I enjoyed this book. I usually enjoy interesting takes on religion whether it be with modern day Messiahs, Jesus returning, or stories told in Biblical times. In that vein this story about a modern day Black Jesus and the hitman who was hired to kill him was pretty interesting. His entourage (the Twelve) was treated well with a few of them developed as there was time but others just glossed over. I think the story was generally well paced. They did walk a fine line most of the story of introducing too many characters. In general I think they were on the right side of the line. There wasn't necessarily anything ground breaking but it was a pretty entertaining read. 3 stars pretty much sums up how I feel about it. I don't think you'll be upset for reading it but it's not worth making a point to read it.

I've read this now and I'm not sure I could tell you the impetus of the story. Even though it revolves around this Christ figure, he's barely in the book. It's about the people surrounding him, all of whom are pretty awful. The main character is an assassin under contract to kill this modern day Christ. The story ends without an ending really, but the art's good and I'm curious where it goes now that it's coming out again.
