A sad little mermaid trades her voice for legs to get a stupid human prince to fall in love with her. What a crock.
That wasn't how my story went at all. That's not even how mermaids work. We can have legs whenever we want them. We just mostly choose not to because we dislike people who live on land. I never would have set foot there, but I needed to kill a druid king. Yeah, the little mermaid didn't come on land to fall in love with a prince. She went there to kill a king. There are rules. Certain waters are off limits for the land dwellers. He came to my home in a large ship and killed several of my friends. The sea council might want to let that slide, but he killed my sister, so now I have to end him.
Getting close enough to the king to kill him is going to be hard. He has three sons that could be my answer to living through this. They aren't bad for druid royalty. Two of them are kindle and gentle. The other is a little mean in a way I can appreciate. Still, I don't trust any druid. Out of all the supernatural creatures on land, they are the worst. A lot of their magic requires bits from living beings and their ethics on getting those aren't exactly sound.
I might like his sons, but this can't go anywhere. Most people tend to balk at relationships when you kill their father. I won't stop until it's done. I owe it to my sister.
USA Today Bestselling Author JB Trepagnier is secretly 30 feral cats in a trench coat and combat boots writing romance with a shared feral cat hive mind.
Initial thoughts (2/25/22): It's a smutty RH little mermaid retelling by J.B. Trepagnier exactly as expected. I'd say this is more an adaptation of the Disney version not the Andersen as there is no grandma character that shoves Christian values into the narrative. Also, my man, the epic Flounder is definitely represented by one of the characters who I love and adore. I'll explain more when I write a full review. Wait, before I move on, I enjoyed this more than Potheads: Allie and the Wicked Tea Party, which I reviewed in September 2021, but I still think I prefer the Snow White retelling as that was always my fave princess even though I understand it's problematic nature.
Review (5/15/22): As with all my recent reviews this was a while ago but I reread some parts to feel like I had enough to write for this review. By getting this book, you asked for sexy, RH Little Mermaid retelling and this definitely delivers. I love the fact that the land creatures aren’t necessarily human but druids and other magical beings. If you’ve read either, Forbidden: Snow White and the Se7en Deadly Sins or Potheads: Allie and the Wicked Tea Party, this is more like a historical novel so I think in the timeline it is before both of those books. Which I liked especially since there was a little cameo from one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
For me loving or feeling strongly about the characters is a must so let’s talk about the main characters: Kishi is a young mermaid who due to the tragic death of her sister Seira at the hands of people sent by the druid king, she vows vengeance but is not backed fully to avoid open war. It was really fun seeing Kishi & Taron adapting to life on land. This was reimiscent in a fun way of the Disney movie.
Taron lost his entire family in the attack that killed Seira. He is a shark and they protect mermaids. He’s the Flounder character and he was awesome and original. Also, I loved how his sexuality was developed throughout the book. (He is definitely not straight).
Our 3 Druid princes… I mean Kishi’s Princes. I loved them all but I definitely have a preferred Prince and I would have been okay if Taron, Beck and Kishi chose to be a threeouple.
Beck He’s so open and funny. I didn’t think I’d like him as I don’t tend to fall for rambunctious, extremely sexual type but as we follow Kishi’s perspective and how open she was about things made me like him more. Also I adored how he and Taron bonded and explored Taron’s emerging bisexuality. This was especially important for the last few chapters.
Just be warned this is a J.B. Trepagnier book, there’s a fair dose of sex, but as it the third book I hope y’all realized that .
Callum the Heir of the murderous Druid King. He is wrought with duty and is initially very concerned for Kishi/Taron and how to handle their situation. Let’s just say a key part of any Little Mermaid retelling is losing one's voice. I wasn’t a big fan at the end when a big deal was made about
Forest he’s the nice, sweet, sensitive one. I really liked him but honestly he was often overshadowed by Callum or Beck. He was basically the opposite of what the druid king wanted in a son. To me he read something similar to Salem from the first book but wasn’t ace.
To conclude, the characters were fun, I like the retelling and use of the Little Mermaid folklore without being to on the nose to the original. Overall this was a really smutty, RH read. Lastly, Taron is epic and I love the character adaptation of Flounder.
This was a very fun and adorable RH standalone. The book is very loosely based on The Little Mermaid but often reminded me of Finding Nemo randomly throughout. The beginning actually starts like a Disney film also as the heroine returns from a hunt to find her sister has been killed be poachers on a boat. Unlike a Disney film Kishi has blood on the brain and will do anything to avenge her younger sister even if it means being stuck on land forever. The world is given enough detail to set the stage and the other characters filled in gaps as necessary. It helps the story move along that almost immediately upon ‘landing’ Kishi runs into three brothers who also happen to be the evil kings heirs. With her best friend and shark along for the ride the two plan to make everyone pay who is even remotely responsible for the killings in their home. Her bestie also strikes up his own relationship with one of the brothers bringing the MM steam level to overload and make group activities that much more fun! Luckily their true goals all align and Kishi finds allies and even lovers in the guys. Much of the story focuses on Kishi adapting to life on land and her growing attraction/feelings with all the men. There’s not much outside drama and even the climax felt rather tame. After reading a few literally insane and dramatic books this was a nice change of pace and had just enough cuteness and savagery to appease my sick self 🤪
Kishi is a young mermaid who comes back from a hunt to discover her sister Seira was killed, together with an entire shark family, by people sent by the druid king. The other mermaids help her sink the ship and the people on it, but nobody wants to start a war by going openly against the druid king. Kishi, together with Taron, decide to leave the ocean and find a way to kill the druid king together. Once on land, they immediatly have to adapt to a life on two legs.
This book is a standalone RH fairytale retelling of the little mermaid, and while a lot of fairytale retellings are dark, this one has a remarkable lightness to it. I enjoyed Kishi and Taron discovering how life on land is like and especially the way they discovered the workings of bedroom activities. It has been a while since I had so much fun while reading. Although this is a single POV, the author still managed to make a decent character building of Taron and he was an absolute delight. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I won't explain what he is, but I liked the fact that he was such an original character. I also liked Kishi: she's a strong and loyal fmc who doesn't mind to speak her mind and just say whatever she thinks. And then there is Beck, and Forrest, and Callum, ... I finished this book hours ago and I'm still smiling.
This book was a true delight to read; I highly recommend it.

It’s really fun retelling. Kishi ant Taron discovering how the two-legged life is, was delightful to read. However the « journey » started because of really sinister situation it was beautiful story. Characters build is very good, I liked all of them. The plot was well constructed. Idea great. The steamy scenes, steamy as they should. This book have everything and even more to be one of bests retelling I have read.
I have a read a few fairy tale retellings for several stories such as Cinderella, Snow White, and Alice in wonderland but this is the first Little Mermaid retelling I have ever read. I know that this book has a reverse harem twist to it but even without it, I think that this book is quite fun. Given the fact that a mermaid is going to land to get rid of a problematic king, this is a fun story. Things on land are almost the exact opposite in the sea. I think Trepagnier did a lot of things deliberately to make a contrast between the land and sea and that is the fun part. I personally think that this is my favorite retelling I have read from Trepagnier because there is just so many things funny about a mermaid coming to land knowing almost nothing about the place she was going to. I read the book in a matter of hours and it was so worth it. Now I can reread the story and still enjoy it. I even did a whole book blog on it, so check that out if you want to read my full thoughts.

So intense. A twist on the little mermaid tale. Horrible murders are committed in the beginning of the story. The little mermaid sister was mutilated and all the sharks except 1 was killed. So the little mermaid and shark decide to sneak on land to kill the druid king was commanded the killings. They get lucky who they bump into and she decides into tricking them to help her in her revenge. But the more she gets to know them the more she likes them and feel bad in lying to them. It is pretty funny when they get use to being on land and doing what land dwellers do, wear clothes and mating. The druid princes are handsome, sweet and know how to cook. With the help of the princes, their sister and 3 of the 7 deadly sins they get their revenge. Though it does make the little mermaid feel better about her sister's death, only time will do that. I love the parties. This story has the best ending. What is better than revenge, is love and having a happily ever afterwards.

Mermaids are creatures that have been depicted as everything from vicious to sweet and naive (thanks Disney!). JB Trepagnier's take is a happy medium, though slightly on the vicious side. Kishi is a strong, intelligent, filter-lacking mermaid out to revenge her sister's murder. Taron, her trusty shark best friend embark on an adventure to find those responsible. Along the way, she learns that life on land isn't exactly what she had thought and ends up helping to start a revolution. As she learns, sometimes the apple does indeed fall very far from the tree (which is a good thing for Beck, Forrest and Callum).

Seira has been killed by order of the Druid King, and Kishi is determined to avenge her sister and stop further murders by killing the King. With the help of her friend Taron, and some magic, she goes on the hunt - success could mean banishment by her people, but it is a price she is willing to pay. Will she succeed? Will the three Princes help them - or kill them? When the king kidnaps a wolf pup to steal her blood, it all comes to a head - and the ending is different from what one might expect! Loved it!

Based on the little mermaid story but retold in such a way that your mind will be blown. Revenge in mind powers Kishi to go onto land and attempt to murder the druid king, who is to blame for the death of her younger sister. This was not at all what I expected and I found it to be a story of intrigue, lust, death and friendship. I liked the reverse harem romance to this though it complicates matters. This was written and planned without flaw and managed to dominate my night.

Definitely not the Little Mermaid Story from your childhood! The story starts off with a bang and keeps you entertained throughout all the twists and turns. This is an RH twisted version of a Little Mermaid filled with HOT druids and a shark! Kishi is a brash mermaid that know what she wants and isn't shy about going after it! I really loved the different guys and how the relationship builds between them and Kishi. Thank you JB Trepagnier for another amazing story!!

This story has aspects of the Little Mermaid, but it really is it’s own story. Kishi is plenty quirky (although, to be fair, horses really do look like monsters), but she’s such a warrior at heart that she could never just sit idly by and try to get a prince to kiss her. The reverse harem action is very very hot and the plot is exciting as well. Overall, quite an intriguing read.
Very much enjoyed this retelling. Kishi (mermaid) and Taron (shark) go to land after her sister and his family are murdered at the order of the Druid king. They inadvertently meet his sons, Callum, Forest, and Beck, and find out that everything is not as good as it appears to the masses. This is a fun book with all the little idiosyncrasies between land and sea dwellers. Lots of fun to be had when you aren’t used to legs lol
Wow! I was not expecting this book at all but it was an amazing surprise! This twist on the little mermaid will hook you and drag you into its depths. Kishi is a strong sassy mermaid without a filter who is out to avenge her sister. She learns very quickly things on land are completely different to what she thought. Absolutely fabulous!! I could not put this book down! Highly recommended!! 💜🖤
this is definitely a darker version of the little mermaid. I loved it. It was different than the other RH I have read this year. This mermaid is VIOLENT. There are quite a few steamy scenes. Definitely recommend this book

I love retellings of fairy tales. This one is on the little mermaid. There is a different twist on this story and i enjoyed reading it. It is definitely not like the Disney one everyone knows. Great read. I cannot wait to read more from this author.

Absolutely Fantastic. I love how it was different from the mermaid tale that most of us grew up with. I love Kishi and her energy in this book. Such a strong character. Her best friend Taron is like the silent type who sees everything.

This series is great!! I absolutely live the twists on old fairy tales and each book is unique and it includes some character cross overs from other books in the series! I absolutely love this and highly recommend if you are up for some hot romance with reverse harems!
Chasing Tail is a fantastic retelling of the fairy tale The Little Mermaid but this retelling is dark, twisted, and original. The characters are interesting and the story was not at all what I expected but it is definitely entertaining. I look forward to reading more twisted and unique fairy tales by this author in the future. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Meep meep meep! (Runs in circles) ok now that I am dizzy let's get down to the review. Why was I running in circles that is just how much I loved it because I don't run. I just fell in love with the FMC and she is mine now.
This is an awesome story I totally enjoyed Koshi and Taron’s story. A shark and a mermaid head to land for revenge.the story is so well written and the characters are wonderful. I enjoyed this so much!

This is a wonderful take on the Little Mermaid tale. I cannot wait to see if there will be more set in this world with some of the side characters. It was interesting and enthralling throughout.

J. B. takes The Little Mermaid and turns it on its ear. Taking the classic tale and twisting out all the passion and angst there can be. This ain’t no Disney tale so don’t expect any dancing, singing lobsters.
Another amazing book from JB. It started out as a bit like little mermaid then took a great twist where she doesn't have to choose between the three princes. A little stabby and a lot spicy!
This a well written, mermaid with darker themes. The story is well written and a steamy RH romance. The romance is steamy and beautiful. Overall this is a unique retelling of the Little Mermaid.
