I caught the feels...

Y'all, I really liked this one. I love how HH's contemporary Omegaverse world always has such a twisted take. That Alphas and Omegas are the minorities, that they are expected to act like normal Betas, suppress their urges. This isn't the dark days of Alpha's dragging off Omegas to claim like neanderthals. In fact in this one we see that there is actually ugly prejudices against Alphas and Omegas, like they are less than. Our couple has to deal, separately, with vicious bigots.

I loved Jack and Amy. She has crushed on him and loved him since she was a little girl, growing up with him as her older brother's best friend. Life and terrible circumstances pulled them apart and yet bring them back together 5 years later. Amy loves and supports Jack through his self-loathing and grief, while he shows her how truly wonderful it is to be an Omega (and not just with his knot lol).

They had such an uphill battle. I cried so many times as they fought through it all. In the end, they found peace, love, and acceptance. One of my favorites by Hannah Haze so far.

Even though this was an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight.

3.5 stars *** I really appreciate HH's inclusion of food and the notion of feeding the people you love in her books. It has actually encouraged me to cook again this past weekend, and I feel a bit more like myself for it. This book was kind of sad reality look into this particular omegaverse. Both these characters are very lonely. I like this world HH has created, and I am glad a decided to read another of her books.

On another note, and maybe this is an American, millennial Thing, but seeing the name "Jack Johnson" was almost laugh at loud funny because of the musical artist. I had to skip over the name for whole book to keep my composure.

One pet-peeve and maybe it just my dyslexia, but HH uses (IMO) misleading pronouns in a scene in this book. It bothered me in the last book too. This was a scene with the FMC and her horse, and I was just SMH like why the f is talking about the horse like this and had to jump back multiple paragraphs to interfere who the "he" is. It throws me out of the story.

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was fairly clean, with occasional typos that will hopefully be fixed in the retail version. The world building was okay but not especially vivid. I did not get a strong sense of place or culture in this village. The characterization was good, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals with nuance. The development of the romantic relationship was hot and involved a lot of pining. The heat level was around three chili peppers.
There was little external plot to speak of, so the pacing dragged as a consequence. This novel contained really high levels of poorly justified angst and low stakes, which is pretty much the opposite of the narrative structure that I typically enjoy in a romance novel. I personally do not understand what is so taboo about dating your brother’s best friend. Literally zero eyebrows would be raised in my small town if I was dating my brother’s best friend. It is not like I was dating my dead husband’s brother or my ex-boyfriend’s dad or something. Something like that would cause tons of gossip. This novel used the Yearning trope, the Death in the Family trope, and the Brother’s Best Friend trope. The world building, plot, and pacing were two to three stars. The characterization was four stars. The development of the romantic relationship was three stars because of the eye roll inducing angst. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of three stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy high angst and low stakes in their romances. I will probably read the next novel by the author, because I really enjoyed her Alpha Escort Service romance. I do not plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Jack and Amy. The author pulled me in with the omegaverse story line and kept me glued to the pages with the love story as the the two battle to find their love and acceptance. She paints her scenes perfectly bringing all the feels in this great read. Loved and recommend.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

Another great Omegaverse story from Hannah Haze. I'm really enjoying the soft & steamy romance of HH's books, and this one does not disappoint. The dynamic between the two MC's was great, the characters are well drawn and believable. There is a bit of angst, tension, and really good build up before we get our HEA, with a couple of background characters adding to the drama and struggle for our two MC's. It's enjoyable for me when the characters have to work for it a bit, and Jack & Amy seem to have obstacles coming at them from all sides (including Jack himself). It makes the, very hot, sexy times and following strife that much more worth it, and while it's admittedly not high stakes drama, I wouldn't expect it to be since this is a self-proclaimed soft romance. I want the sugar of that right along with the spice (and the sexy times are very spicy!), when I jump into this type of story.

Spoiler's - The book is modern society, but Omegaverse, and I really liked how Alphas/Omegas seem to be very taboo for the rest of the Beta - majority, of society. A lot of Omegaverse stories don't have that (at least that I've read), because usually the Alpha's are top dog. While the Alpha's are still "Alpha's" here, they don't seem to be thought of as the "most worthy/best of society." The way it was characterized, I thought added to the forbidden nature of the dynamic between the two MC's, as well as helping to flesh out the world building. The people in their town are not very nice and treat Amy with a lot of contempt, which was emotional and I really felt for her. There also seems to be a prejudice against Alpha's, but especially against Jack due to his past as well as his Alpha status. We get to see this from Amy's family too (her parents and brother, who is Jack's best friend), which should be the people who love and defend her no matter what; especially given the inherent vulnerableness of her Omega status. But neither her parents or her brother seem to treat her the way she deserves (Omega or not). But I love how she was a fighter, and determined to get what she wants and basically live her life happily regardless of everyone else's beliefs and prejudices. Or maybe despite them. And she treats most everyone she interacts with nicely, friendly, and with joy. She's a good person, and it made her character really likable.

There are also several flashbacks throughout the story, which I loved. It helped me to better understand Jack & Amy's motivations and to really see their love story as believable. They have a history, and while circumstances have had them separated for a few years, knowing they have a past made them finally getting together more worth it for me. If I didn't have that, their romance would have seemed forced, so I'm glad that we get to see the build up to Jack's departure before we see him come back and fight his draw to Amy, (but of course fall in love anyway).

All in all, this was a really enjoyable read that I would definitely recommend.

⚠️ Trigger Warnings ⚠️
MMC is an ex-con. He went to jail for beating someone up while drunk after High School graduation. Not described in detail, just a few lines and honestly not much of a trigger but if you’re sensitive, be warned.

Overall: 4⭐️
This book has been in my library for a little while now but I kept pushing it further down my TBR list. It might have been because the cover didn’t really appeal to me but i should have really known better than to judge a book by its cover after all these years.

This is one of the best non-shifter Omegaverse books I have ever read yet and I have read a several over the last month. I loved Jack (MMC) and have been calling him The Gentleman Alpha in my head. And Amy was not the typical silly MFC who makes you want to bang your head against something - despite her age (she’s 20). I expected some silliness but there was none and I am VERY appreciative. The combo of two sensible leads earned this book an extra star. I hope there’s more of this, Hannah Haze.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Amy is an omega - bullied at school, given a hard time by her brother and ignored by the one man who she's craved for most of her life.
Jack has returned to town to finalize his mother's estate. He wants to sell her house and get the hell out of town. He's never been popular - jailed for a crime he wasn't entirely responsible for - the last thing he wants to do is see Amy. She tries to be friendly to Jack, but he ain't having a bar of it, so acts gruff and rude.
One night he finds Amy huddled at his door in the freezing cold - She's in her heat and he has no choice but to "help" her out. It's going against everything he wants or needs - the least a confrontation with Amy's brother who was his best friend.
So are these two going to get their act together or are they going to give Cupid a run for his money.
An enchanting omegaverse story with emotion, uncertainty, hope and happily a positive result for these two youngsters.
Highly recommended for this author - the first time I have read her and definitely won't be the last.

Editor where art thou?

2.5/5

Contains some grammatical errors such as a “?/!” in place of a period & a whole paragraph repeated. Needs editing for a second edition.

Not a fan of Finn and his over pushiness about their relationship. Yeah that’s his sister and all but honestly he kind of treats her like crap and if that’s his true opinion of Jack I’m surprised they’re friends at all. The whole bit of Jack’s past was super vague. Never understood the flashback parts, they didn’t add to the story at all and really left more confusion than anything.

Also, why does the part of them being able to scent each other through blockers keep coming up if it was just going to be explained with “1 in 10,000” people. Yeah cause that makes total sense.

Some stories need brutal honesty, this is one. It was a good story underneath everything, and in my opinion had the potential to be an amazing series.

This was a fun Omegaverse story set on contemporary world and leans very heavily into the best friend’s sister trope. In the sense that, the hero is a very bad boy (ex-convict) and completely wrong for his best friend’s baby sister, and is warned away from her multiple times by his best friend, and is unable to stay from her during her heat. Anyway, at the end, everyone reconciles with this pairing and they mate.
Knocking off ratings due to the very annoying present tense wording. These are not exact words, but the entire book is very descriptive.. for instance: “She walks up the driveway and sees him standing at the door. He lifts his hand to say hello. She walks slowly and says hi to him.”.. And so on and so forth, everything in present tense. Reminded me very strongly of fan-fiction type stories you would find on Wattpad.
Giving this one 3.5 stars but Goodreads doesn’t do half stars. So I’ll give this one 4 stars.

3.5 stars for this sweet omegaverse This is definitely one of the sweeter omegaverse books I’ve ever read. I love dark romance and traditional omegaverse books but sometimes the sweet stories are what you need.

This mashes up brothers best friend and omegaverse. It stirs up the exact kind of angst you expect. A forbidden romance between two people who are biologically drawn toward each other.

Jack tries to do the right thing over and over again while Amy does her best to break his resolve. I prefer it when the H is the one who does the chasing, personally. It worked for this story in the brothers best friend forbidden aspect. It still made my heart ache every time he pushed her away or rejected her. That’s definitely a role reversal I’ve never seen in omegaverse.

Jack and Amy's Story . . .

Amy is an omega who has wanted Jack, her brother’s best friend, for almost all of her life. Now after 5 years Jack has come back to town to take care of family business. He walks to a local bar and scents the most amazing Omega. He tracks her over to the bar, but as the barmaid turns, he knows her. When she smiles and says his name, he remembers that this is Amy. He can’t have anything to do with her and, despite her attempts to be friendly and welcoming, he is cold to her.

When Amy goes into her heat, there is only one person she wants to help her through it. Will he turn his back on her? Or will he give in to relieve her misery? Amy has always wanted to be his and this time, she refuses to take no for an answer.

I loved their story. Grab your copy and see if Jack will finally stick around.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This book gives you a different take on an Omegaverse story. Jack and Amy are an alpha and omega who live in a world run by betas. They are subjected to ridicule, bullies and even problems from family. These two have always been attracted to each other but he denied all of his feelings for her. He is back in town and Amy is everything he has ever wanted or needed but he does not see how it can happen. When she needs him the most, Jack will have to decide what is most important to him. I thought that this was the closest to a love story I have ever read between an alpha and his omega. These two deserve their happy ending together

could have been good… but

This story fell short and I couldn’t finish it. It’s weird that the author explains everything around the town with detail but not feelings. There isn’t any back story to why people are rude and don’t like that she is an omega?! It’s weird that it even matters and her family seem like complete asses. It just didn’t pull me in enough I wanted know they end but not enough to have to read through all the random stuff to get to any type of personal details or emotion. That’s the best of sweet omega verse books they have all these primal and emotional feelings that mix. This story didn’t do that it was very clinical and almost monotone which is weird to say about a book but that’s how I felt even in my head I couldn’t come up with any feeling behind the words from the characters.

CUTE, SIMPLE OMEGA STORY.

This is your typical girl loves her brother's best friend story with the additional omegaverse touch. Jack has never noticed Amy, at least he mentally forbade himself to and after an incident where it landed him in jail, 4 or 5 years later, he's released and back in town. I have to say, the story's atmosphere and environment was absolutely depressing. The characters were also depressed, so it made me feel a little depressed too. Reason of why I didn't rate this highly? Apart from the sex, I don't really know what's connecting the two characters together. I don't see them going through any kind of development and the plot was stagnant.

Overall, made for an enjoyable gushy read. Nothing taxing on the brain.

Amy had always loved her older brother’s best friend. Then she realized she was an omega and the people in her town and her life treated her differently. Jack was back in town but the town seemed to still view him by the mistake he had made when he was a teen. When Jack first saw Amy all grown up and an omega he knew he had to have her but he knew he shouldn’t because she was his best friend’s sister. The exciting and interesting romance between Amy and Jack was full of turmoil and indecision, secrets and heartache and a past that they both couldn’t run from before they found their HEA. Good , strong characters with an emotional, exciting and interesting storyline.

DNF at like 50%. Idk firstly there’s just too much animosity towards alphas and omegas, like including from their own families, which caught me off guard because I don’t remember there being public hatred towards alphas and omegas in Haze’s other books. And they just never defend themselves? It was irritating. And what even is Jack’s personality? Silent and angry? It seems like he went to prison because he’s an alpha but they don’t explain what for (as far as I got). These characters just didn’t draw me in and it seemed like I was more than halfway done with the book and not much had even happened and I didn’t care to see what was going to happen.

So much potential

There was such great potential here. There were some beautiful descriptive moments in this book. Some great writing was used to describe the earthy smelling landscape and the knocking branches of the trees. I loved it. But then the human interactions and what was supposed to be these pivotal moments were just glossed over and summed up in a sentence or two. I was so disappointed.

Just as angsty as you’d guess from the title

The writing in this is really beautiful — the imagery in this books is really well crafted, right from the get-go. The trope here is “friend’s sister” and boy does the hero fight against his attraction to the heroine. If you’re up for that trope, this one is really, really good. The characters are super likable, the story is good, and the steamy scenes are excellent.

3.5 ⭐'s

This book was good and bad equally I have no idea where to start..

The parts I did not appreciate; the way the main characters repeatedly used one another's titles. Sure there's something about an omega calling her alpha 'alpha' but when she doesn't use his name at all when they're intimate and him saying she's "an omega" the entire time,, it feels as if they're detached from one another.

I did however enjoy the plot twist. I did come out of this with a bunch of quotes that I love.

This book had a very distinct vibe to it that I really enjoyed. I don't know if it was the small village setting in England, the 3rd person POV, or the writing style Hannah Haze has, but I really enjoyed reading this book for the vibes alone.

I think the actual story was also good, but it did feel a little short in regards to relationship development outside of their instinctual drawl to each other. I wish we could have seen them in a relationship a bit longer before the epilogue.

Started off strong, ended weak. The flashback scenes contributed nothing. The 3rd person pov was insane. Many things went unexplained. The Sara plotline was lazy. Jacks character was all over the place: in his personality, his history, and development. Amy's whole family was odd and nonsensical. The books title sucks.

The author does write well. My guess is that she's going with quantity over quality. This probably could've been great.

Is he to broken for his best friend’s little sister Amy? Her life has been hell since she became and omega instead of a beta like her whole family, even caused a riff with her parents, even their little town has turned against her mostly. Will Jack also abandon Amy since she’s forbidden because his broken from prison?.?

I really like this author's take on the omegaverse tropes. Here the alphas and omegas are considered inferior to the beta population as they view themselves as the superior dynamic. The alphas and omegas have to play along and act "normal" while suppressing their natural instincts. I really felt for the characters' struggles as they try to navigate in a beta dominated world.

A little slow

It was hard to stick with this biok. I got tired iof the back and forth between Jack and Amy. I especially found Jack to be overwhelming frustrating with his he doesn't want Amy and then held can't stop wanting her. He's so worthless. I almost DNF.
The steamy heat scenes were great and eventually Jack came around. It was an okay read.

Very Good Read

I was a little woozy from the back and forth in time but other than that this was a great read. Scenes are described well and you can really jump into the story.
There were also the little details that were never forgotten, which I can also appreciate.
Love scenes were great.
Romance was very cute and I can't wait to read more.

Brothers best friend…

This is a brothers best friend romance

Jack is back in town to deal with his mothers estate and who does he get a whiff of at the bar? His best friends little sister… sweet like peaches and he can’t resist.

Seriously such a push and pull. He doesn’t want to lose the only friends he has but he also is so drawn to Amy.

There really wasn't much that I disliked about this story. I loved this twist on an ABO universe, where Alphas and especially Omegas are looked down upon. Their love story has several things going that make it forbidden. Normally I roll my eyes at the 'forbidden' aspect when its just because its a brothers friend. But this story has a little bit more too it. I thought Jack was such a great character because of his growth in the story. This one really tugged on my heartstrings.
