"For long time readers of the series, this omnibus brings together four of the best Pamplemousse stories. For the new reader it provides a good introduction to the world of Michael Bond's culinary mysteries and his delightful central character Monsieur Pamplemousse (and, of course, Pommes Frites)."
Michael Bond, CBE was an English children's author. He was the creator of Paddington Bear and wrote about the adventures of a guinea pig named Olga da Polga, as well as the animated BBC TV series The Herbs. Bond also wrote culinary mystery stories for adults featuring Monsieur Pamplemousse and his faithful bloodhound, Pommes Frites.
Read first novella in this collection which was titled, I think, Monsieur Pamplemousse. Basically a ribald French farce, not much of a "detective" story. Tiresome and, as a farces should be I suppose, silly. Dated attitudes are also off putting. Doubt I will read the 2d or 3d stories. ADDENDUM: read the second story (Monsieur Pamplemousse and the Secret Mission). The charm of the character is more obvious to me in this tale. Upgrade my review to three stars. Will read the third story some time in the future when my stomach settles. ADDENDUM 2: Read third story. Much of my opinion remains, basically insensitive and sexist and locker room type humor but there is an affection for the dog at least.
