Sold to the Raksha #1

Alien Meat Market

Rate this book
Yesterday I was a human being.
Today I’m nothing but a piece of meat.

There was a time when I doubted the existence of aliens. Now I’m a believer.

I’m alone on the stage, vulnerable, frightened, sweating in the spotlight. Meanwhile, a crowd of alien monsters are casting their bids.

The prize? Me.

This place is a meat market. Literally. To these alien beasts I’m nothing but a delicacy. A tasty morsel of exotic food.

Except for the aliens who actually end up claiming me.

The Raksha.

Five terrifying purple-skinned males, all rippling muscles and growly alpha dominance. These guys have a different kind of hunger smoldering in their orange eyes. They own me now, body and soul. I’m their pet, their plaything. Theirs to use, to share, to dominate as they see fit.

It turns out the Raksha have a problem. Their females are all gone, wiped out by a deadly plague. Their entire species is now doomed to extinction.

For some reason, they think I can help. And they’re about to show me how.

I’d say my chances of ever returning to Earth are slim to none.

By the time the Raksha are done with me, maybe I won’t want to.

5 Sexy Purple Tigers...Rawr!!!

You always know with one of Lizzy's books you're in for a wild, crazy, and maybe weird ride but it's gonna be a good story. And if you said, "I want 5 sexy alien purple tiger mates" then this is the story for you. If you didn't say that, then that's because you didn't know that's exactly what you needed, so this is still the story for you lol!

Bethany is a journalist for a trashy tabloid magazine, and she's doing reconnaissance in a cow pasture to try and catch who is stealing and mutilating cows. Who knows, it could even be aliens!! Well, ha ha ha, it was aliens, and she gets scooped up with the cows and taken to be sold in an exotic live meat market galaxies away.

Thankfully for her she gets bought/saved by a sexy purple tiger alien, a Raksha. He is part of a trader ship crew of five, but the chaos ensues from there.

In true Lizzy fashion, you have the crew who have to "examine" their new pet to see what all the parts are for and if she's healthy. There is a language barrier, which leads to some shenanigans. Add to that a thwarted warlord out for vengeance, a deadly bacteria run amok, and sexy alien mates that have the steamiest mating dance I've ever seen.

I really liked this story. Lizzy's writing was as wonderful as always. She pulls you right it and takes you to crazy-town. I loved the characters, Bethany was the level headed heroine, who took all the improbable situations in stride. She went with the flow and fell in love with her Raksha saviors; Argath, Brom, Chael, Zaleros, and Damien.

My only critique is that there was so much story focus that I wish there was more bonding time between Bethany and her mates. I never thought I'd say of a Lizzy story that I wish there were more steamy bits LOL!! Not that there wasn't by the way. In fact I cracked up as I was reading and thought this is pretty tame for Lizzy and then read "Our seed, Beh’thani,” Zaleros said. “We must breed it into you.” and thought Oh here we go!

Just a side note: Lizzy's aliens always look like aliens, especially down there *wink wink* and this is no different. Also this may not be fully Omegaverse, but there is definitely purring and knots!!

To sum it up, this is crazy, very alien, and improbable but wholly entertaining. Lizzy's writing is superb as always; she's so detail oriented with great world-building that just pulls you in. If you love SFR or just want something out of the ordinary give this a read.

Even though this is an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was kinda less about the alien meat market (she just happened to wander into it and got sold as prime rib, haaaah) and more about the human being bought by the heroes and then turns straight RH. I thought it would be a lot darker and the heroes would be contemplating which parts of her would be best to take a chomp out of, but no!

Ok, right off the bat that prologue has got me fucked up. Like how did that happen to her?

Thank goddess for Dramien but pretty sure that’s gonna come back to bite him in the ass.

The exploration of her anatomy along with whatever fun anomalies the aliens have are pretty much why we read alien romance. At least it’s why I do it. Plus they tend to be pretty funny.

Omg the mating dance! It’s like the best version of Thunder from Down Under. Bethany had a point when she said, “Meanwhile guys back on Earth thought they could get by with a cheesy pickup line and a round of cheap shots.”

Lol, of course in order to receive this transformative serum, it would have to be bred into her. By the entire crew. Not that I’m complaining … far from it.

So, I didn’t hide the fact that I read this for the smut alone. Not that the storyline wasn’t interesting, it was, but priorities. My only complaint is too much inner monologue. And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I could’ve used more smut.

3.75 - 4 stars!

I have to say...I totally respect the uniqueness of this story. And for that I would even push my rating to 4.5 stars. But my lower mainly has to do with the lack of relationship development between Bethany and all of her mates. I wanted a little more time with them learning each other and who they are and what they like.

Was this kind of weird? YES. I mean...alien purple tiger men? But these aliens knew how to use all the gifts that they were given and it was hot. Some of the things that happened in this story was so outrageous that you just had to love it.

Bethany is a journalist and was working at a cow pasture trying to find out who was stealing cows and ends up sucked up in an alien ship bound for an auction. A alien meat market to be exact...what a name haha. Luckily for her, she gets bought by an alien species called the Raksha and finds herself once again on an alien trader ship but her circumstances have changed a bit. She is attracted to these big alien men and they are enamored by her. Their language barrier proves to be a snag in their initial introduction but soon they find themselves in deep. With danger lurking on the horizon, a dangerous bacteria that Bethany has acquired and a mating dance that proves these aliens are the only ones for her...well you've got yourself an adventure.

Bethany was logical and sweet and her mates...Argath, Brom, Chael, Zaleros and Damien were the perfect gentleman...except when they weren't. If you like steamy Sci-fi with a side of suspense and a whole lot of crazy definitely give this one a try.

New to me author and I'm quite impressed. I really liked Bethany and her reactions were logical and believable. The feelings between her and the 5 Raksha develop slowly and naturally.

Sometimes in Reverse Harems the numerous males get all jumbled up and you can't really tell them apart. That is not the case here. The guys are unique and Argath, Dramien, Zaleros, Chael and Brom brings something to the story.

The reason I didn't give 5 stars:

1.5 very generously (at the moment) rounded up. DNF at 93% how bad is that!? Kindle says I have 13 min left in the book and I said lol nah no thanks.

I give books on my “ should’ve known better than to read this” shelf a solid handicap. They go in with low expectations and I don’t judge them as harsh as other reads, and get within the first chapters I knew this was going to be a bumpy road. Yet I carried on as this was a recommendation…. Hoooo boy… why did I though.

Is this book supposed to be funny? Erotic? Romantic??? I’m not sure. If it’s supposed to be funny then maybe the 2 star round up isn’t so bad but I personally didn’t find it any of the above. (The name is stupid funny though. So points there I guess?? If that’s what the author was going for? Which I’m still not sure)

The writing tense and style is just not for me. The lead FMC’s name “Bethany” is probably used as often as words like “the, at, for, she, he, they” my point is it’s excessive use of a name and that irked the heck out of me.

The erotic part also didn’t work for me because the author chose such sexy words as “globule, blob, glob, erect like a dogs red rocket, seed fluid” 🤢🤢🤢 nope nope to all of that ick. Can’t say I recommend it but it’s not so bad I didn’t stop reading it while on a roll. Had my kindle not died the night before I would have carried on and finished this out. But as it stands when I opened the book back up and saw where I left off I said not today Satan’s glob.

*Another 'farm' abduction by aliens*
Only instead of a farm-girl, this time Bethany Smith, cub reporter for the Global Probe gets sucked in.
And then at the Meat Market, the 'Meat' attracts the attention of a young Raksha who uses the money, given to him by his brothers, and meant for paying an important debt, to buy this strange luring creature.
Of course, there's hell to pay for young Dramien when he takes his prize back to their ship.

Brothers? Five of them. Argath, Chael, Zaleros, Brom, Dramien.
After much upheaval, the brothers agree that indeed this Meat is worth it.

Alien smut is always hot with its tentacles-tails twist but this one here is especially hot.
Super sizzling hot - with a hot alien doctor's exam thrown in for free.

Another (new) thing I liked here is that alien microbe/bacterial infection is talked about - because it can of course happen but no other alien-rom book really talks about it.

I’m glad I gave this author another chance and this was a way better read than my previous experience and I found this story very enjoyable. The previous book I didn’t find any fault in the writing so I’ve come to the conclusion that maybe it was the short length that made that feel rushed and then affected my connection to it but this one was the exact opposite.

This is an alien abduction reverse harem romance with hot aliens. The aliens here are called Raksha they are purple with elongated pointed ears claws tails and glowing orange eyes and rather than being Bethany’s abductors they are her saviours. I felt a definite connection to all the characters involved some more so than others and this was sexy with oodles of chemistry. Each male was distinct with a separate personality and they are all so protective and sweet and once realising Bethany is intelligent they treat her as such. The encounters sometimes had a slight dub-con flavour but it’s more of a primal affliction and Bethany is definitely on board with everything to do with these five potential mates.

There’s danger mixed within the narrative as because of purchasing Bethany from a Meat Market which was such a unique concept they no longer have the funds to pay back their loan and the loan shark and his mercenaries are now chasing them across space to recoup their losses. In regards to the meat market, it’s exactly what it portrays an auction for live exotic food.

There is a lot of differences between Bethany and her men's cultural stuff as well as appearance but rather than repel it actually filled Argath, Dramien, Zaleros, Chael and Brom with a deep well of curiosity and some definite heat. This was a hit for me it’s well written imaginative and scorching hot and if you like alien romances where the heroes are definitely alien then this one should work for you.

SIGH

So. I give up and accept that my first Bequin read was a fluke and the rest I'm simply not going to enjoy.

I almost DNFed this one like my last Bequin attempt.

Despite the fact that there are some interesting ideas in here that weren't really developed or played to their best advantage. Bequin's style doesn't work with them, and she simply may not have the writing chops to fully develop them, which is a shame. But like my last attempt at reading her work, this book is both too much and not enough at the same time.

Too many ideas that needed some editing and culling—this story couldn't decide if it wanted to be an OV-but-not-really read or a portal romance (which, this idea was successfully pulled off by Mila Jacks in her Alpha Horde series, and it's very funny to boot) or...well, it just had a lot going on in terms of plot points and flipped through them so quickly.

Which is largely where the Not Enough comes in—not enough character development or personalities, not enough science to back up the ideas which all ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* magically *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ happen, not enough relationship development (thus, the OV feelings of biology trumping all) or exploration of the deviation from biological and cultural norms and why, and not enough actual plot. It was pretty simplistic when you take out all of the excess. I wanted more from this.

But not All The Genre Tropes Spelled Out Word For Word. This wasn't quite as bad as Marked Omega in this aspect, but it was close. Both works felt a lot like feeding an AI genre tropes and having it spit out a story. Yes, genre tropes are tropes for a reason, but again, subverting them or playing around with them goes a long way vs repeating them word for word.

I couldn't bring myself to care about this story, especially after the serious let-down of how Bethany's transformation happens—"Wait, that was IT? Seriously?"—which is the only reason I held in as long as I did.

I like to give authors a chance to redeem themselves.

Because sometimes they surprise you.

But too often, they don't.

Bummer.

I could see the effort and attempt here, but I just didn't love it. When I can't tell you anything about any of the male leads except a job designation or trope they fill, you didn't do a great job with your characters—I'm not sure anyone else can write a truly fleshed out RH like Kathryn Moon can—and you just needed more dick in the story. And when the female lead has personality consistency issues—jumping to conclusions without much to go on is not a great personality trait for a journalist, guess it explains why she ended up at a tabloid—simply to fill Tired Trope Plot Points (70% In Misunderstanding/Break Up), well....

A lot of SFR readers out there will love this, but it's not for me.

I appreciated the attempt at explaining how a human could be mistaken as a non-sentient animal, but speech isn't the only thing that makes/proves someone sentient—which oddly was brought up in the story but then everyone just fell back on "but can she speak?"

But. I do have to give props for the first SFR I've seen in a long time where enslavement and trafficking is not okay with TPTB or most peoples' cultural norms.

This book was absolutely smoking hot.
Holy hell.
My main gripe is that there wasn’t more group activities.

The plot was fun and engaging.
The characters were unique and I liked each of them for different reasons.
Bethany was a good balance of realistically freaking out and fantastically using her logic and getting caught up in the sexy alien men.

The aliens had alien..ahem, appendages.(🐓s)
All with varying flavors.
So that was fun and exciting.
Though you don’t find out about that unless you sign up for the newsletter and get the bonus scene. Which I understand is a good marketing strategy, but I also sort of hate.
Especially in this case where there was pertinent information in it. (Not important info, but I’d still call it pertinent)
Also. It’s sort of a slower burn. Especially when it comes to All the guys.
Argath and Bethany mate first and even though that took forever in my slutty opinion, the rest of them take even longer.
Personally, I wanted more, sooner. But it was still really good. And the tension was smoldering.

I really enjoyed this. And I’ll definitely be checking out the next book and whatever else this author has out.

So fucking hot.
I’m really glad I picked it up.
BookTok rec for the win once again.

Bethany is a reporter investigating reports of cow mutilations, when she (along with a number of cows) are abducted by aliens to be sold as exotic meat at an alien meat market. Her abductors inject her with a numbing agent to prevent her speech, and thus be seen as an edible animal rather than an intelligent species. A muscular striped purple Raksha alien sees her at the auction and finds her beautiful and, unable to bear her sold as meat, purchases her... for a small fortune meant to pay off a debt to a powerful and dangerous collector. Now the five Raksha aliens and their human must escape the underworld mobster and reach the safety of their home planet, Rak.

I absolutely loved this book! The prospect of being abducted by aliens is frightening enough, but to then be sold as an exotic food makes it even worse. Usually in these abduction stories, the women are meant to be brides or slaves or some such, but sold as meat was new for me. And an interesting feature that the aliens who captured her and temporarily silenced her voice did so so that she could be sold as an unintelligent [edible] creature because the selling of intelligent beings capable of speech was forbidden. It adds a little order to what might be considered lawlessness.

The five male aliens are Argath the captain, Brom the first mate, Chael the mechanic, Zaleros the doctor, and Dramien the cook and captain's younger brother. Each hold their own attraction and have different personalities. Bethany herself is inquisitive and levelheaded.

While most chapters were from Bethany's POV, each of the males also had a couple chapters from their POV, and it fit the story smoothly and naturally- in some cases driving the storyline forward simply by being told from the perspective of that character.

I love that Bethany has to work at communicating with the Raksha rather than being given some kind of translator or implant that immediately makes communication possible. She uses a device to teach it words- working from simple naming objects to more advanced sentences. These worked into earbud translators so that they could communicate. I thought that was brilliant, and the author works it in nicely, improving the dialogue and structure of their conversations more and more as the book progresses and Bethany puts more work into the device.

Another thing that I loved and did not expect, was that in this book, Bethany felt like the alien a lot of the time- just by the way the males treated her or admired her or marveled at the alienness of her appearance in comparison to female Raksha. There was an overall feel of curiosity and inquisitiveness and the noticing of fundamental differences in not just their appearances but their makeup that felt new and refreshing both from the aliens observing the human and the human observing the aliens.

I fully recommend this book! Good storyline and writing from the author, likable characters, and good progress of relationships. I hope there will be a sequel! 5 stars!

Not bad, the overall story wasn't new but it still was interesting to read- yes formulaic from an abducted n sold stand point.

There really was no alien world building and other than the mating dance no alien culture. It was all very anthropomorphical- esp the sex.

The thing that utterly ruined the book for me was her transformation. It was absolutely ridiculous! They were injected with the serum, they all had sex with her and came inside her and the infused semen transformed her instantly, no pain, nothing, two hearts, a tail etc etc. Just utterly stupid. Beyond stupid and then she immediately goes on a rescue mission.

I honestly can't read the 2nd book because of this because it was so badly done. Lazy, sloppy and insulting to readers.

How to piss your readers off: treat them like they're stupid!

This book is to literature as what porn from the 70's is to cinematography.

The FMC needs treatment for a thing and the medicine is jizz from the harem members. Who wrote this?!?

There is some serious dubcon in the book. The FMC is bought by the aliens. The doc alien does a full body exploration of her while everyone watches. The FMC gets aroused by this and even orgasms. So let me get this straight the FMC after being abducted then sold in an alien auction while being restrained and probed on a med bay, orgasms multiple times.

It was ok, but as is quite often the case with alien romances I enjoyed the weird anatomy the author invented way more than the thin plot and the underdevelopped characters.

Too bad because I sure would have liked to hear more about the blob ejection chamber of the Raksha females and the way the males would fertilize said blob (without body contact with the females!!!). Wild, right?

But that was pretty much the only redeeming thing in this novel, because I was not sold on the heroine getting with all five of these guys so quickly & even with feelings. It just didn't make much sense.

HOW is an abducted human, restrained, being held against her will, being "examined" by aliens a turn-on for her?

Kidnapping/rape to love. Hard NO.

I always turn to Lizzy Bequin when I want something deliciously dark and full of heat! She so delivered with this book!
Bethany is an investigative reporter who has the misfortune of being amongst a herd of cows when they get abducted by aliens to take to a meat market on an intergalactic auction block. Luckily she is purchased by a young Raksha male named Dramien. This action kicks off a wild adventure with not only Dramien, but four other Raksha males on the crew of the spaceship, Rak's Prosperity. At first Bethany only wants to get back to Earth, but she gradually starts falling for each of them as they learn to communicate and get to know each other. At the same time there is also action and adventure as they try to outrun a crime boss and make it to their home planet. Along the way you get to see how each Raksha male has a very different personality and a very different way of caring for Bethany. I loved this book and I loved the ending. So while this book may be too dark for some, it also has a heck of a good romance as well. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really liked the new book by Lizzy Bequin and I can really recommend it.
I particularly liked the different characters of the Raksha males. They were well worked out, mainly due to the style of writing.
The story was exciting and action-packed and the hot and steamy passion slowly built up until it erupted.
I found the described method of reproduction of the Raksha with the blobb, dance and 'tasting' very original. I laughed so hard reading Bethany's thoughts and imagination of Argath boinking the orange blobb.
But I give the book 'only' 4 out of 5 stars because, on the one hand, I lacked a more precise reason for the way why Bethany had to get the medicine just like that. I mean, I really didn't mind the way at all, that was really hot, but the why was just not enough for me. And the other reason I don't give 5 stars is the prologue. Here we already learn how it ends and personally I have never liked that. For me, the story is anticipated too much.

The prologue was wholly unnecessary and spoiled the ending, so don't read it.

Okay this commentary is probably petty, but... this race of aliens has discovered space travel and cryo-stasis, but they don't have laser eye surgery (or something better)? This alien doctor is seriously sitting there with spectacles on his face like he isn't from a technologically-advanced society.

The author somehow writes the most deeply unsexy sex scenes I've ever read (and tbh they're pretty rapey at times). I don't want to read about the squelch of displaced fluid that pours out and stains their expensive bedding while fucking. I don't want to hear about nubbins or globs and don't call it a penis right then; it's supposed to be smut, not a scientific documentary.

The plot of this book is held together by cum and pheromones. Literally.

The youngest alien MMC comes across the FMC when he smells her pussy amidst a herd of cattle and it beckons him to the auction yard like a Looney Tunes come-hither scent trail.

Then have to run from a blob-alien villain named Boss G'lobb (not joking) but also he's not scary in any way??

The FMC wants to run back to Earth but changes her mind every chance she gets to run.

All MMCs are intoxicated by her pussy smell and they all have to mention how teeny tiny she is in comparison to them constantly.

Then she's infected by alien bacteria that's incurable and there are no antibiotics in space (along with the lack of Lasik) and the only way to fix her is by turning her into a part-alien (cuz they've got gene splicing, but not Lasik, in space) BUT they can't just inject the medicine into her with a needle or give her a pill! Oh no, it needs to be injected via DICKS - all of them, all over. And miraculously, cum did the trick and she transformed into one of them in like 30 minutes. Grew a second heart, a tail, and everything! 😂

My eyes have never rolled so much reading a book.

You could copy this review and it would apply to almost all of Lizzy Bequin's books. This author literally writes the same story over and over.

SPOILERS:

There are always the 3 go to MMCs. Older, grumpy MMC? check. Younger, sweet MMC who everyone calls "kid"? check. Middle-aged MMC who is the boss? check.

MMCs have no idea what boobs or a vagina are but are aroused by the smell for some reason? check.

FMC is mysteriously aroused by them and wants to stop but her body betrays her? check.

Finally, after establishing that the MMCs are nice and won't hurt her, at the 50% mark the FMC decides to runaway from them for no conceivable reason? check.

(In this case, the aliens said they would take her to Earth after they stopped on their home planet. She agreed but apparently felt the need to "escape" onto a random space station so she could try and find the other aliens who had taken her from Earth and would know where it is. She had no way to speak to the other aliens as she did not have a translator... on the previous space station they tried to eat her... She decided not to run, but not for any of the reasons listed above. She didn't want to risk aliens learning about Earth... she was, let's remember, hoping to find aliens who already knew where Earth was)

Eventual fixation on breeding and pregnancy? check.

I will say that she has moved away from the bizarre descriptions of genitals in this one! (no more "hungry hole", "throbbing meat stick", or my favorite "raunchy squelching"

Love ❤️: ⭐⭐✨ (I feel like they will come to really love each other but we don't really get to see it)
Spice 🌶️: ⭐⭐⭐✨ (there are more sexual situations than there are sex, the sexual tension was good but I didn't like the one sex scene towards the end)
Plot 📖: ⭐⭐⭐✨ (solid work, nice world building, towards the ending the "solution" wasn't appreciated by me tho)
Characters 🫂: ⭐⭐⭐ (I liked the protagonist and the guys but I wanted to see more of them)
Ending 🔚: ⭐⭐ (nope, it lowkey ruined it... Wasted potential)

In my alien romance era (maybe this doesn't deserve four stars but I'm rating it based on vibes and the joy it brought me in the beginning 🥹)

I really enjoyed this up until like 60%

Here is the thing: this is surprisingly well written with pretty cool world building, I wasn't really expecting it (tho of course I hoped) to be this good. Alien romance tends to be pure smut and I honestly don't read it for that (as unbelievable as it sounds lmao), I like reading about humans being considered so 🤩 and cherished and how they learn the differences. I got this here.

However... When they started talking about the "transformation" I was like hmmmm no I don't think so. And then the process of being transformed? 🙄 Cmon lol (she has to get their semen instead of just getting an injection lmao). And then she is transformed and some action happens and poof the book ends! (And I'm not even mentioning how the transformation itself is dumb).

I feel like the author wasted some of the best parts, like we don't even get to see their home world! We don't see how she arrives there and the implications and consequences of her transformation. Like that would've been so cool!

And oh boy, the men. They're totally wasted! I feel like we only really get to see the captain Argath and maybe Brom too. Tho the doctor appears a bit more too. But Chael and Dramien? They're barely there! But even the men that were present... I need more character development! More connection! Like honestly I can't even say that it was pure smut and no love, on the contrary, there wasn't even that much smut (she's only with them a single time). I think the inner monologues were maybe too long, they thought too much haha and then not that much was happening.

The ending was so sudden, when I was reading and realised I was at 90% I went oh noooooo this could have had 200 pages more! I would read it!!! They just rescue the captain and that's it!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaa she had just decided to stay with them (which by the way, also came from nowhere) I wanted to see moreeeee 😭 like honestly this is not even bad at all, it just needs more! Maybe the second book could also be about them instead of just changing the couple.

But ok. This scratched my alien romance itch.

I'm not sure yet if I'll continue the series but I might, the other books sound good too tho they're maybe too long (which may be a good thing actually cuz my complaint here was that it didn't have enough). And it really was well written.

This is a very enjoyable reverse harem story which is about Bethany or Beh'thani by her five purple skinned (cat-Like) Raksha and their encounters. The five Raksha that get involved with Bethany are Argatha- Captain of the Prosperity, Brom- second in command, Zaleros- the doctor, Chael- the mechanic and Dramien- Argatha's younger brother and cook. Bethany a journalist is out late one night in her truck investigating a UFO cattle mutilation when the farmer of the field she's on starts shooting at her. Fleeing until her truck dies she's confronted by the farmer but then a UFO appears and starts taking cows and the farmer and herself. She wakes up in the hold with the cows but finds the farmer dead, then shadow aliens appear and drug her then tie her to the cows. She's dragged to the Exotic Meat Market to be sold as food. Meanwhile Argatha sends Brom and Dramien to pay a crime lord Boss G'lobb the money he owes that is overdue. Brom and Dramien stop to get some drinks and proceed to Boss G'lobb and along the way Brom need to use the restroom so he gives Dramien the money. Waiting for Brom, Dramien smells a enticing scent and follows it to the Meat Market and sees Bethany on stage. Drawn to her he bids all the money and takes her to the ship. This brings the wrath of his brother until it's discovered that Bethany is a intelligent creature. Now they discover they broken one of the laws of the universe. Not knowing Bethany's race creates some missteps but Bethany finds herself attracted to the crew and they to her. Then they stop to refuel at the Iona Station and they find are they are being hunted by Boss G'lobb who wants the ship. As they escape they tear apart the docking station, now they're fugitives. Will they reach their home planet or will Boss G'lobb find them first? The characters are likable and endearing, the romance steamy, the action and twist and turns - engaging in this well written great story I enjoyed reading and reviewing via Booksprout.

I've read almost all of Lizzy Bequin's reverse harem alien romances and the recurring theme through all of them is... there is no recurring theme! That's what is so awesome about her books, I can never guess what direction the book is going to take or what twists and turns will happen to bring about the climax.

This book is no different. Bethany is a cub reporter with a small newspaper putting in her hours by scouting a location with reported paranormal activity. She knows it's a silly assignment but she's so keen on moving up the ranks and becoming a real journalist she dedicates herself to the late night stakeout in a cow pasture. And that does not go well. It ends up with her in a very scary alien auction type situation where she meets/is bought by Dramien a purple skinned, orange eyed Raksha. And this is where the plot really takes off and I couldn't put it down.

Really well written and consistent, the plot moves at a good pace with no dull moments. It's not constant action but rather the relationships between the characters build in a believable arc. The title is a bit dark sounding but this book is not disturbing. The aliens are gruff and big but tender with Bethany without being weak. I also like that they have distinct personalities and characteristics and complement each other well. Great read, five stars!

funny, steamy space romance

POV: multiple
HUMOR: yes
F BOMBS: yes
CLIFFHANGER: no
NEW AUTHOR FOR ME: no
TRIGGERS: taken captive, sold in meat market, tied down for examination, knotting, held down, MFMM, no m/m, fifth base

CHARACTERS: Bethany is a daring, curvacious, and blushing journalist. The handsome, large, and well endowed aliens are: alpha tough captain Argath, clinical a-type Doctor Zaleros, brooding and scarred (inside and out) Brom, cocky smirking engineer Chael, and finally, ship's cook and youngest crewmember Dramien .

Author always does a wonderful job with relationships; direct actions and subtle nuances that build bonds. The men are rough and tough, but also thoughtful and protective. My favorite part was the mating dance that the men practiced often despite the circumstances. I love that culture and tradition were included in the world-building.

Usually I read her omega stories which I love because they're so primal (i.e. scenting) and pack animal instincts. This book also included some of that but not to the extent of her other books.

The pacing of this book is slow, which is not necessarily a bad thing, it just takes a bit to get to the meat of the story (no pun intended). There are only a few bits of conflict/action. No angst. Sweet epilogue leading to HEA.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
My first question is why can we only give a 5 star rating. I'd hit 100 stars for any of Lizzy Bequin's books and this latest one is no exception. Lizzy's brilliant brain has come up with another absolutely brilliant story. Here we are introduced to little human Bethany - kidnapped while covering a story about cow mutilations. She ends up in an alien meat auction where by chance she is snapped up by young Raksha, Dramien,. Back on his ship he is in big trouble with his captain and brother Argath. He has used the gems that were supposed to pay a debt to a rather unsavory alien "thing". Over a period of time, Bethany - who they call Beh'thani - builds a bond with the five crew - Dr Zaleros, mechanic Chael, warrior Brom, Captain Argath, and Dramien. And then tragedy strikes when Zaleros discovers Bethany is suffering from a disease that will ultimately kill her. Now Zaleros has his hands full having to find a way to save Bethany's life. It's made all the more emotional due to the fact that all the Raksha females died due to a disease. They can't afford to lose Bethany as well. And behind all this G'lobb - the alien "thing" they owe the money to is hovering in the background - a vicious threat.
As with all of Lizzy's books, I highly recommend this one.

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building was okay, if not especially vivid. The fact that the heroes would be capable or interested in human style sensual intimacy seemed very unlikely, however. The characterization was good, with the heroine and heroes being sympathetic individuals, if not especially nuanced. The development of the romantic relationship was hot. The heat level was four chili peppers. The plot was exciting, and the pacing was consequently quick. There was low angst and high stakes throughout, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. The novel used the Mars Needs Women trope. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were both four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sci-fi romances with reverse harem elements. I look forward to reading the next book written by this author when it releases. I will not buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
