Rome
Shadowseer #4
By Morgan Rice
The story continues as the family continues to Rome with the aunt. The teens are excited about getting information about their family and why they were left in an orphanage and separated. Rome ends up with surprises.

A quick and easy young adult novel in a geographical jumping series of mild occult. We add and discover even more characters in this installment. This sister split to different cities on the quest. The story takes one sister to Florence an Venice while the other goes directly to Rome.

My feeling of with this episode is that the author Morgan Rice took advantage of teaching moment opportunity to describe the people, culture, geography, and customs of Rome in Italy. She may have actually visited these cities in her personal travels.

In the previous volumes of Paris and Munich, Morgan Rice only took some trouble to briefly describe the Paris architecture and the culture. In Munich episode she whisks us away to a Bavarian castle with only a brief glimpse of the Munich cathedral. In the opening episode, London, we do get a small sense of the city in the 19th century viewed from a carriage window.

Hats off again to Kevin Green as the Narrator of this series. His voice inflections and vocal characterizations of the entire cast make this an outstanding audio book and a pleasant listen.

I was given an ARC of this story and I thought it was enjoyable.

This story continues the journey of Kaia, Em, Olivia and Inspector Pinsley, now in Rome in pursuit of a relic that should stop the Shadows for good.

There’s plenty of action as usual as they move through Rome. There is also the mystery of an aunt and murders to solve, while old acquaintances appear.

I like Kaia, who always tries to do the right thing and has a kind heart. Em has a darker personality, while Pinsley and his daughter, Olivia, maintain a strong and determined stance.

I don’t like the thugs, of course, or the idiot in charge in London, but it’s always good to have more than one villain – and in Rome, there are dozens, and that’s not counting the Shadows.

The writing style is great – fast-paced and easy to follow.

I don’t like to give spoilers but I will say that overall, this is a pleasurable adventure, with suspense, mystery and plenty of action.

Recommended.

Excellent, just as wonderfully thrilling as the other Shadowseer books. I got swept back up in Kaia’s and Inspector Pinsley’s adventures. This book ended in almost a cliffhanger, so I’ve already pre-ordered book 5. As with the other books in the series, I really enjoyed being able to look up actual sights on the Internet, such as the bridge of sighs. It helps me imagine being there with Kaia and her friends.

Hooked

Absolutely mesmerized by this series! History, fantasy, paranormal, & mystery genres marry to create a series that I can't put down. I so enjoy that each novel is set in a different city. I find myself drawn into the differences & similarities of each city and enjoy imagining my self there with the growing team of people fighting the shadows. The characters are likeable & relatable.

Another fast-paced, exciting installment of the Shadowseer series. I cannot say much without spoiling the story, but one thing I can say is that it was good to not see Kaia put in dangerous situation after dangerous situation without thinking on the characters’ parts. I listened to the audiobook. Kevin Green did another great job. I enjoyed his characterizations a lot. Overall, I enjoyed the book very much, and am looking forward to Shadowseer: Athens.

Morgan Rice has an amazing imagination for paranormal action. This next book in the Shadowseer series continues the adventures of Kaia, Em, Olivia, and the inspector as they pursue their quest to defeat the Shadows in Rome. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary. Anyone who loves action and intrigue will enjoy this book!
