Montana Mountain Men #2

Owned by the Mountain Man

Rate this book
Huge, muscled and sexy in plaid, Huck Barnett is one of the most beautiful men I’ve ever seen. Every woman in Rockhead Peak wants a taste of the mountain man. Including me.

Except, after a drunken girls’ night out, instead of waking up with him in my bed, I wake up with a killer hangover and an inbox full of his texts telling me how reckless and dangerous my antics are.

Now my dad and brother want to find me a husband, and my ex-boyfriend has decided he wants the job.

But I’m not looking for marriage, I’d rather have a few incredible nights with the annoying mountain hottie. Only it turns out he’s not looking for a hook-up, he wants to own me.

Yeah so this book is so not ok. Huck’s actions are disgusting and his lack of remorse for lying to his partner, taking away her conformed consent and not even allowing her to have an ounce of space is awful. Their relationship can be described as toxic at best but boderline abusive at worst. Switching out birth control for placebos to purposely get your partner pregnant against their wishes is completely unforgivable yet Huck seems to have no qualms about doing that to the woman he so called “loves”. Also the random comments about her “becoming a lesbian” to escape men isn’t ok. You can’t just become lesbian when it’s convenient for you and it shouldn’t be joked about. Cora constantly and consistently throughout the book tries to have free will or just have alone time but is denied that all because of tuck’s feelings. Yeah the possessive hot broody guy trope can be hot but in this case it is not. If you’re the author and you see this I hope you know writing a relationship with a total lack of consent and communication is not ok.

I do not recommend this book. Though I enjoyed book 1 and loved the couple - the extreme lack of communication and consideration for cora’s wishes made me extremely uncomfortable and the way Huck forced her to get pregnant without her knowing makes me want to report him for SA. The ending of the book resolved absolutely nothing and Huck gets away with being a lying and creepy douchebag. This book perpetuates toxic relationships and makes them look “sexy” and “hot” when really the woman is trapped with no say and no power. Also her being referred to as a “sex toy” also did not sit right.

Fuck you, Huck

If you saw my review for book 1, you'll know I was crazily all over Beau and his OTT alphaness.

Well, scratch that for his fucking brother Huck! Ugh.
Look, you can't throw a content warning up ( which I never need btw, if I don't like something in a book I just skim right over it ) about being OTT and all alpha grrrr and then have him force a pregnancy on the girl, that's not what OTT alpha means.

This fothermucker trapped a 21 year old girl into motherhood! He switched out her birth control pills, bringing them to her every morning like a good, doting boyfriend, all the the while knowing what he was doing.
That shit just sits so wrong with me and I hated him.
Hated him more that he was NOT SORRY HE DID IT. He was all, nope, she'll just have to get used to it, I own her, blah blah.

Look, I can suspend disbelief like a fothermother. I've read teen mafia stories with kids ruling the town. I can overlook a lot of shit, but that shit Huck did was vile. He didn't even want a relationship with the heroine at first, but suddenly two days later he's telling her he owns her and wants to BREED her. I think that term should stay in shifter books, it sounds ugly in contemporary romances.

This over-the-top beast completely missed the mark for me and I hated him from start to finish with no redeeming whatsoever. I was pissed at the heroine too for forgiving him 3 seconds later. It was the only time I wanted a non-HEA. The only good part of the book was when she left him.

I hope this isn't a steady decline for these brothers because I did genuinely like them all in book one and then fucking Huck had to go and ruin it. Asshole.

if you read Gemmas books you know how OTT these alphas get I don't think I met any alphas like she writes.. this type of alpha is Crack alpha lol you have been warned!!!

Oh Huck... Huck Huck... you are a breed of your own lol. When I tell you this man ups the OTT alpha males he does lol. When you first meet Huck he alil dickish because he knows that Cora is off limits because she's Bonnie's (h in book 1) bff so he tries to keep those urges under lock but everytime he sees Cora he can't help it. And his alphaness comes out lol and boyyyy 💦💦💦💦🔥🔥 that mouth.

Also ladies have a word for blue balls for the kitty Blue BEAN 🤣🤣🤣🤣 can this be a thing lol.

Now as for Cora she had a rough few months with a ex who won't go away thanks to her dad and brother who keep inviting him and now Huck entering her life at first she thinks maybe it's be a one time thing.. but those Barnett men when they find there one they stick to you like glue.. and boy does he stick to her. And making sure her ex knows she's his woman now. And they play and fight and push all those delicious buttons.. But not all is sunshine and rainbows.. it took me awhile to warm up to Cora.. but she was okay.

Hucks does something that even made me alil upset and I wish he did grovel little more when Cora found out and I wish Cora stuck to her guns alil more to teach Hucks a lesson but it was kinda brushed aside by few words.. so that was alil disappointing. I can't wait to see which brother is next

This book made me laugh! Just like with the first book, this Barnett brother is one of those OTT obnoxious alpha heroes.
I wanted to own her in the most basic way, by branding her from the inside with my seed.
This story is super fun, lighthearted, steamy as hell, really sweet and hilarious.

Cora loves sex, and she's not ashamed to admit it. Her last boyfriend was quite miserable in the sack, she calls him the "two-pump chump." Then she meets Huck.
The sex I've experienced before now, barely seems to classify as anything more than clueless rutting in comparison with the sexual wonderland that Huck Barnett has shared with me in the last hour.
The first 80% of the story was really good, but I will admit the last part pissed me off. The hero does something despicable. His intentions are completely selfish, even though his heart is kinda in the right place. The ending was way too short, and there wasn't enough groveling to make up for the assholary behavior. Still, I had a blast reading this, highly recommended for readers who don't mind their H to be caveman alphas.

I don’t know what possessed me to read this shit… Well I know why… this was recommended by everyone and their mama on a Facebook group..

1) the cover doesn’t scream “mountain man”
2) the title.
3) just because a woman has sex doesn’t make her a slut especially when the number of man you have slept with is “just average”.
4) alphaholes are not cute.
5) this is the biggest one.. getting a woman pregnant with a minion that she never wanted is a fucked thing to do. He should be shot between the legs. And she makes a big deal for 5 seconds only to forgive him without any grovel.
6) this was a pathetic attempt at everything. I just can’t!

Disclamer:

**Some GR members (you know who you are, not worth mentioning your profile names) think I hate all books. 😏🤣 i only hate books that have weak, doormat and pathetic heroines. They’ve said that I have no right to read books that I’d hate. 😏 please, like you pay for my books. News flash, I can read what I want, when I want, and rate them how I want. The day you pay for my books then maybe you’ll have a say in what I read but in the meantime sit the fuck down, don’t be pathetic and kindly fuck off!**

I thought Beau was OTT but Huck takes the cake. Huck is a lot. Too much, really. Controlling, possessive, jealous, insecure, selfish and psychotic. Everything, from start to finish, was about him and how he wanted to own Cora in every way possible. He didn't care about Cora or her feelings at all, and didn't feel bad about it either.

Cora was supposed to be this strong, independent girl but she was screwed stupid by some good D. She had no braincells left. Zero. She was orgasmed into compliance anytime she had a thought of her own and quickly just fell in line with whatever Huck wanted her to do. They never actually fix any of their issues. She gets seriously betrayed by him and then forgives him after an orgasm and no apology? Girl, get it together.

I love a good jealous, possessive H. Especially one that does crazy things to keep his girl. It has to be done right, though. He has to be redeemable. This just felt off. There were some sweetish moments but not enough, and not where it counts.

The book was okay but it was mostly a constant loop of sex and fighting with no real relationship or character development. I was exhausted after reading this. After writing this review, I think I have to change it from 3 stars to 2.

Also, not anything to do with these two but I want to understand the set up of their house. I can't picture how it makes sense. A log ranch, with 8 bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, the parents had their own wing, and now they are just building wings off of each room to house all their future women (and children). How does that work, construction wise? This place has to be absolutely massive. Also, most women aren't going to want to live in the same house as 14 adults, plus kids when they start "breeding" them. Are they just going to force every single girl into moving in? Huck was supposed to be one of the easy going brothers so I can only imaging what that's going to be like. And brown bagging lunch everyday? What a waste. Why don't they have lunchboxes? Lol

Wide disclaimer for this series because I'm posting reviews on books 1-5: these are over the top alphas. Like, minor stalking... kidnapping... not taking "no thank you I'm not interested" for an answer. Major breeding. Messing with birth control. Read it like you read a dark psycho romance - knowing this isn't an endorsement for the behavior in real life.

Go read my review for book 1. This series is wild and not for everyone!! It is littered with dubcon and seriously f'd up things, including tampering with birth control.

Sidenote: why is it that I can read a serial killer romance with no problem where the hero tortures and murders people, but in this book I was seriously squicked that he messed with her birth control without her knowing to TRY to get her pregnant. Maybe because this is a contemporary so it feels more real than a serial killer romance? I can see abusive men doing this in real life so it freaks me out more than a serial killer hero, who I can't imagine.

Anyway, this was definitely my least favorite from books 1-5 (the ones that are currently out). Not just because of the birth control thing but I just didn't like Huck! I wish Cora could have stuck it to him a little more. Before and after ~the incident~

CW: stalking, kidnapping, dubcon, messing with birth control / forced impregnation. Tread carefully if you are sensitive about anything domestic violence related - there is none in this book (he worships her) BUT the behaviors that all the brothers exhibit are very similar with abusive, obsessed men who stalk women

Almost a five star read.

Read 2: I’ve downgraded this from four stars to three stars. I reread this because I’m finally going to read the entire series and I want to do it in order. I hated Cora much more this time around than I did in my first read. I found her super annoying.

I’m still upset on how it ended. The BBS (body betrayal syndrome) was real and annoying. It was set up for such a good grovel and just didn’t deliver. It was going to well too. He was feeling guilty about tricking her and worried she would leave him then for some reason he just flipped a switch and said he would apologize because he wasn’t sorry and basically laughed at her for being upset. It was rather rage inducing.

Read 1: I loved this. A lot. I like an obsessed, jealous, over the top hero. They are my jam. I also like when a heroine doesn’t give in and forgive immediately and I think that Cora held out an okay amount of time.

It WOULD have been five stars for me if Huck had shown even a morsel of regret for what he did. Even if it was only for the fact that he lied and tricked her even if not for what happened as a result. Or if for even for a SECOND he worried he wouldn’t get her to stay with him. Jesus. His overconfidence after what he did was enraging. If I could just re-write the last 15% of the book for the author I would be a happy girl.

Cora might be okay and able to move on from what Huck did but I’m not sure I ever will.

Slightly better than the first book but I just can't take this book seriously enough to like it lol. The characters are too OTT and annoy me too much with how much all they can think about is sex. The saving grace is that the heroine is sexually active, even if the sex does suck, I don't even care because I'm not about to read another virgin heroine with one of the brothers (all whom have pretty much slept with everyone in town like it's supposed to be attractive because then it means "they know what they're doing in the bedroom"🤢). But unlike most people, I didn't mind the birth control part🤷 I'm just not a fan of the rest of the book, which means I'm done with this series.

Safety:

No cheating/sharing

Om drama- heroines ex bf causes some drama

Manh*e hero, non-virgin heroine

The couple: Huck and Cora

Romance genre: contemporary
Part of a series: Yes (Montana Mountain Men)
Length: 267 pages

Plot: In this book, we pick up where the last one (Property of the Mountain Man) left off. Bonnie was out celebrating with her best friend Cora, and they got a little drunk. Beau took Bonnie home, which meant that his brother, Huck, was left to take care of Cora. He takes her home and puts her to bed and then leaves. In the morning, Cora doesn't remember anything about that; she just thinks that she had way too much to drink. Then she notices that her phone is blowing up with messages, and some of them are from an unknown number. Finally, the mystery caller shows up at her house: Huck. He's mad because she put herself in danger, including the drinking and leaving her key under her welcome mat. They fight - a lot (in such a short amount of time), and he tries to put her off of him (which shouldn't be that difficult, because...Huck). This goes on for a while - back and forth, fighting and...other f-words. Huck lets Cora know in no uncertain terms that he owns her. Then he does something truly disturbing:

Character development: I really did not like Huck at all. I'm all for a jealous/possessive, OTT hero, but he crossed a line with the birth control pills - and he knew it. He knew it while he did it, and he did it anyways. He knew it when Cora left him, and he spun it to himself so that he never apologized. He decided that he wasn't going to apologize because he wasn't sorry. Even when he realized that everything he did was not for Cora, but rather for himself, despite him claiming to love her (a fact he realized after she pointed it out to him), he decided he wasn't going to apologize. With the first book, I felt like Beau loved Bonnie and wanted to get to know her, at least a little. I didn't get that sense with Huck at all. Because I didn't feel like Huck truly loved Cora, it was difficult to connect with either character: I could not figure out why they were there!

Grammar/formatting: just a couple of weird spelling/naming issues that seem to be because of British v. American English. So they're not wrong...except that the book is set in the US, so it's a little strange. Still, much better than the last book in the series.

Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes

I read the first book in this series and while I ADORED Beau, I hated Bonnie, so it took a me long time to read this book, but I’m so glad that I did! I LOVED Huck! He was everything that I love in a book boyfriend — OTT, j/p, and just won’t take no for an answer! I also really liked Cora. She didn’t annoy me like Bonnie. I loved how she gave herself over to the rollercoaster that was Huck, but still wasn’t a pushover. The smexy scenes were beyond hot! The dirty talk… oh Lordy! 🥵

So there's a disclaimer at the start of this book, warning you off if super alpha, ultra possessive heroes aren't your bag. Entirely fair. It can be problematic for me but I also do love some alphahole stories, so I'm a tough sell but I can be won over. And I didn't love the first book, but also I get twitchy if a story is teased and I was curious so I took the plunge. And it started out a bit more promisingly than the first book - there's still a lot of typos, but I liked the setup.

However, there's a BIG difference between being a super possessive romance hero and TRICKING SOMEONE INTO GETTING PREGNANT AND THEN NOT APOLOGISING. A 21 year old woman being forced into a pregnancy that she did not choose is not remotely enjoyable for me to read. It also leaves me 100% doubting that this couple could live happily ever after because how the hell do you trust someone after this?! Thankfully there are no overt teases for future books so I can admit defeat on this series.

I'm loathe to yuck anyone else's yum, so I will emphasise that this is my view and it might (and seems to!) work for others, but it's just not for me.

In “Owned” we pick back up, more or less, where Property of the Mountain Man concluded. With this installment we get to know our next Barnett brother, the handsome of _____, Huck. Our hero appeared to be laidback when we met him in the first book. It turns out he’s taken a page from Beau’s book and, he too, is a quintessential steamroller immediately upon meeting his woman, Cora.

Cora is a fun, independent, if not jaded young woman who’s been in a loveless relationship with a tool who’s not ready to let go. There’s a bit of push and pull drama in this one, but Owned by the Mountain Man is still a fun, super steamy read. While part of The Montana Mountain Men series, it could likely be read as a standalone. But why would you want to? These Barnett brothers are the real OTT jealous/possessive alphahole deal.

I fell in love with book 1, and wanted book 2 to at least get an update on Beau and Bonnie’s story. WOW. I thought Beau was controlling and dominating (yes both together because it was exactly that) but Huck has nothing on him. I still like the protectiveness but I’m thinking this is more to 3 star because I’m not really feeling the length he went to in order to make sure she stayed. Even behind love it still doesn’t mesh. 4 because while thinking WTH, it still was a good story and still deep down loved him…. as messed up as his train of thought but still good.

Screw it...5 OTT Alpha Stars!

Yall...if you like seriously OTT alpha males who use their dirty mouth and obsessive, possessive and controlling ways to catch and keep their women then this is the book for you!

Cora goes out with Bonnie (from book 1) one night and catches the attention of Huck (Beau's brother) and her fate is sealed. She is DONE for. Huck takes alpha male to the next level and I loved every second of it. I love that these stories don't feel like a short smut fest story but have some substance and character development woven through them. But don't worry this does not skimp on the steam! Whoa brother. If crazy hero isn't your thing then don't read this book but if you like taking a ride in fantasy land with a male who owns and bends his woman to him then definitely pick up this sinful series!

Welp......hmmmm......listen. I like a good bulldozing ott JP alpha man but.....this was just not done in a good way 😬 they were constantly at odds with what this relationship was and he just kept telling her what to do. where's the love? The sweetness and the relationship building? Hes just constantly telling her what to do instead of showing her love. This is not romance to me.

The part when she thinks she has no clothes because he put it in the drawers (and didn't tell her)? Shes snarling at him and he responds with narrowing of eyes and threatening her to never talk to him like that again? Oh no no no honey! Peace out! Youre an hairy, stinky a$$hole and I want none of that!

So many showers taken and food eaten but it seems like nothing else is happening.. Dnfed when all I did was start skimming....and STILL nothing was happening 😫😬😬😐

"Owned by the Mountain Man" is the story of Cora and Huck.

We meet Cora, Bonnie's bestie and Huck, the brother to Beau. They met in the last book, and now suddenly the hero wants to be with the heroine by hook or crook. She is trying to ward off a clingy ex, and does not mind good sex so agrees. Anyways, shagging commences and the hero decides to tamper with her birth control and that forms the story.

I think they enjoyed having sex but there was barely much feelings involved, especially from the heroine. The ending was rushed and a bit incomplete. Also dont like to read about sexual encounters with OP.

If you are looking for a SUPER over the top alpha, possessive lumberjack story with lots of steam, this is some good entertainment. Yet another Barnett brother hero- this time Huck, 13 years older than our heroine and as possessive and controlling as his brother from book 1. He sets his eyes on his Peaches (Cora, who is the best friend of the heroine from book 1), and his possessive instincts explode into a super steam, super alpha possession.

I mean this is the caveman story at its finest. Lumberjack who lives with his brothers in the mountain, pretty much stalks the heroine, has her moving in with him in like a week, and infiltrates her entire life without permission. And, he’s pretty sexy doing it. He’s a bit swoony, a bit terrifying, dreamy and psychopath all at once. Cora isn’t a total doormat, though she normally does cave to Huck’s demands, thanks in part to his skill in orgasm giving. And HE IS GIVING. She has some spunk, puts up some fight with her logic, but she’s ultimately unable to resist Huck’s over the top, overbearing insanity.

This was a fast and super hot read- if you’re looking for some intense emotional depth or profound character growth, this isn’t that. But it’s got all that protective alpha swagger I adore, and it’s got some super hot bedroom times (back door play, toys)- lightly kinky, and pretty hot. The plot is pretty bananas (insta love, move in after like 3 days, etc), but it’s fiction, right? Many readers will certainly think Huck’s possessiveness crosses the line- spoiler, he’s into breeding her to lock her to him forever, and he manipulates her birth control in order to do it. This i could actually live with- in a FICTIONAL STORY- I’ve seen some heroes do far worse. What I didn’t love though was how much this hurt her, how hard she suffered in the betrayal, and he was not only not apologetic, but didn’t learn anything from it. I wish we’d gotten a better and more satisfying ending- Cora deserved better. And, there was a pretty big inconsistency that came out in the “make-up” in the end that contradicted something early in the book- normally I don't’ get bothered by things like that, but when it’s a big plot point, I can’t ignore it.

Worth the read for the over top possessiveness (that will make you both swoon and laugh perhaps) and for the steamy times. <2.5 stars>

I loved the first book. As an aficionado of (fictional ffs 🤦‍♀️) OTT steamroller MMCs, it was a really fun read.

This is... a DNF @30%. But not why you think. Most of the bad reviews are people outraged that this MMC (spoiler) Meanwhile I'm like,

gif of a woman saying 'Don't threaten me with a good time'

And hell, I didn't even get that far. My biggest problem was this:

“Take a cold fucking shower, Cora, I can smell your desperation from here.”

🤬🙅‍♀️🤬 That's the kind of jaw-dropping insult I might expect to read in a bully or enemies romance, but not here! And her response to his rejection was just bizarre. Instead of telling him to go fuck himself with a blowtorch—or any other reasonable reaction—she decides to.... masturbate loudly. While he changes her front door lock. To... get back at him 🥴. Oh, that showed him alright👏👏. Vengeance, thy name is Cora.

I couldn't get past that line, but I also had nitpicks:

● Huck has possessive thoughts but he's annoyed by them and pushes away. He's annoyed by her casual attitude toward her safety. He's annoyed he can't casually fuck Cora because she's his SIL's best friend. Then he fucks her after all—and just leaves. Then he's annoyed she didn't beg him to stay. I thought the point of this series was that the MMC gets lovestruck fast and hard. Look I'm sure he'll get brutally stabbed by Cupid's Arrow one page after I've DNF'd but I'm already too annoyed at HIM to care.

● Not that Cora was great either. In the first book, Bonnie was extremely competent, and her issues were mainly related to her strong sense of responsibility and sacrifice. Cora's issues are making shallow choices, and acting sloppy with her personal safety. It's valid, but it just made it harder to root for her in comparison.

● When Cora first sees Huck naked, she says something like "It’s not the biggest dick I’ve ever seen, but it’s the thickest." Oh, isn't that refreshing? No, it's not. Hear me out:

In the previous book, Cora was obsessed with the rumors about (Huck's brother) Beau's huge dick. She was constantly asking her friend Bonnie about it. And she mentions often that her ex's dick is HUGE. In that context, combined with her admitted shallowness, her comment almost sounds prosaic.

"He has the thickest dick I've ever seen" would've communicated the same idea while sounding way more enthusiastic. Sorry, but I want all MCs to feel they've won the lottery with each other. Maybe that eventually happens here but I'm on to the next one.

“Yes, I do,” he replies, silencing me with a kiss. “Stop trying to fight this or I’ll get you so cum drunk you’ll do whatever I want you to, then I’ll fly you to Vegas and tie you to me legally. I’m not afraid to put a ring on it, Peaches. Ring on your finger, my baby in your belly, sounds fucking good to me.”

Just as good as the last one but maybe better smexy scenes due the the “fighting” and submission HOWEVER super annoyed with the resolution at the end. I needed Huck to just get it a little bit and he really didn’t in the end.
Yes, I fully realize this is fantasy and I disregarded everything in the first book but come on!

Anyway, I’ll still be reading and enjoying the rest. I love this author’s grumpy and possessive male characters and I love that our heroines have backbones.

So I want to start by saying wow that took a real turn I was not expecting. This book is the second in the series but could be real as a standalone. Once Huck saw Cora with Bonnie the heroine from book 1 that was it for him he was hooked, just like his brother Beau in book 1. This story was all about their push pull relationship, with him trying his best to convince her it is a relationship and forever. This was an enjoyable read but I really wish Cora had stuck to her convictions in the end and made Huck work for it or he at least gave in a bit. Huck was the OTT obsessed alpha we all wanted and expected for the first 80%, but then this book took a pretty extreme turn. While I like this type of OTT behavior in fiction, wow if this was real life I’d be screaming run.
The author does add a warning so heed it if you have any triggers.

I did add spoilers below as this book did have some scenes that could be triggering for some.

SPOILER
Huck deliberately gets Cora pregnant. From that point on the book takes a rather wild ride. I was honestly super excited when Cora ran cause finally a heroine that’s smart about it and doesn’t leak it to a gullible family member so the hero can immediately find her! But then when she comes back she’s kidnapped and the hero forces her into sexual acts as a way to make it all better. I was actually really hopeful she’d get away and there would be a come to Jesus moment for Huck. I really was thinking she’d run and get in an accident and FINALLY it would dawn on him he was an ass. If only because I was really enjoying having a heroine that didn’t just give in for some hot sex, who stood by her hurt and demanded something be done. I just felt like it invalidated her feelings and he’s gonna walk all over her but it’s okay cause he “loves” her. I love an alpha hero but his behavior was truly crazy in the last few chapters, it fits a lot of boxes for domestic abuse and I felt we needed more than “oh I’m not sorry but I love you” to make it better. Shes ready to physically fight and escape but “i love you” pops out of his mouth and all is suddenly fine cause how could she leave him if she loves him.

Now I’ve read this trope before and normally it doesn’t bother me but Cora was vehemently fighting and hurt and all of that’s solved in one sentence which just felt rushed and sad for her. It was such a 180 in her thinking. I think having a scene where Huck offers her the keys but pleads with her to stay because he loves her would have helped, because at least she would’ve had a choice (for once), but that’s me and I still finished it in a night and enjoyed it.

So this took a turn.

Look, I love pitch dark romance. Love it. Non-con. Stockholm. Forced orgasms. All of it. But when it's a clearly dark romance.

This was not a dark romance though. It was just an OTT alpha contemporary romance and then BOOM he forces her pregnancy and kidnaps her when she is leaving him.

If this was a dark romance, I'm MFing here for it. But in this context, it was just domestic abuse. He was not sorry, not once. He showed no remorse in hurting her or making her desperate and sad. In fact it was hard to see that he even liked her other than he had decided she was his and he had to make her stay.

The end made no real sense, he is forgiven (though he didn't apologize) for manipulating her into a forced pregnancy and forcefully kidnapping her because he said he loved her for the first time. Except.... It wasn't the first time? He says it literally a chapter before over the phone and she doesn't notice it as abnormal.

Cora is vapid and sex obsessed. I really didn't need a play by play of her masturbating more than once. And all she ever says about why she broke up with her ex boyfriend is he was so bad in bed, but that she didn't want to be 'mean' by saying anything.
Um, communicating about sex is what is empowering. Not just lamenting over and over that it's not good and refusing to discuss it with them.

Why do all the heroines have asshole big brothers?

I am a queen sucker for OTT possessive and jealous heros, but I need to feel like they would do anything to make their woman happy, not hurt her and beat her down until she stays. With this book I felt no love between characters, only controlling angry behavior and a woman convinced to stay because the sex is good.

It's disappointing because I loved the brother dynamic and the town/world created and where I could see the series going. But I don't know if I'm up for another book hero like that one.

Oh Huck. Say it ain't so bro!

This book was hitting all the right spots, I couldn't put it down. I was loving every second of it. But then the further I got into the book, the more irritated I became, specifically at Huck. I love a good alpha who wants to claim his woman...but he never gave Cora a consideration. He didn't think about what she wanted, even though they did talk about it. He claimed to feel some guilt over what he did...until she found out. Then he was just angry for her having a reaction. Even reason he gave for his actions was all about him, his wants and needs. He even told her he wasn't sorry. He expected sex and an I love you to smooth everything over and make it ok. And the worst part was he wasn't wrong. But it wasn't that Cora actually forgave him, it was more like she gave up. She put up a fight and put him in his place and then she just...gave up.

Even at the end, when he said he wanted "as many kids as you'll give me", it wasn't about her. He said he'd do it again, to get her pregnant. So again, he's taking it out of her hands, making the decisions for her.

I really did love the book up until that point. This is my first book by the author, and I already have 2 other books in this series on my kindle and I'm kind of rethinking them. The end of this book wasn't handled well, so it makes me reconsider reading any more in this series/by this author and that sucks.

Super hot read....again the storyline is okay. But I kinda get with this series it is all about the smexy. SUPER possessive. Again, there is potential for this to be triggering due to the loss of control the FMC goes through. Some may see the tack over of their life as triggering as well.

As long as you go into this read understanding that you will love it!

Happy reading,
DD 🥂

4.4 stars.
Whoa.
That ending was fucking Wild.
I can’t say much without ruining it all, but holy fuck. Huck has Beau beat in the unreasonable, alphahole department by about..oh…100 miles!? Fuck me. That was some serious crazy, right there.

But. It was still kind of hot..in a fucked up way..?
This whole series is basically a fuck fest with the craziest bunch of alpha holes you could imagine, and I’m here for it.

The sex in this was fantastically plentiful and dirty, even dirtier than the first book.

Honestly I don’t know what else to say. That last like 10-20% of the book has me reeling.

I’m gonna go to the next now and see if things calm down a bit or if that saying about the quiet ones holds true and Granger ends up being the craziest of them all…
Whichever. I’m down for the hot sex and the total, over the top obsessive possession these men feel towards their women.
