Tessa Daniels finally has it all figured out. Her magic shop is booming, and she’s found love with the lead Detective of the Royal Agency, Derrick Chambers. Sure, her magic’s still a little faulty, but she hasn’t turned anyone into a mouse or started a plague in ages, and her mixed up spells are all part of her charm.
Until Derrick takes her home to the countryside to meet his parents.
He promises a romantic holiday, but the cozy escape is plagued with strange accidents, mysterious guests, and exposed secrets. Tessa is convinced there’s a mystery to solve, and when a snowstorm strands everyone inside the manor, they discover they’re trapped with a killer.
First one murder.
Then two.
It was supposed to be the perfect fairy tale ending, but meeting the parents may end up costing Tessa her life.
Author of paranormal romance with a fairytale twist. I'm currently writing a spin-off to the Ever Dark, Ever Deadly series that will release spring of 2025.
I also write paranormal rom-coms with the third book in the Witching You series coming out November 2025!
As a reader, I enjoy all things romance, especially paranormal and fantasy. My all-time favorite series is the Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole. I also binge mysteries and thrillers, the spookier the better!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Safe to say this book was an absolute delight to read and I enjoyed every minute of it!! The writing and world building alone was absolutely stunning. I ADORED the main character Tessa and her boyfriend Derrick. She had me laughing more often than not, which was a big welcome and brightened my spirits after a rocky start this week.
It does serve well as a standalone, but I think in order to fully enjoy the full effect of Tessa and Derrick’s relationship I’d suggest reading their novel Spellbound After Midnight. I know I definitely plan to just to learn more of Tessa’s past and how her magic came about.
If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted read over the holidays with a happy dose of magic and Knives Out vibes I suggest you give this book a shot and read it.
I was undecided whether to give this 3 or 4 stars so I’ve settled on 3.5 rounded up to 4.
I really loved being back with Tessa and Derrick and I would say what this done well was give them a good rounded off ending. In saying that, it did almost feel like a filler book.
I feel this could have done with some more depth to the plot and made a bit longer. I didn’t have enough time to settle in before things started happening and then suddenly everything was resolved. This made for a fun quick read however, so this wasn’t necessarily bad.
The story was interesting, and I enjoyed seeing Tessa get involved in investigating the case by herself. I really liked Edward.
I did have a good time, and I am so excited for the next book because I really enjoy Collett’s writing.
I love everything about the books in this series .I don't get bored with the characters or the storylines , I find them amusing & it's fun to guess which fairy tale character has been reinvented into a new story & role please keep them coming .
Another amazing read! For being shorter it still packed a punch and kept me on my toes!! So my questions and twists!! I cried then I was happy (seems to be a theme haha) Can't wait to start book 4 next!!
More murder, mystery and magic with Derrick and Tessa. This is a quick read that feels like an extended epilogue for the couple. A must read if you have read the other books.

Witch Tessa Daniels and Detective Derrick Chambers met in Spellbound After Midnight (book 1) and fell in love. Now Tessa meet-the-parents during the Holidays is quickly turning into a game of Clue🔎.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
Words cannot describe how much I love Stranded And Spellbound! Maybe it's because I love Tessa a little too much so having a second book dedicated to her makes me extremely happy. But I also just adore the whole "vacation for the holidays to meet the boyfriend's family" concept - not to mention I must admit that I fall head over heels for stories taking place in mansions.
Well, this has both of those...with some fun murder mystery thrown into the mix! This time, the victims aren't strangers. They're people Tessa gets to know right inside the walls of Fairwood Manor (gorgeous name, I know!)
Stranded And Spellbound never drags. Every page was exciting. Every description was beautiful. Every character was different. There's even a character who I secretly wished would be murdered the whole way through the book. Because meeting the boyfriend's family isn't stressful enough, Tessa has to deal with some blunt dislike that a couple of Derrick's family members and family friends direct toward her. She just never gets a break, does she? That's something that makes her admirable. She never gives up. She still has that fiery spirit from the first book! Still has that sass!
One thing I found particularly intriguing was how we get to see this family side of Derrick. He was all business in Spellbound After Midnight and we never really delved into his personal life, so this book really helped me to have a better picture of who Derrick is underneath all those layers of clever, tough, mysterious, Detective Chambers.
All in all, this third book is such a fun, clever read! Not only is Tessa's narrative as humorous as ever, but when loved ones are the people caught up in the middle of murders and not strangers, you've got to admit it makes everything extra interesting. Makes you hold your breath just a little longer because you don't know if the next person who died was somebody you were rooting for or not.
Thank you, Jenna, for this treasure! You never cease to amaze me!
One thing I love about @jennacollete’s books is they never ever disappoint. And I loved how in her newest novel Stranded and Spellbound we are reunited with 2 of my favorite characters Tessa and Derrick.⠀ ⠀ Tessa and Derrick are 2 characters we got introduced to in Spellbound after Midnight. Now, I feel like you could still read this story without reading the first one. But then you would be missing out on a reading another great book. And I think you would miss out on that initial contact with these characters.⠀ ⠀ You see in the first book these characters couldn’t be more different if you tried. Derrick is a rule follower to the T. And he takes O.C.D to a whole new level. Now, Tessa(bless her little heart) is a hot mess. Poor girl has good intentions but you begin to wonder who allowed her to practice spells. And when Derrick decides to bring her home for the holidays to meet the family. You know it’s going to take a miracle for them to survive.⠀ ⠀ Not only is meeting parents nerve racking. Derricks parents are rich and prissy with a prejudice against witches. Not only is the poor girl working hard for their approval, she also has to watch her back because someone is trying to kill her . So, she screwed up on making minced meat pie. I don’t think you should kill a person over it. Send them to cooking classes.⠀ ⠀ This book has plenty of laughs and plenty of suspense. Reminds me of when I was a kid playing Clue. Always trying to be the first one to figure out who the killer was. This is definitely a 5 star read. There’s 2 other books and they are available on KU too. So, ai hope you will give this series some love.
This series has quite quickly become one of my favorites. It's set in a fairytale world, there are mentions of loads of fairytale characters, once in a while there are some really clever nods to original fairy tales and yet the story is new, fresh and original. Since this was a novella, it was perfect to read during a busy weekend.
What I absolutely loved about this novella is the tension. The first half of the book was amazingly well written and at the same time horrible to read. We knew that our heroine had seen and heard certain things, but it's really scary when people are constantly doubting her, contradicting her and giving her the feeling she's going insane.
Like all the previous books in the series this one is also loosely based on a fairytale. In this case it's Snow White. And despite the fact that this is actually a brand new fairytale the author does manage to include loads of familiar elements. The hunter, the poisoned apple, the magical hair comb and of course the jealousy.
I also quite liked the finale of this book and how things were solved. Partly because our heroes were once more amazing together. Tessa might be one of my favorite heroines of all time. She's honest, she's chaotic, she's pure and therefore she's insanely real. Despite her messing up at times it's therefore not hard to believe that someone would love her this much.
As always Jenna did a phenomenal job with these two!! Tessa & Derrick are always quite the duo, so how can we not love them when there holiday getaway turns... well deadly lol!
Derrick has seriously grown on me in this series! I remember reading the originals & being like "ugh, I guess he's perfect for her but so stuffy & grumpy".... well I guess he hasn't changed too much lol! Joking, but the man has become a charmer! And with a heavy dose of overprotective-ness, how can we not swoon over him? And Tessa, who doesn't love our favorite, clumpsy...I mean insightful witch!? (But also clumpsy)
Throughout the books I love seeing them grow closer! And this book has the perfect mix of caring & comical with a bit of every witches insecurities and... well maybe less of the hazards, but to each there own lol! Seriously good read for anyone who likes a little romance & laughs with there mystery! You know...Mistletoe & Murder?!

Return to Tessa and Derrick's lives ~ this is set before the epilogue at the end of Wolfish Charms ....
I love her writing through out the books 📚 and how the characters interconnect and books hint at plot points for other stories...
As well, her writing makes me feel like I was living this alongside side the characters (watching a movie in my mind)...
It has the same mystery we all fell in live with, in book 1 ...
Some of my fav pages & pages which had me staring at the book in shock 😨:
❄️ page 13 - umm excuse me 😳 ❄️ page 14 - I wish this was dual pov ❄️ page 15 & 16 - I love Derricks Grandad (Edward) ❄️ page 41 - it reminds me of Aurous birthday cake 🎂 ❄️ page 51 - it's giving me princess 👸 & the pea 🫛 vibes ✨️ ❄️ pags 95 - gave me goosebumps and the chills ❄️ page 167 - tessa has me chackling ❄️ page 182 - so cute
The plot was nearly as intriguing as the last two works in the series. I love how it built up from small accidents to murder, but then the resolution seemed to be a bit rushed.
As much as I love Tessa, I think her silly charm was lacking in this book, and I really missed that.
Other characters seemed a bit drained too – I think I was supposed to like Edward the way I liked Hastings in Wolfish Charms, but it didn't come to that point. He was funny, but something was missing, as well as with others.
I think there could've been more time dedicated to the plot and characters; it was indeed shorted than the first two books.
Of course, the magic and the fairy tales didn't miss, it was really fun to see new powers and new twisted fairy tale plots. That, combined with another murder mystery, made this book really enjoyable and easy to read.
3.5⭐️ While this was probably my least favorite of the series so far, I’m glad we got a continuation of Tessa and Derrick’s story. It never felt quite finished after the first two books. I was interested to see how the murder mystery all came together at the end and it kept me guessing until the end. At times it felt like there were too many things happening to feel believable but it also kept the suspense going. Edward, the grandfather, was my favorite character in the book! We all need a gramps like him in our lives. Humorous, joyful, down to earth, with loving acceptance.
This was a great one day read full of the fairy takes, murder, and magic I always love about Collett's books with a hint of Christmas energy. I'd missed Tessa with all her little quirks and Derrick's antics. Although Edward was my favorite new character and the family itself was intriguing if angering. The representation of different fairy tales in unique ways always keeps me invested, and I cannot wait for her next book!
Snow White is the absolute worst, but I loved catching up with Tessa and Derrick. I've always loved seeing what comes after the happily ever after so seeing that with them and meeting the family and their plans was great. Sassy Tessa might just be my favorite Tessa, though I do wish she'd had more time with the mother or Derrick's family beyond Edward. I did love Edward, though! As always, another fun mix of murder and fairy tales.
STRANDED AND SPELLBOUND brings us back to Tessa and Derrick and I liked seeing them again but I didn't really enjoy the plot for this one. It made me sad that Derrick's mother was being so mean to Tessa, especially because Tessa didn't have any family of her own. Also, I felt like they were both different characters from their original book; Tessa was missing all her spunk and Derrick was being way too controlling.
This was ok. I preferred the first 2. I didn’t mind the Snow White inspiration but it didn’t feel like the stakes were all that high in this. Initially it seemed like someone was specifically targeting Tessa, but then it seemed like suddenly the story shifted to a bigger picture mystery and there wasn’t enough story dedicated to building that mystery and solving it. I will continue reading though.
This book was absolutely as glorious as the two before it. It was shorter, but packed to the brim with twists and turns and swoon worthy moments.
I loved seeing Derrick and Tessa back in action and the way their relationship unfolded. The banter, the swoon, the protectiveness. Sigh. The twist ending almost broke my heart, but thankfully we got a happily ever after… because let me tell you, I would have rioted.
Going back to Tessa and Derrick's story was perfection! I'm so glad everything worked out well for both of them. I was getting so frustrated with Derrick and him not defending Tessa and allowing Isabelle to be around him. I think he should have stepped up more, but Tessa handled everything beautifully. I'm so happy that, while the rest of his family was awful to her, Edward was amazing. He really helped her out and made her trip much better. He's honestly my favorite character.
Stranded and Spellbound by Jenna Collett is an amazing story that I have read. This is book number three out of four in this amazing series that I just can not get enough of. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about mysteries, romantic comedy, fantasy and paranormal romance.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
DNF for now. I'm not interested in the way his mother is treating Tessa, and I don't want to read about how she "wins them over." I don't really think they can come back from "I invited another woman here, and I'm planning her wedding to my son while you're standing right there". But who knows? Maybe I'll be in the mood for it some other time
Meeting the parents while trapped inside a snowbound house with a murderer. Derrick travels to his family home intending to introduce Tessa to his parents. Jealousy, murder, and a snowstorm all interrupt that. A murderer in a dark cloak, and someone wielding magic other than Tessa, keep this a fast moving story.
Derrick takes Tessa to meet his family. Unfortunately, the only one who takes an immediate liking to her is his grandfather. She makes it her mission to make his mother like her. When a house maid is killed, will Texas's skills be enough to change the tides?
4.5 it was so good I was really happy to dive back in the world and be with them again. The murder mystery was complete there was no way we could see who it was and made the suspense even better. Our two lovers were so cute I was scared once the romance established it will not as good as the first book but it wasn’t like that at all. I really love this series !
When Derrick takes Tessa home to meet his family things go from bad to worse. It was frustrating to see her struggle so. Her life is threatened multiple times and his mother has a bias against witches. Not to mention the fact that she invited family friends to stay also. It is an adventure for sure. Derrick's grandfather was a delight and I enjoyed his relationship with Tessa.
It was lovely getting back to Tessa and Derrick's story. I loved the grandfather, but felt so bad for Tessa throughout. I loved the ending, it was really quirky and sweet. I have to admit, I did guess the villain early on, but there were a few bits that threw me throughout and made me second guess myself. Another enjoyable read from the author and look forward to her next book.
I thoroughly enjoyed their continuation of their love story. Some of the characters were very despicable, some very likeable. It is a well rounded murder mystery.
This is the 3rd book in the Ever Dark, Ever Deadly series. It follows Tessa & Derrick from book #1. Of course, there is murder, mystery, magic, and shapeshifters all while the witch and detective try to share their relationship with the family. It's a good read.
I love the world and characters that the author has woven into this series so far. She strikes the perfect balance of intrigue vs. cosy cottage core, and I hope to read many more books with the same seamless blend.
