I have collected quite a few sewing books, a few new ones and many from used bookstores. This one is very detailed and written in an extremely formal sort of prose. Frankly it's a little hard to follow and I've been sewing for quite a long time. The illustrations (greyscale sketches actually) are useful. I bought it to keep around as a reference when making jackets and it has value in that context. I have the 1974 3rd edition. It's over 500 pages long so there's no way I'm ever going to read it through. There are a lot of sewing books with great color pictures but not a lot of detail so it's worthwhile to have something to different to look at when considering a new project. However with all the video lessons available on sites like Craftsy, this book would not be my first choice to learn tailoring techniques.
My copy of this book was published in 1958, and is a technical textbook covering the science of tailoring. Basic illustrations. Not as much charachter as some of the home sewing books from the same period.
