I downloaded the light novel for entertainment while I traveled. For some context, I read the webtoon around last year (I think) in one night by not sleeping. Actually, I think I fell asleep and when I woke up I finished reading it. So when I saw the light novel some months ago I thought it would be a good idea to read it and I was rightttt. I'm shocked to learn that this novel received a rookie award, because I did not realize that they were considered a "rookie". In the novel that I downloaded, it included the author's notes that dated to when they were writing it in real time. Some notes of doubting whether it was interesting or not. By the end of the story, I saw that this wasn't their first light novel, but that this whole story started off as a fun game with a friend which they started to take more seriously. I love that.
The plot is so wonderfully made, and that's something that I always appreciate since it can't be said for all stories. There is a lot of context and nuance that is made compact in this book, you really get to understand all of the characters and even have empathy for situations you couldn't ever imagine.
About the writing, I won't say it's the best prose but I'm pretty sure it's because light novels are made to be adapted so of course many scenes are described in every other word and might even be considered an info dump. At the same time though, I can't really comment on it too much since I read a translation and I know that sometimes they take away from the story.
