Jessa walked away from the Blackwood Pack when she failed to deliver on her end of a contract she signed with them. But she fears that the ironclad nondisclosure agreement she signed won't allow her to get far. There's only one person she thinks might be able to help her, except he's notoriously unhelpful and leads a gang of shifters that could be just as dangerous as the one she wants to leave.
And now there's this new hottie she wants to sink her teeth into distracting her...
Fresh from an out of town trip that led to yet another friend's mating, Calder has returned home with a grumpy and dissatisfied bear. That is until he meets one dazzling human goddess on his morning bakery run. With curves for miles and an obvious love for chocolate frosted cupcakes, he's sure he has met his match.
Until he finds out she already belongs to Luke Blackwood and his boss, Bhric has made her strictly off limits.

Jessa had a contract with the Blackwood pack to be a surrogate to a child for them. But when it came down to it, she couldn't conceive, so seeing that her usefulness was at an end to them and helped by Simon, she escaped to the neutral zone. Here she meets Calder, who instantly knows that Jessa is his mate...but she's human and somehow she knows about shifters. Once Jessa has talked to Bhric, the leader, Calder is put on protection duty, since he believes that Jessa is at risk from the Blackwood pack, but Bhric is clearly keeping more secrets. Jessa and Calder fall more and more in love, but when Niki and her baby Hannah shows up and Calder falls all over himself for the little cub, Jessa realizes that she can't give Calder what he needs - a family. Now she's tempted to run, but the Blackwood pack is still after here and Bhric and the Comyn pack may have been keeping secrets.
This was slightly better in the plot department. It held itself together pretty nicely since Jessa was trying to escape and she found Bhric to tell him what was going on. I liked the suspense as Bhric communicates on the phone with someone (we don't know who) and it's clear that he's up to something and Jessa is an unwitting part of it. The issue with Jessa and her inability to give Calder babies made for some decent angst, especially since Jessa was ready to run and what not. I wanted it to be more drawn out actually. Then of course there was the Blackwood pack coming after Jessa which added a bit more action, especially once Calder goes all grizzly on their asses.
As for the negatives, there's very little UST here - even though Bhric (an alpha) tells Calder it's hands off with Jessa, presumably for good reasons, he completely disregards and has sex with her. And Bhric doesn't care, so I'm not sure why he bothered. I also wondered if Jessa's own inhibitions about jumping into a mating relationship would slow things down and draw out the UST, but she changed her mind in a snap...actually seemed like she forgot all her reservations about sex with Calder. My biggest complaint had to do with Niki's majorly out of character move. When Calder leaves Jessa with Niki, she is in major bodyguard mode...won't let Jessa out of her sight and blocks her leaving at every turn. But then suddenly, when Niki realizes she forgot her baby's stuffed animal, she allows Jessa to go back to her cabin alone and orders one person to follow her. This after she claimed it would be so humiliating to admit to Calder that she lost Jessa on her watch (after Jessa wanted to run). It just seemed so wildly out of character for gung-ho protective Niki to suddenly say, "Sure, take the SUV back to the cabin all by your lonesome to retrieve my infant daughter's stuffed sloth." She never seemed the type to trust her job to someone else. And asking someone who hasn't proven themselves to follow Jessa from a distance is not the same as person-to-person protection...especially when she knows the entire Blackwood pack is out to get Jessa. Didn't feel right for her character at all. Other than that, this was still an enjoyable read and I do like Calder quite a lot. Not sure I'm gonna like Bhric's story, but I'm game.

The overarching plot thickens as we get ready for the big conclusion! Bears are the bet, and Calder is all bear. Love dhow he does what he wants, while still being fierce and protective, and so happy he found the perfect mate
I had stepped away from this author a while ago. Seeing her in Kindle Unlimited, I decided to continue what started off as the Black Cougar Trilogy many years ago. The last two books I have read are recycled stories from other Kindle World Series, so I am loath to pick up more but I always wanted to know what happened to Calder after he left Greer with his mate. Unfortunately I am not impressed with this book. I enjoyed Jessa and Calder as a couple, though a lot more honest communication all the way through would have been nice. But we get the TSTL act of leaving somewhere safe and going off on her own. I don’t know why authors write heroines who act like stupid idiots. The background story is still dragging out and why are the disgusting Blackwood Pack not just wiped out? Read through Kindle Unlimited.
3.5 stars. Some of the shifters are desperate (and dangerous) in their attempts to solve their infertility problem. Jessa signed up to help but can't fulfill the contract. She heads to Deals Gap where she's told she'll be welcomed. Almost immediately she runs into Calder a bear shifter. He's struck mute by her presence which she mistakes for arrogance. When he learns she needs protection, he makes clear no one else will protect her but him. When the Blackwood pack comes looking for her, Calder backed up by his adopted clan step in to protect her. Along the way there's plenty of action Southern Shifter style - hot and heavy. Several of the characters from earlier books also make appearances.
Bear Naked Truth is book 7 of Eliza Gayle's Southern Shifters series. We finally get more on of favorite grizzly Calder. Lord know Calder deserves to have an amazing mate and Jessa fulfills that to a tea. The larger storyline also progressed quite a bit in this book. With the twist and turns and the suspense that unfolds the Southern Shifters become even more loveable. I can't wait to she what's next.
Jessa has to run away from a surrogacy contract with a wolf pack. Unknowingly to Jessa, there's a doctor who is not a member of the wolf pack and who does his best to ensure Jessa doesn't get pregnant. When she runs to the bear clan recommended by the doctor, she immediately sees this hot bear shifter named Calder, who happens to love sweets like she does. Their attraction is immediate although Calder fights it. Lots of action and steam with a happy ending.
This world is so much fun, each story tells you about a mating pair but also expands the overall story running in the background. We have two people with broken pasts that find each other and begin to heal and we have another piece of the puzzle that is Deals Gap.
This is a tight story with a great plot and wonderful characters. It's part of a series but I just jumped in here and understood it fine. It has good pacing but it could have been edited a little deeper. Jesse and her bear are a good match and the other supporting characters are also completely enjoyable.
I'm ready for them to do something about the Blackwood pack already. I was hoping Simon would find a mate soon or Sienna and Jessa would get pregnant. I'm glad Calder got to Jessa before they could rough her up.
Bear Naked Truth is a suspenseful, twisted, emotional story that you won't want to miss! I highly suggest reading this series from the beginning. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and terrific author.
Although each story is a standalone love story, the underlying plot carries throughout each story, leaving little nuggets. Calder as bad action as he is, is so cute with Hannah.
I really enjoyed book 7 in this series watching Caulder and Jessa travel their very rocky road to finding their HEA. I'm looking forward to reading book 8 in this series to see what happens to the next couple. I will definitely recommend this book to everyone.
Eliza did a fantastic job of making you feel the emotions of these characters come through the page. Calder and Jessa and the rest of the gang make for a great red.
I had been waiting for this book since Calder and Nikki became friends in the 1st book of this series. It was well worth the wait. What a great character, and she created the perfect mate for him in Jesse. Now I'm on tenderhooks waiting on Bharic's story. If you haven't read any books in this series yet, all of them are filled with action, great heroes and heroines, stunningly loyal love, and hot scenes. Try one and you'll be hooked too on this imaginative world of supernaturals.
From book one-I have been hooked. Following all the books-discovering new authors who have contributed to this series ( most I am now currently following)- to waiting for the next, has been exciting serious all around. Highly recommend
Love this addition to series. Hot alpha bear, human woman knows more about shifters than she should. Fast paced, well developed story and characters,a new twist thrown in storyline. Love how people from past books are in each book. Looking forward to Bhric book. Only problem is book was too short.
