Idk if it’s because of her crazy trauma or if it’s because she doesn’t have enough common sense😀 but this girl is the dumbest FMC on and off planet. She’s so frustrating and the author tries to write her in a “quirky” way. She’s constantly putting everyone around her in danger and then endangering herself because she’s useless. This series was compared to Sanctuary but Avery would never…

I was so happy a about the zombie rh but this was just a nope. First of all, the mfc is 17. Like, that's a child you are talking about getting physically, emotionally, and seggsually abused. In detail. Also, she might not have a lot of social interactions but according to her she's watched a lot of TV and based on her being so smart, can tell what's socially acceptable. Yet she acts like she's never seem humans before. Second, if she is supposed to be taking over this mafia thing, why are the parents basically making her a victim? And I get she's no socialized but she acts like a mix of Sheldon Cooper and a manic pixie girl. I've yet to see what's so special other than her being beautiful to keel everyone enthralled. And if she has been abused all her life by her parents in the worts ways, why is her first thought always to save them? It's got a few funny moments but not worth the exasperation.

As a Romance this book was lovely. It had the feels, the men and the blurted confessions. On the other hand it had quite a lot of jealousy issues and I’m not convinced on the handling of those problems. I would have preferred more talking and less growling on that department.

As an apocalypse story. Ehh. Not so good.
If the Yellowstone volcano erupted then people in Aspen, colorado would notice. A thousand km is not really far if a supervolcano went boom. Search your science if you want to sprinkle abundant catastrophies. I am not acquainted with tornadoes but I think they have a tendency to merge if they funnel too close together.
The acid rain was a bit too much for me. Dramatic, yes. Also confusing. Human skin is a strong organ. You would have to pour undiluted acid on it to get the results described here. No human would just stay screaming in the rain to die out. Our flight instincts would save us. And acid? If you got it on your skin, you would have to neutralize it. Clean water might work but sometimes you might need something stronger. (And I’m not even a chemist but I still know this.) I was really disappointed when after all the dead people and the horrifying rain, one of our guys just gets a drop or two on his hand and he doesn’t need medical help. I mean really? Most of the baddest acids would just keep gnawing on his hand and keeping him in total agony until treated.

And then there was the miracle cure?

Oh please. I loved the story build-up. I appreciated the trauma moments, the panic attacks, the autism. The vagueness of the memories of abuse. Nobody wants to remember abuse. If main lady doesn’t go to details too much, it just makes the story better. I don’t remember my school bullies, I have blank years in my memory bank and I’m. Fu**ing. Happy. About. It.

But the cure? Nope. I don’t buy the idea that the shrewd and cruel DOD would just bank on keeping his daughter as the only means for a cure. He would have had a contingency even if he was sort of stupid.

Oh and please for the love of all that is holy.. never ever call a bad guy masochistic bastard. Masochists enjoy getting pain. Sadists enjoy inflicting it.

Fantastic post apocalyptic reverse harem!!

This series is all that and a bag of chips! Honestly it has everything, adventure, hot heroes, beautiful feisty heroine, absorbing plot, well developed characters, tons of steamy sex, and a HEA (of sorts).

Addie is a rich girl with horribly abusive parents. She has been kept under lock and key her entire life, and has tried desperately to be “perfect” to make her parents proud AND keep away from their punishments. Nothing she does satisfies them, and her father regularly beats and tortures her. He also has sent his business associates to her room to rape her in deals that he makes for more wealth and power. Addie has grown so used to her awful life that she is numb to it, and hides behind a haughty mask and rapier sharp sarcastic wit.

Over the course of a week she comes to meet a group of guys (all hot of course) that all know one another, in fact, are as close as brothers to each other. Each guy is solidly written and well developed. They are all unique in their personalities and traits, and they all compliment Addie’s “craziness” perfectly! While she is getting to know the guys a series of bizarre weather and environmental issues rock her home (her home is like a prison, it’s a huge resort that her father owns. He’s pretty much a mafioso). When Addie finally begins to “open up” to these infuriating men, the world ends, seriously, the world freaking ends. And as if that weren’t enough, zombie like creatures attack and swarm everyone and everything. Addie finds herself (for the first time in her life) relying on someone (someone(s) else). Up to this point she has had no one to rely on but herself. And no one to “save” her.

The rest of the series is Addie and her guys journey navigating this new, perilous, post apocalyptic world. The series spins a fascinating, exciting and steamy tale that engages the reader start to finish. You can’t help but fall hopelessly in love with the brave, self-conscious, somewhat broken crazy girl named Adelaide as she falls in love (slowly, trying to figure out what it is that she is feeling, and how she can feel this way for multiple men). And all seven of Addie’s harem are completely scrumptious! Seriously! Every-time I thought I’d chosen a favorite, my mind changed, lol! I finally realized, that just like Addie, I could love multiple men simultaneously *wink*.

The book wasn’t without its somber moments, moments that only enhanced and enriched the overall plot, if not making me completely crazy, and having me break out into ugly crying fits. The way May weaves the narrative alongside expertly crafting the self deprecating female with an abundance of physical and emotional scars is incredible! Honestly I’ve read a lot of reverse harem, a lot of post apocalyptic tales, none of which were able to weave the two tropes together so very well (with the exception of SM Oliver’s “sanctuary” series, which is phenomenal). May is dynamite. And Together We Fall is a journey that you will FALL completely into, and love forever.

Overall a pretty good series - Apocalyptic, slow burn

I didn't know exactly what this series was about, I primarily read it due to who the author was. It starts off with a 17 year old (nearly 18) who lives at a resort with her abusive and mafia / cartel connected parents. She's been tortured, abused, sexually assaulted, etc. She comes across a few different guys at different points who all happen to know each other from "school", though it's a special school.

While they're all at the resort, strange weather begins happening all over the world including a tornado at the resort. She and the guys get rescued by their team leader and company, and is where, not intentionally, manages to split ways from her parents (not knowing where they are or what happened to them).

From this point on, they need to work together to figure out the world around them - the wonky weather, as well as a parasite that can work into people's bodies and basically turns them into zombies, making the world fall apart into an apocalypse.

This book IS an RH, but it's a very slow burn. Nothing really happens until the 4th book, and even then, it basically gives you one small scene for most of the males she's with. It doesn't even give them all a scene until the epilogue somewhat, and the bonus book at the end of this box set.

There's a few small things that aren't explained all that well in the books either - I don't want to get into them all due to spoilers, but I do wish a few things were touched up on more.

Overall - it was a good story, great characters with unique backgrounds / histories and personalities, so I'll rate the overall series a 5. I didn't love the ending - it seemed to drag on and on to the point I nearly didn't finish it, but I pushed myself. I'll still recommend the books if people are looking for apocalyptic styles, assuming they don't mind a very slow burn!

This is a box set. DNF 68%

Adelaide has a lot of issues that are never addressed. I think if adding child sexual abuse (especially at such depth) into a story, those issues absolutely have to be addressed. There is nothing "fun" about it.

I actually liked Addies characterisation for book 1 and 2 she was entertaining. The rest though read like the author got bored with the series too.

This is definitely a leave your common sense at home book though. All those injuries do not heal in days.

Let's talk about this virus.... Why is it picky about who it infects? The "team" has been bitten, scratched, bled on on, honestly anything you could think of. Yet non of them got infected.. I kept reading thinking any minute now we would understand more about what was going on, eerrrmm no.

Writing RH means juggling a lot of personalities, making everyone actually have a limelight. A lot of the MMCs got lost in this series. I read Ashers' name and thought, who???? Adding Tommy and Nik too wasn't great because again we lost characters.

I did like that Devlin wasn't a run of the mill MMC it made the series more interesting. Really need to brush up my sign language.

I liked the series BUT by 68% I couldn't suspend reality anymore. A bullet wound to the stomach and Addie was moving within 2 weeks, after being beaten black and blue the week before that. I don't need to be a doc to say that is some serious reaching. I get a paper cut and believe me everyone will hear about it ... Lol

I would recommend this if you want a zombie light read that you don't need to think too much about and will make you laugh.

I was told about this series when looking for recommendations and as a fan of Katie May I couldn't wait to start it.

I'll start with the downside: I enjoyed this series but found some overuse of wording which annoyed me and our FMC became slightly annoying throughout, there was a repeated telling of character descriptions and how they met throughout which if you hadn't read book one and picked up the others then I would have to be concerned.. Addie our FMC had a lot of good but also some really irritating tendencies which in book one or two could be enjoyable soon made me skip over things being said, this was the same with descriptions of main characters etc. I also feel like the abuse was slightly overlooked, it was touched upon but other than Addie's "handling" or not handling should I say it kind of felt overlooked and just put in the story.

On the upside: this series was enjoyable and I'm glad I read it, the story was good and wasn't hugely far-fetched for a dystopian world, the characters were likeable and in the end Addie was loveable and funny throughout, the relationships developing throughout was good and wasn't rushed.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Darkness We Crave was actually my very first Katie May book and from the moment I finished I was hooked . A truly talented author and fantastic person , Katie has brought many books since , that I can say in all honesty are just amazing . I have never been disappointed with one of her stories and I look forward to everything she releases . She truly cements herself as an amazing storyteller with humor, action , romance and every word she writes brings joy to not just myself but readers everywhere. Her characters , in my opinion , are what set her apart from other writers . They are so unique , relatable and so well rounded that they could walk off the page . She can drag you through every happy emotion and every dark emotion in one sitting . Then when your sitting there ruined emotionally, searching for a tissue to wipe the tears she yanked out of you , your family wondering if you’ve finally lost it because they swear you were laughing then sobbing, all you will want to do is thank her for the experience!Always a five star !

I was thrilled to hear that Katie was making a box set out of this series. I read it a few years back, and it was wonderful revisiting these characters and I loved all of the bonus content.

This is a slow burn RH series set during a zombie apocalypse. The FMC Addie is absolutely hilarious despite her horrifying upbringing. I laughed often at Addie’s ridiculous ramblings and all of her quirks. The guys were all hot and each had a distinct personality, and I loved how devoted they all are to Addie.

This series has nonstop action, tons of emotion and drama, and plenty of steam in the last two books. The bonus content was amazing and I really enjoyed experiencing some of my favorite scenes from the guys’ POVs. If you are an RH reader and enjoy a slower burn and lots of action, you should give this series a shot!

3 stars… AKA It was Okay

I liked this story fine, but I found myself skimming too much to give this more than 3 stars. I think part of it was the FMC. We’re supposed to believe that school work is easy for Addie and she’s already completed bachelor level studies and is doing masters in the beginning, but then she just gets ridiculous. I think her rambles are funny, that’s not what bothers me, it bothers me that nothing she says seems intelligent when she’s supposed to be. It bothers me that she’s spent her life being sexually assaulted but somehow she knows nothing about sex. There’s just too much incongruity with her character. And too many flashbacks, all the flashbacks got old. That being said, I didn’t hate it, and I’m sure other people will love it. It’s definitely not anything I’d read again, but it was okay.

I'm a bit of a Katie May fangirl. I've read a bunch of other books by Katie and circled back to pick this one up once the box set came out. First gotta say that I am NOT a zombie fan. They're just not my jam. With that said, I enjoyed these stories. Addie's parents and all of her abuse was just a bit OTT for me. As this is dystopian, you need to suspend your belief that all of the people surrounding Addie just turn the other way as her parent's abuse her. Addie's character development feels real - in how she interacts with the guys, doubts herself, and then ultimately grows. Some of the situations she's in feel a bit forced to cement her level of badassery. The ragers and how they came about, fighting them and the overarching evil plot is pretty good.

Zombie Apocalypse for the win! Such an amazing concept for this reverse haram series. Our heroine suffers so much mental and physical abuse from different people. Yet she is still able to retain her humanity and sanity using humor and by following her sweet and good heart. She befriends and then falls in love with 7 men who will do anything to protect and rescue her. It is clear they love her more than anything, which helps them retain their humanity.

This series had some really gruesome parts, it is the zombie apocalypse after all. Between the zombies, natural disasters and the weather trying to kill you, there is so much humor. I found myself laughing with Addie and her ramblings a lot. Please take the time and read this series!

if you’re on the fence about reading these then take the jump, you won’t regret it

A slow burn kind of zombie-ish apocalypse romance. Yeah, you read that right. I went into this kind of blind, I saw RH and got it and I’m so glad I did! So, I spent the last 24 hours reading this (minus 4 hours for sleep and a couple snack breaks), I honestly couldn’t wait to see what happened next. I love Addie, you don’t often see the progression of a character this much but the author did an excellent job with Addie. I loved all the guys (I can’t do a one by one on the MMCs because I’d be writing an article instead of a review) but I have to say Calax was my absolute favorite. I’m going to go look for more books by this author now.

What a ride! incredibly amazing!

Where to start, this story stole my mind, my time and my days, I couldn’t stop reading. Wonderful characters, all so different, but all so awesome. I definitely want what Addie has, holy cow! Scary, engrossing, laughing, crying, snickering, loving all the emotions this story, all 4 books in the complete series, assaulted me with. Not going to ruin it with any further explanation, except hang onto your hat & dive in. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

dark, dystopian worthy of love

Warning this is dark and full of potential triggers.
End of the world, Child abuse and neglect, power over and control.
Are monsters born or created?
Is everyone worthy of love, even when they’re broken?
Can you learn to trust when you’ve never experienced love?

Holy Heck Katie sure can weave together multiple layers and make you fall in love, over and over and over again. Sassy, strong and sexy. You will laugh. You will cry. You will have trouble putting it down.

Awesome

Loved how I could read this on KU as a box set, I will be going and buying the series I love it that much. This was my first zombie/ war love story and so it’s taken a special place in my heart, never a bored moment and I enjoyed the sequence of events through the books and the main characters spunky character, I loved how all the characters were very quirky and the writer made me feel like I knew them.

Roller coaster ride

**WARNING! This series comes with serious trigger warming of abuse in both physical and mental form, rape, and depression.
This series takes you to the ups and downs of Addie's life. It's funny, full of angst, heartache and drama. You will fall in love with the banter between the characters and the characters themselves. It is a slow burn, but built with great characters and interesting world building.

A fantastic reverse harem story set during a zombie apocalypse

I absolutely loved Addie’s story!!! A hilarious, slightly crazy heroine with a troubled past trying to survive a zombie apocalypse with 7 slightly psychotic heroes who would do anything for her. I hope you enjoy Addie’s story as much as I did.

Apocalyptic romance

This was a good series. Plenty of humour, psychos and of course zombies! I enjoyed reading about Addie and her men, though this book isn’t as polished as some of Katie Mays later books so bear that in mind while reading. Still enjoyable though! Some great characters too.

Just Wow!

This series takes you on a journey of a girl named Adelaide. As she meets the guys she would fall in love with is taking you on a journey to find herself and courage to face a total shit show! Running from parents, crazy girls and even demented killers. Definitely recommend!

I was looking for a zombies/end of the world kind of saga and this wasn't it. I like the first book and love the MC and her harem.

But in the next books it got kind of repetitive and the over all plot leave a lot to wish. I skip a lot especially the boys chapters.

All in all, i enjoy the epilogue and the chistmas special.

Damn, that got over so fast 😄

Anyways, this was a great series. A really well written story in the post apocalyptic world. It's surprising to see how not only the zombies were introduced in this, but also a lot of climatic changes and disasters that were causing the end of the world as well.
In the end, I loved seeing how everyone lived after the apocalypse.

A little slow going for me. While there were lots of things going on, it seemed to take forever before the world fell apart. Seemed like the relationship between Addie and her men was pretty slow and really doesn’t get going until near the end of the last book.

Good

Series, it's funny but the story line is rather loose. Seven men with one woman is three too many. I like the settle feeling at the end but u don't just find a are able to settle just like that I don't think. Still, good enough.
