From the creators of, well, Opossum #1-4, comes an all-new buffet of assorted prose and poetry!
My two faves are Jeremy Rice's "When the Schlitz Hits The Fan," a day-in-the-life saga of a fairly privileged slacker couple that nonetheless rings as hilariously true and gritty as Bukowski, and Richard Ballou's "The Man Over There," which recalls the elegant, elusive reality of Borges.
My own "The Story of The Decayes, Eventually" recounts my high school hipster buddy Bob, our mutual teenage fascination with the obscure Long Beach band The Decayes, and the unexpectedly enduring influence Decaye-in-chief Ron Kane exerted over our creative lives.
Some of the entries are posted at their website, opossumlit.com, or splurge a lousy twenty bucks for the coffee-table-ready print edition, which includes a free Opossum totebag. I bet Ploughshares never thought of that.
