The secluded rental cabin offers Jim Traynor exactly what he peace and quiet to finish his latest book, and maybe a little inspiration for a new series. There’s even a little dog named Buster to provide an adorable distraction. Buster’s owners, however, bring distraction of a very different kind. Jim’s determination to focus on his work doesn’t stop his delicious fantasies, but each new encounter with Julian and Michael makes him forcefully aware of the aching desire building within him.
Julian and Michael have built a wonderful life together. Then Jim’s arrival rocks it to its foundations. Julian is drawn to the quiet writer, aware of an intensifying connection between them. Michael feels that same magnetic pull, but remains haunted by the they’ve been down this road before. Reaching the end of it broke Julian’s heart, something Michael will not let happen again. He strives to be the strong one, but with every passing night, he’s falling for Jim just as hard as Julian is.
Both men know Jim can only hurt them if they let him in. The trouble is, Jim might already be through that door. If he is, the day will come when he’ll walk right back out of it.
Only this time, how many hearts will be broken?
*The bears featured in this story are strictly of the human variety. Any resemblance to bear shifters – okay, they’re furry – is purely coincidental.
K.C. Wells lives on an island off the south coast of the UK, surrounded by natural beauty. She writes about men who love men, and can’t even contemplate a life that doesn’t include writing. I don’t normally read MMM, in fact this is the second MMM book I have ever read. Lets be honest here, I read this book for the bears. I’m easy, you market a book as having bears in it, I will read it. Also that cover is damn gorgeous and drew me in.
“Are you in love with them?”[…] “Do they make your pulse race, your heart hammer? Do they make you feel weak at the knees? Does something flutter in your stomach when you’re away from them, a feeling of emptiness? Do you find yourself smiling when you think about them? And don’t tell me you don’t know what love is, because it permeates that book you haven’t finished yet. How else do you think you were able to write it? Because you’re writing about yourself, you idiot.”
Technically this should have checked all of my boxes beause: Three bears? Hell yes In a cabin in the middle of no where? Hell yes Two of the bears are in their 50s? Hell yes Daddy kink with two daddies? Hell yes
The fact that I didn’t absolutely love this one is all on me. I had a really good time reading this book and I was really into it, but something was missing for me, mostly sex scenes, I really wanted more of those.
Brief summary Jim is 36, a writer and has been celibate for years. He goes on a retreat in a cabin in the middle of the woods, where he meets the owners of the cabins, Julian, a painter who’s 50 years old and Michael a sculptor who’s 52 years old, they have been a couple for 25 years. The three of them start having sex and then they fall in love.
First, I absolutely adored Julian and Michael. They were really nicely fleshed characters and I really loved everything about them. They were really strong and gentle men. I had some problems with Jim though. He felt a little immature for someone who’s 36. He was really afraid of falling in love, so much that he had been celibate for ages but I never really understood him. I needed more character development on Jim’s side to understand him. I felt like Michael and Julian were better developed and were easier to understand and easier to understand why they acted the way they did, Jim is still kind of a mistery to me. I really loved how Michael and Julian acted their age and how they communicated and talked about everything… another point where Jim felt very immature, he really needs to learn how to communicate, he is 36 years old after all.
Second, they had a really cute dog, Buster, and I loved him.
Third, I loved the different Stephen King references sprinkled in the book. I’m a really big fan of Stephen King so they made me smile.
Fourth, I absolutely adored the setting. Everything was described so well that I could feel like I was there and I really wished I was, it seemed beautiful.
Fifth, I really enjoyed how Julian and Michael were an unit and how it extended to Jim. Once I got over the fact that I wasn’t sure that Jim really wanted to be with them, I enjoyed the build up to their relationship. I enjoyed how Jim seemed to fit perfectly with them.
Sixth, I love the use of pictures of a cabin between the chapters, it fit the book and the characters so well.
My niggles with the book
First, I didn’t really love how their relationship progressed. I thought it was a bit strange how they got together, and Julian and Michael came on a bit too strong for me some times, mostly because I wasn’t really sure if Jim was really into them at first. We didn’t really to see Jim really want to be with them and desire to be with them, less than we got to see Julian and Michael want to be with Jim.
Second, as I mentioned before, the sex scenes, or lack of them, just didn’t work for me. There was so much fade to black in this books, or scenes that were just never mentioned at all. At some point, there was a list of all the positions they tried together but we never got to see any of them, just why??? Why tell us about them if you’re not going to write about those scenes in more details, thats just foreplay for readers and foreplay that doesn’t even end with an orgasm, which isn’t apprecuated by me. Also the sex scenes we do get (well the three of them, one is just Michael and Julian, one is the first time the three of them have sex and one is the first time they try double penetration, Jim being the one penetrated. I have nothing to say about the first time they get together, I loved that sex, it was damn hot and everything about it worked. But oh man, that double penetration scene. Is it possible that these people have never heard of prep?? There is a lot of mentions of them using lube, but they never prep Jim. Michael and Julian just put lube on their dicks and jam both of their dicks inside Jim. Jim who was celibate for ages. Jim who was double penetrated for the first time. And Michael and Julian both have big dicks. That took me out of the scene so much. I can’t imagine how much the lack of prep would hurt. Lube isn’t enough, you need to prep too.
Third, Jim says he never fantazied about daddy kink, ever. But during sex, he randomly said the word daddy and now he suddently want Julian and Michael to be his daddies. That didn’t make any sense to me. I just never got why they were into daddy kink or how it fit their relationship. It just felt like the author knew that daddy kink has been very popular lately so they just randomly threw in the words daddy and boy. But Julian, Michael and Jim’s dynamic wasn’t one of a typical daddies/boy relationship at all.
I did have a very good time reading this book and it was fun and sweet but I just wanted more from it.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
Originally released chapter by chapter for KC Wells’ newsletter subscribers Bears in the Woods is now available as an ebook, as well as in audio. Beautifully performed by John Solo, he brings these three very different men to life.
Thank goodness I was able to listen to this story in its entirety, because if I'd had to wait for monthly installments I would have gone crazy! (We know these three men are going to find a happily ever after, but the anticipation of waiting for KC Wells to give it to them would be too much for me LOL.)
This is a sweetly emotional story with very little angst. And, of course, KC Wells writes some of the hottest erotica I've ever read, and it's even better when we're talking ménage with a splash of kink!
Long-time couple Julian and Michael, while in a very satisfying relationship, are still missing the connection they experience when they bond with a third man.
Jim, who has been celibate for years, thinks he's in a good place. Once he meets Julian and Michael he realizes what he's been missing.
A friendship evolves between the three men, and their mutual sexual attraction can't be ignored. Julian and Michael gradually coax Jim into their bed, and all three of these confident men let down their walls.
I really appreciate the way this group communicates. Their honesty about both their emotions and their sexual needs is refreshing, and is simply a pleasure to read.
thank you to KC Wells for the audiobook copy of Bears in the Woods, it was provided for the purpose of my honest review
Bears in the woods is a low angst story about Jim, a writer who purposely chose to avoid any type of relationship, and Michael & Julian, two artists who have been married for the last 25 years, and who like to play from time to time with a third.
They are immediately attracted by the reserved man, and they want him. Despite his fears, the pull toward them is too strong for Jim.... So the three men start a ménage, that gonna be so much more they thought it would have been.
The story is nice, with some great steamy scene, but i missed something... I missed those sparkles that makes a book amazing. And it definitely needed a few more words at the end. It was too rushed.
Still i recommended if you are looking for something easy to read.
This is a sweet, sexy, and very hot menage, between married couple Julian and Michael (yay for a couple in their 50s) and Jim, who is renting a cabin from the men for a month away from it all to get his writing back on track.
Jim doesn't do relationships or one-night stands for that matter, and Julian and Michael are used to playing when both feel an attraction, with rules in place. It takes a bit of convincing to get the initially standoffish Jim to join them for cocktail hour one evening, but once the men make their attraction clear and Jim comes around, the fun really heats up! As the men get to know each other on a personal level, it's clear that Jim is different from prior play partners and they are all in deeper than they ever expected.
Great communication, minimal angst, and the growing emotional bond amongst the men balance out some very hot sex with just a hint of kink. Recommended for any m/m/m fan.
Jim is thirty-six, a successful author, and will spend a month in solitude in a cabin in Yosemite. He has a writers’ block, he has written detective stories but now his pages are blank.
The surroundings are beautiful and Jim knows it will be soothing for his mind. No noise, no people around, well maybe only two. The cabins are owned by Julian and Michael Ingram, husbands for a long time, they are fifty and fifty-two. They live in the house nearby.
When Michael is in search of Buster, their dog, he meets Jim. Michael invites him to their house that evening. Michael and Julian are both artists, working a different discipline. Now and then they have a third in their relationship, never for a long time. Never too close, they’ve been there and it almost broke them.
That even Jim is impressed by both men and their steady relationship. Jim becomes a regular guest and is flabbergasted when they invite him into their bed. Both bears are so beautiful and sexy, two bears… will this make him a cub?
What follows expands Jim’s horizon and his heart explodes in his chest, these men. Michael and Julian are more than smitten by Jim, he’s already in their hearts. It hurts to know he will leave soon.
That was a delicious story, imagine three bears in a bed having the best sexy time. It was not only sexually very attractive but also emotionally. Three artists together make a beautiful painting slash sculpture slash book.
A nicely written story, enough developed, a story focused on the three men and the development of their relationship. Threesomes can be a bit tricky to put on paper, all those parts have to be in the right place and the right direction to make it sexy, believable, and to make me feel it as a reader. Mission accomplished!
This book was such a ride, I struggled a few times with the whole push and pull concept here and there were things in dialogues I didn’t really liked. I also have to say that Michael and Julian kind of annoyed me a bit, they are in there fifties and act like children at some points (mostly Julian), that really wasn’t for me. But on the other hand I couldn’t really put that book down. The sex scenes between Jim,Julian and Michael were hot and I enjoyed them. I did feel the connection between the characters and I kind of liked their dynamic, when they all were together, but still, something felt off for me in this book.
I love K. C. Wells. She’s a great author and I was really excited about this book. I didn’t even read the blurb for the book. I saw hot bears on the cover and who wrote it and grab it up.sooooo
I don’t like Daddy kink. I happen to love humiliation kink so I’m not judging, I just don’t enjoy grown men calling each other daddy. This would have been a five star read for me within this element.
This was my first K.C. Wells book, and it won't be my last because let me just appreciate the fact that she wrote a story, a beautiful story about two married men in their fifties and neither one was creepy, nor overly fit for their age. They were two regular guys in their mid-fifties who finally realized that they were missing something, and they found it together with Jim.
Jim was a writer who just needed to escape and to do that he decided to go to an isolated cabin away from people and just be. When a whimper on his front deck startles him Jim comes face to face with Buster the dog and his owner, Michael. After a small crisis leaves Jim going to Michael’s place for help, he meets Julien, Michael’s husband. Crisis averted and everything handled Jim is left with nothing to do so he takes up Julien on his offer for drinks. For someone who doesn't like "peopling" Jim finds it so easy being around both men that he starts to realize that maybe there is an attraction there for not only him and these two men but for Julien and Michael as well with him.
Julien and Michael have had a wonderful life, a life that works for them and they both know that at the end of the day that no matter who they bring to their bed it is them two in the end. That is until the quiet writer Jim enters their life, and they start to realize that what they might have been doing all along with these men in their bed is filling a whole they didn't even know existed.
Bears in the Woods had low angst, tender moments and a few seriously spicy ones that followed. Julien, Michael and Jim came together in such a beautiful way that it was almost impossible not to fall in love with their story.
Kc Wells is one of my favourite authors and I was really looking forward to this because I love older guys and bigger guys....This one is just perfect..Julian And Michael are married but they've always taken someone else to their bed and when they meet Jim they want him...This is an easy read and when they all get together it is perfect...Jim really takes to them both...A definitie re-read and one that will be going on my bookshelf in paperback x
~~~~ Michael verdrehte die Augen. „Tja, das war ungefähr so subtil wie ein Zugunglück.“ ❤️ ~~~~
Jim ist Schriftsteller. Ein ziemlich einsamer Schriftsteller, aber auch nur weil er schon genug gescheiterte Beziehungen gesehen hat. Deshalb hält er sich lieber von der Liebe fern. Und weil ihn eine kleine Kreativitätskrise voll im Griff hat, flieht er in eine abgelegene Hütte um dort vielleicht etwas Inspiration zu finden.. Was er dort findet, ist jedoch so viel mehr! ❤️🔥
Michael, Julian und Jim (und natürlich Buster) sind einfach wundervoll. Eigentlich bin ich ja kein Fan von Daddy Geschichten.. diese war jedoch so liebevoll, ruhig und sexy, dass ich das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen konnte.
This book was well on it's way to being a 5 star read for me until the ending...at 87%..ugh
I'll try to share my thoughts without spoilers, but there may be one.
So, let's start out with the positives.
1. I loved the setting of this book and I loved the relationship between Michael and Julian. They've been together for 25 years and the author does an excellent job portraying a relationship between 2 people who know each other so well.
2. I loved that all 3 were creatives. Most authors pair a creative with someone who works a regular 9 to 5. I enjoyed that each of them were of a creative mindset and each could appreciate the other's art.
3. I enjoyed all 3 characters. I do feel like I needed more information on Jim. Did we ever even get an age? I didn't realize that he was younger than the other 2 until much later in the book.
4. There isn't much angst. There are some back and forth worries from all 3 men, but the angst level is about a 2 out of 5 for me.
Things I didn't enjoy.
1. The Daddy/boy dynamic. It felt out of place and came out of nowhere. This definitely wasn't kink. It was just the dynamic and it was only used during the intimate scenes.
2. The ending. The ending really ruined the experience of this book for me. I'm still mad about it hours later. This book literally ends on a dp scene. A DP scene!!!!!!! There's no epilogue. We don't know if Jim finished the new book or if he stayed or how their lives progressed. I invested a lot of time and energy into these characters and to leave things as they were just feels a bit disrespectful to readers.
3. I also don't understand why it ended at 87%. The author included a part of the new release coming soon, but again, this book would have been amazing with a different ending.
*I received an ARC, but all thoughts and opinions are my own*
RECENSIONE A CURA DI EVELYNE L’ultima uscita di K. C. Wells è “Orsi nei boschi”, una lettura che ha catturato la mia attenzione sin dalle prime pagine. Era da molto che non mi trovavo davanti una storia di questo tipo: semplice, fluida e sentimentale. Anche se il tutto ruota intorno all’incontro e innamoramento tra i protagonisti, ho apprezzato come una storia lineare, che non presenta alti e bassi importanti e svolte particolarmente inaspettate, sia comunque riuscita ad attirare la mia attenzione e mantenerla costante fino all’ultima parola. È un tratto caratteristico dei libri di questa autrice che mi è sempre piaciuto, perché in un modo o nell’altro è sempre riuscita a farmi amare le sue opere. Continua sul nostro blog!
I can tell this author has spent some time watching Will Angel. Michael and Julian looking like some famous p*rn stars, not to mention some lines directly from some of their scenes... that would be quite the coincidence. I suppose authors get their inspiration from somewhere.
I felt like giving this book 3 stars was a disservice to a pretty decent book... until the end. If there was a book that REALLY needed an epilogue, it was this one. It felt like the author forgot a chapter or even just a couple paragraphs. It just ended really abruptly and the HEA felt incomplete.
I didn't really connect with this book. I'm not sure why exactly. I didn't buy into this relationship as quickly as I think the author wanted us to.
Jim wasn't written as though he was all that approachable. And then, suddenly, he's interested in Julian and Michael. Or how about Jim has been celibate for years, isn't into daddy kink, but yet calls them 'daddy' right off the bat and then is double penetrated without any preparation whatsoever after only having sex a couple of times?!?!?!? Yeah, I'm not buying it.
This was very insta-love, which is quickly becoming a not-so-favorite trope of mine. They had a HEA so that's something though.
This is such a perfect bear, daddy mmm story. It sounds like there's a lot going on but you're gently eased in as Jim settles into his cabin that he's rented for the month to allow him to finish writing his book. All he wants is to be alone, left to his work in the quiet. Julian and Michael have a wonderful relationship, happily together for many years and even occasionally playing with one or more people. Though, the rule is they always both like the person and they play together. Jim is an instant draw to both men (and even their dog Buster!) and they happily welcome him into their home for cocktails and just easy friendship. Jim has been alone for a long time but Julian and Michael are a temptation that he cannot resist when they offer something that he had never considered and it all becomes so much more than any of them could have expected. I love the emotion that comes across from all the men involved in this story. You can really feel the history and love between Julian and Michael, the ease that they communicate often not needing words to get their meaning across. Jim's confusion and reluctance comes from not experiencing anything like this before but Julian and Michael are clear in it being Jim that leads their dance, anything they do is with his say so. Their interactions in the bedroom are damn hot and flow naturally between all three men as though they were all meant to be together. It's great that all men are of an older age and are so happy with the way that they look, Jim needing a little encouragement after not being with anyone for so long. The book cover definitely does all of the characters justice! Along with the beautiful relationship is the stunning setting of the story, KC Wells shows off the location in a great way along with the characters love for it. Definitely a recommended read that I think everyone will love. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Bears in the Woods is a delicious romance by KC Wells. And yes, if you enjoy bears, you will enjoy this story.
This one involves Julian and Michael who are married, finding Jim and wanting him. Julian and Michael have always liked to play with a third, but with Jim, they end wanting to keep him.
The bears are older and are a great mix with the younger Jim. I adore everything about the relationship. It starts great, evolves naturally, and ends happily.
I love the author's writing as usual and I can always depend on getting a satisfying story from KC. Just don't expect a ton of sex in this one. It's there, but a lot of it is mentioned after the fact. But, what is there is hot, including a dp scene!
Add in the beautiful setting and it just gets better. The atmosphere surrounding the cabins is wonderfully illustrated and delightful to read.
Bears in the Woods is a great choice the next time you're in the mood for a feel good menage that starts with an established couple. This KC Wells book is pure fun.
kc wells makes super sweet, realistic & hot stories and the way Jhon solo did the shy nearly silent gasps and wispers was super fitting cute and pulled me so far into the story it was as if I was right there. 10/10 would recommend
its my 2nd read (actually i listened to it this time) and I love the story!!!!
I would have loved more moments with dialogue and inner thoughts about the chemistry & yearning between jim with each papa bear 🐻 alone to showcase the buildup of their bonds and the falling on love. not only lust
1 star detracting cus the daddy kink was suuuuper superficial cus it was only dirty talk there was no other aspect of bieng taken care of and that makes the dirty talk cringe for me. and it can be done so well and romantic sweet and sexy to read wich this lacked
but all in all i stilI love it enough to listen to this over and over I imagine. lets see when the next reread is
I adored this story so much, my only wish is that it were longer. The guys are wonderful and getting to see the relationship develop is stunning, I liked how it wasn't an instant decision and that they all had their own fears to work through.
The setting is beautiful too with the cabins and the mountains, exploring nearby sights and enjoying the scenery together. Getting to know each other's interests and work as all rather creative people.
Jim's writing, Julian's art and Michael's sculpting are all incredible to see explored as inspired by their time together. The painting, Scuplture and a story such an interesting and fun way to see their growth. How their feelings have moved past lust and beginning to see a life with all three together.
Some light angst, but beautiful discussions throughout and understanding. Also incredible steamy scenes and some kink too, which seemed fitting.
Overall an entertaining and heartwarming read, full of a lovely romance to a happy ending 💕
Full disclosure.. these Bears hit all my Buttons! Here we have two destined to become three! Jim is our writer ending a long award winning series and needing some peace and quiet as well some inspiration.. well lets just say he finds some sweet inspiration in our older Bear couple Michael and Julian.. I love how organically the relationship forms with a little help from Buster the dog! Michael and Julian play around with others a lot so they did not go into this looking for a permanent third. they are deeply in love and do not need a third but they have so much love to offer the right one!! This is told in all three of their POV so you can to feel each of their insecurities and desires! Julian is so enthusiastic almost like a puppy, it is adorable! Michael has to keep him in check! This is all new for Jim but he dives right in once he makes his decision to go for it! These three are Steamy together!! Very descriptive scenes here!! Yes! I received an ARC of this book and I highly recommend if you are looking for a Sweet, Steamy, Poly Bear Love Story!
Bears in the Woods is a delightful and super steamy story about three men: Jim, Michael and Julian.
I imagine writing menage stories is hard, especially with an established couple involved, because the author has to make the connection believable, and the "newcomer" has to feel an equal partner to the others already in a relationship. K.C. Wells did just that, made me a believer in what Jim, Michael and Julian found together. It was supposed to be just sex and only for the duration of Jim's stay at the cabin, but the three of them started to spend time with each other even outside of bed, talking and bonding, so, unsurprisingly, pesky feelings got involved.
There was a lot of sex in the story - all consuming chemistry and passion- but there was also an incredible emotional connection. I really felt how strongly Jim, Michael and Julian cared about each other, how deep their feelings were and how much they wanted to be together.
This was a rather quick read, with some humor and sweetness, heaps of steam and a whole lot of emotions. Great writing, three distinct, lovable characters and so much fun... in and outside of the bedroom.
Jim is finally somewhere with peace and quiet; he can hopefully finish his book and finally move on to a new series. When he meets the cabin owners he is staying in, Jim never expects to find something more. Julian and Michael have a great life together and occasionally enjoy playing with new people. They never expected Jim to make his way into their hearts.
Jim, Julian, and Michael were great together; they heat up the sheets and are sweet and cuddly. All of them have scars from the past that they are trying to forget but to move on together, they will have to confront their fears. Overall, this was a pretty low-angst book with many hot scenes together.
Goldilocks would have loved these three bears but not as much as I did. Actually, to be correct, there's two bears and a cub. Loved all the characters, loved the hurt/comfort, loved the sex scenes (super hot), and loved the love story. Oh and the setting on the outskirts of Yosemite Park in the winter. I could smell the clean air and the pine trees, the author described everything so well.
If you have any interest in bears and polyamory, by all means pick this up.
I really enjoyed this! I love stories with older, more mature characters, and this scratched the itch. I'm not sure that the kink totally worked for me in this story in terms of how it progressed, but it was still a perfectly nice read.
tropes/tags: daddy kink, threesome m/m/m, talk of past experiences with other partners, cabin in the woods, artist/writer/sculptor
Amazing daddy kink, poly romance! Great storyline, beautiful writing and wonderful, well-rounded MC’s. It’s been a while since I’ve read an mmm romance I’ve loved this much. I really liked that the characters were a bit older than we normally get. These are mature, intriguing and charming men with quite a bit of life experience under their belt. The relationship builds up very gradually, starting from a physical attraction but with a great emotional connection as well between all three men. I loved that even though Michael and Julian have been together for years, and quite happily so, you never get the impression that Jim is a third wheel or somehow less than. Michael and Julian were simply looking for a bit of fun, and Jim is persuaded to go along, but then, of course, they really click and deeper feelings develop…but will all three of them will be willing to take a risk on a new love, a new life? I loved how gradually and absolutely genuine all of it felt, very nuanced writing and heartfelt emotions. This is a book to savor and reread.
Cute Doggie + Bacon = Bears! This was a lusty romantic story between withdrawn Writer Jim and married sexy bears Julian & Michael. Actually, there was more lust than romance here. I still thought the tale was interesting enough and I liked the MCs. Although, I would have liked a little more realistic hesitation or reluctance with Jim’s character. He seem to embrace the Bears quickly for someone that was a bit of a recluse. Overall, a good enough read. Rating: 3.5⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was an enjoyable read! It was a very sweet and steamy story about two becoming three. Michael and Julien are married and often bring men into their bed to play. Jim is a loner and rents a cabin in the woods for a month to get away from the city and focus on his writing, he just wants to be left alone. Until he meets the happy couple and starts spending time with them. They connect right away and things heat up between them pretty quickly. They steamed up the sheets! This book had some smoking hot scenes that were nicely interlaced with the deeper connection that was building between them. If you are looking for a sweet and very hot book with a really nice connection between all the characters, give this book a read!
DNF at 35.5%. Maybe this plot could have worked in an erotica book, but as a menage romance it was an uphill battle almost from the beginning. On one hand, you have this picture-perfect couple who is looking for a random third to spice up their sex life. On the other hand, you have this unsocial, grumpy, OCD writer with very little relationship experience. If you want to tell us the story of how they met and found their mutual HEA, some major changes in altitude and personality need to occur on both sides, and they need to occur outside the bedroom. That's not the direction the plot took at all. Instead, they offered him no-strings-attached sex and he agreed, despite it being the exact opposite of what his personality up to this point indicated he'd do. I love the idea of a gay menage romance book with older MCs, but none of the characters here were particularly likeable, and it's not that the author did not try. Jim's inner monologue made him come off as arrogant and cold. Maybe if we knew the specifics that made him swear off relationships he'd be more sympathetic. We don't and he's not. As for Julian and Michael, they represent the very annoying stereotype of the promiscuous gay guys who are led by their small head. And not due to their monogamish ways. It seemed to me like they were determined to get into Jim pants even before they knew he's gay, how he looked and whether they like him or not. Even when they discover they both like him (surprise!), it's more to do with his good looks and availability than his personality or a real connection, because he did not really share anything intimate. I expect that some readers would have issues with me giving such a harsh review without finishing the book. "How do you know", they might reasonably argue, "that all the flaws you've found in the plot are not fixed on the last 64.5%?". This is a legitimate point of view and might work for some. From my personal experience, if I'm not sold on the characters and plot by roughly 30% it's not going to change, and any radical changes later would just seem forced and fake.
