God's Treasured Possession: Walk in the footsteps of Moses

Rate this book
Do you know how God sees you?

Moses is a key character in the unfolding narrative of God's Kingdom. A foundational leader of God's people in the Old Testament, he's held up throughout the New Testament as a man of God, in spite of his flaws. Yet Moses didn't always believe what God said about him.

In this biblically balanced book, Terry Virgo invites us to walk in the footsteps of Moses so that, by faith, we can be ready for whatever life brings.

The first book I’ve edited from commissioning to publishing (Healthy Faith was a team effort!).

I loved working with Terry - for someone with decades on me he was humble and teachable.

This little book walks through the story of Moses and shows us why knowing our family history is so important. It’s been helpful reading whilst navigating change - I would commend it to folk leading in any context particularly church.

Speed-read this to stimulate thoughts for an upcoming teaching series, but despite my haste there is plenty of gold in here to chew on!

There is a lot of wisdom in this book and I appreciate how Terry Virgo compares the life of Moses to his own life and to the life of the Christian. However, with 30 relative short chapters, I found the book to be quite tedious and repetitive. Yes, we are to be humble; listen to the advice of wise people; delegate leadership responsibilities when necessary; trust that God will provide; and look to Jesus instead of the Old Testament Law. But if these truths are repeated multiple times in a different form, it does not really resonate anymore.

As always with Terry Virgo this book sets the reader some challenges in following his thoughts and putting what he draws from the Moses narrative into practical form for today. Terry Virgo never goes for a purely historic/theoretical reading, always relating it to his own experiences and/or daily life for his readers.

I can recommend this as a daily devotional as well as a straight read-through. Beware, sometimes the 'rabbit hole' it sends the reader down can go to totally unexpected places and scratch at unanticipated itches.

Highly recommended.

Terry Virgo is for many a go to resource for pastoral wisdom, spiritual insight and practical application. In God's Treasured Possession the author walks us through Moses' journey based on the book of Exodus. There's a nice touch with the book starting with Jesus' and the unaware disciples on the Emmaeus Road with Jesus opening the Scriptures to them and showing how Moses pointed to the coming of Jesus. This book is very easy to read while retaining depth and can be used in bitesize chunks almost like a daily devotion. It would also be useful as a primer for reading to your children and bringing out both the excitement of Moses' journey and the foundation of the Bible itself for life. Recommended to have on your bookshelf!

This book was so much more than I expected. The author wrote in such as way where the past, the gospel, and the present collide into each other. The chapter are short and to the point. I would recommend reading like a devotion. The book is one you want to read and dwell before you move on (in my opinion). Terry did a fantastic job. What was most appealing was the God-centeredness of the entire book.

Short, readable, stirring chapters (ideal for daily devotions) that make you think about the God we claim to follow. I personally enjoy the warmth of Terry's writings and the obvious affection, wonder, and reverence He has for God. They also contain the wisdom of a man whose own life has, a bit like Moses, been given to humble service of God's people. I enjoyed this, can see myself re-reading it again devotionally and passing it on to others.

Practical Application of Biblical truth

Dear Terry guides us through the story of Moses, carefully exhorting us as God's people to imitate Jesus, the greater Moses.
Short and digestible chapters that sometimes allow for more questions than answers for the young Christian, certainly a helpful reminder for the veteran believer.
