Two Strangers. A Chance Meeting? One Moment that will change their lives forever.
Lindy once had the world at her feet. An adoring husband, two beautiful daughter’s and a successful career.
In a split second, a tragic accident causes Lindy’s world to come crashing down around her.
Mia, personal fitness trainer and glamorous wife of a local tv personality seems to have everything.
Slowly Lindy learns more about Mia’s ‘perfect’ life and becomes convinced that they are each other’s saviours.
As obsessions grow and the lines that shape reality become blurred, Lindy’s and Mia’s lives are now forever dangerously intertwined as personalities merge
This book should have come with a large trigger warning at the beginning of the story. I'm a rather hardened reader of psychological thrillers but even I felt sometimes very uncomfortable with what happened to Mia during her marriage to handsome and popular Ricky. Not to speak of what he does to her beloved dogs - no, they survive - otherwise I would have not given this story three stars.
The plot is not very original with two women who have different reasons for wanting to kill their husband - albeit Lindy at least isn't a victim of abuse. And still it is Lindy who is the most desperate of the two and who's actions set everything in motion.
A quick read that lacks real depth and intrigue, but nevertheless not bad and it cannot be read without evoking some feelings.
Thanks to Joffe Books and Netgalley for this review copy.
This was a nerve racking read, oh my it was addictive especially when I got to the nitty gritty bit. The author absolutely smashed this out of the park, her writing is compelling. I couldn’t help liking Lindy even though she’s not well mentally, not surprised to be honest. I liked Mia too but I thought she could have been braver and more clever with her situation. There were some moments when I was literally clenching my teeth. This is a perfect example of you never know what’s happening behind closed doors.
If you are looking for a psychological thriller that takes you on the ultimate rollercoaster ride, then look no further!! I was guilty of forever telling myself, ooh just one more chapter, as I raced through this as I just couldn't tear myself away from these characters and the situation they found themselves in!
Lindy is one of the main characters and her life has been turned upside down after a terrible accident. She had it all, but now she's full of rage and bitterness. She's plagued by memories of how wonderful her life was before, and soon becomes fixated on Mia, the glamorous wife of a local tv personality, and becomes convinced that they're meant to be in each others lives for a reason..... she just doesn't quite know what that reason is just yet.
Their lives soon become entangled, as you see the stories behind both Lindy and Mia and all is not what it seems underneath the surface! I loved that you got to see different sides to them as you found out more about their lives - there's some seriously disturbed minds in some of these characters!!
The more Lindy finds out about Mia, the more obsessive she becomes in finding out more. And the more she learns about Mia and her husbands relationship, the more involved she becomes.
It's dark, pulsating, tense and full of suspense and captures the mood of modern life perfectly! People being manipulated and how obsessions can blur the line between fact and fiction, and I found myself intrigued to see how things would play out as horrors from the past were revealed and dealt with. You see this bond between the women but wonder what it is really based upon and it was quite disturbing when things began to spiral out of control! Such a brilliant read!!
Lindy is a hotel housekeeper who is leading a somewhat troublesome life. She meets Mia, who seems to have the perfect life and starts stalking her. Lindy soon discovers that Mia's life is far from perfect and together they hatch a plan to get her away from it. But can they go through with it?
This was a dark thriller and definitely a page turner. Some parts of both of their lives were quite hard to read, but made the story more effective. It also then added to the will they/won't they go through with the plan?
In their own ways I think both Lindy and Mia were unhinged due to the traumas they had both been through. One hid it and one let it show
I was a little disappointed with the ending as it felt like it just didn't fit with what had happened in the rest of the story.
This is the first book that I've read by this author and I just know it won't be the last!
I love a good twisty thriller and this one was intriguing and fast-paced and had me on edge right from the first page.
I don't usually read blurbs before starting the book, this way I get no spoilers and this worked so well here because I had no clue who was even meant to be the one to trust in the first place. I was just waiting for something to happen...
I liked both the main characters - Lindy and Mia - but it was clear that neither had the perfect life and it really was a good reminder to be content with what you have - or change it! Just maybe not in the ways that these ladies did! The stalking aspect always makes feel uncomfortable, especially seeing into their mind and hearing the thoughts running through - one of my biggest fears!
I got completely immersed in this one - I just couldn't wait to see what happened in the end. However, no matter how many theories I came up with, I still wasn't prepared for that last twist!
Be ready to read through the night as you reach for this book. Guilty is a gripping psychological thriller you will not want to put down before you reach the very last page. Two women who are hurt and angry, and when they join forces create an explosive partnership that leads to a jaw-dropping conclusion. The author created two everyday women who struggle their way through daily life. Only both women are consumed by anger. Sadie Ryan takes you on a journey into these women’s lives and allows you to spend time in each woman’s mind. Experiencing their emotions first-hand while the truth about their lives are slowly revealed leaving you shocked as you turn the pages. Lindy had the perfect life until an accident turns her work upside down, leaving her consumed by anger and a need for revenge. Mia’s life appears perfect, she has a loving family and a husband that adores her, but she has a secret which she would protect at all costs. When Mia and Lindy cross paths, these two women find their lives quickly intertwined and their friendship ends in a disastrous conclusion. Guilty features two mothers who each have two daughters. Having two daughters myself, it was easy for me to understand these characters and how they felt. It made this book a gripping read that I raced through eager to see how it would end. I can say I never predicted this ending.
The author did a fantastic job with the characters in this book. Lindy is an angry woman who shows her anger at every turn. As her story is revealed you understand her need to lash out. She needed someone to blame, and when she reveals that she blames herself more than anyone else I found my heart just broke for her. Mia was a little more difficult to figure out. I battled with her reasoning at times, and just when I decided I understood her choices she goes and surprises me all over again. She is a damaged woman and as the story unfolds you start to see just how badly she needs help. Ricky, Mia’s husband is quite the character, his actions simply leave you amazed as you read this book. I found it hard to believe that someone like him could be out in the world and he did not come across as realistic. While I found his extreme behaviour added to the reading pleasure of this book. By the time I read the final page I found my heart breaking for Frank. He plays a rather small part in the story but turns out to be the one character who probably suffered the most. This book was not what I expected. It was full of surprises, and I loved how I did not see the conclusion coming. Yep, this one has been added to my love list for 2021 and I look forward to the opportunity to read more books by Sadie Ryan. She has a wickedly creative imagination that makes her writing brilliant reading material. Starting this book, I was reminded of Michael Robotham’s book, The Secrets That She keeps, a book I added to my top ten in 2020. If you enjoyed that book, you would find that Guilty simply consumes you. Guilty will appeal to psychological fiction fans as well as readers who enjoy women’s fiction. Guilty is dark and full of surprises so be prepared to read late into the night because you will not be able to put this book down. It’s a brilliantly gripping read you would not want to miss out on.
Written from a first-person perspective this book follows Lindy and Mia. Lindy has lost everything, and latches on to Mia, who she thinks leads the perfect life. I wondered if it was going to be a straightforward story of a woman stalking another. How wrong was I. As it turns out the life Mia leads is far from perfect, and her partner Ricky is one of the most odious and despicable to exist in fiction. There are breadcrumbs laid even in the earliest chapters, but you have no idea what is coming. This was a book that really, genuinely was impossible to put down. It very much has the one more chapter deal going on, until you've finished it. Before that happens the writer isn't done with your emotions, she decides to chuck in an epic twist that is both incredible and sneaky. I don't see how anyone would have guessed. This is the first of Sadie's books I have read, but if past or future books are that good that it wont be my last.
An intriguing story that draws you in from the very beginning. Lindy seems to be going through some very depressing things. As she watches Mia from a distance, she seems to make a connection. As the story unfolds twist and turns keep you tuning the pages. A Book Club must. So many things to discuss. Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the opportunity to read this awesome book
The Housekeeper by Sadie Ryan is an absolute page-turner! From the very first chapter, I was hooked by the tension and the interesting characters. The story follows the seemingly perfect life of a family disrupted by the arrival of their housekeeper, who keeps secrets that slowly unravel with devastating consequences.
The blurb
Blurb
My name is Linda. Most of my friends, not that I have many left, call me Lindy. I work as a housekeeper in a local hotel. I had the world at my feet once. Not anymore.
The first time I saw Mia was in the car park. She came over to help when my shopping bag split. There’s something about her delicate femininity that mesmerises me.
Ever since then, I’ve been kind of obsessed. Mia is stunning, with beautiful ash-blonde hair. I’ve had mine cut in the same style.
She has two beautiful children, the same age as mine. A gorgeous home on an exclusive estate. And a husband who’s the old-fashioned kind who picks her up after a night out. Mine wouldn’t even pick me up if I fell over in the street.
But then I get a call. Mia’s voice on the phone is breathy, edgy. She’s whispering, like she doesn’t want anyone to hear. ‘Lindy, I need your help. Listen to me, please.’
I’ll help her. But only if she helps me . . .
Thank you to the author @sadie.ryan.author @zooloosbooktours and @joffebooks for letting me review this book.
Thank you Zooloo's Book Tours for introducing me to a great new author, The Housekeeper was a great intro to Ryan's books and a fantastic popcorn thriller.
I was immediately piqued by the blurb and the opening chapters sold it for me, I was hooked!
Fueled with suspense and tension, Ryan takes us on a dark, twisty journey with main characters Lindy and Mia - two strangers drawn together in times of need. It's fantastically twisty with an ending that blew me away, I definitely didn't see that one coming!
I started this in the morning and by the end of the day I had finished it. I took it with me everywhere so I could keep reading.
The book is written from the point of view of both women – Lindy and Mia. Mia’s life is perfect. She has a handsome husband called Ricky who works in TV. She’s beautiful and has two grown up daughters. Lindy lives in her shadow, obsessively stalking her and craving her life. At least that’s how it seems.
Then one day, it all changes. I felt quite sorry for Lindy because we know there has been a terrible tragedy in her life, we just don’t know what it is yet. But it’s Mia I was rooting for. Her popular, charismatic husband is turning into a monster. And all because he wants her inheritance – the inheritance that was left by her grandmother for their two grown up daughters. But Mia has a secret, which she will do anything to keep hidden.
Now, if I was Mia, I would have come clean straight away. I did not understand why she wouldn’t reveal the truth about her past, however terrible and traumatic it would be for others.
There were times when the plot was somewhat far-fetched, but if ‘you can suspend disbelief’, you will enjoy the story as much as I did. It was so entertaining, I really couldn’t put it down.
Many thanks to @ZooloosBT for inviting me to be part of this blog tour.
The housekeeper by Sadie Ryan. I did like the cover and blurb of this book. It was a really good read. I wasn't sure how I felt about the characters Lindy and Mia. I read this in two sittings. I certainly didn't see that twist coming. I would recommend this book.
This book kept me hooked from start to finish! There were so many different “secrets” within the plot that I really needed to find answers to. I felt very sorry for Mia - nobody deserves to be treated the way Ricky treats her. He’s a vile man! Lindy was a fascinating character and I loved how they both interacted. This is my first Sadie Ryan book and I will certainly be reading more as I loved this plot!
Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.
The Housekeeper was a creepy thriller that kept me on my toes wondering what would happen. Opening with full on stalker Lindy who is watching Mia and lusting after her perfect life, we soon get a domestic thriller as we find that Mia’s life isn’t so perfect (and in fact her husband is a raging psychopath). I was here for the whole ride until I felt like I got a different book smooshed into this one with the ending. Throughout The Housekeeper tension is built wondering what had happened to Lindy to isolate her so much that she watched Mia so closely. With Mia the tension ramped up in figuring out how Mia is going to escape her abusive husband. And all these things come together, albeit a bit clumsily in the final stretch. But after almost 90% of the book, which was written very well in having the reader wondering how everything could be resolved, things very quickly progressed and culminated in a series of events that didn’t feel true to the characters or true to the trajectory of the book.
I really enjoyed the majority of this story, and I think other readers will too. Just be forwarded that the ending is a definitive one, but doesn’t feel in line with the story.
Here is my review for The Housekeeper by Sadie Ryan
This story is quite an intriguing read and a nice little psychological thriller where a doting husband turns into a nasty, conniving, bully who beats his wife, and withholds her food and freedom until he gets what he wants. She is totally under his control. He’s taken away her mobile phone only leaving the landline but all her contact numbers are in her mobile. He locks away her clothes, leaving her to wear pajamas all day. He even made her give up her job as a spin class instructor. He expects her to look after the house and clean it. She has no access to any sort of reading material or tv. Until she gives him what he wants but he has to be a bit careful of her sister Beth as they are close and she is suspicious of him and always asking questions. Then the landline rings, it’s Lindy, a woman she barely remembers but keeps popping up everywhere, is ringing her. Mia asks her to ring her sister Beth and gives her the number, that’s all she can say. Lindy is suspicious of why she left her job at the gym. Will Lindy be her saviour? This was a great read and I really enjoyed the suspense that built up in the book. Just how far would Ricky push it? Would Mia give in and give him what he wanted? Just how much could Mia take before she broke? It was an interesting storyline as Lindy was effectively stalking Mia but she was worried when she realised that Mia was a house prisoner and something was seriously wrong. Her family were all infatuated with Ricky apart from Beth. Unfortunately, he had some damning information about his daughter Annie that he was carrying around him that would wreck the family and tear them apart. Perhaps that is what has changed him, Mia now admits she never loved him. The book is exceptionally well written and well thought out. It is told as a diarised story which I like as you get different people’s input to tell the story. A really good psychological thriller, Ricky is someone I would not wish to know.

I have read and loved Sadie’s previous books. So when I heard that she was due to release a new book, I just knew that I had to read it as soon as I could. I managed to grab a copy and then I promptly started reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Guilty’ but more about that in a bit. I have to say that I didn’t really warm to either Lindy or Mia. There was something about both ladies that made me a bit nervous. It could just be that I have read far too much crime fiction and I suspect everybody and believe nobody. I won’t go too far into what happens with either lady as I would hate to spoil the story for anybody. Even though I didn’t really warm to Mia, I did feel for her as her domestic life isn’t as ‘perfect’ as she makes out. I kept wanting to jump inside the pages of the book to sort out a certain individual. It’s maybe just as well for him that I couldn’t. It didn’t take me long at all to get into this story. In fact by the time I got to the end of the third page, I knew that I would find it increasingly difficult to put the book to one side for any length of time. I had my own suspicions as to what was going to happen and I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered off down another path entirely. To say that reading ‘Guilty’ became addictive is a bit of an understatement. My Kindle wasn’t glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn’t bear to miss a single second of the story. I finished ‘Guilty’ within a single day. I found ‘Guilty’ to be a gripping read, which certainly kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. ‘Guilty’ is superbly written but then I think that to be true of Sadie’s books in general. She certainly knows how to grab your attention from the start and she reels you in much as a fisherman reels in a catch. I love the way in which she crafts a clever and tight plot which takes you on one hell of a journey. Reading ‘Guilty’ felt like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns on the way. Some of the twists and turns will leave you feeling stunned or will leave you breathless. I love the way in which Sadie makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story themselves. That’s how I feel at any rate. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Guilty’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Sadie’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
“Guilty” is a lovely psychological thriller where a woman deals with an abusive husband on one side and an obsessed fan on the other side, and I enjoyed reading it!
What I enjoyed about the story is how the author manages to shift the personality of the characters. The author writes the story in a gripping manner where you think you know the characters, but they tend to surprise you. In the beginning, I was disturbed by Lindy and her obsession with Mia. I wondered how far Lindy would go and what her intentions were. Poor Mia! I felt terrible for her in the book.
On the one hand, she has someone like Lindy who is following her every move. On the other hand, she has a husband like Ricky who tortures her. Ricky is one of those characters who I despised with a passion. The way he treats Mia because of his ulterior motives was despicable. As you notice from my rant, I was utterly immersed in the storyline and the characters and had no idea what they were doing.
Moreover, as the story progresses, you learn more about the character’s backgrounds and change your perception. The author also moves the story nicely that leads to a chilling climax. This book had one of those endings that had me speechless, and I recollect how the characters behaved in certain scenes. Some of my memorable moments include when Mia and Lindy take the bus and plan their next move or when Ricky meets Lindy for the first time. After reading this book, I am interested in picking up some of the other’s previous novels.
Overall, “Guilty” is an entertaining book if you’re in the mood for a gripping psychological thriller.
Wow! This is one interesting book and not at all what I expected the plot to be like!
Guilty is a psychological thriller that's unlike any I've read before. The story is told from two different perspectives, giving the reader a glimpse into the minds and lives of each of the main characters. It took me a few chapters to grasp the concept, but once in, I was hooked until the very end. This is a rollercoaster of a journey with the craziest twists and the most unexpected turns.
Lindy, one of the main characters is troubled, sad, angry and filled with all kinds of negative emotions. Until we find out what truly happened, all we know is that she is bitter and her perfect life is not as it once was. Mia, a fitness trainer and wife of a famous TV host, seems to have it all; a perfect husband, life and everything. However, when one truly steps into the house, the reality is quite different.
The lives of these two women intersect, not exactly by coincidence and from here starts the crazy journey. Lindy inserts herself into Mia's life, trying to befriend her it seems. It feels as though Lindy is everywhere and this even feels like she is stalking Mia. What is her interest in this couple? Why is she always seen around them? Why is she watching them?
So many questions arise and are answered as the story progresses. The characters are quite deep and as we get to know them, we start to understand why they are the way they are. In fact, as a reader and person, it is easy to sympathize with them even when they are in the wrong. Their state of mind is something that the author has done a wonderful job of capturing. When the perfection is shattered, what's underneath brings out the monster in everyone. The author portrays this through this well crafted plot which is executed to perfection. I could not stop reading. I could not stop the horror I felt nor the sadness and all other emotions that go with this book. It is interesting to read about how the mind reacts to situations and then understands them. This is a must must must read for all fans of psychological thrillers!
'Guilty' by Sadie Ryan is a psychological thriller that once I started, I was unable to put it down. I am sorry to say...I haven't read any of Sadie Ryans work before. I feel I am so late to the party here I can almost say I'm ashamed! I need to right that wrong as soon as I can. Anyway, back to 'Guilty'. We meet Lindy who is one of the main characters . She had had the world at her feet. As obsessions grow and the lines that shape reality become blurred, Lindy’s and Mia’s lives are now forever dangerously intertwined as personalities merge. This is an addictive and all immersive experience. Such a skillfully woven story! The plotting is tight and the twists are so delicious I just had to keep on reading. Her characters are so complex and layered, their development is fantastic. As the story unfolds it slowly peels back each layer of the two women and we discover the root of the reasons for how they both behave. I cannot recommend this book much more than I have...other than to make flags and posters then post them around my neighbourhood too! Sadie Ryan, you have a new fan...or stalker, whichever you prefer. Thanks to ZooLoo's Book Tours and Spellbound Books for my copy of the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this author’s previous two books, so when the invitation fell into my mail box, I did not have to think twice: of course I would like to take part in a blog tour for her new book! 🙂
The main characters are Lindy and Mia. They both take turns in telling us this intriguing story.
The author first reveals Mia’s background story which is the base for the book. You feel for her. She did not really make the best decisions, but when you are young, you listen to the adults and you are influenced by them. You are afraid and you do as they say. If only you knew…
We have to wait a whole lot longer to find out what is going on with Lindy. It only makes you want to read faster, because you feel there is a lot to reveal. I never saw that coming…
Both Mia and Lindy change quite a bit during the story. Is it for the better or the worse, that is for you to discover when you read the book. Sorry, but did you really think I was going to let this slip? 🙂
You make a pact. It’s only natural you keep your end of the bargain, right? No matter how, where or when…
The story is filled with emotions. You will feel sad, happy, disgusted and regularly chills will race down your spine.
When I started this book I wasn’t sure where it was going. One character appeared to be stalking another; but it was much more sinister than that. I quite soon found myself reading pages between walking the dog, preparing meals; I was so eager to find out what was going to happen.
Briefly Lindy is traumatised by an accident and her once perfect life is in tatters. When she starts following Mia her intentions aren’t clear. Mia appears to have a perfect life, from a wealthy family she is married to Ricky, a strikingly handsome television personality, with two successful daughters, what more could she want? But her life isn’t as perfect as it seems and Lindy knows that. As a kind of friendship blossoms can the two women help each other?
As the story progressed I felt wary of Lindy, sorry for Mia but most of all I hated Ricky. I mean really hated him. The authors depictions of her character are spot on and I felt emotion about most of them, even the smaller characters. And just when I thought it was all over there was a massive twist. I seriously didn’t see that one coming. Wow. A great psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Housekeeper by Sadie Ryan is an unusual story about Linda Villas who has a fixation on Mia Hicks and is stalking her. Linda (or Lindy) is originally from Virginia, USA, married to an Englishman Frank Villas for 30 years, she works as a housekeeper in a hotel and they live in a small village in Cheshire, UK. Mia is financially independent with family money, married to Ricky Hicks a popular TV anchor, enjoys a part time job teaching at the local gym and lives in the same small village as Lindy. Mia appears to live a perfect life with a loving and attentive husband and her much-loved dog in an expensive neighborhood. Her two daughters Sally and Annie are adult and living away from home, and her sister, Beth is close and very supportive. Lindy leads a hard life. Husband Frank is a slovenly and silent individual with no job, her two adult daughters Gillian Annie and Debra Victoria who she obviously loves so much, do not put in an appearance. It is no wonder she stalks Mia with a craving to look like Mia, emulate her lifestyle, and enjoy an attentive husband. However, while stalking Mia and watching her life unfold, Lindy realizes that all is not as perfect as it seems in the Hicks household and resolves to rescue Mia from the nightmare existence she is in fact experiencing. The solution conceived by the two women to rescue Mia from Rick, and at the same time to remove deadbeat Frank from Lindy’s life seems very straightforward – nothing can possibly go wrong – or can it? I very much enjoyed reading this book and was completely hooked by the unfolding plot. This is the only book I have read in its entirety in one day since I was a teenager! Not only is the story well told and gripping, but the end is shockingly unexpected.
Sadie's writing doesn't abide by the usual rules. In present first person narration the characters tell the reader what's happening and why, there's no insinuation but cold hard facts, the twists come in revelations, and they're set to shock you. Surprise after stunning surprise till your head is spinning and you don't know which way is up. It works because the blunt writing style is like a sharp jab to the spine rather than the icy trail of a finger.
This is more than a tale of a friendship turning to petty jealousy and obsession, it's a twisted tale of how our personality shapes our behaviour and what happens when things go awry. It's not at all what I was expecting when I picked the book up and that's why Ryan's work is so compelling. Each story she tells is original and, once again, I had no idea what was going to happen, when, or why. I loved it. And I'm positive that if you're a fan of domestic noir you will too.
Can we talk about this cover for a second? I didn’t didn’t read the synopsis when I agreed to read this, because that cover just screamed, “READ ME!” Good news: the words inside are just as amazing! Guilty by Sadie Ryan is a fantastic, psychological thriller. It was so addictive that once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down. Sadie Ryan is skillful when it comes to plotting. She knows how to weave a twisting story to keep the reader engrossed. I loved how well developed the characters are. Each are so complex, and as the book progresses, it is revealed why each character is the way they are. I absolutely loved Guilty. I highly recommend giving it a shot! A must read!! Thank you to Zooloo’s Book Tours for providing a copy of this boom to honestly review on the blog tour. All opinions are my own and unbiased.
Ooh, this dark psych thriller is an absolutely cracking read! The writing style had me immersed in the story from page one.
I found myself tensing up every time I read a Mia chapter and I couldn’t wait to see how things were going to resolve for her. At one point I woke up in the night to carry on reading as I had to know what would happen next. Then there was Lindy. What a complex character. She brought the mystery to the table and slammed it down with full force. Then, when their worlds collided... that was it. I loved how we had the two contrasting characters; rich and glamorous, Mia, and hotel worker, Lindy.
There’s so much more I could say but I’m aware that spoilers could crop up. There are a lot of surprises and shocking moments. If you love dangerous secrets and heart pounding thrillers, ‘Guilty’ will have you on the edge of your seat. Fantastic psychological thriller!
This book was the most thrilling book I have read this year.
I absolutely loved every minute of it and I felt bereft when the story ended as I was absorbed in the story so much, and wow it was some ending.
I loved Lindy and Mia so much. I didn’t see the twists coming but they were terrifyingly brilliant.
I couldn’t put the book down and read it until the early hours of this morning. What a story!
I recommend this book if you want some escapism and a brilliant storyline masterpiece created by Sadie, what a magnificent writer. I can’t wait to read the next one!
A book has never made me gasp in terror so much! Thank you for the experience Sadie Ryan, you are one stunning writer and creator of fabulous characters!
I had heard amazing reviews about this book so wanted to see for myself but seems like I'm in the minority.
I tried to get into this book. But even halfway in I wasn't as invested. This book is told in 2 PoVs and while Mia's was at least a little interesting, Lindy's pov just made me want to dnf. I know there's a reason why Lindy is the way she is but I had guessed the reason 2 chapters in and I still just wanted to dnf.
The book also was a little unrealistic and you do need to suspend your disbelief at times.
What really bothered me was the ending though. I felt that I had just started to get invested and the author completely changed what I as a reader knew. And not in a good way.
When hotel housekeeper Lindy spots Mia, the wife of a TV star, she becomes obsessed with her, convinced that Mia has the perfect life, where Lindy’s life is in tatters.
When she finds out the truth, that Mia’s marriage is a sham, her husband is abusive and she is terrified, Lindy hatches a plan. Each of the women will kill the other one’s husband.
There’s not really much depth to the story, but it was an ok read. The title didn’t really fit as we don’t learn much about Lindy’s job at all, and the ending was gripping, but felt like it belonged in a different story with both MCs having a total personality transformation that didn’t fit with anything we had previously learned about them.
3 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Sadie Ryan and Joffe for an ARC in return for an honest review.
