When a woman disappears in a swamp, Silence Jones goes looking for her.

He finds a vast conspiracy.

A little basic, but not too bad.

A enjoyable read

It was a mystery that was easy to read and had the returnable main characters of the previous novels. I will continue reading this author.

If you like your stories with a bit of grit and vast amounts of action along with plenty of mystery and secret organizations, the second book in the “Silence Jones Acton Thrillers” series by Erik Carter may be just the thing for you to have a listen to. “Hush Hush” is the next book in the series, and I can only give kudos to Gary Bennett for the wonderful narration and bringing Silence Jones, along with the other characters, to life. The story takes place a bit after the first book, and I would recommend you listen to them in their respective order to better understand the earlier events. The audiobook grabs your attention right from the start and does not let up until the end. What a thrill ride. I would recommend giving this one a listen as well as the first.

Much like the first audiobook in the series, this one continues with what makes the series great while also giving the listener some extras just to turn up the intensity some. The author’s writing style has not changed as I found the descriptive writing still a bit more than I would have desired, but the scenes and conflict do not disappoint. One feels like they are sitting and watching a movie as you listen. I found the opening chapter a great hook and I listened to much of it in a single sitting. Even with this great arc of a story, there are additional side events keeping one interested even more. There are plenty of twists and turns along the path with the covert operations and even more detail giving us a better view into it. Like the first audiobook, this one also has a feeling of noir genre elements.

The characters are dimensional and strong. Each seems to belong and has a purpose. I like that we get to see into some of the characters more in this audiobook so there is a building of attachment to them. I also found that Silence not being invincible kept me wondering if he would survive to the end of the book. I was always wondering if this would be the last of our hero, but he always seemed to find a smart way out of his predicaments. I also found in this book Silence Jones spoke more than he did in the previous one. However, when he did speak it was direct and precise. He was a man of few words but would often simply say “Drive!” when needing to get out of a tight situation. As rough as he is, he is also a character that cares for others and has compassion. Seems very hard on the outside, but inside he cares.

I cannot say enough about Gary Bennett’s audiobook narrations, and this book is no different. Mr. Bennett is a gem to listen to and his ability to voice the characters with drive and determination is beyond what many other narrators can do. His voicing is dynamic and each character he voices I can get a clear visualization of them, even across series. Great job. Regarding this audiobook, the audio is clear and lacks any noticeable audio issues and the voicing remained constant across the two books I have listened to so far.

For parents and younger listeners, note that this book is graphic and contains mature topics such as prostitution and drugs. The characters use a fair amount of profanity as well as some severe scenes of violence. If this is not your type of content, I suggest you give another audiobook a listen as this is really designed for mature listeners.

In summary, I liked the second audiobook just a bit better than the first. There seemed to be more focus on the characters and a bit less upon the scenes of action. I feel I was able to get a better understanding of the characters and saw some of their vulnerabilities. Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of action and revenge payback, but this audiobook seemed more polished from the first when it comes to the characters. I also have to say that Mr. Bennett’s narration keeps me coming back for more. Thank you both for an entertaining listen.

Silence Jones is a man of few words, thanks to an injury that makes speech painful, but that doesn’t stop him from seeking justice. Carter hooked me from the start as a young woman flees into the alligator infested swamps as danger follows her.

Jones is asked to take on the case by the woman’s husband. He needs answers. He believes she is dead, but her father isn’t willing to pursue it. It’s a complicated case, as Jones soon discovers. Amber is the daughter of a retired and powerful/crooked cop. Silence learned she was investigating a criminal group that runs the city.

Twist, turns, confessions and Jones’ signature investigative skills made for an interesting case that held me captive. Silence finds himself in danger, but fearless and ruthlessly roots out the culprits.

I loved the side threads of Jones’ life, like his neighbor and the cat. Even though he is an anti-hero and works outside of the law, Silence has his own rules and you can’t help but appreciate him. I have a feeling if we shared coffee, he’d sit there silently while I confessed all my darkest secrets.

Fans of suspenseful thrillers will love this series. I recommend listening to the audiobooks. Gary Bennett has captured Silence Jones from his mannerisms to scratchy voice. We spend time in Silence’s head and Bennett brings him to life. His pacing and tone enhance this fast-paced, engaging thriller. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Great story!! Had me guessing the whole time.

Did not see some of it coming! Surprises surprises. I really really want to make a certain comment here but cannot because you want to read it for yourself and my comment would spoil it. Sorry. I will give hint: relationship and not the one you are thinking. Intrigued? Go read it!!!

Now I had a unique opportunity! I had books one and two in this new series by Carter. I choose to read this book first. Reason was to see if a person picking up this book and author for first time, could follow the story. Before I forget nice job on the cover, really loving it.

Anyways, back to the answer if the book could be picked up and read without having read the first one (which is usually said yo be standalone), the answer is a definitely YES.

There is even enough clues to make you want to go back and see what happen to create Silence Jones (the main character). I know I will even if I did not have the copy already. I want the nitty gritty details of what happened.

Great new series. Cannot wait for more. Watch out for the rabbit trails.

This my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

This book is a natural follow-up to "The Suppressor" book #1.
Silence (Si) becomes the man , the machine, the vengeance of the dead and of the ignored.
"Si" is brought into someone missing. Alive or dead. A life that is being quietly being swept under the rug by her parent.
The woman's husband seems to be the only one who believes that there is something unfinished about his loss and that there is a story that needs to be investigated and resolved.
"Si" is tasked to find out if this is truly a sad story of a run-away wife or a story of a death being ignored and forgotten too fast.
This is a must read book that brings the "Suppressor" or "Silence" into his own. Into the skin he now inhabits and the lives he must revenge.
"Si", has many sides of this new man that need to be investigated and understood. Many levels of old and new need to be blended.
Again, a must read second book in a hopeful series to come!

Fast pace exciting follow up to the suppressor a new series from Erik Carter. The 1st book is how Silence Jones became who he is and in this book 2 now's the time to earn your living as an assassin. Starts off a young married couple wife who goes missing and is the daughter of a top police officer retired is he really not that bothered about finding her but the husband is, which one has secrets to hide? Where did she go she was on her way home and is her father that not bothered about where she is, she did have problems health-wise with cerebral palsy which any father/husband would worry about so along comes Silence Jones now he has to divide the wheat from the chaff, who's hiding what? he knows it stinks but who to believe.
Explosive new series and it just gets better, and you actually see 2 sides of Silence Jones. Good penmanship exciting and ruthless. I received an ARC copy and this is a true and honest review.

This is the second book in the new Silence Jones series. The first book gave us the background to how Jake Rowe became Silence Jones and the quest for revenge dominated that book.

In this second one, Silence is tasked to investigate a missing woman when the only one who seems to think she has not run away is her husband. Things change suddenly when her body is found and it's a clear case of murder.

This story was even better than the 1st one. Easy to read, loads of action, and a quite astonishing ending as the murderer is revealed.

I like the ongoing interaction with Si and his blind neighbour in what is a welcome bit of light relief. I really hope book 3 doesn't take too long to be published.

Silence Jones has a fearsome reputation now! When a handicapped newly wed is missing and the cops and her father are quick to call off the search Silence knows something isn’t right! When he discovers she was investigating a corrupt police station where her dad use to work he knows he needs to find out what she did to figure out who needs killing because someone definitely does especially when her body is found.
I’m really loving this new series! Silence is a lovable assassin. He only kills those that need killing. I love him and his little old lady neighbor and her cat! I love all the action and seeing justice being served! The author is a master! The original plots and twists and turns are fantastic! I highly recommend this book and this new series!

Hush Hush is a powerful follow-up book after "The Suppressor"
You see the many sides of Silence Jones. The assassin with the Demon voice, able to fight and deal with the evil in this world, the kindness shown to his old blind lady neighbour and her cat who loves to curl up on his knee.
He is sent to help a newly married young man find his missing wife.
So many twists and turns in this fast paced storyline will keep you on the end of your seat right from the start.I

Excellent action thriller
Fast paced story with plenty of twists. Our hero is highly trained but is still in a bit of a learning curve with his new job, working with an elite group called The Watchers. Finding out who the killer is, then taking care of the problem is the task at hand. A great plot and the writing flows well, there is a bit of back and forth with timelines, that does help with understanding some back story. This is a book that you will not want to put down and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Highly recommend. I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.

Good story, but....

Good story, but I think Carter was doing it with tongue in cheek. At one point his analogies were awful, his writing seemed like he was stealing descriptions from a bunch of young teenagers.
Silence is sent on a case to help find a missing woman named Amber. But she is dead before he even gets to her hometown. Her father, a crooked ex-cop has convinced everyone but Amber’s husband that she has run away to escape her cheating spouse. Once her body is discovered, Silence wants to avenge her. He is a miracle man, even though having been beaten severely twice in an hour, he manages to win the day.

A Woman Was Kidnapped-Is She Dead Or Alive?

Amber Lund, a new bride with a problem, is returning from a counseling session when she disappears. Her husband is in despair when he is contacted by Brett, otherwise known as Silence Jones, who offers help. Brett is dogged in digging up and following seemingly dead-end paths as they gradually uncover the truth.

In this second book of the Silence Jones series, we learn more of his ability and how he uses the teachings drilled into him during his training. It’s another awesome book by Erik Carter that kept me reading well past my bedtime. Don’t miss this one!

Well written, well paced, well structured, suspenseful, and action packed. A thoroughly satisfying installment of this outstanding series.

Despite the brevity of the novel and the significant action/suspense elements, Erik Carter finds time and tone to explore and humanize his characters and create vivid environments. It's not all break-neck speed, instead paced with quiet precision to make the entire listen a pleasure.

The book within the book was a clever touch.

Gary Bennett's narration hits the feel of the novel just right, as always.

Purchased Book 3 immediately upon finishing Book 2.

With enough will, the future is always changeable.
Silence Jones is already a legend; all he says is “Talk!” I was seeing corpses, from the first page, reading on, heart in mouth. I enjoyed the link to a childhood book and also learning more about the empathic side of the vigilante assassin, who has some bizarre skills.

Hush Hush

The story was well written and really made a person think! At the same time it held your attention and kept your interest the whole time. There are parts that are totally sad and you wish that they were not the way the story went, but as the current favorite saying is “ it is what it is “.

Silence Jones is one tough assassin. The man needed to reinvent himself after incomprehensible tragedy. He is asked to solve the disappearance of a missing woman. There are so many twists and turns making Silence's harder to solve. Gary's voice has the deep gravelly sound that is perfect fir the character.

Silence comes through in the end.

Every Silence Jones book has some things in common. The bad guy always loses, and Si is going to get his ass kicked, but all in all an interesting book..

Entertaining

An enjoyable & easy read. Crooked is the name of the game. Abuse of the power granted to those who are supposed to care & provide for our safety. Sadly, an all to common occurrence.

The Good Vigilante

Life happened. And then he made choices. Part detective, part bloodhound, he resolved the situations that the police couldn’t handle. He resolved them with a vengeance. Peace he found in his off hours - outside of his ‘job’.
