn't say i'm 100% aligned with the author's view on politics in general, but I can appreciate a well made argument and to be honest, this series, reading it from the perspective of people experiencing it, even if it was fiction, has made me re-evaluate some of my own ideas.

If you are a feminist and are wondering if this has a chance to change some minds, it changed mine at least a bit. There's something to be said for this kind of fiction.

Tamsin is a complicated character with layers, but eminently reasonable. She threads the needle of not being a pushover at any point and not being unreasonable either.

I've seen some reviews complaining about how high maintenance she is with regards to relationships, but I see this as a realistic portrayal of someone who went through hell, is currently still going through hell, and is trying their best to not come apart at the seams. I like this portrayal because it shows Tamsin isn't a Mary Sue: she has problems and the weight of her responsibility is only barely bearable.

Her Lovers aren't the usual RH fare either. They're also all complex, they have their own issues, and the book saves itself from the typical portrayal of happily-ever-after immediately after the characters get together. This feels like the story of an actual relationship, with ups and downs and means.

On a darker note I fiercely enjoyed the bad assholes getting their comeuppance. I haven't seen another author write antagonists quite so well that I wanted to reach into the book and strangle them myself. Very well done.

On that note

That these books were all free on kindle unlimited was extremely generous. I've paid 10€ or more each for kindle books I've liked a hell of a lot less and didn't feel cheated.

Please note the following review encompasses books 7 through 12 of the SERIES. As each book depends on the prior books, I am not reviewing each individually to cut down on repetition. Following this review, I will be reviewing the series in batches of 5, with a final end review of the series as a whole.

As always, I will endeavor to minimize spoilers, but please read at your own risk.

OH.MY.GODDESS.

I am practically speechless right now. I just closed my Kindle on that wicked relationship cliffhanger at the end of book 7, and my better half (at least according to him) is laughing at me for looking like a fish with my mouth opening and closing. (He's a real peach 🍑, 😆)

So far, I can honestly say that I have never read anything like Artemis University before. It is one of a kind, which honestly makes me a little sad, because it is so freakin amazing. It is nonstop. Full out. Action, coming of age, romantic relationship drama, friendship makers and breakers, enemies to lovers, heiress to the empire ... I could go on except I can't find the words. This series has everything you could want. Hot and steamy. Warm and domestic. Plus some swashbuckling and tight pants. It is almost the Princess Bride of romance series.

Well, if Buttercup was really a Fairy, and there were multiple Wesleys, some of whom are quite dark on the morally gray scale. The R.O.U.S.'s easily could translate to the assorted corrupt elders and councils, provided they could survive and even thrive away from the Fire Swamp ....

I am getting way off track. Anywho, there is a metric frakton that happens in these 5 books, but I am not going into details. No spoilers, remember? Just trust me. Have someone hold your beer and download the first book. It feels like a crazy leap, but you will love every moment of learning to fly.

However, before I go, I do want to add a content warning of sorts because mental health matters. Contained in the story so far, you will find past trauma (physically, emotionally, and smexually.) There are forced abductions, bullying outside of the harem, references to ongoing trafficking, violence, attempted forced mating and SA, intimate partner abuse, family disconnect and related trauma from both sides, and discussion of forced breeding. Please know your limits and read responsibly.

More Upsets, Not Enough Wins

In this book, Tamsin has a lot of crap go on and takes on new opponents. She finds new horrors involving the fae dogs, fairy ancients and elders are ramping up their pressure, and someone very powerful is meddling in her school. I find it curious that the powerful fairies who checked out Dean White couldn't detect the meddling. So was it another fairy? A demon? Just as nobody could detect her influence on Shurr, I think the same has happened here. I'm just speculating, but I believe the Underground was founded by and is still run by a powerful fairy. I think he has gone increasingly dark as his access to Fairy (the planet) has caused him to build up an excess of negative energy. Also, I believe that demons are also involved with Underground. It seems like it began as an anti- authoritarian movement and became worse and worse as it progressed. Power corrupts, as we have seen.
Love life: Lucca is in the dog (bear?) house after he has acted so aggressively towards Tamsin, not in a mean way, but a way that makes her feel like "Mate", not "Tamsin". Lucca loves her so much, but he has had very bad habits and attitudes instilled into him by his very disrespectful father. He's at cross- purposes to himself at this point and doesn't know how to get free of the mess he's created. She loved him so much at the beginning, but he is so young mentally that he doesn't see what he's doing. It's like watching a slow-motion train wreck. I truly hope they work things out, as he could be a huge help for her in the furure.
I love ALL your books, Ms. Erin, but I have a special place in my heart for Tamsin. Hugs and kisses to you and Vader. Keep up the hard work! And get a human or a program to filter your messages for you! Please. You are too wonderful to allow negativity to ruin your day. Let the nice ones through and send the nasty ones to the police. You are supported and loved.
9/10 Unicorns, highly recommend for purchase or borrow via library or Kindle Unlimited. Make sure to read them in order!

its good but

I know there is so much to unpack in this universe. And that's all good and dandy. But also its feeling a little of the same with a different scenario. First the hobgoblins then the fae dogs, and so on.

Because its been two years I wish more of her relationships were in a better place. It felt like we got very little guy time in this book. Like it was great seeing how Tamsin and craftsman are slowly getting better Because what he did hurt her so much, i get their bond taking time to heal. She forgave Darby the quickest, but it still feels like she's punishing him for what the others have done. And yea, that's how trauma works so realistically you're on point. But also it felt as if she mostly came with them for sexy time. With Hudson & River I'm glad that she revealed a little more of herself and that he finally understood where she was coming from about Lucca. Lucca is so stuck, still, on dealing with the mate thing that their actual relationship is nonexistent.

This series does go beyond badass female lead i to I am woman hear me roar territory a lot. And it digs into species hate, and dark/light hate a lot. There is a lot of prejudice to dismantle in this. And since the ball has already started rolling on that, it would be unrealistic for it to magically dissappear from one book to the next. I do wish she hadn't had to deal with it from the Fairy folk... but oyyy

My Thoughts
As usual, my emotions were all over the place throughout this book. There's another tournament where Tamsin gets to show off (again). She gets a new fairy advisor, and she has a few peaceful moments with Neldor - of course that's until he opens his mouth.

About the Characters
Tamsin proves her smarts by being cautious but accepting help from those that know more (within reason - she doesn't put up with BS). Darby feels more secure in his place with Tamsin and rightfully so. Craftsman makes some progress and Husdon has some things to work out for himself. Don't get me started on Lucca.

Things I Liked
I love all scenes with Lageos in them. He's understanding, supportive, and protective. I like that her men are all capable of rational reasoning. I love that Tamsin makes sure everybody knows who she truly is at her core.

Thing I Didn't Like
Lucca needs to open his eyes and check himself. His treatment of Tamsin is unacceptable. I hate how her own people tend to treat her as well. She's not breakable or inept.

More Thoughts
There are fae dog puppy mills just as there are for dogs in real life and the raid of one brought me to tears. Most books in this series end on a happy note or a personal one, but this one is more political as Tamsim ends up backed into a corner.

Does it standalone?
No.

Bottom Line
An emotionally chaotic read, this book takes us in some new directions and present new challenges.

Interesting

Not sure how to feel about this one. Stuff happened. Possible big boss somewhere in the background. It continued where the last one left off. I keep getting the feeling things are both moving too fast and not fast enough at the same time. Not sure what exactly the end goal of this series is supposed to be. I both like and don’t like it. Like nothing is really solved and different things keep piling on. I’m emotionally and mentally exhausted with this main character. If the author can do one thing to make this series better in my opinion is to literally take something off the mc’s plate and leave it off. Example: nail down the relationships and leave them alone or let us have a book where the relationships are not an issue. Some other things could be dealt with too but I’m not sure how the author would do it at this point because of how they have written everything up to this point. Its like we are on a roller coaster and too late to change the tracks now.
I am also curious has to how many books will be in this series. 2 years and some months have occurred over 10 books. A lot has happened in such a short amount of time. I still recommend this series, it is good just very different.

Boring and repetitive

I am completely disappointed in this book. I feel like we are getting no where in this series. I literally fell asleep sitting up I was so bored with it but I kept reading hoping something would change... We would get somewhere new instead of arguing the same points over and over but it never happened in this book. I will probably try to start reading the next book In this series when it is released because I did enjoy this series in the beginning but if it is the same boring deal as this one I'm calling it quits. Also I feel that tamsin is not growing overtime like I hoped she would she's still so self centered its sickening... the way she treats her "mates" is gross feeling to me... Always making them feel like crap but claims she listens to them and takes their feelings and opinions in to consideration is bulls**it. She still does what she wants regardless. Her mates come off as sniveling twits who are always apologizing to her because they hurt her feelings. If your into big push overs who always kiss a** and never stand their ground then this series is for you!

Always a Tamsin Fan!

Okay, where to start. I will always continue to follow Tamsins' journey from start to finish. That being said. I felt this book wasn't up to MS. Flynn's usual standards. Not that the fighting scenes and the sex were not great, but some of the action seemed to be disjointed and a little muddled. I get that Tamsin is a fighter for justice and a conqueror of inequality. But, sometimes she acts exactly how the purps treat her, or the people she defends. She seems to not give anyone else's ideas merit and won't listen to any suggestions. Also I get confused on why she's always mad at one of her lovers (mates) and for whatever reason. I've read all of her books and still can't keep up with why one or more of them are always in the doghouse or being frozen out of her love life. I still think the intent is there to stand up and fight for the 'little guy', but sometimes its better to do it quietly. You catch more flies with sugar than vinegar. But that's my opinion. Maybe I'm too much of a pacifist and just want everyone to get along. Even so, I can't wait to see how she kicks butt in the next books. Please hurry!

As to the overarching plot, I actually like where it's going with , but still remain emotionally devastated that the author hasn't divorced the protagonist from her [gag] mates. As with the previous nine books, they abuse her and abuse her emotionally, and she continues to take it. She can stand up to the world, but not to the four people who continually see her as their sex puppet.

I mean that, seriously. When I'm reading those sections, I see the following playing out over and over (rude words incoming), . It hurts my book-reader soul to see her take this abuse over and over again.

But the world plot continues to remain interesting, which is why I force myself through these books, even though I give them two stars for the protagonist abuse.
