One man, one bat, one adventure. A suburb full of the undead. A city full of monsters. And Dan.
Dan was just an average guy, overworked, underappreciated, and down on his luck. Until the end of the world came and gave him a system and with it a chance to be what he had always wanted to be. A Hero. But first, he needs to learn how to help himself stop dying. Pick up the book and check out how Dan gets good..
This story is just plain fun. A cool mix of post-apocalypse and battle royale, the author does a great job of side-stepping issues that arise with both of these sub-genres and we are left with a really enjoyable read.
My only gripe, if you could call it that, is that I wish we already had access to the following books.
I love this book, a wonderful start to an upcoming series. I only wish it was longer. I hope the second book comes out soon so I can continue reading this series.
First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Over the past year it has become apparent that my reviews are somewhat antagonistic and I apologize to those of you that have taken offense. I think I had hoped to change peoples’ minds about reviewing works of art and that seems to have backfired spectacularly. However, I am still going to be true to myself and write what I believe.
To the author: Thank you for this chance to escape reality and enjoy the world you created! Keep up the good work.
To my fellow reviewers: Messaging me and reviewing my reviews is as productive as trying to shovel water out of the ocean. Stop. I get it. Let’s just all live peacefully.
To potential readers: Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
This isn't a story of "apocalypse happens and suddenly I'm the hero of everything". If you're looking for that, look away. This isn't a story of "I have had such a shit life but with the apocalypse I can turn it all around!". If you're looking for that, look away. This is a story about a guy you cant quite find everywhere, but still close to average Joe. It's about how life, at "the end of the world" still goes on whether or not you bitch about it. And much like life, it's about a guy doing his best without all the answers. But if you read, you'll find he has quite the problem solving abilities.
An awesomely fun book lots of dark elements lots of humor mixed in and definitely an interesting read I know this book has far far to go to hopefully many more sequels at least 10 come on give it to us the readers. I really have no complaints about this book I just hope their future books are a bit longer I'll definitely be anxiously waiting for the next several books heck the whole series really great job
Dan is a normal guy with not much knowledge of rpgs, cast into one that has a good chance of having a fresh plot behind it. He is likeable, but lonely without feeling depressed or giving much thought about it. I have hope for this story. It's funny and if those he meets have some background to them, it has the making of something I want and look forward to reading
This is the tired combination of boring and not funny.
I assume, given the tone of writing, this was meant to be humorous. It was not, it was a chore to read. The main character was not funny, he was tiresome. By the tournament, I was just trying to get through it so I could rate this and never bother with it again.
hopefully the author puts lots of quick ebooks out. The mc learns things the hard way and has to figure it out after respawning. Recommendes for thoae that want a fun fast read.
Apocalypse Hero: A LitRPG Adventure (The New World Adventures of Dan Book 1) by Wolfe Locke. Imagine if you will, Aliens that are out to kill most of the earth's population for their entertainment and ? who knows why. Humans get to do most of the killing (ergo entertainment). Our Hero, Dan, is a pudgy, lazy, good-for-nothing drunk, (you know, average) down on his luck kinda guy. This is Dan’s story, in his own words (you were warned). I honestly don’t know how he survives ½ the trials that are set upon him. Funny storytelling, and I just wanna slap sense into Dan, but he may be earth's only hope, so, maybe not. After all, I want to read the continuing antics. Hopefully, book two is a bit longer. I received a copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
There were a few minor editing errors but aside from that the story was well written and the character was definitely fleshed out enough to like. I was actually enjoying the book so much that I read through in a single sitting and ran into the end before I knew what was happening.
Hopefully the sequel will come soon and I can find out what happened more with Dan and his pet mimic. The waiting is always the hard part when you enjoy the book.
Rather enjoyable read, made worse by the fact that it only currently has two books in the series. You must understand that to enjoy growth type books that we need more than just 2 books so that we can enjoy the journey without worrying that it’s soon going to end on a dime when we barely just started. Then we would have to wait for more books, and what not. Other than that, this is great!
I enjoyed this ook enough to I've it 4 stars, but with one glaring caveat. When will we get MC's that is not total wimps and losers? I totally get it that books sometimes have to reflect the real world but there is reason that I'm reading fiction, sci fiand fantasy... And that's not to have the MC die multiple times a ñ the first half of the book and then bungle around like a cretin for the rest the book.
There are a few times where things get wonky. On his stat screen the first time he levels, it goes from 1 -> 41, and the extra one is on every stat. Then his respawning says it starts taking more time but he says only 7 hours pass after another few pages with him running in and dying a ton. A few spelling issues, but these are the only issues. Good book, good flow.
Loved the book, no nonsense straight up violence, comedy, horror, a hero to love. No apologies for his actions, fun to read and follow I was always in his corner from the moment I started reading. The book keeps you guessing, and your not sure where you are going to end up. Fab
He talks and explains things the way normal people do, which makws it a lot more realistic and funny. A good fast read too, moving on to book 2 immediately
This is a good post apocalyptic book. The magic system is kind of unique and I like that. The main character is not OP or the Prince Charming kind of character. He is real, with all the flaws that go with that.
Well paced story, with a likable meathead MC. Interesting skill system, not a fan of lucking into OP skills, but this was presented nicely and I'm eager to read the next book.
Easy to read but not much to the story kinda blah blah story very forgettable book. The writer has a tendency to make his character's less than interesting!!
