About the author

Shirley Corder is a freelance author, retired registered nurse, cancer survivor, pastor's wife, mother, mother-in-law and granny. Somewhere inside that mix, you'll find the real Shirley. She and her husband live near the sea in Port Elizabeth, South Africa's "Windy City".

She is passionate about coming alongside those in the cancer valley and encouraging them. Strength Renewed is her book of 90 meditations for all those in that situation, whether as patients, survivors or those who care.

Shirley reminds us that we are not the first to face storms of many kinds in our lives. Here she draws on seven storms experienced by well-known Bible characters. How did they handle them? What can we learn?

Author Shirley Corder compares biblical stories with personal storms including today’s COVID-19 pandemic and how we can experience God’s peace through difficult times. Corder goes beyond historical stories. She shares her own hurricanes with breast cancer, being rescued from a drifting ferry, isolation, and warnings of severe weather. At the end of each devotional, Corder provides a prayer to encourage and guide readers in their walk with God…to trust Him for peace during difficult times. To look at biblical stories and know that God is with us in everything.

Peace in Life's Storms by Shirley Corder is a power-packed little book with seven challenging devotionals. (While it was written using the timely Covid-19 example, any current problem is just as relevant.)

You could read one each day and finish in a week. However, after reading through the entire book, I'm choosing to re-read only one devotion for the week, every day looking at the challenges and trying to answer them. I anticipate some real spiritual growth with this discipline.

Once again, I have had a blessed journey through Shirley's writings. I have been reminded of how small we are and yet how important each and every soul is to God! He will never let us go through our storms without being right there beside us. I have experienced this many times in my 82 years on earth. Thank you Shirley for reminding me through your faith and the written word!
