Thrust Into Love #1

Swiped by My Dad’s Best Friend

Rate this book
Cooper Rutledge: frat boy, general screwup, and...Daddy's boy?

On the surface, I don't take things too seriously.
Not my poor grades, or my hookups, or my inability to find my purpose.
But that was before.

Before the daddy of my wet dreams swiped right on my pic.
Before he turned out to be my father's best friend.
Before I convinced him to indulge in one night of pleasure with no strings.

I didn't count on how magical it would be.
I didn't know that when he spanked me and offered words of praise, my soul would drink it up.
I didn't realize how right Daddy kink would feel.

One night could ever be enough.
Because I do care. Too much.
And when life sends me into an emotional tailspin, Trace steps up to support me---proving he cares too.

Everything has gotten very real, very fast.
But are we ready for the fallout?
I can't let anyone, not even my father, come between me and Trace.

I've finally found my Daddy, and I'll fight to keep him.

Swiped By My Dad's Best Friend is a contemporary age-gap M/M romance that includes light daddy kink and no age play.

This was yet another boring and bland read: It had absolutely nothing interesting going on.
Even worse, it was extremely superficial and super awkward. Their relationship made me roll my eyes more than anything, and they didn’t even get a single swoon out of me.

The premise of this entire book doesn’t even come to fruition either, because the dad is not the best friend at all. They hadn’t talked in over a decade, and they hardly even talk during this book either. They’re not remotely friends anymore. It’s silly.

The online aspect was a lie as well, because these two have a conversation on a Grindr type of app that lasts a whole of three sentences and then they meet up, reveal their identities, and that’s that.

This was insta-love to the maximum degree; their love had absolutely no foundation at all, and their entire relationship consisted of either Daddy kink or just sex.

Also, if I never encounter the word “brat” again, then it will honestly still be too soon.

Sweet sweet sweet, a little kinky, and really cute. It lacked substance and didn’t make much sense (Trace is teaching a business seminar without any qualifications, and he is barely able to run his own business?), but it was fun.

I would have loved more conflict. Less sex. But more kinky sex. And more about the situation with Cooper’s mom. But mostly more kink. The first spanking scene was hot, and then the other scenes bored me. 🤷‍♀️

Not sure why I keep trying with the daddy kink books. It’s clearly not my thing.

This was fine. Just a lot of the daddy/boy interactions were either cheesy or made me cringe.

I do plan to try the next book in the series.

I’d found my Daddy—and I couldn’t have him.

Cute dad’s best friend romance, but overall I just felt pretty meh while reading it.
It was a quick read, sweet & spicy. There is literally nothing else to say about it.

I didn’t know how we would come out on the other side of this without hurting someone. But I couldn’t make myself let go. Not now. Maybe not ever.

- Age gap (20 years?)

Cute Daddy/boy with a college setting and age gap romance

I liked this first entry in the Love Notes sort of spin off series (and appreciated the Ace/Benji still being madly in love appearance).

Cooper and Trace make a cute couple, there's relatively little angst and the kink is lightly done without feeling forced.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

Something about him just made me want to go full octopus and wrap myself around his leg and beg him to never leave me.

This book was super okay. Cute sometimes, funny sometimes, a sweet story with dad’s best friend. It was also just a little boring, I think. Maybe longer than necessary.

Not a bad daddy, but maybe not the best one either? After reading so much kink and different BDSM dynamics, not discussing anything stresses me out. Both MCs are pretty casual about the kink, which is fine, but they didn’t talk about anything else either. They just jerked off over skype all the time, then someone fell on their face, and there was a thanksgiving turkey.

When our eyes met, he smiled, and butterflies erupted in my stomach. Wasn’t I too old for butterflies? Maybe they were moths. That seemed more fitting.

This was some sort of fucked-up dream. Or maybe I’d crashed my pickup on the way here, and I was really dying on the side of a road. I wasn’t sure that wouldn’t be preferable to Matthew finding out that, after he suspected me of making moves on his wife, I had, in fact, fondled his son.

Without another word, I grabbed his waistband and jerked it down. I wasn’t gentle, wanting to get him back in the mood of our sexy game. But damn, his jeans were so tight they barely budged. I had to peel them down, rather than yank them to his knees in a show of dominance. “Oughta spank you just for wearing these ridiculous pants,” I grumbled.

Despite what it might look like from the outside, I’d never been a rebel. I only ever wanted to make people happy. I just wasn’t very good at it.

Cooper hates how much his dad, the college dean, expects from him.

To unwind himself he makes a date with a guy through an app. Arriving at his place warm hand envelope him, a sexy Daddy that’s what he wants for the night. But when they face each other the shock is huge, it’s Trace his dad’s ex-best friend.

Trace reacts like burning his hands, this can’t happen, ever.

Surprise, it can happen! Even though it’s mostly with FaceTime they start something.
Trace can be the Daddy Cooper needed so desperately.

It’s more than physical, the emotional part was just as wonderful.
Trace is just what Cooper needs to grow.
Their encounters are hot, dynamic loving, and caring.
The issues they have to face are manageable.
Overall a wonderful sweet loving, sexy Daddy boy narrative.
Awesomely entertaining, a great way of writing.

The first work by this author I've read and it turned out to be pretty good.

The first half, I would give 3 stars to, though, and the second half 5 stars to even my rating out to 4 stars.

The first half just...dragged. It was slow for me and I was finding it hard to connect with our main couple, Cooper and Trace. Not only because aside from about 3 encounters in person and one of that including them having sex, the rest of the interactions for the majority of the first half was over a screen and Trace was trying real hard to keep his distance, and I felt that distance.

For me, it was hard to connect with these two when they weren't doing much connecting themselves. Their scenes were okay, and not that they can't have a connection when they aren't in person, but Trace was trying to keep them at a distance, and so that translated, for me, when they talked and such.

So when Cooper, a little before the halfway mark, was thinking that he loved Trace, I was feeling like "huh?" because it'd only been a few weeks, and they've barely gotten to know each other.

Trace was Cooper's father's best friend over 10 years ago, but Cooper was a kid when Trace and his father had a falling out, so these two knew each other before meeting again when Cooper is an adult, but that's just it, he was a kid. So now these two are meeting with Cooper as an adult and after 10 years of not seeing each other. So they don't really know each other, and by the halfway mark it still didn't feel like they knew a lot about each other.

I was struggling to feel the connection that the book was already at - that they already be in love with each other - and the first half wasn't terribly exciting.

But then somewhere around the 50 percent mark, when these two started to see each other in person and really started to get to know each other, it really picked up for me and I became invested.

I cared more about these two together, I liked them together, and I was thoroughly enjoying the second half so much more than the first half.

The daddy kink was fairly mild in this. Other than some spanking as "punishment" and Trace being "in charge" and being called Daddy by Cooper, there wasn't much more to the Daddy kink. Kind of disappointing, but I guess it was kind of a sweeter, more romantic version of the Daddy kink, if that makes sense at all haha. That's the only way I can think to describe it. Trace was more of a caring "Daddy" who wanted to take care of his "brat" and that's what the kink was mainly about for them.

There was a suitable amount of drama when Cooper's father found out about them, but I kind of like that it wasn't full on melodrama. It felt more realistic. Not that Matthew - Cooper's father - couldn't have blown up and all that, but he was also suitably angry about it and not approving. He eventually came around to accept them, grudgingly, which was nice.

Part of me would have love it to be a little melodramatic and ongoing, but if it was a real situation, I would want the outcome to be like it was in this. Not perfect by any means, but not the end of the world either.

So overall, I'd say this was a win for my first reading of this author's work. I will definitely check out the second installment in this series and maybe more, if that one goes well too.

Two thumbs up from me. After a slow start, it really picked up and saved itself for me. Definitely recommend! <3

This was so boring. I skimmed the last bit. The first 300’pages were foreplay and sexting and the last part was just a bore. There was a part where Cooper fell of the ladder even though Trace warned him to get someone to hold the ladder. I was waiting for Cooper to pick himself up and stop being an addict and a rebel but he was boring asf. So frustrating. 😪😪 Snoozefest

As soon as I read the summary of this, I was all in. Dad’s best friend is my fave but when they accidentally meet online/through a hook up app and eventually realize who the other is? Uhhhh so hot.

Cooper is 22, a senior and part of a frat. He isn’t really a typical frat boy though. Sure, he smokes weed and attends parties, but he’s not failing at school on purpose or for lack of motivation. He’s trying but college is hard for him and he doesn’t really even want to be there. He’s going to please his Dad who is the Dean of the college, but they have a pretty strained relationship as it is.

Trace isn’t a current best friend of Cooper’s dad - they had a falling out many years prior. However, they’re kind of reconnecting as friends when Trace comes to the college to do an alumni speech. That’s when Trace gets on the hookup app and invites the person to his B&B room... and he walks in the room to find a naked Cooper. They did a tiny bit of touching each other before Trace realized it was his ex-best friend’s son.. whom he knew when he was just a kid, which just adds that extra bit of forbidden-ness that I LOVE. I have no idea how old Trace is but he’s actually one year older than Cooper’s dad. 🤩

Trace can’t resist Cooper but eventually he gives in. He lives 6 hours away so they have nightly Skype chats and oh man, are they naughty. The virtual chats were sexy as fuck. And when they finally get together in person? Yes yes yes. 🔥

I absolutely loved the connection between Cooper and Trace. It wasn’t a 24/7 Daddy/boy relationship.. maybe I’d consider this Daddy-lite. I loved every time Cooper called Trace “Daddy” and came to him with his issues and Trace was able to help him calm down. He helped him with his school work and just... ugh. I loved everything about their relationship.

Of course there was drama with Cooper’s dad eventually and we have to see them work through it. It wasn’t too bad.

I loved the mention of other characters in this, Benji and Ace from Secret Admirer. This was a sort of spin-off from that series since Cooper’s frat is the same featured in that series, just a few years later it seems.

The next book is going to be about Simon and I just got this idea in my head that he would hook up with Cooper’s dad. 😱 I doubt it’s a thing but how amazing would that be? A GFY plus age gap plus Dean/student plus daddy kink. Omg I’m gonna spontaneously combust just thinking about it, haha.

This author is becoming one of my favorites. I’ve only read a few of their books so far but they’ve all been super enjoyable for me and now I think I need to go pick up the ones I haven’t read yet.

4.5⭐️ for this read and I’m anxiously waiting for the next book!!

I received a copy of this book from the author / Neon Rainbow.

Cute! So, so cute! I relate to Cooper so much, and it's nice to see someone like you get a happy ending. I thought the age gap might make the story feel off, but it doesn't. DJ managed that perfectly well.

Decent plot, but can't make up for poor writing. There is nothing special about these characters and nothing to make them bond emotionally with the reader. Flat personalities are mixed with flat situations. Passing on this author in the future.

Voto 4,5 💗
“Il miglior amico di mio padre” è il primo volume di un’interessante serie di D.J. Jamison intitolata “Thrust into Love” e ambientata nell’università di Hayworth in Kansas.

A history of friendship does not guarantee love.

But a history class can bring back memories of time spent together with you crush as your mind wanders in class. Even if you hate school.

But love can grow where it shouldn't and with someone who you shouldn't. Love is always surprising, but never dull. Especially if you are a perfect match for each other. Your love conquers everything else. But family is still important and need to be considered in decision making.

Love is a big commitment. Bigger than almost anything else in life. But you need to care for your previous commitments and work your way through. The rewards may not be as powerful as love, but they are still very important.

Motivation to complete classes with good grades is essential to success as it carries over to almost everything. Success in love for the long term is difficult as people change with age and experience. But love can keep you together in spite of all the problems in life.

Life. Live. Love. Change just one letter at a time and the whole world changes. Learn to love. Care. Share. Be Aware.

Edited 1/20/22 to add my comments on the audiobook:
Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

I loved this book when I read it and listening to it was a pleasure.

DJ Jamison is one of my favorite authors and Nick J. Russo is one of my favorite audiobook performers; I was so excited when I found out that Nick would be doing the audio for this book. He did a great job and when I listened to this, I got even more emotional than I did when I read it.

Below is my original review:
Wow, daddy books are growing on me.

Daddy/boy books will probably never become my favorite in the MM genre but several of my favorite authors are writing them so I’m going to read them. Having said all of that, I think this is one of the best books I’ve read by DJ Jamison. The writing was smooth and tight with nothing that muddied up the story. I did a beta read of this book and other than a few typos, I didn’t find anything to criticize. That’s unusual for a beta read.

Cooper is a 5th year senior in college where his father is the Dean. He never wanted to go to college but he also didn’t want to disappoint his father so he kept on struggling to get through. His father has been estranged from his best friend, Trace, for several years. Now Trace has been invited to speak at the college where Cooper’s father is Dean.

Trace comes into town the night before and decides he wants to hookup. He is shocked when Cooper shows up as the hookup he booked using the Thrust app.

What starts off as a one-off hookup soon turns into something much more. Trace hates keeping this from his best friend, Cooper’s father, Matthew, but he and Cooper are both afraid of what will happen when Matthew finds out.

My emotions were all over the place with this story. I laughed and I shed a few tears which means I really loved it.

A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

I received an ARC of Swiped by My Dad’s Best Friend by DJ Jamison from Gay Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fun, quick read about a college student, Cooper, who hooks up with his dad’s (estranged) friend, Trace, from an app for a one night stand that becomes more. They quickly fall into a Daddy-Boy relationship and I didn’t read the blurb so I was surprised by that turn, even though it was obvious. But it was good. I enjoyed seeing Cooper figure his shit out for his future and Trace was supportive. It was pretty steamy.

I give this one 3.5 stars because I liked it a lot, but didn’t love it and that’s more because the Daddy kink isn’t my favorite trope. I requested the book without reading the blurb because I love the author. As always, the writing is enjoyable and the characters are great. If Daddy kink is your thing, this should be on your TBR.

DNF at 70%. I don't mind daddy kink but this was weirding me out with the whole "my boy" thing. Also wasn't able to connect with either of the main characters or believe in their connection. Heard a lot of good things about the rest of this series though, so might continue with the other books.

I skipped this book when I read all the others because daddy kink is not my jam, even if I appreciated Cooper very much in the second story.

Then I had the opportunity to read it and I have to say, I love how the author described the dynamic between the two men: Cooper is lost and apathetic, he doesn't like his classes and he doesn't know what he wants to do in his life either. Trace has always been reliable and a hard worker and now he finds himself a bit lost too because his landscape business is not doing very well.

Trace and Cooper have a past: Trace is Cooper's dad's former friend. He and Matthew had an argument over Cooper's mum (who was interested in Trace, but he didn't reciprocated) and lost contact for years. Then Matthew, wanting to reconnect with his friend, invites Trace to a conference at the college. The night before the conference, Trace swipes Cooper on Thrust app and when they meet to hookup and recognise each other, they're very much shocked.
But while Trace immediately distances himself, Cooper is more shameless and he doesn't hide his attraction for the older man.

All Trace's concerns about his attraction to Cooper are well written: their age difference, him living far away, his intention to reconnect with Matthew, these are all obstacles to an hypothetical relationship with Cooper, but eventually he gives in because what they feel for each other is too strong to be ignored.

What prevented me from giving a higher rate:
the Daddy/Boy dynamic could have easily be skipped: Trace is more dominant and wants to take care of his man, Cooper has a bratty attitude and he needs a guidance. All of this his could have been part of a older/younger relationship, the daddy kink was unnecessary.

The situation with Cooper's mom had a huge impact on Cooper's personal growth and at the end it was just dismissed with a phone call. Moreover, Cooper having to give his mother a chance because his father was giving Trace one didn't sit right.

Anyway, this story was overall nice and it surely made me understand the connection between the frat guys, especially Simon, better.

I received an ARC of this book from Neon Rainbow and this is my honest review.

Daddy/boy trope is my favorite...whether they are a pup, a little or just a Daddy and his boy, I love all of it.

This book hit all the marks for me for what I want in a Daddy/boy dynamic that isn't directly related to kink.

What I loved about the book:

1. Both characters were flushed out. By the end, I felt like I really new Cooper and Trace. My only complaint is that I would have loved more of Trace's backstory. However, missing that, the character development was on point for me.

2. Chemistry. Sometimes I read books that lack chemistry between the MCs and it's irksome. I loved the chemistry between the two and enjoyed their intimate scenes together.

3. Trace's guidance-A lot of Daddy books are heavy on the s*x and low on the actual relationship between a Daddy and his boy. For me, the Daddy's actions outside of intimacy are just as important. I love that Trace is a sounding board for Cooper. He guides without taking over and stands up for him when Matthew degrades Cooper. He supports Cooper and gives Cooper the safety net to blossom into his own person...not the one he thinks he needs to be.

What I didn't love about the story.
My only complaint is that I wish the epilogue shared a look at their relationship several years from the end of the book.

This may follow a pattern of Daddy/boy books, but this one does it well where others mostly fall flat.

SWIPED BY MY DAD'S BEST FRIEND
DJ Jamison
I have to be honest: I found this book a bit of a drag, and I really struggled to get through it. I thought the plot, though a good one, was just too slow moving, and, to me, this book simply didn't have that delightful "DJ Jamison" feel to it.
I know each book/trope is entitled to be different, but compared to "Secret Admirer", this book simply could not hold my attention.
Although DJ is certainly one of my go-to authors, I guess this one was not for me.

That being said, however, I will add, that the book is very well written, the characterization good, the plot, solid.
I loved that all the issues the mcs encountered were beautifully wrapped up in the end.
So, please don't be discouraged by my somewhat negative account.
Those readers that enjoy stories with a massive age gap, a touch of bondage and a good dose of spanking, and angsty family conflict, will most likely love this.
The dialogue is lively and realistic, and the intimate scenes are tastefully executed.
Heat level about 4 🔥
Standalone
Dual pov clearly defined.
I read a complementary copy of this book which I received via Neon Rainbow arcs, and this review is entirely voluntary.
