Zombie Road VIII: Crossroads of Chaos

Rate this book
His hands knew how to fight. His fingers knew the ways of war.Gunny, Griz and the crew have one more mission south of the border, the Traveler is looking to right some wrongs and Jessie is trapped in a faraway place. The undead hordes are as vicious as ever and a simple rescue mission gets real complicated real quick.

An orphaned girl, a community on an island, a hunt for a goat and the Mona Lisa help the jaded Traveler find his place in a world that isn’t his.

While Jessie waits for Scarlet to heal, his mysterious protector may be more human than anyone thought.

This is the final two-fisted, gas guzzling, gear grinding thrill ride of the Zombie Road saga. More tales to come but this concludes the story that started with the Convoy of Carnage.

3.5 stars. I’m torn on this one. There are two separate books here - a zombie one and a sci-fi one. I applaud that the author tried to do something different but I wanted more zombie. It took several days to read this one when others in the series, I got through in a day. As soon as Gunny and Griz got on a train, I whizzed through the story (these two are my favourites) but Jessie/Maddie, I plodded. It’s a shame because if these two stories had been separate books, I think I would have loved both. It’s just that together, each story wasn’t enough (let’s be honest, I wanted more Gunny, Griz and the gang).

I loved the start of the series a lot and the spinoff series of Feral Children. But was not a fan of the outer space twist in the plot. To me it made no sense. So I mostly skipped thru the parts of Jessie in space and read about the people on Earth. It was just a very unsatisfying read to what could have been such a great ending to the series without the outer space.

I really wanted to know more of what was going on in the walled communities like Lakota and the other places. I wasnt really into the whole outer space thing at all.

Ok Ending

I absolutely loved the first 6 books but when there started being 2 Jessie's it got a little confusing. I really didn't care for all of the outer space sci-fi aspect of the story. I will say that David totally amazed me with all of the technical knowledge he added to the story even if I didn't know exactly what he was talking about! I truly don't know how he came up with some of that stuff. If it had much less outer space vibe I would've enjoyed it more. David's writing techniques are impeccable though.

I keep going back and forth on how to rate this. I love it, but I hate it. Or parts of it.

The first few books were probably the best zombie series yet. And then time travel was introduced and I was angry at Simpson. And then it was handled so well I loved the books again. This time he added space opera and I was angry. But again, he did it so well that I loved it and forgave again.

I wish the story had stuck with Gunny and the original storyline, now I'm not even sure which reality is true and which ones aren't thanks to all of the time travel. In fact, I'm not even sure if I'm in the correct reality anymore. Did Jessie screw something up on my timeline too?

On the other hand, things were wrapped up pretty well. We know what happened to Gunny, we know what happened to Jessie, and the fate of The Traveler is handled satisfactorily. If we have to have time travel and space travel mixed in with our zombie travel, it couldn't have been done any better.

Awls I can say is wow. You never knew from book one what was coming.

Awls I can say is wow. A great cast of characters a spectacular storyline and an adventure that just keeps on giving. You would never guess after reading book one where this series was going to go in what was going to happen. In the last book or so you might’ve started getting an inkling of some things but the final book just breeze at full circle and expands it to an entire universe.
I cannot really tell you much about what is going on in the story because it would give spoilers away. I can tell you that it will answer a lot of questions probably create a few more but like all the rest it is one action packed zombie filled adventure through time and space and a millennia. You will just start going well and holy crap and wow some more by the time you I will into the book and by the time you finish it. It also opens up so many more avenues for side stories with peripheral characters and even some other standalone stories with some of the main characters. It is a Biblia a gold mine of stories and possibilities to come. At least we can all hope it is. Read on and be amazed and keep your fingers crossed that more stories will come from this universe of characters.

Awesome, as expected and wished on for years!!!

Thank you David Simpson, not only for book eight and the entire series but, for the possibility of a book nine!! Hopefully, which you are currently working on, feverishly ;-)

If you haven't read books 1-7, be especially kind to yourself and begin right away. Many of the characters from this incredible apocalyptic/dystopian universe have a special place in my heart. Beginning book 8 was like continuing a long and beloved story that I put down (wanting more) just yesterday instead of years ago. Author David A. Simpson takes us to places and times both wondrous and fascinating with his amazing imagination.

The ride is over or is it?

Wow, I started this journey some time ago and have enjoyed it immensely. The story goes from strength to strength with each book. The characters are larger than life and this book brings it to a suitable end. No bows or ribbons, can't wait for the off shoots and to see what happens next in this fantastic world. Thank you for these stories of zombie road. Catch ya on the flip flop.

The story morphs from zombies to science fiction, and romance. Jesse’s journey through time, well all of hims. Fighting space aliens, zombies, and himself. It’s a well-structured tale that comes to a conclusion… or not. It contains of action throughout the story. It brings secrets and explanation to the future, or futures. Love hurts and can take you to extreme limits. Follow the tale, you won’t be disappointed.

If it had to end, this is how it should end

I have throughly enjoyed this whole series. David Simpson did an amazing job of weaving in a tale of zombies, space travel, and a slew of endearing characters throughout this whole series. I love the way Jessie became a central character and we got to follow his journey into a legend they told stories about. I have to say this book did a great job of bringing this part of the series to a close and all is well in my heart 😁

Finally, what appears to be an actual ending to this series. I have to admit, this one felt like the story had gone off the rails from where we began with this series. But the author did manage to tie up the loose ends in a way that I believe would satisfy most fans. For me? This was a wonky story, and ended my interest in pursuing this series, and I’m glad it’s done, as I wouldn’t be reading more. It just was too much.

Zombie Road Vlll

As with all the other Zombie Road books David Simpson keeps you enthralled till the end and leaves you anticipating the next chapter. Sadly Mr Simpson ties all the loose ends and delivers a satisfying conclusion. I throughly enjoyed the series and hope He continues writing.

Excellent Tale

This was such a great book. I loved reading about Jessie and is travels after rescuing Scarlet. How many lives he touched and changes. The SciFi story was entertaining and impossible to put down. The ending was best of two worlds literally and gave Jessie an ending he totally deserved it a new beginning. My favorite of the series.

What more could you want? You gotta read the other books but it's a great series and I can't wait to see if there's going to be a ninth book.

Perfect

This story brings together both of Jessie's lives. It is so cool to find out how all of the things from the last book came to be. It is a very rich take full of adventure, action, love, and loss. You need to read this one.

Is this really the end?

I really hope this isn't the last book in the series. I feel like Jessie and Maddy deserve a future together. And who doesn't want to see what happens next. I will certainly buy another book.

This was a really good book and an absolutely great read.
It's sad to think this was the last book in the series but it was an amazing story which I thoroughly enjoyed and I look forward to reading some of the spin off series (especially The Feral Children!!).

Great Story, Highly Recommended.

Action filled, thought provoking, lots of 'what if?'s, different themes like Sci Fi, Horror, Suspence, Drama, Love And Loss, End Of The World As We Know It, and more. Interesting characters, a little bit of something for most.

No don't end!

As with every book in this series, I didn't want it to end. There is always room for one more, but I guess all good things must come to an end.
