The seven devils

Rate this book
"I would slit your throat before you got past Avada, Riddle."
In 1926, Grindelwald is captured for the first time by Newt Scamander, making his followers go into hiding. The Petrov family, an ancient pure-blood eastern European family, is forced to flee to Romania while chased by the Ministry of Magic. While waiting for Grindlewald's return, the family has their first daughter, Varya Petrov. Soon after, her parents are killed by Grindleward's enemies. After attending Scholomance, a small magic school hidden in the depths of Transylvania's forests, for four years, she is called to Hogwarts. Dumbledore has a mission that only she will be capable to do: to stop Tom Riddle from succumbing to his darkest desire. Varya only has one wish: to redeem her parents' mistakes and find her place in the wizarding world. She will do anything to achieve it, even if it means changing the devil's fate.

How do I even begin to explain the Seven Devils...?

- "The seven Devils is flawless."

-"She has amazing descriptions and chemistry."

-"I heard that Tom's hair is insured for 1,000 Galleons."

-"I heard she has a lot of readers... even on Mars...!"

-"Her favourite movie is [The orgins of Tom Raidden]."

-"One time she met JK.Rowling on the plane." "And she told her that copyrights will go to her."

-"One time, she made me cry so hard I could barely breathe...

...it was awesome!"

Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves!

You are about to witness the best Tom Riddle fiction in the HP fandom.

THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!

As many readers suggested, we are fortunate to have such opportunity to read such detailed work on a free platform.

Time for some facts about TSD

+ Characterisation

It is realistic. Apart from being evil in a magical setting, the characters portray the true feelings of angsty teenage life.
For all these years, I wondered how an orphan teenager like Tom Riddle made a cult inside Hogwarts. The author has created a powerful backstory on Riddle and how he gathered his followers. The most important thing is that they have unique characteristics. Rather than making them mere followers or a collective personality author had done a tremendous job on each of their profile.
Did I tell you how much I love the Knight of Walpurgis!?
They are incredibly (Fine I admit I love Rosier more)

+ Girl power

All hail queen Varya Petrov. She is a total badass. Her interactions with Tom Riddle are literally on fire.

+ Enemies to lovers but make it slow burn

Perhaps, it was that their souls had both been made from the same nebula, and galactic dust had settled in their existence and connected them across the universe and life itself, almost as if they were stars that orbited around each other only— the senseless pull of a connection like theirs.

Yeah. You get the idea. Tom and Varya are going to shatter your heart! 😭❤️

By far the most beautiful book I have ever read. I cannot even put into words how beautiful and how beautifully written this book was. The hundreds of metaphors throughout the book absolutely took my breath away because of how accurately they described Varya and Tom and everyone else in this amazing fan fiction.

I am not going to lie when I say that no book has ever made me cry more than this one and the sequel to this 1. Both of these books are absolutely breathtaking and I give my compliments to the author of these books because they are amazing.

I got muted by the author on Wattpad for a reason that I don't know but I'm going to ignore that because of the beautiful writing in this book.

If you love Tom riddle or you simply want to read a heartbreaking and thrilling story that keeps you on your toes and never lets you breathe, I highly recommend this because I will never physically, mentally, or emotionally be able to get over this duology.

*Inhales* I can do this without screaming.

— first of all, to say I loved this book is an understatement; I absolutely adored it. it's the perfect combination of dark romanticism and twisted fairytales. the writing is outstanding, every description is even more beautiful than the last, and don't get me started on the gorgeous analogies— the author is truly gifted.

— Secondly, the characters are absolutely amazing. I would sell my soul, if I had one, for Renold Rossier and Varya Petrov. the dynamic between the characters is so realistic and complex that it really twists your heart and leaves it severely bruised in the best way possible.

— third of all, THE USE OF SLAVIC MYTHOLOGY MADE ME GO FERAL, it's perfect.

basically: this entire book is a work of art and I will burn the head at the stake of anyone who dares to speak ill of this book. All I have to say at last is razor winged butterflies will be all I look for until the day I shall perish.

30% of this book could have been deleted and it still would have been the same story. Also Tom riddle is a little b*tch. Still a good book tho.

Let’s get the things I didn’t enjoy about this book out of the way first. The author had many meaningless paragraphs which could have been condensed and There were many unnecessary words that could have been simplified. Many people in the comments praised the author for their use of complicated words and lengthy paragraphs but personally I found that those parts made the book less enjoyable. I got irritated reading the long paragraphs because it felt like walking through grass and then suddenly stepping into thick mud and trudging through it. I did not enjoy just having the characters backstory handed to you such as toms and (sort of) varyas. I preferred discovering other characters stories as the book unfolded which made me appreciate and understand the knights more so than varya and Tom because it felt like their characters were actually going somewhere. With varya and Tom I feel like their dynamic was kind of expected ya know brooding mysterious boy and girl with fiery personality meant to save him. Of course they’re gonna hate each other and then eventually fall for each other because what else would they do? Honestly I wanted varya to just get the job done already and 🔪 that little sh*t because he royally pisses me off; how anyone could ever love someone with a character like that baffles me to no end.

Now for the things I love about the book. I like how descriptive the author was with setting. (this might sound contradictory to my “meaningless paragraphs rant but those were just of bunch of needless metaphors and similes about toms eyes and how much she loved him it was unecesssary) the authors use of description really helped me visualize the setting in this book and helped set the mood of each chapter and it made the book very enjoyable. I loved Ella from the start and I now love rosier even more. I wish Ella ivy and varya had a closer relationship throughout the book bc like girl power or something ig. I just feel like each of the girls deserved to have a fun time with their roommates while at hogwarts and shouldn’t have been worrying about the things they were but I do understand why they weren’t very close. I also like the description of varyas obscurous but I wish that she would have also injured Tom in that last encounter like she did everyone else because he deserved it. If you haven’t caught on yet I hate Tom so much so that I am debating reading the second book because I honestly just cannot stand him that much that I would like to avoid reading about his godawful character for a hot second. He is written too well and that is why I hate him so much. Many people sugar coat the fact that he’s insane to make him more likeable but this does not and I appreciate it. I feel like it’s a more realistic backstory for Voldemort.

Anyways that was my rant about this book its currently 12:34 AM and I start school in a day and instead resting I’m doing this. Also varya annoys me and I don’t feel like elaborating on that rn lol.

This book made me go into a three-week mental spiral because of how amazing it is. I was sitting on my bathroom floor, crying and shaking so hard that I vomited after reading the letter chapter. The author's talent is equivalent to that of Shakespeare's. Beautiful story, characters, and imagery.

A masterpiece.

I poured all my hatred on the characters belonging to the story but they captivated me until the end.
The literal definition of love-hate and a bit of girlboss behavior.

4,5*

It was a great read. The writing was beautiful, really made the story and worldbuilding immersive. The psychological aspect with the characters really hooked me from the start. The book gets really good in the second half.

Although, the descriptions dragged on sometimes a bit too long, and were sometimes repetitive. The ending was so damn long. And I felt some things did not make sense, like Varya horcrux.

Overall a great read, I will definitely reread and recommend it!

Tom Riddle is the definition of a sociopath yet still has a (particularly small) space in his heart for Varya. I LOVED their dynamic and especially that they are both such complex characters. The writing was phenomenal and the way everything was so well connected and underlined with various metaphors…just wow.
Minus point: it was kind of hard to get into the story cause I couldn’t figure out where it was going to while reading the first half of this book

This is officially my fist Tom Riddle fanfic, and I adored it. The writing is stunningly beautiful. All of the characters felt realistic; they had many flaws and were definitely imperfect, but they were likable nonetheless. The relationship between Varya and Tom felt so organic. I feel that in many Tom fics, they portray him as being loving and caring towards the MC after a few chapters and professing his love after a few chapters more; even though that would never happen and the very notion of it is painfully OOF. This realistically depicts how a relationship between Tom and another really would have gone, and the unhealthy nature of it is completely justified given his sociopathic tendencies.

DNF, borderline written in riddles. I don’t understand the hype, I REALLY tried to bear with it due to the rep but it was overly descriptive and wordy without actually knowing what was happening?! The story just jumped around, nothing was memorable and it all blurred together. It felt like it was trying to rush into being ‘deep’ without any development actually happening, or more so that it was happening outside of the pages so you were in the dark/had half the story. I was so excited going into this as well.. feel like the framework was there but reading it felt like doing homework. Coming off the back of hierarchy of need, it just didn’t come close with engagement.. I felt nothing

I'll give it a rating of 5, as it's really good for fan fiction. But I can't call it really good, because there are several significant flaws that leave a bad aftertaste:

1 Mary Sue characters. Well, just classic - very strong, very smart, very handsome. And if in such a Tom can still be believed, in the presence of an incredibly powerful witch from an ancient family with an incredible mind - no. The whole plot is essentially built on the awesomeness of the second character, and the others are scenery for him.
2 There is no confirmation of the characters' incredible intelligence. The main character doesn't have a single plot twist that shows her genius. Only descriptions and praise from other characters about her intelligence. No really interesting and outstanding solutions, assumptions, etc. she puts forward. An ordinary girl by deeds, but completely unbelievable by description and by what Tom thinks of her. And it's all just in the descriptions. And we have to believe it.
3 Tom isn't bad, but again, his psychopathy and incredible intelligence don't fit in any way with many of his irrational actions. I just don't believe it.
4 Despite the author's beautiful writing style, the descriptions are tiring - the same thing sometimes in the same words. Many times it is said how incredibly beautiful Tom, how incredibly smart Varya and how incredibly evil they are.
5 A dragged-out ending and basically a drag on the text with descriptions.
6 Logical lapses in the plot. For example, about Varya's power, etc., about her ability to control her, death. Not fully properly explained and justified.
7 Ending. I have very big questions about Tom's cowardice and his fear of admitting his feelings. First, questions to the fact that he has them at all, and second, while he has them, these mental tossings of his 15 chapters truly look tiresome. It would have been much more beautiful for him to be honest at least at the end, but to remain true to his ways. As it is, it looks like a failed puberty.

On the plus side:
1 There's no quick and dumb relationship development, Tom stays partly true to himself, though the rationale for their relationship isn't believable either. There is nothing that would make such a Tom by description fall in love with Varya: there is nothing in her actions that can really be called the most brilliant and powerful, one is only invited to believe the author. But nevertheless, I'm glad that Tom didn't turn into a total sniveling snot until the very end.
2 There are interesting plot twists, I was especially moved about the Death Eaters.
3 Despite the Mary Sue of almost all the characters, the characters still try not to be so flat, there is some liveliness in them, although they remain essentially only scenery.
4 The development of the relationships is still exciting, you want to know how it all ends.

All in all, I would have given it a 3 if I were judging it as a work, but for a fanfic it's a 5.

This fanfiction had solidified my opinion that there needs to be MORE Tom Riddle era fanfics out there of this calibre.

There was a lot to love in this fic, it was unique with the characterisation of the first death eaters and Tom's story at Hogwarts, and I really believe this is the 'All the Young Dudes' of Tom Riddle era fics, the one which people will reference for characterisations of Abraxas Malfoy, Avery, and the rest.

Things I loved:

- TOM. I loved how intense he was, I loved that he was hard to love, he felt realistic and he felt real.

- The seven devils - I loved how unique his gang of friends were, I loved Avery the most, and how individual they all were.

- The plot - I can't wait to read the sequel, I truly love the story and it's so clever. It feels intense, page turning and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Things I didn't love as much:

- The writing. It felt very awkward sometimes, I'm not sure if it was translated or if english wasn't the author's first language, but a lot of the time it didn't flow well or make sense. There was a lot of repeating information and the writing was 'wattpaddy' at times, with continuous references to 'her blue orbs looked at him'.

- Telling instead of showing - I think the author held out hand through some of the fic too much, with telling us how the characters felt instead of showing, it felt like it was being dumbed down for teens instead of a proper book.

- The main character - I have a love/hate relationship with her. I loved the way she was described to be dark, I liked that she had flaws, I liked that she was selfish. I didn't love that sometimes her actions didn't make sense with what we know about her, she didn't seem very perceptive, and I feel like sometimes she suddenly had a great relationship with one of the other characters without us having seen it happen.

Overall, I think the things I didn't like as much could have easily been fixed with an editor, but with this being a self published fan fiction, it is really great.
