This is a fun book. Set in 1945, a retired cop, now a detective faces some rough characters. Lou Grimes is a likable guy. You may find yourself feeling sorry for him even while respecting him.

This book has a couple of story lines which add an unexpected twist and a whole new component which brings in some interesting humor.

Intriguing story and good writing.
