Everyday Discernment: The Art of Cultivating Spirit-Led Leadership

Rate this book
We need a God who guides, right now, in real time, through the decisions and challenges of our lives. The apostle Paul did too. Like us, he never met the material Jesus and had to cultivate what he called a “competence” for being guided by God in the Spirit. This practice became so central to his life that he told the church in Corinth he should be remembered as a “steward of the mysteries of God.” As leaders, we can learn the art of Spirit-led discernment too. We must. In Everyday Discernment, author Gregg Chenoweth uses Scripture, a variety of resources, and a wealth of professional experience to demonstrate the key ways that Christian leaders can access the Holy Spirit’s guidance to discern God’s truth in the mysteries of everyday experience. There is no magic formula and no code to decipher―we need only a willingness to see the divine behind the ordinary and to be guided by the Holy Spirit. Everyday Discernment uses real-life examples to show how accessing and stewarding the mysteries of God is a matter of consistent faith, prayer, and habit. Each chapter closes with useful tips leaders can implement to practice living and working by the Spirit.

I really appreciated the heart and perspective presented in this book. The topic and method of attack is well laid out with good examples. Who doesn’t want the confidence to walk with the Spirits guidance on a daily basis, wherever life takes you!? My hesitation on a 5 star rating was the organization of thoughts to support a point are sometimes hard to follow. And while I like the scriptural reference and support, it sometimes felt a bit “bouncy” while reading as the number of references is quite high. I definitely recommend the book and love the premise and direction.
