The Waymaker #2

The Way to Peace

Rate this book
Alex Hall was everything Lily Carson had ever wanted in a man, if only he’d see her as more than his best friend’s little sister.

Lily Carson was off limits. Not only had he sworn he’d protect her in her brother’s absence, but Alex could never guarantee his violent past wouldn’t resurface and endanger those he loved.

Forced into the illegal fighting ring at sixteen, Alex’s past is littered with violence and fear. It's a far cry from the life of small town pastor he’s led for years, his name even changed to distance from the man he used to be. He promised Lily’s brother he’d protect her in his absence, but he can’t deny the feelings he’s developed. And when men he prayed he’d never see again show up on their doorstep, Alex must reckon with his past if Lily is to be part of his future.

I was torn about how to rate this book. The spiritual content was stellar deserving of five stars, but if I was rating it on other things, it would've been three stars at the most. I settled on four stars.

This book included entirely too much back story for my taste. The author likely wanted to make sure readers could read book two as a standalone without missing anything, but I think it would've better not to get into any of what happened in book one. This story would've held it's own without the constant references to the previous story.

There were bothersome contradictions in the book, as well. For example, we're told Lily rode in to the church/school with her cousin, so she needed to rent a horse in order to get home. Then, somehow, her horse was boarded that morning because it was raining, so she needed to pick him up. There were several of these small contradictions that pulled me out of the story. I can ignore one such error, but when you get a number of them, it's harder to pretend they don't exist.

Finally, I find myself back at the spiritual content. This book is worth the read for that alone, so if you can get past the minor irritations of the other stuff, give it a read.

I’d like to start by saying that this is probably one of the best covers I’ve seen from a new release all year, I don’t know what it is, but I’m obsessed with it haha

I really enjoyed Alex and Lily’s story. I felt the romance plot and the character development were well thought out and engaging (the subplots were as well, for that matter). I was already excited for their story after getting a glimpse in the last book, and Malory Ford met and exceeded my expectations! I loved that the forces keeping them apart were so multifaceted; my biggest pet peeve as a reader is when the obstacle to a relationship is too easily overcome. The emotional and spiritual depth of these characters and their story were so lovely and it made the characters feel so relatable. Their struggles felt real and plausible, and their faith was almost tangible. It made their happily ever after so much sweeter to read.
I didn’t read much of the sneak peek at the end (I never do), but from what I gleaned scanning through, I am so excited for the next story!:)

The author has penned a wonderful story full of longings, regret over the past, danger, and romance. This is Lily Carson and Alex Hall's story and the character development is excellent. Alex has promised Lily's brother that he will look after her while her brother is away. Lily has feelings for Alex and longs for him to look at her as someone other than her brother's little sister. Alex has a dangerous past and has changed his name and attempted to forge a new life yet always looking over his shoulder fearing his past will come to call. When it does, can he protect Lily from the danger and can they develop a loving relationship that will grow into a HEA. Be sure to read this great story to find out.

God Can Change Lives

When the town Pastor has a past he wants hidden, but his future is threatened by that past. He has changed from the young man he was, to one who he knows he is supposed to be. Only he is afraid the past will not leave him alone. Will also put the people he cares about in danger. He refuses to show his true feelings for the woman he loves out of fear and concern.

Wonderful !

I have found another favourite author! Wit, charm, family, and characters with depth woven in and through an interesting story. There is drama and Christian thought and struggle. Tears and laughs mixed with hugs and pranks. Read and enjoy !
