Haven Hollow #4

Spandex Sorcery (Wanda's Witchery, #2)

Rate this book
I’m what’s known as a Blood Witch—a witch who was half-turned by a vampire. I’m still in the process of learning how to reverse my condition by returning his ‘kiss’ to the vampire who blooded me, Lorcan Rowe.

But every time we attempt the spell, it goes awry.

Now it’s become a race against time; if Lorcan’s powers aren’t returned to him through a reversal spell, he’ll eventually lose his mind and there’s a very good chance he’ll kill me in the process.

As if that weren’t bad enough, through a misfiring of my unpredictable magic, I manage to inundate my house with bubbling mold spores. When the spores start whispering about murder, I know something wicked this way comes.

Between ghosts suddenly coming back to life, bodies found buried in the backyard, and vampires demanding my full blooding, my life is going from bad to worse.

I can only hope that the bane of my existence, who also happens to be my familiar, Hellcat, doesn’t breathe a word of this to my mother. If he does, I’ll have to add ‘burning at the stake’ to the list of things already going very wrong…

I just adore Wanda. She really wants to hate everyone, because that's what witches do. I love seeing her emotional growth, such as it is, and I can't wait to see what mischief her powers get her into next.

Fairly Entertaining

Rarely have I encountered a series that was comical. I had a great laugh reading this book. I enjoy reading the lingo of name calling which is a riot. I'm enjoying this series and am in complete anticipation of more laughs.

I can’t stop reading these books!

Totally addictive! A fun read, and I’m liking Wanda more and more. I do have things in common with her, too, like not really being a people-person. A lot is going on, and this book was entertaining from start to finish. I llloooved it!

Chaotic magic, murder and mayhem. Can Wanda get to grips with her new life before her old one catches up with her?

This is the second book in the Wanda’s Witchery series and is a collaboration between HP Mallory and JR Rain. The book falls in the Paranormal Women’s Fiction genre and although there’s the potential for romance, there are no adult scenes and romance is not the main focus of this book.

We find ourselves back in Haven’s Hollow, USA following the increasingly complex and magical life of Wanda, a 140 year old witch who has left her coven to seek sanctuary in the hollow after being turned into a blood witch by a vampire. Wanda’s status as blood witch is something which carries a death sentence amongst witches and is not tolerated by vampires.

Her magic is becoming increasingly unstable and hard to control and after accidentally destroying her home and performing some magic which until then had been thought impossible, she finds herself having to rely on her neighbours and her vampire landlord for help, something witches don’t do.

Things go from bad to worse when a shallow grave is uncovered in the garden of the property Wanda is about to move into. Can she find the murderer and get to grips with her new magic before her either her old coven come for her or the vampires do?

Wanda remains a feisty character who is begrudgingly starting to adapt to life in a community, despite her solitary nature. She even reigns in her traditional dislike of Gypsies and finds herself increasingly drawn to friendship with Poppy, the Hollow’s resident Gypsy. There is crossover with this series and the Poppy’s Potions series and we see several familiar characters appearing throughout the story.

The Wanda’s Witchery series and the Poppy’s Potions series run in parallel to each other, set in the same town. If you haven’t already read those, start with Gypsy Magic (Poppy’s Potions, Book One) followed by Cashmere Curses (Wanda’s Witchery, Book One), then Faery Enchantment ( Poppy’s Potions, Book Two) before reading this book.

This is another good collaboration by HP Mallory and JR Rain. They write well together, which makes for a smooth flowing story which is interesting and easy to become immersed in. I’m already looking forward to the next books in both these series.

4 Like Trying To Bunker Down Inside Of A Cupcake Stars

Spandex Sorcery is the second book in the Wanda's Witchery series by J. R. Rain and H. P. Mallory. (Book 4 Haven Hollow)

The only reason I can rate this book so high, and not three measly stars, is because I'm so thankful the author duo finally did something about Opehlia's aberrant characterization. She honestly never made sense as a core part of the Council, and a leader of this safe haven for monsters. I have been waiting since we first encountered the affect she has on the world around her for the author to either allow her abhorrent behavior to be revealed and become an antagonist in truth, or killed off, or to be further detailed so we could understand her character better and why everyone was seemingly copacetic with her involvement in their lives. I was expecting some sob story meant to win the readers over, but I'm happier with how everything worked out.

Then there's the way in which the author outlined Hellcat and Wanda finally reaching an accord on something. I'm hopeful they will have a better relationship, because at this point it seems like an attack on Wanda to allow her to be constantly be pummeled by his mistreatment and favoritism towards her mother. It still saddens me that she doesn't have a complimentary familiar, which seems to only make everything harder for her.

Finally, there's this new nonsense from Lorcan's adoptive sire about an ultimatum to complete her change to vampire. I wonder how far they're willing to go, especially after that encounter with Joseph. There's bound to be some consequences derived from that experience...

I also hope we will see more of Louisa being her best self. I didn't realize the social structure of the werewolves in this world was so archaic. But I'm honestly horrified that she and other female Shifters are forced into 1950's style social dynamic and expected to only ever be a house wife and breeder.

I also expect everything to get a little more interesting from here given Darla's state of being... And a possible love match between her and Henner?

Spandex Sorcery is the second book in the Wanda’s Witchery series, set in the Haven Hollow world.
Wanda is half-witch and half-vampire, affectionately known as a blood witch. Having been cast out of her coven after being turned by Lorcan, she finds solace in the supernatural town of Haven Hollow. This book finds Wanda’s powers growing wildly out of control and her increased insistence to find a way to reverse the vampire part of her. In the meantime, after Wanda makes her current living quarters inhabitable, Lorcan provides her another home until her current one can be rebuilt. She locates a poorly buried body at the back of the property, opening a mystery that Wanda knows she needs to try and solve. A family residing in Haven Hollow deserves to know how the body ended up underground.

Spandex Sorcery is another fantastic and fun novel in the Haven Hollow series. Wanda's character is great. She acts tough and unfeeling but it’s just an act, one engrained in her since she was child in the coven. Even though it’s how she was raised to be, her character learns to relax a little in her new home. Lorcan's character plays a huge and fantastic role in the story. I really enjoyed him, even when he was obsessing over Wanda. Many of the characters from the Poppy's Potions series make an appearance in Spandex Sorcery. Of course, it's because both series are set in the same town of Haven Hollow. I love the characters in Spandex Sorcery as much as I love them in the Poppy’s Potions series.

Spandex Sorcery is a wonderful second book in the Wanda's Witchery series by H.P. Mallory and J.R. Rain. This writing duo brings interesting stories, intriguing characters, and thought-provoking mysteries to life. The character development provides history and growth, and the world-building creates a fantastic world to watch the characters do their thing.

Wanda is trying to help Lorcan reverse the spell and give him his life back but everything they are doing seems to be going wrong . To make matters worse she turns her house into one big bubbly mold mess . That are whispering ghostly premonitions . All while she is trying to get her magical dress shop up and going . With ghosts hanging around and then there are the bodies buried all around the back yard what is a witch to do .
This is book two in the series and well Wanda is really in it this time . She just really wants to dislike everyone especially Poppy but alas things don't go as planned . She is trying to do good but she also just doesn't want to work hard at it. She seems to be whiney and self indulged at the start of the book . I know she is misunderstood but she can come off as a hag. It could be because of the way she as raised in the coven . You really do see her turn about through out the book. She really starts to care for the people she is involved with . I must say i really like hellcat he is like the conscious that Wanda needs some times he is arrogant little cat that one moment you want to love and the next min punt him across room . Which makes him lovable in his own way.
I read this book in an evening , I love the characters and they are so well written. You really get a feel for what the characters are feeling through out the book . The authors have a way of writing that will have you laughing hard one min and then on the edge of your seat the next. I can't wait to see where the authors take the characters . Its a fun, fast read that will you will love . So if you want a good summer read check out this series .

These books just keep getting better. I love Wanda. Her heart is in the right place but she really wants to hate everyone. I think the way she was raised has the most to do with it. I really wanted to start this review with how this book ended. I think this book has us get into Wanda's emotions more then we have before. She has a lot going on and not one person who seems to support her. I can not stand Hellcat. I wish she would find another familiar. It would be great if she could undo the bond with him and move on. I am rooting for her and Lorcan. I really think they could work out. AFTER she undoes the blood bond. Now... The ending, Like that last chapter. I was like oh heck don't end here. I was ready to go on. I can't believe that is how it ends. I now have to wait and have so many questions about what and why and how is this going to work. I hope while I wait on the next book they don't get into anything. I feel I will miss something if I don't get the other book soon. LOL

and entertaining and slightly macabre paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining and slightly macabre paranormal cozy mystery series. A unique and fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Each story bounces so far at least back-and-forth between two characters being focused on. Wanda and poppy. Wanda is a witch and poppy is a gypsy. They live in a small town it is a hollow haven for magical beings and creatures. There are humans that live there as well but there’s magic to keeps most of the humans from noticing any magic or weirdness. In this book it is Wanda who is the main focus and she’s trying to get her Bloodwitch magic under control things happen and she has temporarily move out of her duplex and find somewhere else to stay in. No spoiler so I cannot see what is going to happen but needless to say. Things happen and the adventure begins. Read on and find out what’s going on this time.

Wanda is still trying to find a way to break the blood curse with Lorcan. Wanda is out of control that does several things that even another blood witch could not do. Wanda is also finds a dead body and realizes who it is, she decides she will find the truth. Wanda is still trying to keep Poppy at a distance and keep tries to keep the witches are not thing going.

This was a fun story, I really enjoy seeing Wanda becoming a somewhat nicer person. Would like to see her and Lorcan get closer, they make a great couple. The only thing I hope is now that Darcy doesn't hook up with one of the characters already in series. Other than that, can't wait for more in series.

A good solid laugh

Wands is my favourite character in this series so far so it was good to see things from her perspective again. I enjoyed her thawing towards Poppy and the inner battle she has going on towards Lorcan, both signs that she is developing from the witch she was upon first arrival into Haven Hollow.
Rain & Mallory always manage to pull out a surprise towards the climax of each novel and I can't say I am unhappy with any weird surprises so far! I get the feeling they are building towards something in the overall arch of the whole town story and I am excited.

A great addition to the series!!

How do you find the monster that murdered a werewolf in mid-change? That's the question Wanda is asking herself. When the former ghost, (don't ask), Darla finds a grave in the woods, Wanda is drawn into the mystery. Why would someone want to kill a harmless clerk in a real estate office? Why did his wife think he deserted her and their children? What is she going to do about Lorcan' s sire' s demand that he finish turning her within the month? All the answers are in this excellent book! Highly recommended.

Interesting read

The characters are interesting.there is a lot of action. It is a can't put down book ,as you just need to know what is happening next.Wanda is a watch having trouble controlling her powers since she received a vampires kiss. She also has a devil cat for her familiar. Then there is Jordan the vampire, who is giving her the choice to decide if she wants to be turned. The characters are quirky and interesting.

Wanda is so much fun. She fights what she has been taught- that witches don’t have friends and don’t help others. She feels deeply for others and helps when needed. Her attraction to Lorcan is growing, much to her chagrin. He is unknowingly fighting for her to make her own decisions. I’m hoping for a happy ending because they could be a power couple. Of course, there’s a mystery to solve and danger present. The growing friendship between Wanda and Poppy is adorable and humorous.

Loved it

Wanda is in the thick of things when her magic is still giving her a hard time..
Blood witch now because of a vampire...which isn't good because she can actually raise the dead.
Wanda's familiar is a nasty cat that reports everything to Wanda's mother...
The writing is wonderful and makes the books so much more enjoyable
Highly recommend if you like cozy paranormal stories

Wanda just can’t get a break. What with her jacked up powers and Hellcat being a tattletale to her mother about all the crazy things happening, her life can’t get much more frustrating. But wait, there’s the delicious vampire Lorcan that she should hate and yet she wants to get all in his business. This series is hilarious.

I am really enjoying this series. Only wish the books were longer for each edition. Thankfully the authors write quickly, so the next one is out soon. This series is also part of the Haven Hallow series in which Poppy’s Potions takes place. I recommend reading them in order as they might have some spoilers if you do not. Both series are good, so I do recommend the other series as well as this one.

Very Entertaining

First review for this series! So many interesting characters and apparently all these magical people are beautiful except the hag, of course. I have loved the imaginative storylines, but found this book extremely imaginative. We have curses, murder, a hag that kills people in horrifying ways, and new ideas about ghosts, zombies, and mold. New levels of fun for the readers.

Witchy Shenanigans

Wanda is no pushover. Although she doesn't like people (who does once we hit our 40s+?), she seems to be collecting misfits and dare we say it finding compassion for others. Chuckles, struggles, & mysteries to keep you entertained from beginning to end. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Wanda has wormed her way into my head and heart! I love this witch that has dry humor and a habit of trouble finding her. Her heart is shining through more and more in this installment, she's definitely not gonna be able to hide her true self from the Hallow much longer. I can't wait to see what craziness comes her way in book 3!

Wanda!

I love these books, both poppy and wanda! Wanda is trying to make her way, outside of her mothers grasp and is starting to figure life out. When her powers start increasing her life jumps back off the rails. She can handle it though. I love that she is starting to warm to poppy. I would love to live in this town! Read the books you wont regret it.

I received an ARC of f this book for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I think Wanda & Hellcat may be some of my very favorite characters! It was a fun, quick read. Full of character development & building of friendships . I love that this series is about more than one character & that in each book you can see their stories grow.

A fun read

I love the character of Wanda. All of the characters of this book I can visualize. I enjoyed Wanda's trials and tribulations with her growing powers as a blood witch. Not to mention her investigative skills when a mystery needs to be solved. I am enjoying this series quite a bit.

I do love Wandas no nonsense attitude. I love seeing her change to include friends and help. I really want to see her and Lorcan finally cave to their desires to one another. I hope Wanda finds out she can break the vampires kiss and become an amazing blood witch with a vampire lover at her side and a gypsy at the other and just put a stop to the witches and the vampires from destroying her.

Spandex Sorcery is a great addition to the Wanda's Witchery series, with the story progressing in exciting ways while still maintaining the signature humor that makes the characters so lovable. This leads to hilarious and cringe-worthy situations that keep readers engaged. The writing is sharp and witty, making Spandex Sorcery a must-read for fans of the series and newcomers alike.

Even the two series you have going...I want so much more. Just love how the series overlap and Intertwine, bit more mood and self depreciation on the witches part... But hey, who doesn't.

Spandex Sorcery

Predictable! This is a good story but it is not unique. The most unexpected part she is a blood witch instead a dark witch. What's the difference? Dark witches are self made and Blood witches are made from the vampire's kiss. Unexpected!
