Runaway #3

Quarter Miles

Rate this book
Katherine Gates has been in love with Cash Greer since the moment he saved her life from a runaway goat. According to Cash, she’s the little sister he never had, the greatest roommate in the world and his favorite coworker. They’re friends—best friends.

In the dark days of her youth, it was her friendships that kept her alive and made life in a junkyard worth living. So she’s learned to shove her feelings for Cash down deep, even if that means ignoring eyes that shine brighter than the Montana summer sun and the smile that illuminates the snowiest winter day.

Except with every passing year, the denial takes its toll on her wounded heart until one day Katherine decides to take an impulsive road trip to the Oregon coast. Alone. That is, until Cash cons his way into the passenger seat.

The farther they travel, the harder it is to pretend. And when she confesses her feelings, she learns that Cash has some secrets of his own. Secrets that will either bond them together.

Or rip them apart.

Why was letting him go so hard? Why couldn’t he love me back?

I am so in love with this series, and I am beyond head over heels for this book!

If you love a swoony and emotional friends to lovers romance with a splash of unrequited love vibes, then prepare for the book hangover to beat all book hangovers. I'm not typically a reader that gravitates towards friends to lovers romance. I much prefer the angsty vibes of a good enemies to lovers trope. But this romance made a converter out of me. I don't even have the words to describe to you all of the ways I adored everything about this story.

First of all, if you haven't started this series, you, my friend, are seriously missing out. The series focuses on a group of friends that were teenage runaways and are now finding themselves through their own journeys in a car that solidified in their past. As they pass this car from one friend to another, another journey takes place. This time, it's Katherine's turn, and she's desperate for an escape the crushing feeling of the man she's in love with see her as nothing more than his best friend. Katherine hasn't looked back since she got to the small town and built a new life for herself. The Greer's have become a family that she's always wanted. She has a successful career and everything to be happy for. Except the minor detail of being in love with the youngest Greer brother and knowing that he'll never see her as more than his best friend. Desperate for an escape, she plans to take the cadillac on a trip to hopefully move past the crushing feeling of seeing him with someone else. But then Cash insists on going with her...

My god. Y'all. I can't even begin to describe the rollercoaster of emotion this book took me on. There's so much feeling that's packed into this incredible story. Watching Cash come to realize his feelings. Watching them discover each other in a way that's so much deeper than anything they know when Katherine begins to open up to Cash about her past. Watching them push and pull from each other as they fight their feelings afraid to lose the other and the years of friendship that's bonded them. ALL OF IT. Absolutely indescribable in it's potency. I was glued to the pages. I couldn't get enough of it. Usually, insecurities like what Katherine harbored with Cash would drive me crazy. But with all of the emotion and character development that went into this, it was impossible to feel anything other than infatuated. I loved with them and I hurt with them and I rooted for them every page along the way.

This story was everything. Mesmerizing. Enchanting. Emotional. Utterly unforgettable.

An absolute must read for all the Devney Perry fans. And if you haven't read her yet, this book will hook you. Though, I totally recommend reading the series in order. I've loved every book in this series so far, but I swear, they only get better with each new book. And the set up for the next one? I'm gagging for it. Absolutely desperate. NEED.

Original thoughts

He'd better have been celibate the whole damn 12 years!!!! FFS

I KNEW better, I really really did.....smh

**********************

So the story of the runaways who once lived together in a junkyard continues, this time Kat leaves her life behind to take the Cadillac to their next friend.

Kat has made a great life for herself as the manager of a world famous resort owned by the Greer family, she's a beloved adopted family member....only she's secretly been in love with Cash for years. When Cash brings a date to family dinner Kat realizes she needs some space and time away from Cash to get over her feelings. Going on a road trip to deliver the Cadillac presents the perfect opportunity....until the man she's trying to avoid invites himself along!

********
When I saw Katherine was up next and her situation where she was suffering from unrequited love for Cash I was sure she'd go off and find another lover so I was surprised that Cash would be her love interest.
So we're told when Cash first saw her he was interested in her but by then she'd already been claimed as one of the family so he couldn't go there, now the first few years could be forgiven but they'd been roommates as well as best friends for 5 years yet he never pursued anything with her YET a road trip that lasted a couple days was enough to make him erupt into lust AND fall in love? Friends to lovers is already a hard trope for me to swallow but delivered like this it's just too unbelievable
Kat annoyed me in the beginning with her constant omg I love him, did I give myself away crap. I'd have respected her more if she'd have at least tried to move on or even took a chance with Cash, the pitiful I've loved him for years but he doesn't see me as anything other than a friend grew old quick. Aside from that her thinking that his family would choose him over her was ridiculous. They loved her and demonstrated it why couldn't she exhibit some emotional confidence somewhere in her life?I

In all fairness this book was very well written and the entire premise was new and interesting and I will read this series until it's end.... The friends to lovers trope just didn't work for me. On one hand I'm thankful that Cash wasn't a manwhore and hadn't even had sex with the woman he was dating but on the other hand it makes it hard to believe him when he reflects on the fact that he's loved Kat for so long yet didn't see it when he's been in relationships and dating all along. Five years living together didn't do it but a few days road trip did? Yeah I didn't get it.

No cheating
No OW/OM drama
No real details on the sexual history of the mcs except that he dated, she hadn't in years and he hadn't had sex with the woman he'd brought to family dinner

Still enjoying this world, but this wasn’t my favourite in the series.

I don’t mind miscommunication so much, especially if there are reasons for it and in this case there was.
But this miscommunication dragged and it was unnecessary. And even then, they still didn’t talk it out the way that they needed to. The resolve happened way too quickly.

So, instead of it reading as angsty, the characters just annoyed me.

It was a friends-to-lovers, road-trip kinda story that I needed more from.

I was so excited for this one because I really love a friends to lovers romance. This one was set up so well, but I had a really hard time actually feeling Cash's and believing he fell for Kat. She had been in love with him for literal years and he is supposed to come to an epiphany in like two days he loves her? I think I would have liked this more if we saw more of them actually together during the road trip. Instead, a lot of it was skipped over and just told to us. I would have loved to see their intimate moments and Cash falling for her. The road trip was fun, but they fell in love too fast for me, even though they had that connection as friends. Not everyone has to get married after one day of deciding to be together. I also really didn't love the secret Cash was keeping from Kat and how easily she just forgave him. So this one was a miss for me.

Well... the last book I read in the series. It was OK. Like many of other books in this series, I found the story is mild. There is some angst but very minimum.

I think Miss Perry intended this book to be journey finding home for each of the characters. I am expected much more from Miss Perry. I am bit disappointed.

I literally devoured Quarter Miles in just one sitting and just a few hours. The hype for this novel specifically was huge for me (and I'm sure for many others) and I got engaged to these characters ever since we got to know Katherine and Cash in the last book of the series. I love a good friends-to-lovers / “I’ve loved you forever” kind of romance and Devney did a brilliant job with this one. It was a great addition to the series and definitely my favorite to date!

So, Quarter Miles is the third installment in Devney’s Runaway series and if you don’t know by now, it’s focused on a group of friends that literally run away from home at a younger age and became friends while sharing a home in a junkyard. It was now time for Katherine Gates to get her turn with the red Cadillac but what she wasn’t expecting was to have company. Cash Greer is her best friend and the man she has loved in silence for many, many years. She needs this escape, she needs distance from him and from Montana but she is not getting it. Instead, Cash starts seeing his Kat with new eyes and the road trip turns into an emotional love story.

This trip. This fucking trip.
It was going to ruin us.

Gah! I just freaking knew it. I had the craziest of expectations for this book and I got exactly what I wanted. Who was just as impatient for Katherine and Cash’s story? ‘Cause I was sure ecstatic when Devney said she was moving the release date lol I fell in love with these two in Wild Highway because I am a sucker for storylines like this one especially if it’s about a friend loving another one for years and one of them being oblivious to those feelings. I knew Quarter Miles would be all about the emotional roller coaster of finally Cash noticing what was right in front of him.

“No matter what you say, no matter where you came from, you’ll always be my Kat.”

I just loved these two together. I loved Katherine from the start, she is a kickass businesswoman, a woman with a past that’s still hurting her but she is strong thanks to everything she has achieved and the support she has had from her family: the Greers. Even if it takes a while for her to realize it, she clearly belongs with them and with Cash. Cash was just as wonderful. I loved seeing his layers peeling off, seeing him realizing Kat’s love for him and his love for her. They were great together, their moments full of tension and all the feels. The chemistry was just beautiful!

“I just... I can’t run from this.” From my home. From my family. From him.

Therefore, I am rating Quarter Miles with 5 STARS, because, as I said, this book totally reached the crazy expectations I had for it. I loved how Devney developed this long friendship to a stunning love story. I loved Katherine and Cash and their connection. I loved the Greer family. I loved Aria, getting to know her and I am now surely excited to read her story next. I am just loving this Runaway series and I hope people will continue loving it too!

“Don’t go,” he pleaded. “Stay with me. Lean on me. I swear, I won’t let you fall.”

I only read two books in 2021 and this was one of them... and I rated it 5 stars. But I didn't remember a single thing about it. Good for me because it was like I was reading it for the first time again and it was GREAT 😩

The angst was just as good as the previous book, if not better. Unrequited love is always a win for me, especially if it's been yearssss of pining. This book was about Katherine, whom we met in Wild Highway. The last time we met Kat, she was heartbroken after realizing that Cash might not see her the way she wanted him to. So she decided to go on an impulsive road trip alone.

Except Cash wouldn't have it and asked to come along.

“Cash Greer was a good man. He loved working with horses. He loved his family. He loved this ranch. He just didn’t love me.”

Man, the tension. The trip was meant for Kat to let go of Cash and see what's out there. Except it was hard to do with Cash sitting next to her, obviously. And Cash was finally realizing a lot of things on this trip and it was fantastic watching him go through the motions of realizing how deep his feelings for Kat were, how scared he was of losing her. His hesitation made sense to me, it was frustrating but also realistic considering their circumstances.

“The spark wasn’t just a flicker, it was a wildfire that might destroy us both, leaving nothing but ash and destruction in its wake.

As for Kat, even though she'd been pining for Cash for years, she didn't act like a lovesick puppy. She kept her distance from him and her running away might frustrate a lot of people but I was like YEAH GIRL make him sweat.

“I was losing her.
My gut screamed that I was losing her.”

Was the drama at the end more dramatic than it needed to be? Yes. Did I care? Not even a little bit. It was angsty and romantic and exactly what I needed in my romance 🤭 I also loved the found family vibe in this SO much. Kat's backstory was so sad and I was so glad she found the Greer family. They treated her like their own, even though sometimes Kat still felt like the outsider, the guest. It was not her being ungrateful, just her wanting to really belong. And after knowing how she grew up, I couldn't fault her at all.

“We love you,” she repeated. “No matter what happens with you and Cash, we all love you.”

UGHHHHH that made me cry so much lol. Exactly what I wanted Kat to hear and it was soooo heartwarming to read about.

And the epilogue was sweet too, and got me intrigued to read Aria's story!! Great series so far 🥰 (Even though I skipped Londyn's book whoops)

“But Kat wasn’t only my friend. She wasn’t only my best friend. She was mine.”

Buckle up y'all - Katherine and Cash are about to take you to angst city!

What a ride! As usual, I was hooked immediately - already primed for and emotionally invested in Katherine and Cash's story, I was so anxious to see how their friends-to-lovers story was going to play out. This was so compulsively readable - it moved quickly and I genuinely loved these flawed but lovable characters and their fumbling, sometimes painful journey to love.

While I did love this story, I didn't always feel the connection to Katherine and Cash that I was craving. I think that maybe I would have liked to have spent more time with them as they actually fell in love. I felt like a lot of time was spent watching them grapple with and fight against what they were feeling, but there was no time to appreciate the moments that made them fall in love - as most of that took place in the past and so was told, and not shown. I feel like getting to be a part of some of those moments would have helped me feel that deeper connection to Katherine and Cash's decidedly turbulent story.

That said - the ending was exactly what my sappy little romance loving heart wanted. Worth every moment spent wanting to give them a good push or knock their heads together. Sweet, adorable, and joyous. The best.

I'm loving this series so hard, and I am already dying for Aria's story. I've said it before - the concept of this series is just genius, and the execution has been so much fun to read. If you haven't joined in on the adventures yet - there's no time like the present! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

Is there nothing better than taking a long ride, windows down, radio blaring to help clear your head? I honestly can’t think of one. It’s a perfect opportunity to be alone with your thoughts to help you get over something, or over someone. Key word here—alone.

Taking a long drive is just what Katherine needs. Desperately. She’s not taken a proper vacation in . . . ever. She spends her days working—filling her time with innocuous tasks, trying to convince herself she’s happy and fulfilled. And trying to figure out a way to get over her unrequited feelings for Cash Greer. He’s her best friend. And she’s considered a member of his family. She will not risk losing her “family” if her feelings aren’t returned.

And, oh boy, does Cash have feelings. He’s been fighting his own feelings for Katherine too. They were buried, and now as they embark on their crazy journey, those feelings are rising to the top. And they’re not going to be kept secret anymore. And that’s when things really get interesting between these two.

I loved the idea of the road trip—and that they were essentially stuck with each other without anyone or anything to buffer them. And that’s just what was needed to get them to finally admit what was happening between them. It was painful to read sometimes—I wanted to hug them and smack them at the same time when they both fought the truth.

But in the end—and what an ending—I adored just where Katherine and Cash ended up. Together. In love. And ready to take on the world. And I can’t wait to see what the next road trip brings with Aria. It’s going to be a doozy, I think! ~ Missy, 4 stars

„Stay with me. Lean on me. I swear, I won’t let you fall.”

Obsessed with this series! I simply love it so much.

Kat and Cash: best friends - to - lovers - romance. This was done well by ms Perry. Usually I find it very unbelievable that all of the sudden one of the them realizes what he/she had in front of her all along and BANG love is here. But here I think Cash suppressed his feelings for Kat for the reasons he himself is talking about and simply ignored them. He wasn't fully celibate for all the years they've known eachother but he hasn't slept with the woman he brought to dinner in the second book.

Kat has some traumas and issues from her childhood, it comes hard for her to open up to people, but this trip they've done together definitely showed both of them lots of new things they didn't knew about eachother.

This series is captivating , emotional and full of surprises. Aria, the heroine of the next book its a very intriguing character from what i've learned here, can;t wait to discover her.

Quarter Miles, the third book in the Runaway series. It was a brilliant addition to what I consider an awesome series. Going in, I knew this would be an enjoyable read, but I never thought it could top the previous books. Devney Perry has now been officially added to my must read author’s list.

This installment brings us Cash and Kat’s story, whom the reader met in the previous book. Cash Greer grew up in a wealthy and loving family. Kat came to work for them at eighteen years of age and since then, they have treated her as one of their own. Throughout this time, she slowly fell in love with Cash. Unfortunately, it appears she would forever be in the friend zone. So when Gemma suggested she deliver the Cadillac on her behalf, she never hesitated as it would give her a chance to clear her head and hopefully get over her feelings for Cash. However, the one thing she did not count on was the object of her affection accompanying her on journey.

The reader learns of Kat’s past and the reason she became a runaway. Her situation left a poor taste in my mouth and my heart wept for her. No child should ever have to go through such an experience. I admired her resilience. She achieved a lot since finding her way to the Greer’s, but she yearned for love and family to call her own.

Cash was a caring, funny and an overall awesome guy. He had always cared for Kat, but he failed to recognize that what he felt for her went beyond friendship. Watching him recognize how he truly felt about her was a delightful experience.

I had a marvellous time with the development of the romance, which was sweet, passionate and angsty. I have to admit though, there were a few times when I found their actions frustrating. I just wanted to knock some sense into them. Their stubbornness, refusal to communicate, fear of destroying their friendship and failure to see what was before their eyes proved a hindrance to them finding their way to each other.

This story dealt with some heart breaking issues, but the author balanced it out with a few humorous moments.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Quarter Miles is a heartfelt friend to lovers romance which took the reader on a journey of love and healing.

“Stay with me. Lean on me. I swear, I won’t let you fall.”

Characters
Cash (30, will run the horse breeding/training portion of the Greer ranch once construction is completed):
The following words/phrases were used to describe Cash: tenacious, persistent, good horseman, cheerful, smiles often, stubborn, gentle, patient

Some quotes about Cash:
“Cash Greer was a good man. He loved working with horses. He loved his family. He loved this ranch.”

“Ultimately, how we ran the facility was my decision. But I wanted to let my family feel comfortable expressing their point of view. I valued their experience and input, even when it was overwhelming.”

Katherine (30, General Manager of the Greer family's luxury ranch resort):
The following words/phrases were used to describe Katherine: strong, tough, funny, smart, magnificent

Something to know about Kat:
- She has had a crush on Cash for the past 12 years. ”Cash had been my friend, and only my friend, for twelve years. We’d met early on in my career at the resort, when I’d been a housekeeper and living in the staff quarters. He’d come home from college for spring break and the two of us had hit it off over our mutual love for Mountain Dew. In all those years, he’d never once flirted. He’d never once asked me out or led me on.This ridiculous and epic crush was entirely one-sided.”

Some quotes about Kat:
“I hadn’t left Montana since the day I’d arrived. As a fresh-faced and eager eighteen-year-old, I’d found safety here. A home. I’d rarely left the Greer Ranch and Mountain Resort, let alone the state”

“I hadn’t grown up in a dreamy, suburban home with a white picket fence and a goldendoodle named Rover. My youth had been a nightmare. At sixteen, I’d run away from home to live in a junkyard with five other teenagers who’d each survived nightmares of their own”

“Self-preservation was something I’d learned early on. It had taken me a long time to break the habits from my childhood. I shut down and shut people out when I didn’t feel safe.”

The Story:
Six teenage kids (Karson, Londyn, Gemma, Katherine, Aria & Clara) ran away from home and ended up at a junkyard living in cars (a Cadillac) and tents. Bonds formed, but ultimately they went different directions.
There will be six books in the series (at least I’m assuming so) where each kid will get their well deserved HEA.
Here's a recap so far:
Book 1: Londyn took a road trip to return the restored Cadillac to Karson, but got sidetracked along the way and fell in love
Book 2: Gemma picked up where Londyn left off with the intent to get the Cadillac to Karson. But she took a detour and fell in love

Book 3: This is Katherine's story and she picks up where Gemma left off and takes the Cadillac on a road trip to escape her broken heart. Her plan is to take the Cadillac to Aria in Oregon, get away for a couple weeks, leave the car with Aria so she can take it to Karson in California and then head back to the Greer ranch in Montana to resume her old life.

The problem.....Katherine loves the Greer family and particularly Cash Greer, who unfortunately views her as his best friend/roommate. When Cash brings a date to a family dinner, reality slaps Kat in the face and she realizes it’s time to admit this unrequited love will break her unless she deals with it. If she can’t accept the truth of the situation and let go of her feelings for Cash, she might need to leave the ranch and then she would end up losing the only family she has ever known.

My Thoughts:
The following are my thoughts about this book:
- Grandma's always say what your heart needs to hear. ❤️ "We love you. You are a part of our family, whether you live and work here or not. But you need to get away from here. Breathe. Think. Let him go.”
- Devney Perry always does a good job of recapping previous books in a concise manner that still provides enough detail. By chapter 2 I was all caught up on the previous books.
- Poor Kat. Unrequited love is so heartbreaking. In this case, Cash clearly had Kat squarely in the friend zone at the beginning of the book. Cash: “She let me tease her and wasn’t afraid to throw it back. She listened without judgment. I’d take her friendship any day over a lousy lay and relationship drama.”
- I didn’t like how Kat badgered Cash to admit that he was mad at Easton about the horse facility and how he wasn’t included in that decision. Why was she bent on making Cash admit he was upset? I felt like was fine with the decision and she was just trying to stir up trouble. This really irritated me. 😡 “What do you want me to do about it, Kat? Get into it with Easton? He’s already fighting Dad and Granddad on the management stuff. I’m trying to tread lightly and just get the goddamn project done. Why does it matter when at the end of the day, I want to work with horses? This will make that happen.”
- Friends to lovers is not my favorite trope, so keep that in mind when reading the next comment.....
- When Cash first met Katherine he had been “warned away” from her because his mother & grandmother had already made her part of the family. Even though he was attracted to her, he put her in the friend zone. 12 years later and she is still squarely in the friend zone (and they have actually been roommates for the last 5 years). So, it just seemed a bit unbelievable that after living alone with her for 5 years as friends that a little road trip and a couple days away from the family ranch could so drastically change their dynamic Not sure I really bought into the friends to lovers connection.
- I didn’t really feel like I knew Cash. I felt the story was mostly about trying to uncover Kat’s background and the time that she lived in the junkyard and what drove her there. So, I felt like Cash took a back seat in the story and sadly I didn’t really learn much about him. ☹️
- It’s a pretty short book, so doesn’t take long to read
- the writing is good and what I would expect from this author
- Having said above, I’m a little disappointed in the plot. Miscommunication and not talking about feelings is so cliche. Ugh. And, Although I love Devney Perry I'm sad to say that all her stories are starting to feel the same. I really liked the premise of this series, but the over arching concept in each book has been the same thing over and over and over. The circumstances of the romance have been slightly different (first book they were strangers, 2nd book was second chance, this book was friends to lovers) but beyond that, all the other aspects of the story have been the same. They hide their true feelings and then comes a miscommunication / misunderstanding and someone runs away or starts to leave but then at the last minute they declare their love and live happily ever after. Rinse, wash, repeat. I'm disappointed that one of my favorite authors keeps turning out the same story with predictable plots. I’ll continue with the series, but unfortunately I feel like I already know what will happen in the rest of the books. ☹️

Overall:
- Do you need to read previous books in series?: Katherine was introduced in book 2 as the manager of the Greer resort and I think it would be beneficial to read the prior book to understand Katherine a little better. Do you have to? No. Each love story is standalone. However, there is a small connecting thread between the books that enhances the story.
- POV: dual POV
- Tropes: unrequited love, friends to lovers
- H likable? Yes
- h likable? Yes
- h virgin? no
- First time they kiss: 43%
- First time they sleep together: 46%
- steamy? in some places
- OW/OM drama? no
- H/h cheat? not once they actually sleep together. However, let’s keep in mind that Katherine has been pining over him for 12 years. I’m guessing they both slept with others during the past 12 years even though nothing was mentioned.
- Did I skip pages? No
- Big secrets? Cash had a big secret that came out of left field and was revealed at 80%. The reader did not know about the secret and found out at the same time as Katherine.
- Did I cry? no
- Did I laugh? no
- Cliffhanger? no
- HEA? yes
- Epilogue? 5 months later
- Recommend? good writing/predictable plot.....you choose

Quotes

“Kat had done what she’d had to do at too young an age to make the best of a shitty situation. She was good at finding the bright side. Whenever we watched a bad movie, she’d spout three things she liked about it during the credits.”

“Living with Cash was easy. Comfortable. We talked every morning over coffee and cereal. We ate dinner together each night. He was my best friend. My confidant. My companion.”

“Lean on me. I swear I won’t let you fall.”

Quarter Miles is the third book in the Runaway Series by Devney Perry and whilst you could read them as standalone, your experience of each main character’s story is better enjoyed by reading them in order. In each book, you garner a little insight into the lives and hardships each of these women have gone through and how spectacularly they turned their lives around and how they eventually discover themselves, and in the process, love.

“You’re in love with him.”
“I’m in love with him…. I don’t think I’ve ever admitted that out loud.”

Quarter Miles was a nice easy friends to lovers, unrequited love romance with moments of angst, drama, sweetness and passion and when we say easy, that’s no disrespect to the author as it takes a lot of creative sparks to make something appear so effortless. The aspect of each main character throughout the series being responsible for heading off on a road trip to return the prized Cadillac to its rightful owner is a beautiful metaphor for the stories.

Katherine (Kat) Gates didn’t have a great start to adulthood – deprived of the love of a mother and forced onto the streets at only 16, Kat and her fellow runaways had to learn on their feet how to survive, and with each other, they managed the unfathomable, they not only survived, they prospered.

Katherine fell on her feet when she landed a job at the Greer’s ranch in Clear River, Montana. Enveloped into the Greer fold, she worked her way up into her current role of General Manager of their successful holiday ranch. Not only that, but her best friend and roomie, is the Greer’s younger son, Cash. After twelve years of being best friends, Kat’s realises her feelings have morphed into more, yet feels utterly friend-zoned by Cash.

‘Why was letting him go so hard? Why couldn’t he love me back?’

Cash does not like the idea of Kat taking the road trip and decides to join her – much to Kat’s annoyance. However little did they both realise just what a journey of discovery it would be. There were moments we swooned, the first hint of passion quite literally stole our breath away – the drama was equally amusing, engaging and frustrating haha!

‘And then Cash, my best friend, kissed me.’

We cannot wait for the rest of this series – what will happen when that Cadillac finally reaches its destination? We’re not sure but we can’t wait to experience the journey’s along the way! Next up, we are going to dive head first into Forsaken Trail!

I loved every mile of this journey I took with Kat and Cash in the Cadillac.

I took my time reading this, I did not want the road trip to end.

I have read all of Devney's book and she can still surprise me as I had no clue what the secret Cash was hiding from Kat or his family was about.

I am super excited for the next book in the Runaway series Forsaken Trail, Aria and Brody's story, the blurb WOW my kind of story.

Quarter Miles is such a deep and raw story, Devney Perry's most emotional book yet!

I don't know what it is about the friends-to-lovers trope mixed with unrequited feelings that makes my heart and soul weep! But, at last, it's that good, bone deep hurt with a promise of a rainbow at the end that I love; and Quarter Miles depicted this beautifully.

I have to say this series has been Devney's most fun! Each book focuses on a different Junkyard Kid, runaway teenagers who lived in a junkyard in California. Now, they've set out to find themselves, passing along the Red Cadillac, which holds such a great significance to each former runaway's journey.

Katherine Gate's past is painful and it hurts for her to relive it, so she has never told her best friend Cash Greer. She's resilent, a true fighter. When she opens up, you can tell how deep the scars go. But, being in close proximity with Cash has made her life in Montana extremely challenging as deep in her heart she harbors not so friendly feelings for her dearest friend. Willing to fight to keep her friendship intact, Katherine suppresses her feelings for Cash.

This story packed a punch of emotion, yet it was equally sexy and just as sweet. I couldn't get enough of Kat and Cash!! Their chemistry together was undeniable no matter how much they tried to hide their feelings.

Quarter Miles is an unforgettable read that you need in your fictional life! This series is addicting; and I cannot wait for Aria's book next!!

I started this book a little worried by the premise, but I should have known to trust Devney Perry with the unrequited love trope. Even though he doesn't understand the depth of his feelings, from the start of Quarter Miles, Cash's number one priority is Katherine. And as soon as they go on their road trip, she is constantly keeping her space while he chases her. Even if she "fell first," his love is abundant and clearly reciprocated. Overall, this was a really cute romance, and like with the last book, I like how Katherine's past was taken seriously. I've really enjoyed my back-to-back read of Wild Highway and Quarter Miles. The series as a whole has a nice setup, but these two books pair together perfectly.

The Daisy Chain of Love rolls on the highway yet again in this third episode of Temecula Kids Adventures. It's a storm of emotions trapped in a car, that rolls from the pages, right through your heart, leaving indelible tread marks.
"It was a beautiful day outside, bright and clear. But the storm brewing inside the car was as black as midnight."
Katherine Gates needs to put some distance between her heart and its nemesis, Cash Greer and he needs to companion her on this journey.
She's at the crossroads of her stagnant life and has to make a tough choice between staying and watching her heart deflate with every smile of cash or go find her own HEA

description

""Why did it feel like I’d just been kicked out? Why did it feel like I’d just been given an ultimatum? Get over Cash or go somewhere he’s not."
Devney writes this Romance travelogue on a road of soul-search with so many feels, I was teary eyed and frustrated no end. Central theme being A woman's desire to nest playing tug of war with her craving to fit in her adoptive family. It's poignantly etched in this vividly emotional tale of Unrequited love. The setting is bursting with colors of nature, rolling hills of Montana to crashing waves on the Oregon beach and all the motel stops in between.

description

"Eight hundred and thirty-one miles of space, to be exact. That was how far it was to Heron Beach, Oregon, from Clear River, Montana."
Cash and Kat are on opposite sides of the relationship spectrum at the start of the journey and many breathlessly passionate encounters later, are still an inconclusive mess of sentiments, as the Red Cadillac Convertible reaches its intended destination. Matters of the heart aren't an easily decipherable puzzle and this couldn't be more obvious between this fated-unfated couple. With the entire Greer clan between them, and then some, it takes a fake mountain Lion to get the ball rolling
I've immensely enjoyed this series so far, eagerly anticipating the next book with childlike enthusiasm. Only my tongue hanging out at the drool worthy, lickable men devney conjures up, is very very Adult!!!!

“Why was letting him go so hard? Why couldn’t he love me back?”

So much of romance is about desire, about yearning to be loved and wanted, but there is something tragically beautiful, and utterly gripping to me, about tales of a love that is not returned. The achy, melancholy heartbreak of loving someone who would never love you back, only to discover that that love is not as one-sided as it appears, is perfect fodder for the romantic in all of us, and Devney Perry does the unrequited love trope justice with the story of two best friends who find themselves on a road trip of a lifetime—one desperately trying to exorcise her feelings for the only man she’s ever loved, and the other finally coming to terms with the way he’s always felt for his best friend. Full of sexual tension and angst, and even a touch of family drama, this book is really about a woman who’s learning not to run from her fears, and that’s a message that we all need to hear.

4 Kat and Cash Stars

I am completely sold on this series. I love Devney Perry's style of writing. Her words and descriptions are so pretty and the way she writes her characters hooks me in every time. There is just the right amount of angst and always plenty of romance to keep this reader very happy.

This is the third book in the series but can easily be read as a standalone. It follows on from Runaway Road (Londyn and Brooks) and Wild Highway (Gemma and Easton). This is Kat and Cash's story. Kat has worked at the Greer Resort for over a decade and the whole time she has been in love with Cash Greer. They are best friends but when Kat realises that Cash may never see her as anything but a friend she plans a break away from him and her job. However, Cash hitches a ride with her and as the miles pass, they grow closer and long held secrets come to light.

Both Kat and Cash are really likeable. There are fantastic secondary characters and lots of humour and sexy times to balance out what are the darker themes in the backstory.

I'm looking forward to reading Aria's story next in Forsaken Trail.

This is book 3 in the Runaway Road series and this is a friends to lovers romance!

Katherine is planning on leaving Montana to get away from her roommate and best friend Cash. She is convinced that Cash doesn’t feel the same way as she does. She’s planning on taking the Cadillac to Oregon to see Aria. Well Cash isn’t letting her go by herself.

This has the one bed trope, forced proximity, road trip romance!

Ok ok this one was really good too! But ugh Katherine really got on my nerves sometimes, specially towards the end of the book. She really wanted a certain outcome but when push came to shove she pushed people away, turned her back on them and did not freaking communicate ugh. I am getting so tired of plots where the main issue is lack of communication man. Just talk and be honest with each other, over half your problems would get fixed if you just did that!! It's so frustrating.

4.5 Heads or Tails Stars!!

This series is enchanting. I love Devneys little touched that make the story come alive, like flipping a coin to determine their destination. I could see where some people can find this kitschy, but I found it adorable. I loved that their story happens after Gemma found Kat and Kat was going after Aria. So many scenes and quotes to highlight, I kinda went crazy. I just love friends to lovers and this was a great one.

Quarter Miles was an amazing friends to lovers story! From the second I picked it up I was hooked! It flowed so well and I was instantly caught up in the emotion and history of Katherine and Cash’s lives. This was an excellent addition to the Runaway series!

I loved Katherine and Cash. I really liked learning about them and the amazing friendship they have formed over the years. I felt so much for Katherine and the position she was with how she was feeling. I adored Cash, he was so sweet. I loved them traveling together on the road as feelings build and come to life and the conflict they’re dealing with because of those feelings. I loved the build to it all and how it explodes into so much passion. The back and forth between them as they fight what they’re feeling was fantastic. There's tension, drama, playfulness, and heat. I also felt this raw and real emotion that had me choking up.

This was a beautiful story that was so engaging. It was fast-paced but full of great details that pulled me in. I loved the build to finding out Katherine's heartbreaking past, as well as Cash figuring out his feelings and them coming together. It was intense, emotional, and passionate but it also had this light, entertaining feel so I never felt overly stressed. I had a great time reading it and getting lost in their lives.

I love the details I learned about the Junkyard and the other people that were there with Katherine when they were young. Aria was wonderful to meet, she seems like such a fun spirit and I’m looking forward to her story next. Each book really adds an extra special layer to everyone’s lives and I love them all reconnecting.

Bottom line, I thought this was a wonderful story. It flew through it, loving the characters and was rooting for them to get to their HEA. Devney Perry is an excellent storyteller! I can't say enough good things, it just filled me up and made my heart happy. This was a must-read!

„Stay with me. Lean on me. I swear, I won’t let you fall.”

As soon as I finished reading the previous book in this series, Wild Highway, I was instantly excited for Quarter Miles! I just knew that it’s gonna be a great friends to lovers story and Devney Perry delivered so much more! My gosh, Cash and Kat's story is incredible. So heartfelt and full of feels! I was drawn into this journey from the very first page and I literally felt like a passenger in that iconic Cadillac.

I adore Kat. Although she had a tragic childhood and her start into adulthood was tough, this woman showed with her stubbornness and diligence how much can be achieved if one wants to. She has a big heart made of gold and her strength is awe-inspiring. What she lacks in size she makes up for with her character - she's a feisty little thing and I loved when she showed her spunk.

Cash is a walking definition of a good man. He’s caring, loving and protective. He’s also funny and persistent. I loved that he was careful and tender with Kat and that he knew when to push. Even though sometimes he was completely blind, he loved this woman and cared for her with all his heart. He always wanted the best for her and her friendship was precious to him.

I just adore that their relantionship evolved from a deep, sincere and long-lasting friendship that gave them a solid foundation to create something special. Although it took them a long time to find the courage to admit their feelings, Cash and Kat showed that neither length of the journey nor the turns on the way are able to stop them from reaching their destination. And when they unleashed the pent-up desire I swear I could feel my Kindle overhearting!

Quarter Miles is a wonderful story that made my heart burst at its seams. It made me smile, laugh and swoon. It’s a perfect addition to the Runaway series and I cannot wait to experience the next journey! And is it just me, or there’s someone else who can’t wait to meet Karson? Lol!

Road Trip To Love One Flip At A Time

I am ready for a road trip!!! The author inspires wanderlust and the desire to see everyone in the junkyard family get their own HEA.

We met Kat in Wild Highway and I couldn’t wait for her story. She’s the manager at the lodge and honorary family member of the Greer family. She arrived at eighteen and has been in Montana ever since. Now she’s ready for a road trip. She needs time away from her best friend, Cash. They are roommates and colleagues, but he’s also the man she has pined for for years. It’s finally time for her to let go and move on. No better way than to hit the road.

Gemma, Kat’s friend from the junkyard, was supposed to deliver the Cadillac Londyn had restored to California. However, Londyon ended up staying in West Virginia when she met the love of her life. Gemma took over and she made it as far as Montana, but she got sidetracked when she fell in love with Easton. Now it’s up to Kat to take it west. She’s in search of Aria who lives out in Oregon. She wants to catch up with her old friend she hasn’t seen in twelve years, when she left for Montana. The timing is perfect since she needs to escape her life.

Kat’s plan of a solo journey is quickly derailed when Cash decides to come along. Getting over him just became that much harder. Kat’s struggling to let him go. Cash is determined to hold on. He thought Kat has always been his best friend, but the open road has opened his eyes.

This friend to lovers romance brings the angst and inner turmoil both characters wrestle with as they come to terms with their feelings. A friendship so cherished that neither wants to risk it. However, living without the other just isn’t an option. Mutual respect and love were the perfect foundation. Their relationship built over time. The love was there, they just hadn’t embraced it. These two were perfect together and their love was sweet. Cash cowboyed up when he needed to and got the girl...SWOON ALERT!!! And any guy that does sweet things “just because” is a keeper.

This series is a journey of self discovery, healing and love. I have enjoyed every story and am eager for more. A MUST READ series that I highly recommend.
