My friend from a time that feels so distant is as beautiful and as kind as she was over five years ago, but her eyes now hold a confidence that didn’t use to shine there. Lana has returned as a fully independent woman sporting something hard that’s masking the pain that I know was etched in by her past.
And fuck if she isn’t sexier than I ever remember her being.
But after vanishing from my life without any sort of explanation or a goodbye, she’s come back home, and not for just a few nights of pleasure. She’s on a mission. One that has her diving into a world where danger lurks in its every corner. And even though I wish she wouldn’t keep her distance, I also know it might be for the best. Losing someone I care about again isn’t an option. But as more time passes, more worry creeps into my gut.
And when Lana allows me to get close to her in a way that destroys all boundaries of friendship, it becomes even harder to stay away.
Or rather fucking impossible.
LANA
I’m back home.
Trying to bring justice to my family should have been my hardest challenge once back in Texas. But the hardest part of being back home has been staying away from the friend I left behind all of those years ago.
I expected Blane to hold a massive grudge against me for disappearing without a word, but I should have known he would be there for me.
The grieving college student I met back then has become a brawny biker with a roughness and an intensity that slightly darkens his expression, but he instantly becomes like a rainbow to me, bringing colors to my dull, lonely days. That’s why it’s too bad that I have to keep him at a safe distance. And I was succeeding with flying colors until our chemistry explodes and I let myself crumble under the weight of my craving for him.
Now everything has lost its clarity, and the only part of my mind that’s not blurry with uncertainty is the one reminding me how much I want Blane in my life.
C.M. Marin is an author of romantic suspense and contemporary romance.
She’s a small-town girl all the way. Quiet and nature are all she really needs… as long as there are books and a box full of assorted teas within easy reach!
She hasn’t found her own happily ever after yet, but she sure loves to write about falling in love and finding forever. With a touch of suspense, just the right amount of sexiness, and plenty of love, she writes books for every lover of romance around the world!
Romance genre: MC Part of a series: Yes (Chaos Chasers MC) Length: 426 pages
Plot: The action of this story takes place on top of the action from some of the other books. Lana is a friend of Blane's from grief counseling back when they were both in college. They were really good friends and then Lana just disappeared. Blane, who is an excellent hacker, tried to find her, but couldn't. Then some years later, (six, I think?), she calls him and asks for help. She's looking to get revenge against the person she believes killed her family. Her only condition is that she won't tell Blane any details, including the name of the man responsible; she doesn't want him hurt. Blane is relentless though, because this time he intends to keep Lana.
Character development: Lana was infuriating! I understand that she wanted to keep Blane safe, even when he was only her friend and certainly after he became more, but at some point she should have noticed/acknowledged that his cub was perfectly set up to go against (and *had* gone against) the Spiders, drug traffickers, and the like. They were the exact people who could help her, and putting herself in danger instead of spreading the job around to people better suited was not smart. I couldn't believet hat the story went on for nearly two years! As to that - I found the back and forth between the different timelines confusing. I understood that we were going from present to past and back again, but the time in between jumps kept changing and I simply had to ignore it at some point and just make do. Blane was an absolute dirty-talking sweetheart though! I loved him <3
Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes
This was... fine... after waiting this long for Blane's story though I think my expectations were too high. Lana is borderline TSTL for most of the story - don't get me wrong she is badass at times - but a lot of her characterization is built around what are essentially questionable choices. Blane is... different than I expected him to be? Not bad. Just different. I wanted more of their emotional relationship developed on the page - those were my favorite parts of the book! Their chemistry is solid but nothing outrageous steam-wise. It dragged in the middle which definitely through the pacing of the story off. I am still curious about the last book that is rumored for the series too.
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Steam: 🔥🔥.5 Tropes: friends to lovers, second chance, motorcycles, revenge plot Subgenre: contemporary romance CW/ TW: some language, moderate violence
This is the 5th book in this amazing series and is Blane and Lana’s story. These two were best friends until Lana left town without a word, and now she is back seeking justice for her family, and Blane is now a member to The Chaos Chasers MC. This story is an emotional roller coaster throughout, as well as having explosive and undeniable chemistry. This is a well written tale which is intriguing, and with danger, suspense, revenge, emotions, friends / lovers, 2nd chances, and love. I was hooked throughout this riveting and addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I have been waiting for blane story for a while after reading the other books it was a great read the first half of the book make sure you read the first 4 books as reference a bite and time lines are there and dont read tired as can be confusing with the different time jumps and past references. Blane and lana are great leads in this one I did miss the other ladies as not in this one much. Fantastic read 5 stars can't wait for Melvin and chloes story hope we dont have to wait to long
Yet another brilliant book. I actually thought it was the last in the series, till I got to the very end of it and the author announced one for the end of the year, Melvin grr. Lots of things got sorted in this book, which was Blane & Lana's and excellent of course, same as the other 4. Love the fact they are long stories too, hate it when a book just gets started and then it's winding down. Ah well, off to find a new book Sue P
Characters did not ring true for me from their previous appearances in this series, creating a weak foundation for this book. The only reason I read the book was for snippets to help me understand the next. Too much stupid-behaviours repetition from the characters made this even less enjoyable. And dear god…if writing about bikers, we NEVER say we ‘drive’ our damn bikes (as has been said in all books in this series)!
Blane and Lana met through grief counselling in college, thn on day she disappeared without a goodbye, Blane tried to find her but found nothing but when she calls out the blue needing help for revenge against t her family's murderer he cant keep away no matter how much she tries too keep him away. well written engaging, action, desires and more.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The meet at one of the most terrible times in their lives, losing people they loved. Blame and Lana never forgetting each other. Lana was out to get the person or persons who killed her family. Blane and his club wanted to help. When things get bad they finally work together. The shocked in this book is Lana was chasing the wrong man. Great book excellent read
absolutely loved it! and hoooly shit, that twist at the end, I did not see that one coming 🤯 can't wait for the next book, but I'm guessing it'll be a while 😢 think I'm gonna reread the whole series now because you know hot bikers and what not. love love love and totally recommend! ❤️❤️❤️
